My thoughts may not always follow a specific course and seem sporadic but are true to my water nature.  I put no limitations on my mind and  let my thoughts flow like the waves.  Buckle up and ride the wave!\n\nMY EXPERIENCE AND EVOLUTION AS A WACOINDAN\n\nAs I set out on the mission of writing an article highlighting my amazing experience as a member of Wacoinda, as opposed to pointing out the contradiction of the parasitic capitalism based culture vulture machine that extracts and exploits communities and culture, I struggled to find my “voice”.  I attempted to approach this article from several strategic angles until I finally let my free flowing abstract Aquarius nature take the lead and guide my proverbial pen in the direction that it should go.  As true with so many things in life, my best writings often come when I think less and feel more.  My years of educational studies (I have a B.A. in Communication Studies with a Public Speaking emphasis), endeavors as a teacher and speaker, and overall life experiences has taught me that though it’s always wise to have a script/outline, the most powerful words are often spontaneous and sincere.\n\nThe year 2017 was a time of transition, personal highlights, and new endeavors in my life. I officially started my journey into the realm of entrepreneurship and went from thinking and talking about investing to actually investing in Bitcoin and several alternative coins. Although I can look back and acknowledge that FOMO led me to jump into the Crypto space lacking any sound investing strategy or science, making the move to make my first ever investment is something that I’ll never regret.  Recognizing that I had a limitation in understanding about Crypto, Blockchain technology, altcoins, and how everything worked together, I joined several Crypto groups on Facebook.   Although I gained some valuable knowledge, trading tips, personal connections, etc. something usually still seemed to be missing. Many of the groups were simply far too advanced for me and seemed to be overly serious and flat out impersonal at times.\n\nIn December 2017 I learned of a humble, knowledgeable, charismatic, and fun loving Brotha named Lamar “Big Marh” Wilson who was not only an investor in the Crypto space but also an innovator on the scene.  The first time that I witnessed him share insight on Cryptocurrency I felt that he was not only knowledgeable but also genuine, patient, and engaging in his approach. Unlike his counterparts, Big Marh was driven by something deeper than a desire to capitalize and exploit the lack of knowledge, access, and resources of the already oppressed and disenfranchised segments of our society. Needless to say, this compelled me to learn more about his mission to eradicate economic oppression and social injustice, tune into his live jump in videos often, and join the Black Coin Group for which he and his powerful purpose partner Lafe Taylor had laid down the foundation.  \n\nUpon learning about the Black Coin Group I was filled with excitement and hopeful that I had finally found a culturally relevant (on purpose) safe space where I could grow and be challenged politically, personally, and purposely. You see, to me it wasn't just about learning about Crypto. It was just as much about having fun, making connections, collaborating, having an open exchange of knowledge and resources.  Finding a group where I don’t have hide or compromise my Garveyite/Black Left Leaning/Afrikan Socialism influenced stances and being able to promote innovation and intervention as a mechanism for advancing the Afrikan diaspora and Hue-Manity at large meant a lot to me. The group’s core tenets of togetherness, love, and collaboration affirmed that I was in the right place, at the right time, for the right reasons. At last, I had found a space to call home.\n\nAs the world evolves so must we.  Through a diplomatic democratic process, the majority of the members of the group decided to keep the core mission and tenets of the group yet modify the group’s original name. The beautiful thing about the process was the fact that not everyone was initially on board with the changing of the name from the Black Coin Group to Wacoinda, I was one of those that wasn't on board for personal and political reasons, yet it wasn't a big enough issue to drive a wedge in the group or cause the group to end due to ideological differences. In fact, I would say that the opposite happened.  In that moment, a new sense of pride, ownership, Umoja, and Kujichagulia flowed through the group and reflected in the attitudes of the newly birthed WACOINDANS! \n\nAs I bring this article to a close, I want to attempt to give my perspective on the age old question of, “What's in a name?”. I’ll put it as simply as I know how…..EVERYTHING.  Our Ancestors knew that the naming of a person or thing was so important that they often delayed naming someone or something immediately. They engaged in a process that would lead to the naming of a returned Ancestors and granted the issue much serious deliberation. There were special sacred ceremonies conducted to affirm a name and the purpose of the person or thing attached to this name. This knowledge and these traditions are embedded in our DNA though the ways of this New World and our new reality has caused us to forget or un-know these traditions. Our collective warrior spirit is still very active and moves us to fight for what's right, strive to be self reliant, self determined and self governing, and to oppose all manners of bondage, exploitation, suppression, and oppression.
