      "body": "![Imgur](https://i.imgur.com/VRtIE6g.jpg)\n**Introduction**\nIf you read CNBC's website these days, you will notice that there are articles saying that the market has been pummeled and is now ready to go up and there are others that say it is just the start of a longer term downtrend.  Who is right?  \n\nWell, there is no way to know that for sure, and we have a president in the USA who has shown no aversion to moving a market with a single tweet.  Expect the unexpected.\n\nHowever, when looking at the stock market these days, many of us (including myself) are trying to figure out the best gamble to take in the market - and it is very much a gamble.  Anyone who says its not a gamble is lying to you.\n\nMy belief (and its not financial or expert advice) is that there is more pain to come in the stock market.  I may be very wrong, but I have reduced my own equity holdings significantly over time because there are certain things that really scare me about this market.  Here are the things that scare me:\n\n**1.ETF Zombie Money Worries**\nThere are nearly $5 Trillion dollars invested by Joe Public in global ETF's (exchange traded funds).  I call that \"zombie money\" because it is money that just follows ahead in a large herd without independent thought.  \n\nWhat is really troubling to think about is what happens if/when good chunks of the zombie money become scared and doubts the logic/path of continuing to blindly be part of the travelling herd.  If that happens and you start to see a significant unwinding, you may have +/- 2 trillion dollars exiting the markets (that means less money bidding for your shares, so it should mean lower share prices).\n\nThe thing about the average Joe Public investor is that they really have no idea what they are doing - they have just been watching gains for years and feeling good about the idea of investing.  That can still be great for markets when they put their money in and just blindly leave it there because a rising tide lifts all ships - but the thing about Joe Public is that when fear hits it's uninformed fear, blind fear, and that is the worst kind of fear.  Having no idea what is going to happen next and worrying that the \"market may go to zero\" (which is something that I actually heard many times during the 2008 crash) is a toxic fear that triggers a flight response.\n\nFor those who are crypto-currency investors as well (like myself), these ETF zombies are essentially Hodlers.  We saw what happened when a market downturn hit and the response of the Joe Public investors to that.\n\nThe worrying thing is that we are not talking about a small amount of money $5 trillion dollars is a monstrous amount of money.  Any significant unwinding of that amount would have a very significant effect on share valuations.\n\nThose investors are about to receive year end statements that show very real declines, but, more worrying, they are about to see that this December was the worst since the depression era.  I do not believe that investors will, en masse, have the fortitude to sit calmly through that.  People will exit the market and when that happens contagion can take hold.  \n\nYou have already seen signs of the fear - whenever the market has been moving up early in the day lately, you have generally seen the gains erased (with Wednesdays 1,000 point gain being the notable exception).  That is profit taking or money searching for a market exit I believe.  \n\nIn the face of what appears to be a slowing growth and profit forecasts, a withdrawal of government support for the markets (quantitative tightening) and looming trade and political issues, I have a very low exposure to to stock market right now.  I may not be right about the outcome (because its impossible to guarantee that), but I think that I am right about the risk.",

This article seeks to examine the Tezos to Coinbase Rumors in greater detail\n\n*Recent Coinbase Rumor Coins*\nOver the past number of months we have seen the ongoing rumors about 0x (ZRX) being added to Coinbase and the positive price action that was associated with it.  There have been hints of inclusion and rumors for many months.  ZRX has now been added to Coinbase.\n\nAfter the ZRX rumors began, new rumors then centered on Basic Attention Token (BAT) being added.  BAT has, of late, been following an upwards price trajectory as well.  That upwards price trajectory appears to be (largely) correlated with the rumors of it being added to Coinbase.  Those flames of those rumors were probably fanned by the ZRX addition, since it does show that Coinbase is following through on adding new coins.\n\nWhat is clear is that even the rumor of a Coinbase addition has been enough to trigger bull runs in coins in both ZRX, BAT and other coins.\n\n*Is Tezos Next?*\nCoinbase has made it clear that it plans to considerably increase the number of tokens available.  In offering some hints about coins that it views as potentially suitable and worthy of investigation, Coinbase earlier released a list of coins that it was considering adding first to its Coinbase Custody service.  That list was released on August 3, 2018 and can be found here: https://blog.coinbase.com/coinbase-custody-is-exploring-a-range-of-new-assets-e700496844be  \n\nCoinbase's list above notably includes Tezos, a coin that the Winklevoss brothers (owners of the Gemini exchange) have also added to their investments in July 2018: https://icorating.com/news/2018-7-winklevoss-twins-quietly-add-tezos-to-portfolio/     and that Kraken and Bitfinex very recently added to their exchanges as well.\n\nThere have been rumors about Tezos being added to Coinbase since the ICO, including references to the fact that Olaf Carlson-Wee (who is famously known as the first Coinbase employee) and his investment fund were heavily involved in Tezos, as they also are in ZRX.  Many people on Twitter voiced concerns that Olaf and his connections to ZRX unfairly helped it to get on Coinbase before other coins.  Olaf is now sitting on the board of directors of the Tezos foundation.\n\nThe tweet itself from Coinbase's CEO was as follows:\n*\"Sugar free drinks and snacks have grown in popularity (and everyone is doing keto/low carb). A safe sugar substitute that you could *bake* into cookies, pies, cake, chocolate etc would find a huge market. Something \"heat stable\" like this\".