I've been told that western Tantra is considered to be a skewed version of original Indian and Tibetan Tantra. An Indian friend told me that you can not learn proper Tantra without learning Sanskrit. This doesn't mean that we can't borrow certain aspects of its terminology though. Main and most important aspect of Indian Tantra is kundalini -body energy, associated with Shiakti. Full blown kundalini awakening is a life changing experience. It happened to me over three years ago and it totally transformed my personality. Do you have a personal experience yourself? Ps. I am planning to rewrite some of my old blogs about Tantra and repost them on steemit at some point.

There were about 5 yoga studios within 10 minutes walk from my home. Over 10 massage places! A shop with crystals and anything a New Age girl can dream of. On top of that, I was surrounded by people who shared my beliefs and attitude towards life.When I moved back to Poland I realized I took it all for granted. Western world makes it a bit more challenging to keep up your spiritual practices – but it’s not impossible :)So how can a modern woman stay spiritual? What are some of the practices that you can do?Over the last year I discovered that these 9 ways allow me to feel good and always connected to my psychic abilities, The Creator, feel more gratitude and simply feel happy about life.</p> <h3>1. Declutter</h3> <p>Nothing works better at moving stuck energy than to clearing out your space.<br> Go through your shelves and closet and see what you can let go. Some old clothes you haven’t worn in over 2 years? Or this gift from your mother-in-law that you only keep because of her? Old books? It’s time! Pack it up and pass it to those who might benefit from it more than you (check out <a href="http://bravebelle.com/9-things-i-threw-out-to-welcome-more-abundance-love-and-happiness/">my other article</a> of what to throw out for more fresh energy)</p> <h3>2. Use crystals to energize your water with love</h3> <p>It is said that water has memory. What it means is that water easily takes on the energy of the environment. If you energize it with hatred or anger – you will be literally drinking energy of these emotions.<br> This is why blessing your water is such a beautiful practice. But I always had a&nbsp;problem with it… First of all – I never remember to do it. And secondly – apart from me, here in Poland,&nbsp;rarely anyone&nbsp;agrees it’s a beautiful practice (they think it’s plainly crazy! haha)<br> So instead, I keep a rose quartz crystal in my water jar. I first do a little meditation to cleanse its energy and fill it with unconditional love. Occasionally I repeat this process. Crystals should get cleared about once in a month.</p> <h3>3. Burn incense to clear negative energy in your house</h3> <p>There are many ways you can clear energy.According to Feng Shui you can use bells and clapping to clear your house. But if your family or housemates are not into energy work, this might be a bit challenging to do. So the easier option would be to burn some white sage (you can buy dry sage for smudging) or palo santo (it’s a wood originally from Latin America, so might be a bit harder to get). Both have a distinct smell, so when not used to, your housemate might find it rather uncomfortable.And this is why I recommend incense. These also have clearing properties but are much more popular. People are familiar with them, they are ok with their smell and they don’t immediately link them to some “weird” energy clearing ritual :)</p> <h3>4. Add salt to your bath</h3> <p>Salt is famous for its energy clearing properties. There are many ways you can use it. You can sprinkle some around your house. You can put little containers with salt in the corners of each room. Or you can use them in your home spa – and this is my favorite way to take advantage of the cleansing properties of salt!About once a week I take a long hot bath with salt. It’s perfect for clearing your aura and energizing you.</p> <h3>5. Home made&nbsp;body scrub with salt</h3> <p>Another way to get all the benefits of salt is to add it to your DIY beauty products. I mix salt with oil of olive and use it as body scrub.</p> <h3>6. Get 30 min only for yourself in the morning</h3> <p>Before everybody else wakes up, and before all the to-do tasks start taking your time, dedicate just 30 minutes to yourself. It is a perfect time to meditate, journal and do energy practices.Once the day starts it is much more difficult to find the time for yourself. By the time the evening comes, you are usually too tired. On top of that, right after you wake up, you are naturally in a deeper state of mind (<em>alpha</em>) which makes it easier for you to meditate or do any other rituals that require you to connect to your psychic abilities, Third Eye or intuition.This way you can also make sure that nobody will interrupt you.