| title | Did Bakkt Just Move $1 Billion BTC? |
| body | This is pure speculation but it’s worth considering. $1 billion worth of Bitcoin was just moved to a single, unknown wallet. Was it Bakkt? But first, what is Bakkt? Bakkt is a subsidiary of the Intercontinental Exchange, the same company that owns the New York Stock Exchange. Bakkt was set up to enable consumers and institutions to seamlessly buy, sell, store and spend digital assets. Its flagship offering is physically settled bitcoin futures. In fact, just last month they received regulatory approval and plans to launch it’s platform on September 23 of this year. Again, this is pure speculation but seems interesting that just weeks before the launch, over 94,000 bitcoins was moved to a single wallet, which also has $36.7 million BCH and $16.3 million BSV. I’m excited about Bakkt. I see this a first step of bringing cryptocurrency mainstream. There are over 500 million stock buyers in the world who have never owned crypto. These people won’t come in without Wall Street holding their hand. And if Wall Street and other financial firms don’t get involved, crypto will never see mass adoption. This is clearly a win for those of us who got in early. What do you think? |

| title | You're Cooking Chicken Nuggets Wrong! |
| body | Chicken nuggets. I would guess most people don’t give much thought on the best way to cook them. Throw ‘em in the oven or pull up to the drive-thru at McDonald’s. I’m here to teach you how to properly cook chicken nuggets. No oven involved. First off, let’s get one thing clear. Chicken is a lot like fish. It’s not to be used as a protein source. In fact, chicken and fish are closer to vegetables than meat. If you want chicken to resemble meat, it’s best to cook it over a fire with Sweet Baby Ray’s or turn it in to a nugget. Ok, let’s get to the meat! (pun intended) The best way to cook a chicken nugget is to poke it with a stick and hold it over a campfire. But that’s not always ideal. So, let’s get to the next best thing. Yep, you guessed it. The cast iron skillet! Cast iron is the only way to cook. Don’t believe me? Read this https://steemit.com/food/@myworldview/the-only-way-to-heat-up-leftovers What do we need to get started? Obviously, we need chicken nuggets. I’m using Tyson’s with 100% all-natural ingredients and no antibiotics ever! And, of course, we need a cast iron skillet. We’ll also need some oil and a fork. I know what you’re thinking. “Chicken nuggets are frozen; how do you fry frozen food?” The answer is, you don’t. There are several methods for thawing frozen nuggets. First option would be to pull them out of the freezer about an hour before you cook them. But that takes too long. It would be quicker to use an oven. But we’re not doing an oven because that’s not the proper way. We’re adding flavor, baby! The second option would be to put them in the microwave for about two minutes. And that works well. The third option is for purists. Throw the nuggets and some water in the skillet, put a lid on and steam them! It not only thaws them, but it adds moisture. Now we’re ready for the final and most important step. Put some oil in the pan and heat it up. This is key – the oil needs to be hot! And there are two reasons why. Number one, food won’t stick to the pan if the oil is hot. Number two, it puts a delicious crust on the food. I don’t use a lot of oil for nuggets. I find too much oil will soak in them and will be too mushy. I would use maybe a tablespoon. But anyway, get the oil up to temperature and carefully put the nuggets in so they’re not on top of one another but rather so each one has full contact with the pan’s surface. Heat them on each side for about a minute. I tend to use a fork to flip each one over rather than a spatula. As you can see, the chicken that’s trying to be meat is perfection! Look at that golden crust. Mmmmmmmm Go get your pan and give it a try! You’ll thank me later. That’s all for now! |

| title | Living with Diabetes Update #1 |
| body | What’s it like having a child with type 1 diabetes? I suppose in my case it might be a bit different than others because I also have type 1. But we’ll not focus on that now. I’d like to talk about the daily routine and all the emotions. I skipped over a lot of details in my previous post and I’d like to talk a little bit more about our time in the ER early Saturday morning before we continue. I don’t have a clear recollection. I was up all night with Bodie. The one thing I clearly remember is my reaction when I heard what his sugar count was. The first blood sugar test was with a glucometer. In most cases when the sugar is over 600 is just reads “Hi”. Blood needs to be tested in a lab to get a better reading. I heard the nurse say, “It’s over 600.” Immediately I felt weak. I tried to explain it away the best I could, but nothing made sense. I broke out in a sweat and had to sit down. Time stood still. I looked at my boy in disbelief. There was no way I passed this on to him. After a bit of time I called my wife to tell her the diagnosis. I don’t remember the conversation, but I remember her crying just like I did earlier. All I could say was “It will be ok. We’ll get through this.” I believed what I told her. The difficult part was thinking what’s life going to be like now? What I’m about to say, I mean in no negative way whatsoever. We have four kids. Our life is crazy right now. It’s exhausting just raising four healthy kids. Now what? Can