*\n\nThe reason that this sparked the rumors is because Tezos' ecosystem is based on proof of stake that relies on \"baking\".  A recent medium post explained as follows:\n*“Baking is what Tezos refers to as the action of signing and publishing a new block in the chain. Bakers need at least 10,000 XTZ (~ $22,000) to qualify as a delegate, and having additional delegated stake increases their chances of being selected as a Baker or Endorser.”*\n\nThe tweet used stars on either side of the word \"baking\", which appears to have been done to cleverly emphasize the word.  It is unclear why this would have been done if it was not a teasing reference.  The syntax of the subject matter certainly did not call for that.\n\nThe tweet from Coinbase's CEO is admittedly somewhat vague (perhaps intentionally), but it could be a teasing reference and, notably, the CEO has not come out and denied the interpretation, despite BitcoinexchangeGuide's article being published.  If there was nothing to it, one might expect the CEO to immediately quash the interpretation - there is an old saying that sometimes the sound of silence can be deafening.\n\nOne of the challenges that many noted about Tezos in the past were the difficulties that the project went through with its former board of directors.  There was a significant lack of clarity about whether the funds raised in the ICO had disappeared or been stolen.  The Tezos foundation put that issue to rest when it hired a Top 4 Accounting Firm (Price Waterhouse Coopers) to act as its auditor and announced that it had $500,000,000 plus its allocation of XTZ tokens, making it one of the most well funded blockchain projects in the space - https://tezos.foundation/news/funds-and-asset-management-update    Notably, if you subtract the $500,000,000 in cash plus its allocation of XTZ, Tezos' remaining market cap attributable to the actual chain is tiny.\n\nTezos has been putting that to work, with considerable numbers of grants and projects building on top of it.\n\nWhat may well be attractive to Coinbase is the ability to draw customer's interest into purchasing the token since they can \"Bake\" or delegate to other bakers and earn rewards simply by holding the Tezos tokens.  That ability to earn tokens just by holding tokens and clicking a button may well be more attractive to Coinbase's less Tech based customers, than proof of work coins are.\n\nWhile the Coinbase CEO's tweet was vague, there are reasons to believe that it was a reference to Tezos, and in the face of the other factors that point to an eventual Coinbase listing, perhaps a Tezos listing is more imminent than some had expected.",

Below are the comments that I submitted to them:\n\n-----\n\n\"Thank you for offering the opportunity to comment freely on the Bitcoin ETF application.  \n\nMany have already spoken on the technical and trading issues involved.  I wish to offer my comments on the underlying philosophy of the asset and it's developing ability to promote freedom in the modern world and to allow those in the world who are being persecuted to freely transfer their capital to places where they are not being persecuted.\n\nCrypto-currency is nothing more than a value marker (a credit on a ledger that denotes entitlement) that a community has agreed to accept in exchange for value.  It's not unlike a paper currency issued by‎ a central government or even a Starbucks gift card. It signifies that the holder has an entitlement to value in the community that has agreed to accept it.\n \nIt provides ease of use features in how fast, how far and how cheap it can be transmitted and stored and the fact that you don't require an intermediary to store or transmit it (although many larger and inexperienced users may choose to employ one). It also guards against double-spending and other payment issues and fractional reserve issues that have posed very real risks to all of us and western economies.\n\nBitcoin's Ledger itself is entirely public and traceable and therefore is a poor alternative to using cash for those who wish to hide their transactions.\n \nPhilosophically, it guards against abuse/manipulation by central issuers (think venezuelas government)‎that can rework the ledger and the value that attaches to the value marker at will and without transparency. It also guards against forfeiture by unscrupulous governments (think brazil's seizure of funds from accounts that had more than $50k, the nazi's seizure of wealth from their victims, the Chinese governments attempts to stop their citizens from taking their wealth outside of the country).\n \nCrypto-currency removes the maintenance of the community's value ledger from central authority and places it in the hands of the people that can have confidence in its certainty, immutability and transparency. It is very much about freedom and should benefit countries like the US where people live free.  It will permit freer flow of capital for individuals and we know that individuals typically flow their capital to places where they enjoy freedom and capital security.\n\nBitcoin is very much about individual freedom and property rights and, outside of western democracies, that is something that is in short supply in much of our world.  We already see individuals in Venezuela and other countries suffering with corrupt governments increasingly turning to crypto to try to protect their property rights and to try to escape it.\n\nBitcoin will, in my respectful opinion, never replace government issued currency, but it has begun to open an international bridge between countries and currencies to allow people to protect their property rights and to move their money within an international community of those who have agreed to accept the bitcoin value marker.\n\nBitcoin is nothing more than the development of a new asset class, but it is an asset that offers the hope of freer property rights and individual liberty to those in the world who are suffering and oppressed.  Bitcoin is as American as Apple Pie.\n\nAll of which is respectfully submitted,\n\nLuke C.\"",