</p> <h3>7. Connect with like-minded&nbsp;people</h3> <p>There is one important truth to keep in mind – anything that you have experienced, no matter how amazing it’s been for you, is yours and should not be imposed on anyone. So even though you know exactly why your loved ones are experiences these difficulties, or why they suffer or experience physical traumas – don’t offer your opinion unless you’re asked.I know how much you’re tempted to do it. After all, when you find the key to feeling better you want to share it with the ones you love. You want to share with them what you just read about energy work, or which crystal is the best to keep in bedroom for a good night of sleep… But, if they are not interested, you will only push them away.Instead, find people who do share your interests. It is important to discuss with others your views and learn from each other. By all means, do talk about your practices, do offer your advice – just do it wit the right people, who want it and who share these interests with you. And these does not have to be your closest friends or family.Go on Facebook and search for groups, especially the ones in your city. Join&nbsp;yoga&nbsp;classes. See if there are any workshops where you work. Or even join international festivals for people like you and me. It will give you the much needed contact and will not jeaopardize your relationships.</p> <h3>8. Schedule breaks for breathing</h3> <p>Sounds silly – but trust me, no other practice beats deep breathing. The problem is that most of us breathe in a very shallow and fast way, which puts our body in a constant state of stress!The solution is super easy. Every 2 hours or so, schedule a 5 min break. Go to the bathroom (or anywhere when you can be alone and relax). Close your eyes and inhale deeply into you belly expanding your chest. And then slowly exhale. There were about 5 yoga studios within 10 minutes walk from my home. Over 10 massage places! A shop with crystals and anything a New Age girl can dream of. On top of that, I was surrounded by people who shared my beliefs and attitude towards life.When I moved back to Poland I realized I took it all for granted. Western world makes it a bit more challenging to keep up your spiritual practices – but it’s not impossible :)So how can a modern woman stay spiritual? What are some of the practices that you can do?Over the last year I discovered that these 9 ways allow me to feel good and always connected to my psychic abilities, The Creator, feel more gratitude and simply feel happy about life.</p>\n<h3>1. Declutter</h3>\n<p>Nothing works better at moving stuck energy than to clearing out your space.<br>\nGo through your shelves and closet and see what you can let go. Some old clothes you haven’t worn in over 2 years? Or this gift from your mother-in-law that you only keep because of her? Old books? It’s time! Pack it up and pass it to those who might benefit from it more than you (check out <a href=\"http://bravebelle.com/9-things-i-threw-out-to-welcome-more-abundance-love-and-happiness/\">my other article</a> of what to throw out for more fresh energy)</p>\n<h3>2. Use crystals to energize your water with love</h3>\n<p>It is said that water has memory. What it means is that water easily takes on the energy of the environment. If you energize it with hatred or anger – you will be literally drinking energy of these emotions.<br>\nThis is why blessing your water is such a beautiful practice. But I always had a&nbsp;problem with it… First of all – I never remember to do it. And secondly – apart from me, here in Poland,&nbsp;rarely anyone&nbsp;agrees it’s a beautiful practice (they think it’s plainly crazy! haha)<br>\nSo instead, I keep a rose quartz crystal in my water jar. I first do a little meditation to cleanse its energy and fill it with unconditional love. Occasionally I repeat this process. Crystals should get cleared about once in a month.</p>\n<h3>3. Burn incense to clear negative energy in your house</h3>\n<p>There are many ways you can clear energy.According to Feng Shui you can use bells and clapping to clear your house. But if your family or housemates are not into energy work, this might be a bit challenging to do. So the easier option would be to burn some white sage (you can buy dry sage for smudging) or palo santo (it’s a wood originally from Latin America, so might be a bit harder to get). Both have a distinct smell, so when not used to, your housemate might find it rather uncomfortable.And this is why I recommend incense. These also have clearing properties but are much more popular. People are familiar with them, they are ok with their smell and they don’t immediately link them to some “weird” energy clearing ritual :)</p>\n<h3>4. Add salt to your bath</h3>\n<p>Salt is famous for its energy clearing properties. There are many ways you can use it. You can sprinkle some around your house. You can put little containers with salt in the corners of each room. Or you can use them in your home spa – and this is my favorite way to take advantage of the cleansing properties of salt!About once a week I take a long hot bath with salt. It’s perfect for clearing your aura and energizing you.</p>\n<h3>5. Home made&nbsp;body scrub with salt</h3>\n<p>Another way to get all the benefits of salt is to add it to your DIY beauty products. I mix salt with oil of olive and use it as body scrub.</p>\n<h3>6. Get 30 min only for yourself in the morning</h3>\n<p>Before everybody else wakes up, and before all the to-do tasks start taking your time, dedicate just 30 minutes to yourself. It is a perfect time to meditate, journal and do energy practices.Once the day starts it is much more difficult to find the time for yourself. By the time the evening comes, you are usually too tired. On top of that, right after you wake up, you are naturally in a deeper state of mind (<em>alpha</em>) which makes it easier for you to meditate or do any other rituals that require you to connect to your psychic abilities, Third Eye or intuition.This way you can also make sure that nobody will interrupt you.