we even do this? Let’s get to the point of this article now. What’s it like having a child with type 1 diabetes? Life is different. There are some changes. There are extra concerns. The biggest change is our eating habits. We already eat healthy, that’s not an issue. My wife cooks all the time. She’s always looking for ways to make every meal better for us. What has changed with our eating is how much food Bodie can have. We measure and weigh everything to get an accurate carbohydrate count. On days he’s extra hungry, we look for protein rich foods with less carbs. On days he’s not so hungry, we look for foods that will stick with him. We’re thinking more about the types of food he can have. Snacks. He’s limited to three small snacks a day. One in the morning, one in the afternoon and one at bedtime. Each snack is limited to 15 – 30 carbs. So, if he chooses something fun, it will be a small amount of whatever he chooses. He has been pretty good at this. He usually wants cheese and crackers, cashews or sunflower seeds and a half an apple. This adds up to about 25 carbs but it’s a lot of food. And it keeps him satisfied. With all this food come sugar checking and insulin doses. We check his sugar with each meal, mid-morning and bedtime. We count his mealtime carbs to determine how much insulin he’ll need. Currently we dose 1 unit of insulin per each 15 gr of carbs. And we check his sugar before each meal to determine if a correction if required. If his count is above 150, he needs an extra 0.5 unit per every 50 count over. It’s a good thing we learned math in school. Let me give you an example. Let’s say his meal is 58 carbs and his blood sugar is 212. Here’s how we calculate the insulin dose: 58/15 = 3.866. We round that up to 4 units. This covers his meal. His sugar is 212, which is above 150. We look at his correction. We add 0.5 unit for each 50 count over 150. 212 is 62 over. We would add 1 unit to correct his high sugar. He gets a total of five units. This is with every meal. No exceptions. It’s become a science and has forced us to add about 10 to 15 minutes of mealtime prep Moving on but still staying with food. Certain foods have always affected Bodie in different ways. Foods with high sugar, certain food coloring and msg had a negative impact such as him being grumpy, aggressive, mean and causing him to not sleep very well. We were already paying attention to how food affects his body. Now we also pay attention to how food affects his blood sugar. For example, one day he had two slices of pizza. Two hours after he ate, his sugar was really high. Same with pancakes. It causes a higher than usual sugar count. We need to keep that in mind and serve those foods not as often. For breakfast, instead of eggs, sausage, pancakes and fruit, we would substitute toast with jelly for a pancake. Toast with jelly doesn’t have the same outcome as a pancake. Insulin. I’ve been on insulin for over twenty years. I take two, sometimes three shots a day. I hated needles when I first started, and I still do. It’s not an enjoyable experience. Giving Bodie insulin probably pains me more then it would somebody else. I don’t know? Bodie does do better than I expected with getting shots. But he does have his days. This past Saturday evening he was having an especially hard time. When I gave him his bedtime dose, he cried and cried. It broke my heart and brought tears to my eyes, as well. I can understand what it feels like for the needle to hit a sensitive spot. The pain is real. It hurts and sometimes makes you angry that this is the rest of your life. It can get you depressed. We also have doctor visits and blood tests. For the next few months, he’ll have an appointment once a month. And after things settle down and he’s under control, it will be once every three months. We live in a remote area of Pennsylvania. There aren’t specialists close by. I think any good parent will want the best for their children. We want the best for ours. We’re staying with his doctor in Hershey. It’s a two-hour drive. We’ll have to stop for food and gas. We’ll have tolls to pay. It makes for a long and expensive day. And, of course there will be a lot of prescriptions to fill and pick up. More running around. It wasn’t intentional for this to move in a negative way. It’s just the reality of having a lifelong disease and managing it. It is a lot of work. Let me repeat, it is a LOT of work. With all that work, when the results are bad, it brings you down emotionally and physically. But when the results are good, the work isn’t that big of a deal. Managing diabetes is a roller coaster of ups and downs. You do the best you can and look for the positives. I’m not sure if I covered everything I wanted to. If this article seems scatterbrained and a roller coaster of emotions, see the above paragraph. I want my writing to be real. I want people to see what real life is. There are good days and there are bad days. I wouldn’t say the past few weeks have been bad days, but they’ve been a challenge. They have been hard. My wife and I are drained, exhausted. We’re running on fumes. But we’re not giving up because we have hope or the future. And Bodie is getting better. His blood sugar is getting close to where it needs to be. He’s back to his normal self, which is crazy and silly. My hope is to continue writing about this journey. Here is a link to my first article: https://steemit.com/blog/@myworldview/a-medical-emergency Let me leave you with another positive. Try to be happy in whatever situation you’re in. That is all! |

