      "title": "Football Stadium Lights, 9/11 and The Catholic Church: A Story about Who, What, When, Where, Why and How",
      "body": "People that know me have seen me crusade for a second investigation into 9/11. I generally come off as arrogant about the issue, as if its my way or the highway. I have done my research. I feel I'm entitled to that bit of ego. But what many of you may not know is where that comes from.\nI do enjoy a good controversy. My favorite movies growing up were always the ones about the little guy, dishing it to Big Brother. Nothing but a simple truth and a great cause that he (or she) stood in solitude, while trying not to get run over by the machine that would bury that truth.\nMovies as old as Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and Scandal Sheet...to more modern ones like Absence of Malice and Erin Brokovich. But the one that really got me. The one that made me say, \"Yeah, I want to do that for a living!\" was Gregory Peck playing an undercover reporter trying to root out anti-semitism in 1940's Connecticut. \"A Gentleman's Agreement\" was a show I didn't even see coming. It hit me square between the eyes and told me a story I didn't even know was important to me. For it was completely unjust! We of course were told about the Anti-Semitism of the Nazis in school and what that led to, but to see it on our soil... Even after the war! Well, this was important work! I wanted to do this work!\nI went to school the following week and told my English teacher (who was also in charge of journalism) I wanted to do my own story for the school paper. She told me I had to be part of the newspaper staff and asked did I even know the first thing about journalism? I didn't but told her I would take care of that before the end of the day. \nThat day for lunch I went to the school counselors office, dropped a metal shop class I had for the second part of the year and added Journalism I.\nI then took a copy of that registry back to my English teacher and let her know I was ready to write that article (as the second semester was only two weeks away). She shook her head and smiled and asked me why it meant so much to me? I answered \"because I just want to make a difference\". \nSee our school had no lights on its football field and I had already stumbled onto the reason why. Long standing football coach Dangerfield had no interest in coaching night games, yet most parents couldn't make it to games that were happening at 4:00, literally right after school ended and an hour before most self-respecting adults would even be off of work, let alone to their kid's game. Surely it would be better for receipts for the school too. They'd sell more tickets with later games, attendance would be higher. More of the student body would be likely to come. . . But I digress.\nYes, putting lights on our football field wasn't a big deal in comparison with these bigger stories I mention above, but I do feel I made a difference. \nThat story ran in the Spring of 1987. By 1990 Brighton High School no longer played football games in the afternoon. They were played under the Friday night lights.\nMaybe it was just time. But I'd like to think, I had at least a small hand in that happening.\nSo... 9/11. I had a larger point to make here and 9/11 wasn't even it. It was a vehicle I was going to use to drive you to my point. Because if 9/11 didn't go down the way the government told us it did, who is going to tell you different? The media? Right. They are as few as a handful of corporate mouthpieces nowadays and those little guys I talked about above, taking on the mammoth machines with their little piece of the truth. Even where good reporters exist, the majority of them have been silenced by the machines they are now slaves to. That is why the \"Fake-News\" media is such an easy argument to level against the Corporate News Network and its ilk. When they have been caught in the past faking stories in front of green screens and coaching bad dramatic performances out of paid actors (\"they took the babies out of the incubators and laid them on the floor...\"), those little guys have had to buck the system and start on the outside and find their audience however they could. Public access television was an early answer to this, later it became the internet reporters and the organizations that grew up around them. \nThese \"conspiracy theorists\" as the mainstream media would tell you have emerged from the shadows to actually gain access to the White House Press Room under the current administration, whether you are talking the Huffington Post and Politico, or World Net Daily and Infowars, the landscape has definitely changed as to where the public might be able to get their news.\nAs someone who went to school to learn his craft, I dismissed these \"clowns\" initially, like most have as political grand-standers. Yellow Journalism dogs with their sensational stories written just to get you to tune in. . . Until I realized at the core of their stories, many of these independents were still getting it done right. The who, what, when, where, why and how were all being addressed and sourced. One only had to follow the article to the sources addressed to find a deeper rabbit hole. . . Oh my God! \nWhen I had the epiphany that this was real journalism and the yellow journalism was the left-right paradigm that they were trying to entrap me into each day, infuriating me with stories about how the dirty Democrats did this, why those scoundrel Republicans did that! Holy shit! And 9 out of 10 people follow this stuff like it even matters?!?!