</p>\n<h3>7. Connect with like-minded&nbsp;people</h3>\n<p>There is one important truth to keep in mind – anything that you have experienced, no matter how amazing it’s been for you, is yours and should not be imposed on anyone. So even though you know exactly why your loved ones are experiences these difficulties, or why they suffer or experience physical traumas – don’t offer your opinion unless you’re asked.I know how much you’re tempted to do it. After all, when you find the key to feeling better you want to share it with the ones you love. You want to share with them what you just read about energy work, or which crystal is the best to keep in bedroom for a good night of sleep… But, if they are not interested, you will only push them away.Instead, find people who do share your interests. It is important to discuss with others your views and learn from each other. By all means, do talk about your practices, do offer your advice – just do it wit the right people, who want it and who share these interests with you. And these does not have to be your closest friends or family.Go on Facebook and search for groups, especially the ones in your city. Join&nbsp;yoga&nbsp;classes. See if there are any workshops where you work. Or even join international festivals for people like you and me. It will give you the much needed contact and will not jeaopardize your relationships.</p>\n<h3>8. Schedule breaks for breathing</h3>\n<p>Sounds silly – but trust me, no other practice beats deep breathing. The problem is that most of us breathe in a very shallow and fast way, which puts our body in a constant state of stress!The solution is super easy. Every 2 hours or so, schedule a 5 min break. Go to the bathroom (or anywhere when you can be alone and relax). Close your eyes and inhale deeply into you belly expanding your chest. And then slowly exhale. It was within the first few months of our relationship and we were crazy in love. He asked me this: What if one day we don’t feel like this anymore? What if the excitement and passion are gone?** I never understood his question. For me the answer was easy. You just work on keeping it exciting. You decide how long it lasts. I think too many people confuse falling in love with love. But it’s not the same. When you fall in love, you do just that: you fall. It’s a passive act. This amazing and strong feeling overflows you. But you don’t have to do much yourself. You don’t have to force yourself to do anything. Everything comes naturally. It’s as there was some power doing things for you. True love is what comes after that. When you’re not falling anymore. When you’re standing, fully in control. And now that things stop just happening to you, what do you choose? Do you choose to love or not? I know this couple who has been married for 3 years now. And whenever I see them, they are radiating, full of love and appreciation for each other. Really inspiring. They wrote an article about love, and here is what he says about love: *What is love? We can say we love someone for their smile, their intelligence or even their dress sense. What we love about those things are how they make us feel, and to me, that’s not love — that’s the “feeling” of love which changes, dulls over time and eventually dissipates, to return again when the wind blows. It’s a conscious decision. Imagine you decide to lose weight. That’s your decision, your commitment. You know what you have to do to lose weight. You need to work out, you need to eat healthy, drink more water, sleep more. You will not always feel like working out, you might have other (much more interesting) plans, but you know that if you want to lose weight, you need to go to the gym. It will not always be easy, and sometimes maybe not even that enjoyable, but if you made a decision to lose weight and if you’re committed, you know what to do. And you might not always want to stick to a diet, but you know if you break it, you will not lose weight. Your decision is followed by more decisions, and sometimes you have to stick to them despite the obstacles. You know the reward. A much better thing is just around the corner. And you know that you might have to struggle on the way, but your focus remains on that sweet feeling you chose for yourself. Love is the same. It’s a choice. There will be times when you’d rather act in an unloving or selfish way. You will not always feel attracted to your partner. You will not always want to deal with the drama and problems and wonder why you have to help them overcome their problems and support them. There will be times when you’d much rather go out with your friends then be there for your partner when they need you. And in all these moments you make a decision: do I choose to love or not? By no means is it a book about relationships, and yet one of the best advice I ever got about love comes from there. He says that people too often forget that love is a verb. They complain they don’t love their partners anymore. Then he asks them: What do you do? And they usually respond that nothing. They’re just waiting for the love to come back again. But if you want love, than act with love, he says. What do people in love do? Do the same. Touch and hug your partner. Get them gifts. Spend time with them. Appreciate them. Only this way can you make love re-appear in your life. Actively. Life is not meant to be just pain and suffering. And certainly