      "body": "My son just turned 12 years old. Oh, how time flies. I can remember just yesterday bringing him home from the hospital. Sometimes, I like to sit and remember the past.\n\nTo start, we went to an outdoor play. Since we didn't want to sit on the ground, we bought some chairs. My son wanted to take a lot of toys that filled up two large bags. I was able to convince him to only bring one bag. Guess what? He didn't get to play with any of his toys. He was so engaged with the play. As was I. The play was about going through time and they also showed the changing times through the various seasons. It was rather warm. We planned on attending the day before but it started to storm. My mom and one of my sisters were going to attend but when we rescheduled, they couldn't make it. It felt so relaxing to just be in the chair and watch an amazing performance. In the end, my son jumped up and started dancing to the music. He truly had a blast.\n\n\n\n![IMG_20220515_135548485.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmWGseUkrhDsHFxwq48rmdCQMUjmoaVf6gJ6P8daPjEroE/IMG_20220515_135548485.jpg)\n\n\nOn his actual birthday, was a school day so I let him play hooky. We went horseback riding. He used to take therapeutic horseback riding lessons. I am hoping to put him back into some lessons later this year or next year. The tour lasted an hour. He was laughing and giggling the entire time. I rode a horse as well. I haven't been on a horse since I was a little girl. I was definitely nervous. I plan on going again in the future. Riding a horse is a nice escape. It brings peace and just enjoying nature is a wonderful experience. It's very ironic because I am not an outdoorsy person. However, when there's an activity that my son wants to do outside, I am more than willing to participate. One of my sisters came over and hung out with us. She also spent the night and we has a little sleepover. My son was beyond happy because he always talk about having a sleepover. We stayed up late, watched tv, and play video games. \n\nI think that my son was able to enjoy his birthday a little bit more this year since the pandemic seems to be getting a little bit better.       "body": "I hope everybody has been doing well. I started this blog four years ago and I allowed life to get in the way. The last few years have been crazy due to the pandemic. I am also currently going through a divorce. My son, who has autism, is still doing remote learning. It all has been a challenge, to say the least, but I am definitely already enjoying this new version of my life. \n\nParenting my son is the most important in my life. Kids need to be raised in a way so that they will be an added bonus to society and not people who will cause chaos and destruction. He is in the sixth grade and has made the honor roll a couple of times. I am truly so proud and amazed at how he is being strong and working hard towards his goals. I conduct a few check-ins so that we can talk about anything his heart desires. Sometimes we are talking about how he doesn't want me and his dad to divorce and other times we are talking about Sonic the Hedgehog or the PBS kids' logo. \n\nThere is never a dull moment in my home and I like it that way. We are a package deal and we also look out for each other. I like it this way.\n\nYou will see more content from me. I am now in a mental space where I have more time. It's very interesting when you let someone go that wasn't good for you, how you have the mental and physical strength to do the things that you always wanted to do. At this point, I have my son 365 nights a year (I hope that his dad can make time for him in the near future), and I still feel as though my time has been added to my day. So, if you don’t know already, potty training can suck the life out of you. It is so time consuming and typically takes a lot of work. Having to go to the bathroom yourself and make sure another person goes is quite a lot of bathroom trips throughout the day. The one thing I can say is consistency is definitely the key. \n\nKids that have autism most likely will need a little more time in this area. It may take them longer if they can even grasp the concept. It was a struggle in my household getting my son potty trained. Oh, the memories and the exhaustion. Remember earlier I said that it takes consistency? Well, I was not consistent at all, so I know that has a lot to do with the struggle. At one point my son would potty when placed on the toilet but then I became so focused on him improving his speech the potty training fell by the way side. I would still take him to the bathroom but not on a regular schedule. Then one day it hit me. Oh, my goodness, my son will be starting kindergarten soon and he has to be potty trained in order to be place in a mainstream classroom. So, I went to work. I created a social story about potty training and used a sticker chart. With a ton of hard work, dedication and just plain old prayer, we got through it. \n\nParents, I know it can be tough to potty train but we all know the sooner the child is trained the better it is for the family. No more paying for those expensive diapers or washing and drying cloth diapers. \n\nJust remember to always keep an extra change of clothing everywhere you go just in case. \n\nSomething potty training can be a breeze but not always. Just stick with it and breathe through.",

When you have a child that has autism, s/he might have skills lacking in this area. My son did. He was not what the professionals called significantly delayed but I still wanted to help him improve his skills. We looked for items that naturally helps in this area. Some items are puzzles, coloring, writing and playing with play dough. There are a ton more items that helps as well. These are all great but, I created a lot of items that catered to skills that I wanted him to develop more in. In this case, I created a lot of lacing cards. Lacing cards are quick and easy to make. This is how I made them.\n* I started off by going online and finding a picture that I liked. My son was into cars, trucks and bears so I picked these pictures.\n\n* I used colored stock paper to print out the outline of the pictures. \n\n* Once the pictures were printed on the paper, I use my small laminating machine to make the lacing cards durable. \n\n* Then I punched holes in the paper and added one string. \n\n* Lastly, I added some tape to the end of the string so that it can weave through the lacing card smoothly. \n\nHe was able to use the string to weave through the various holes.       "body": "I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s day. I sure did. It was very busy. \n\nMy day went like this.\n\nI woke up and had to put the finishing touches on the gifts. I woke my son up and gave him a haircut since it was long overdue. I had to find the perfect outfit for him which consist of a red polo shirt, jeans, white shoes, white suspenders, and a cute little bow tie. He was looking so handsome. We ate breakfast and then I took him to school to pass out all his gifts. Thank goodness my husband does express his love in various ways throughout the year. After we ate breakfast, he took me to buy some clothes as well. Whether you are married, dating or neither of the two, just have a great day and enjoy yourself.\n\nThe school that my son attends, sent a letter home asking the parents to send in supplies to help stock the classroom. Half of the school year has past and the supplies that were given at the very beginning of the year, are almost all used up. I think this is a great idea. There are seventeen children in the classroom and if we all just pitch in a little, the class will have the needed supplies. We decided to give some paper towels, tape, index cards, erasers, pencils etc. We also, decided to get some fruit snacks and heart decorated napkins to go with their cupcakes for their mini celebration. Since it is during the holiday, my son and I decorated the supplies to look more festive. He did those by himself. He wrote his name on them, folded them, used the heart stickers to keep them sealed and he also added the candy to them. He has a wonderful support team and we had to make sure they received something a little bit special during the various holidays. Of course, my son needed some help with these pieces, so it was a team effort. Our arms were so full when walking into the school to pass out everything, but it was worth it. \n\nLet’s all try to remember that kindness is love in action. \n\nP.S. Everything was purchased at the dollar store except the fruit snacks and fruit.