| title | A Medical Emergency! |
| body | Early Saturday morning around 3:00 AM I rushed my eight-year-old boy to the emergency room because he was having trouble breathing. We were concerned he wasn’t getting enough oxygen. His color was off, his hands and feet felt like ice and he was not in his right mind. This was a scary time. Within minutes of being at the ER, the scary time got even worse. The one thing I feared would get passed on to any of my children came true. My boy was in diabetic ketoacidosis. His blood sugar was 901. We live in a small community and the local hospital was not set up for this type of treatment. However, the doctor working in the ER was amazing. He knew exactly what was wrong and what to do. And he knew we needed moved to a bigger facility. Inside of an hour there were plans to airlift him to the children’s hospital at Hershey, Pa. Just the week before he had the flu. He got better after a few days but then started acting sick again. We thought his immune system was down and maybe got pneumonia. Plus, he barely ate anything for several days. His body was weak. We had him at the doctor Friday morning and that made sense. I think we arrived at Hershey around 7:30 AM. We were met in his room by 7 doctors and nurses. The next few hours were kind of a blur. I was still processing the diagnosis. My wife arrived about a half hour later. We were both in shock. There is our eight-year-old in a hospital bed with wires and tubes attached to him and he’s completely out of it. His eyes were sunk in his head. He had no color. He lost probably 10 pounds. He looked like a skeleton with skin. I wanted to cry. And I did. I have type 1 diabetes and I know what the rest of his life will be like. He will be able to live a “normal” life but controlling his blood sugar is a lot of work. It’s a lot of heavy lifting that he will have to do himself. Saturday was a busy day. Testing was being done hourly. People were in and out of the room. All I really remember is hearing his test results each time. I was still in shock. My wife and I were texting family and friends with updates. We’re asking nurses questions. We’re trying to figure out what’s next. There’s really nothing you can do but wait. This is where faith comes in. I’m a born-again Christian. My faith rests entirely on my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I can’t always understand why things happen the way they do. Especially bad things. We live in an amazing world. This creation we see every day is miraculous and points to the handywork of the Creator. Unfortunately, it’s a world stained by sin. Sin causes brokenness, disease and death. The good news is my God is a God restoration and healing. He cares about His people. I can’t even begin to count the amount of people who reached out to us and were praying for us. I was a total mess, but it was those prayers that kept me lifted up. God showed up in the hospital and gave me rest and a peace of mind. We were originally told to expect to be in the hospital for a minimum of four days. But something happened. All day on Saturday the test results were showing a very slow progress to getting his numbers where they needed to be. But by late evening, his results were starting to move fast in the right direction and by midnight he was where he needed to be. He was also coming out of his stupor. But, unfortunately, he was also very agitated. He had no idea where he was. He kept asking me to take him downstairs, asked for his brothers, asked for something to drink, asked for mama, etc. Each time I told him he was in the hospital he didn’t believe me. He even got to the point that he called me a liar and said I was being mean to him. I argued with him for hours. I was exhausted. Thursday night was when I last slept. Thankfully I was able to calm him down and get some sleep myself. It’s now Sunday morning. He’s more alert and aware of his surroundings but still not sure what’s going on. He can have some food and drink now which makes him really happy. My wife isn’t at the hospital yet. We have an eleven-month-old girl who still nurses. We both thought it would be best if she was at home each night to help her sleep. I’m waiting for her to arrive before I break the news to him of why he is in the hospital. Late morning, she finally arrives. I sit down next to Bodie and ask if knows what’s going on. I tell him he has diabetes just like I do. Right away he started crying. It felt like somebody ripped my heart out. But we did get him calmed down and was able to talk a little bit. He’s still not fully aware at this point. It took till the end of the week for him to realize what happened. The doctor came in the room early afternoon and was very pleased with how well he responded to the treatment and how well he recovered rom being in DKA. The doctor is making plans for us to attend a few diabetic education classes for Monday and then be able to go home. Monday was a long day and we’ll skip over that. And I’ll briefly go over the next few weeks. The first week was such a blur. It’s basically a major life adjustment for our entire family. My wife and I were in survival mode. Thankfully we had our church family bring meals for us all week (and the following week). Bodies sugar was running high the whole week and we adjusted his insulin doses a few times. The next week was a little bit better. His sugar was still