love is not meant to be a continuous struggle. I remember thinking many times in my relationship : It shouldn’t be that difficult. And I really don’t think it should. It should be much easier. Said that, life is not all joy and excitement. You will hit obstacles. Just like you hit obstacles with everything you do in your life, be it work, traveling, buying a house, you will hit obstacles with your partner, too. But how come we are ready to overcome them in any other area of our lives but love? How come when it comes to relationships the moment we experience difficulties we give up? You don’t quit your work if you make a mistake. Why would you quit your relationship then? I see many people giving up saying that it wasn’t meant to be. Just because a difficult time came. Maybe. But maybe it was meant to be. Maybe she or he was the one. Maybe there was a reason for this difficulty to show up. Imagine two people deeply in love. And imagine that a woman was getting sick and one day would develop cancer. And she will lose her hair, her breast, she will become pale and white. Her beauty and light will disappear. She will need a strong man by her side to love her despite all. So maybe that difficulty was for the man to make him stronger and to love her despite her looks and moods. Maybe it was to build a man’s strength so that in the moment when she will really need him, he will not have doubts, but strongly and lovingly be by her side, just like she needs him to? Maybe they were meant to be but they just gave up too easily? If you look at love as a conscious decision, you will love them no matter the obstacles. When you fall in love, you’re given a very precious gift. It’s like a big box filled with all the amazing things you’ve ever wanted and wished for. And it’s all yours. But there is one thing that we tend to ignore. It’s that writing on the box: Fragile. You’ll be able to enjoy it as long as you take care of it. But if you shake it too much, you kick it around, and you neglect it, then you’ll break it. If you believe in God, or Universe, think of falling in love as a gift from a higher power. They are showing you how amazing your life can be if there is love in it. But the higher power cannot love for you. Only you can do it. They are showing you something amazing and asking: Would you like that in your life? You decision to love (or not) is the answer to that question. Make a decision to love. And then do simply that. It will not always be easy, and sometimes maybe not even that enjoyable, but if you made a decision to lose weight and if you’re committed, you know what to do.\nAnd you might not always want to stick to a diet, but you know if you break it, you will not lose weight. Your decision is followed by more decisions, and sometimes you have to stick to them despite the obstacles. You know the reward. A much better thing is just around the corner. And you know that you might have to struggle on the way, but your focus remains on that sweet feeling you chose for yourself.\n\nLove is the same. It’s a choice.\n\nThere will be times when you’d rather act in an unloving or selfish way. You will not always feel attracted to your partner. You will not always want to deal with the drama and problems and wonder why you have to help them overcome their problems and support them. There will be times when you’d much rather go out with your friends then be there for your partner when they need you.\n\nAnd in all these moments you make a decision: do I choose to love or not? And once you answer this question, you know exactly what to do.\n\nThere is another beautiful quote about love, and this one comes from 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People. By no means is it a book about relationships, and yet one of the best advice I ever got about love comes from there.\n\nHe says that people too often forget that love is a verb. They complain they don’t love their partners anymore.\nThen he asks them: What do you do?\nAnd they usually respond that nothing. They’re just waiting for the love to come back again.\nBut if you want love, than act with love, he says. What do people in love do? Do the same.  Touch and hug your partner. Get them gifts. Spend time with them. Appreciate them. Only this way can you make love re-appear in your life. Actively.\n\nLife is not meant to be just pain and suffering. And certainly love is not meant to be a continuous struggle. I remember thinking many times in my relationship : It shouldn’t be that difficult. And I really don’t think it should. It should be much easier.\n\nSaid that, life is not all joy and excitement. You will hit obstacles. Just like you hit obstacles with everything you do in your life, be it work, traveling, buying a house,  you will hit obstacles with your partner, too. But how come we are ready to overcome them in any other area of our lives but love? How come when it comes to relationships the moment we experience difficulties we give up? You don’t quit your work if you make a mistake. Why would you quit your relationship then?\n\nI see many people giving up saying that it wasn’t meant to be. Just because a difficult time came.\nMaybe. But maybe it was meant to be. Maybe she or he was the one. Maybe there was a reason for this difficulty to show up.\n\nImagine two people deeply in love. And imagine that a woman was getting sick and one day would develop cancer. And she will lose her hair, her breast, she will become pale and white. Her beauty and light will disappear. She will need a strong man by her side to love her despite all.