\nThe real news was right under my nose the whole time. \nSo was 9/11 an inside job? You bet your sweet ass it was! And 3,000 of my fellow Americans died that day in a conspiracy that maybe leads back to the Saudis, or the Israelis or even factions within our own government. I don't know the answers. That is why I crusade for a second independent investigation! 3,000 of my deceased countrymen deserve to know the truth of what they died for!\nBut again, I'm not here to get hung up in that argument. Some stories run even deeper. I watched a movie tonight. An amazing movie that again, like Gregory Peck... I didn't see coming. \nWith a clear anti-Christian bias in the media, I have ignored this movie thinking the story behind it (which I ignored as well, when it originally came out) was going to be trumped up bullshit, just to slander the Catholic Church.\nThe movie I speak of is \"Spotlight\" and the scandal I speak of is one that has run so much deeper than 9/11. It doesn't merely go back 10-15 years. It goes back hundreds. \nFor hundreds of years the Catholic Church buried its Priests \"indiscretions\" with child molestation as if it wasn't happening and with the shame of the victim and the victim's family, it was easy enough just to write the priest off as a \"bad apple\" and move him to another parish where the cycle could repeat. \nI didn't want this story to be true, but now that I have seen this movie, it was truly an important piece of work. Not just the movie. But again, the work of these journalists. And if I have a point to leave you with its this: Even as the Boston Globe put its case together against the Goliath sized Catholic Church, it wasn't even their own journalists that made the story happen. It was those \"crazy, one-horse conspiracy theorists\" at the small town papers. It was these town cryers that forced the courts to release sealed documents that finally blew the lid off the case. See this movie. Its awesome. But don't forget, anyone that can come up with a who, what, when, where, why and how, with a source to back them, deserves your attention. It had been out of the water for about 10 to 20 years, all the boards slowly swelled to their original size, inbetween times we had to pump all the water out. I think that is why I was taken along, to be the pumper. But was good fun.",

I've got a luxurious open floor-plan, but no where near as much storage space as other boats in my class, yet... the open salon and galley make up for it as mine feels more like a 45'er.",

While this is not a foreign concept to those in my second (more affluent) group who have probably already owned a home or two.  For those in my first (the ones scraping to get by) group - this may be your first home ownership opportunity and while the costs to entry are probably higher than any lease deposit you’ve ever paid, the community makes it all worthwhile. \n\nThis becomes a criticism of modern culture, where both technology and the rat race keep us divided from interaction with our neighbors. In a marina this is impossible. Whether it be a criticism of the width of the piers or just the number of your neighbors, you have people all around you. Generally great people that are always willing to help you, whether it be to catch a line as you come back from a sail, or even help you install your new AC unit. There is always someone happy to help. Of course, they  may one day ask for their quid pro quo and it would be bad form to say no, so of course, you will help. It's only neighborly.\n\n![1950's.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmQmtiCFkivfNBF67gpF8ZpUP8zeoCeubd5VwQitzc2jPL/1950's.jpg)\n\nMy experience with my neighbors, now in two marinas, is what I think it might be like to go back to 1950's suburban America. This was the  first time people largely moved to suburban property developments and while in the marina you can forget the white picket fences, everyone is more neighborly than they are today otherwise. Granted, none of my neighbors are named Ozzy, or Harriet, or even Beaver, but there is that level of camaraderie. We are all \"in this together\" and its nice to know that your neighbors have your back, even if every dock still has its Eddie Haskell.\n\nSimply walking down the pier to hop in your car, may result in as many as three or four neighbors stopping you to chat. It reminds me of some time in my youth spent in Hawaii. . . It would be rude to at least not stop and return the courtesy. You *make* time to \"talk story\", as the Hawaiians call it. Because nothing is more important than the people that live in your community and you always have time for them. At least, that is how it is in Hawaii. Its like they are more relaxed, often in a vacation mindset... even though their vacation may have become permanent. Given that caveat, OCCASIONALLY, a domestic squabble will break out and everyone will hear it. They say not to say anything in a marina that you don't want everyone to hear - voices carry in a marina: So when a domestic dispute breaks out, don't expect what is said to stay private.