high but overall was lower. This past week was really good. We had several checks where his sugar was right on target. I think his insulin doses are right where they need to be. He has his energy back. He gained 11 pounds. He looks and acts like his normal self. And I think he understands what’s going on. Overall his sugar is still a bit high. But it’s getting closer to his target range. I think once he can get outside and get some exercise that will really start to help. Life is tough right now. This is the last thing I ever wanted to pass on to any of my kids. We’re exhausted. All I want to do is pass out and sleep for the next several days. But life goes on with its many responsibilities. But I do want to end on a positive because no matter how bad life can get, there is always something to be thankful for. I’m thankful I can have a better relationship with him. We can go through this together. We both have diabetes and require insulin. I think it helps him knowing that he’s not alone. I can encourage him. I take my insulin shots with him. And he is getting better with it. Each day is does get easier. Controlling diabetes is a lot of hard work. But it’s rewarding when you can live a normal life. It’s just something extra you must do. It’s just a little bit of extra planning. We count his carbs for each meal. Check his blood sugar at each meal and in between. We figure out insulin doses required at meals. After a while it begins to be second nature. I do want to share some needs. I started a Go Fund Me page to help with some added expenses. We have a lot of trips to Hershey. We live in a remote area and there aren’t any specialists close by. The doctor’s office is a two-hour drive. I’d like to raise some money to help pay for the added traveling expenses. (gas, food and tolls) We have pretty good insurance but there are still some out-of-pocket expenses that will arise. We only got one bill so far and thankfully the insurance company covered all of it but I’m not sure what we might be responsible for paying. I don’t think it will be much, but one never knows. I know I probably skipped over a lot of details. I could probably write a book about everything that happened. Ask any questions. Hopefully this story will encourage somebody. | title | The Little Red Hen |
| body | I just put my four-year old to bed. He likes to read before he gets tucked in. Tonight, he wanted to read his favorite book at the moment, “the chicken book”. The actual name is The Little Red Hen. It was one of my favorite books as a kid and I’m happy my love for the book gets passed on to at least one of my kids. It’s a silly little book about a hen finding a grain of wheat. She asks for help to plant, harvest, mill it, etc. from the other farm animals but they all refuse. I think we can find some valuable life lessons from this story and I’d like to share some of my thoughts. Some of my ideas might be straying a bit far from the book but hang in there. I think they’ll all come together in some sort of natural way. The first page of the book starts off with the hen finding a grain of wheat and deciding to plant it. This got me thinking about private property and what gives man the right to private ownership. After all, we all share this planet. What gives you the right to exclusiveness concerning what the Earth provides as a common gift to all men? I find my answers from the One who created the heavens and the earth. The Word of God is where I turn for all authority. I know some of you may not believe the same as I do and that’s fine. I’m not going to just cite the Bible and move on. I think basing an argument on authority alone is a bit foolish. You may not believe the same authority as I and I may not believe the authority you. If we cite authority, I also believe we need to use reason and logic. Let’s go to some Scripture. This will set the basis for my reasoning. Right after creation, God commanded man to “subdue” the earth and “have dominion over” it. (Genesis 1:28) The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 115:16 “…even the heavens are the Lord’s; But the earth he has given to the children of men.” You might ask what does this have to do with private ownership? Let’s look at the Ten Commandments, specifically number eight. You shall not steal. (Exodus 20:15) Stealing implies private ownership. Ok, let’s reason. I think we can all agree that we should improve the earth by cultivating and enriching it, make use of it to better our lives. Look at how much our lives have changed for the better in just the past 100 years. We can travel the world in numerous types of transportation. That same type of transportation allows us to ship goods on a global scale. We can communicate instantly with phones and computers. We can cure sickness with modern medicine. In achieving all this, what does it require from man? It requires labor and thought. This labor and ingenuity is an extension of your personal life. Therefore, the fruits of your labor and intellect are your private property. It belongs exclusively to you. I’d like to quote from the Second Essay Concerning Civil Government by John Locke. I think his reasoning concerning a person’s property and ownership is brilliant. “Though the earth and all inferior creatures be common to all men, yet every man has a property in his own person. This, nobody has any right to but himself. The labour of his body and the work of his hands, we may say, are properly his. Whatsoever, then, he