\nSo maybe that difficulty was for the man to make him stronger and to love her despite her looks and moods. Maybe it was to build a man’s strength so that in the moment when she will really need him, he will not have doubts, but strongly and lovingly be by her side, just like she needs him to?\nMaybe they were meant to be but they just gave up too easily?\n\nIf you look at love as a conscious decision, you will love them no matter the obstacles.\n\nWhen you fall in love, you’re given a very precious gift. It’s like a big box filled with all the amazing things you’ve ever wanted and wished for. And it’s all yours. But there is one thing that we tend to ignore. It’s that writing on the box: Fragile. You’ll be able to enjoy it as long as you take care of it. But if you shake it too much, you kick it around, and you neglect it, then you’ll break it.\n\nIf you believe in God, or Universe, think of falling in love as a gift from a higher power. They are showing you how amazing your life can be if there is love in it. But the higher power cannot love for you. Only you can do it. There is so much misconception around what Tantra is, I often don’t even use the word anymore.We think Tantra is about sex. And well, to some degree it is. But if you think Tantra is just about sex it’s like saying football is about push-ups. There is just so much more!Tantra is a way of living. It is a very old spiritual practice, dating to the oldest sacred books, the Vedas. The truth is, that if you love life, you are a Tantrika! Because Tantra celebrates life and everything that is a part of.If you were ever curious&nbsp;about what Tantra is, here are main concepts that build this philosophy (and I hope they will inspire you to step on this path with me sister!):</p> <h3>1. This material world and everything in it is&nbsp;sacred and meant to be enjoyed</h3> <p>This is probably the main concept distinguishing Tantra from other practices. While many religions and philosophies consider material goods either bad or simply unnecessary, Tantra recognizes them as sacred. Everything that is created by the divine, is divine.If you look at the word “material”, it only means “made of matter”. This is why Tantra believes in enjoying life along with all the material things in it. &nbsp;That does not mean losing control over your life, but if you know your limits, all the material things are for you and it’s ok to desire them, to aspire to have more and enjoy it.That also means it is ok to enjoy your body, because your body is also a material manifestation. For Tantra your body is sacred, and should be treated as sacred.</p> <h3>2.&nbsp;The feminine (Shakti) is&nbsp;ACTIVE!</h3> <p>In a modern world it is often said that the feminine is passive in nature. It is receiving, while the masculine is giving and active.Tantra has a different point of view. In Tantra, it’s the feminine that is active and creative. Shiva (the masculine essence) represents consciousness – a platform, stillness, on which Shakti (the feminine essence) creates. All manifestation is Shakti.It’s a very interested concept. You are Shakti, because you are a physical manifestation. But you also experience Shakti (you breath her, you see her, you live in her).&nbsp;&nbsp;That is true for both women and men. We all have both Shiva and Shakti in us. Consider simply that a man’s body is made of Shakti. This is why the idea of the masculine and feminine goes beyond genders.&nbsp;And both women and men can tap into both of these energies depending on what they wish to&nbsp;accomplish and experience. When we meditate, for example, we embrace our inner Shiva. But when we want to create something (be it a business project, a piece of art, or a baby), we step into our Shakti.Shakti is a core concept in Tantra, which is why the next point is so important in a Tantrik way of life.</p> <h3>3.&nbsp;The worship of a goddess</h3> <p>You could say that Tantra is women-focused which is such a refreshment to all the other philosophies (the core figures in many religions and practices are male, such as Jesus, Buddha or Mohammed).Because it’s the Shakti that has created our physical world (and the physical world <em>IS</em> Shakti), Tantra puts a lot of emphasis on honoring the Goddess. You will find many practices centered around women, allowing them to <em>be</em>. This is very important, because our society has been suppressing the feminine for very long.Tantra creates space for women to embody their Shakti through dance, emotions, movement, pleasure and singing. In Tantra the masculine remains present and still allowing the Goddess to come out and be free. This is why so many women navigate towards Tantra. They can finally feel free to be themselves, and instead of being silenced, or made feel guilty, they feel honored and appreciated.</p> <h3>4. The power of rituals</h3> <p>Tantra teaches you to find beauty and divinity in everyday situations. This is why rituals are such a big part of this practice. Apart from the traditional rituals, Tantra encourages to turn every little activity into a true ritual: showering, putting a lotion on your body, eating, doing dishes, and yes – sex, too!A ritual adds meaning. So light the candles, incense, play a soft music, and bring your awareness to what you do.&nbsp;This fills up your life with more joy and pleasure.</p> <h3>5.