\n\nPersonally, it hasn’t happened yet near me. But when arguments like this do happen, they quickly become things of legend and because of this, oft times the people involved in this scuttlebutt, will remove themselves from the marina and find a new place to dock their boat out of embarrassment (or management gets involved due to complaints) and peace and tranquility are restored. \n\nOne other point about peace and tranquility... and I aim this one at apartment living. I'll even use my last experience in an apartment as an example. I had to  pinch myself because of all the space I had - It shouldn't have been this inexpensive! First of all, as I made countless trips up the stairs, no one attempted to offer me a hand even once, while a couple of people seemed to just be loitering to see what I might carry in next. I moved my  hand's position on the box I was carrying to cover up where it says \"Stereo equipment\". I made a mental note, \"locking the door is not optional. . . *Ever*\". \n\nThat evening as I began to unpack,  I could hear the LOUD Hip-hop radiating through the walls, what seems like two or three units down (or is that in the parking lot) - I can't be sure, but its so annoying! \n\n![noisy neighbors.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmZqwBLJtBEvrwaqHHpoyqi2QxXJikbgUMqYuYsEjDsRbk/noisy%20neighbors.jpg)\n\nLater that evening, as I am hanging up some framed posters and pictures, a ruckus breaks out next door. The neighbors are arguing. As I stand back to admire my work, all of the sudden, something hits the wall from the other side with a dull thud and three of my five frames drop from the wall, shattering the glass on two of them.  I now hear crying amongst the shouts and I'm fairly convinced that was my female neighbor just about came through my wall. I worry for her safety as I pick up the phone to call the police, hoping everything is okay next door. As I begin to pick up the broken glass, the ruckus next door continues. \n\nBy this point I am wondering how much of that $2,750.00 in rent and deposit I just paid went to help subsidize my neighbors SECTION 8 housing, because decent hard-working people, just don't act like this!\n\nAfter the police show up and restore order. It is finally quiet, for about an hour. . .  At this point, I've wired up the TV, pulled some ice cream out of the fridge (I've been looking forward to this moment all day). I am just starting to unwind, watching some Silicon Valley, ready for a laugh. . . That's when the Hip-Hop returns, this time from the other end of the apartment, but the 68BPM just doesn't jive well with the storyline and the *BOOM BOOM BOOM* is drowning out the punchlines... Then the make-up sex starts from the neighbors next door and again, frames again start falling from the paper thin walls.\n\n\"Sonofabitch!!!!\" \n\nYou know, those people that didn’t pay anything to move in like you did, so they have no pride in their community - its just a place for them to live (while you spend $1,100 per month to live next door to them). They’re generally loud, uncouth, have no problem throwing the furniture at each other or playing their $10k audio systems (in their $2k cars) at top volume in the parking lot below you, at 11PM on a Sunday night, because they don’t have any concept of time... Or work.\n\nWell, whatever you picture those people looking like, as I told the story, you won’t find it on the  dock. If you do, management will toss them out when they begin to act up. Bottom line its rare, I’m guessing this is due to the fact that everyone owns their own “homes” here, they have more respect than that for their neighbors and for their own property. It might also have to do with the fact that the average boat owner is over 30 years of age, but occasionally a 20-something and his wife will still move aboard and they are respectful and again quiet. Ahhh. So even if you play your Netflix or Spotify at high volume. More than likely, your neighbor will never hear it, as it has to penetrate the 1/2” fiberglass hull of your boat and then at least six feet of water before it gains the attention of a dock-mate. Unless you are a pin-head and play your music excessively loud with your hatches and port lights open, your neighbors will never complain. \n\nIn even the worst case scenario though, IF this ever became a problem. You live on a boat, simply MOVE. Its as easy as giving notice and repositioning to the NEXT marina, or if you like the one you are at, simply finding a new slip. This I suppose finishes off my next couple of points in my top ten list, living on a boat is more peaceful and tranquil and moving is as simple as starting your engine. \n\nAlso with that said, let me don my “Captain Obvious” hat again, if just for a moment to point out, no matter where you live on a boat, its all entirely waterfront property... and you don’t pay a dime extra for it.