removes out of the state that Nature hath provided and left it in, he hath mixed his labour with it, and joined to it something that is his own, and thereby makes it his property… He that is nourished by the acorns he picked up under an oak, or the apples ha gathered from the trees in the wood, has certainly appropriated them to himself. Nobody can deny but the nourishment is his. I ask, then, when did they begin to be his? When he digested? Or when he ate? Or when he boiled? Or when he brought them home? Or when he picked them up? And it is plain, if the first gathering made them not his, nothing else could. That labour…added something to them [the acorns or apples] more than Nature, the common mother of all, had done, and so they became his private right. And will any one say he had no right to those acorns or apples he thus appropriated because he had not the consent of all mankind to make them his?...If such a consent was necessary, {the} man [would have] starved, notwithstanding the plenty God had given him…It is the taking any part of what is common, and removing it out of the state Nature leaves it in, which begins the property, without which the common {gift from God] is of no use. …Thus the law of reason makes the deer that who hath killed it; it is allowed to be his goods who hath bestowed his labour upon it, though, before, it was the common right of every one.” To sum this up, yes, we all share in common the earth and what it provides. But when you apply your physical or intellectual labor on the common, it becomes your property. Nobody else can take it from you. Now we get to the meat of the book. The little red hen is asking if anyone would like to help her with improving her property. The answer she gets every time is a big fat no. I’d like to talk about an issue I see in our culture today, laziness. Or lack of a good work ethic. I’m going to my Authority first, the Bible. There is a lot to be said about the lazy, but I’ll quote some of those that go well with reason. Proverbs 10:4-5 He who has a slack hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent makes rich. He who gathers in summer is a wise son; He who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame. Proverbs 14:23 In all labor there is profit, but idle chatter leads only to poverty. Proverbs 19:15 Laziness casts one into a deep sleep, an idle person will suffer hunger. Let’s also go back to Genesis where God commanded man to subdue the earth and have dominion over it. This requires work. To be lazy is to not work and therefore, is a sin against God. Yes, I’m still aware you may not believe the same authority as I, so let’s reason together. What is the purpose of the lazy? I think I have the answer, but I’ll hold on to it till we get to the end of the book. I’d like to talk about the problem with the lazy. It all boils down to one thing – the lazy add nothing of value to society. They offer no improvement to the state which Nature has left. They offer nothing to better our lives. Those who work add something of value to society. In this children’s story, the little red hen is offering a partnership in the work. She found a grain of wheat. Remember, the grain of wheat is her property because she bestowed her labor upon it, removing it from the state which nature had left. She is offering to the other animals “will you help me improve on this common gift? It will benefit all of us.” In a free market capitalist society, I imagine she would be negotiating a wage for their labor. The animals would be free to accept, negotiate or deny the offer. As we continue to read the story, each time an offer is presented, the animals choose not to work. They would rather play, and as we’ll get into now, be a burden on society. We come to the end of the book. The little red hen has asked who would like to help plant the wheat, harvest the wheat, carry it to the mill, make the flour into dough and bake the bread. Again, each time the animals answered “No”. Now she asks, “Who will help me eat the bread?” I think you can guess the answer. Let’s go back to my previous question. What is the purpose of the lazy? I would say the purpose of the lazy is to enjoy the fruits of other’s labor. This is a big problem. It leads to jealousy and redistribution of wealth. The industrious individual loses his property rights. I see this coming to head right here in America. The “one percenters” are being villainized as greedy and taking from the poor. In reality the wealthy are providing a good or service that a lot of people want and are willing to pay for it. In most cases, that good or service makes our life a whole lot better. They also exchange a wage for your labor if you so choose and you are free to negotiate that exchange. So how are the lazy a burden on society? I’ll share my personal experience. I work very hard to support my family. Living is expensive. Because of our welfare system, I not only have to support my family, I must support those who refuse to work and are dependent on government handouts. And yes, there are a lot of people who take advantage of the system. On a side note, the government has no authority to be in the welfare/charity business. Charity was always left to the individual. I need to back things own a bit. I need to stay on point. We’ll get back to the story and how it ends. As we see the lazy are always ready to take something they didn’t work for. The little red hen did all the work. The bread is the fruit of her labor. It is an extension of her life. It is her private property. She can do with it what she wants. She can give it away, sell it or keep it. She decided to keep it while teaching a hard life lesson – if you don’t work, you don’t eat! I would like to add I am a compassionate person to those who are truly in need. We all should give a helping hand when we can. Just keep the government out of it. That is all for now. |

| title | The Little Red Hen |
| body | I just put my four-year old to bed. That is all for now. |

| title | The only way to heat up leftovers... |
| body | In my humble opinion, there are really only two ways to cook. The first method is fire and meat. I love any meat cooked over flames, even fake meat like chicken nuggets. The other method of cooking is with a cast iron skillet. And that’s what we’ll talk about today. Below are my Christmas leftovers heating up. Why do I think this is the best way to heat up leftovers? That’s a good question. Hopefully I can put together a well thought out idea. But before we get into that, let’s go over why I don’t like other heating methods. Probably the most popular of all but my least favorite would be using the microwave. I do feel the need to confess before we continue. I drink my coffee very slowly. It usually gets cold before I can finish a cup or even the pot. I always use the microwave to heat it up. It works. Ok, back on track. The number one reason I don’t like the microwave is the food doesn’t stay hot for very long. I don’t know why but it seems when I take the food out its super-hot and then gets cold in about as fast as it took to heat up. Am I missing something or is this normal? It’s like you have a 30 second window to eat while your meal is at optimal temperature. I eat fast, but c’mon, that’s a bit too much. The other problem I get when using the microwave is the texture of the food changes. I’ll use pancakes as an example. When they first come off the griddle there is a perfect crust to surround the ooey gooey middle. It’s to die for. The next morning you take that leftover goodness out of the refrigerator and pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds, that crusty ooey gooey bliss turns in to an ooey gooey mushy mess. Where did that buttery crust with each bite go to? It’s gone. Just like my appetite. So, the microwave? It’s just an expensive coffee warmer. What’s next on the list? The oven. On first thought this isn’t a bad way to heat up leftovers. The food will still retain a crust. But the bad part of that is usually the inside will be crusty also…and dry. And it gets this funky burnt smoke flavor. Think of eating a piece of charcoal from your outside grill. Yea, it will fill your tummy but it’s not that enjoyable. Next! I suppose some people might boil their food? I would chalk that right next to the microwave but a whole lot worse. Uuugh! Ok, let’s get to the cast iron skillet. And yes, it needs to be cast iron. I purposefully use the words cast iron to describe the skillet. All other material is inferior in every way. And why do I say that? Let’s go over some reasons now. It heats up better. It retains heat better. It retains flavor from previous uses. It’s more non-stick than marketed non-stick products. If an intruder attacks while you’re cooking it can be used as a deadly weapon. And so on and so forth. Now, there are two fundamental elements required before using cast iron. Heat and oil. Without either, you’re doomed to fail. I mostly use palm shortening. Sometimes olive oil. And almost always a pat of butter Really any cooking oil will do. And there is a key to using them correctly. The key is put the shortening in first, turn on the heat and let the skillet get hot before anything goes in. And I’m talking hot enough to where it’s just beginning to look like smoke will come rolling out. I’m not exactly sure what the temperature should be, I just know my preference is to be hot hot hot. It puts a nice crunch on whatever I’m cooking. The reason it needs to be hot is to prevent the food from sticking. From my experience if you put food in before the pan is hot enough there is a 100% chance it will stick and not cook correctly. Let’s get back to the original question. Why do I think heating leftovers in a cast iron skillet is best? Well, number one reason is it enhances the flavor. Some of that flavor does come from the palm shortening and butter I put in the pan. It’s more than that, though, and I have no idea how to explain it. The flavor just pops. Number two reason is the food stays warm longer. I can sit down and enjoy my warm meal. Even have a few interruptions from my kids. And the number three reason why I use cast iron is because it gets a delightful crunch on the outside while staying moist in the middle. It’s perfection. And maybe this reason is what makes my number one reason. Perhaps the flavor the crunchy crust seals up the flavor in the middle and then explodes in my mouth when I take a bite? I have no idea. But what I do know is cast iron makes everything better. That’s right. You heard it here first. Cast iron is king of the kitchen. And it’s not just good for heating up leftovers. Are you baking a lasagna? As soon as it comes out of the oven, cut a square and throw it in a hot skillet covered in golden butter. Mmmmmm! Same with a freshly baked apple pie. Adds a buttery golden crust to the bottom. Whatever you can think of, fry it! In cast iron, of course. That is all! |
