| title | CryptoRome — Breaking Down the Blockchain Gaming Barriers |
| body | Blockchain based gaming has come a long way in the past six months. CryptoKitties took the blockchain world by storm back in November, 2017. It was the first blockchain game to catch mass adoption, and emerged as one of the top blockchain apps of 2017. This game was different because it included a “cute” digital asset that people could own, as well as a simple, understandable game mechanic. The digital asset represented a unique kitty with its own DNA signature. People could breed their kitty to create new kitties, in hopes that the offspring would bare rare, valuable traits. These new kitties could be put up for sale (some selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars) or studded out for real ETH, as well. CryptoKitties proved that digital collectibles were a real thing, and that people could indeed place high values on scarce, digital assets. However, since CryptoKitties, many developers looked to capitalize quickly with simple pyramid-style and hot potato games. In these games, once people bought an asset, they usually didn’t have a choice in whether or not they kept the asset. Anyone else who offered a set premium price higher than the original purchase price took the asset away from the owner. This sounded bad for the owner, but in actuality, this is what the original owner was hoping for, since they made a profit and the asset didn’t really “do” anything in the game. As the name suggests, someone was always left at the top holding the bag. This summer though, we are finally going to see a giant leap in blockchain gameplay enabled by new ways in how digital assets are utilized. Ownership of assets by the game player (and not the centralized game company) will be the trend. We will see games offer character and asset improvements (leveling up) through game play as a basic feature. We will see asset interaction. And as a killer feature, we will see assets improved and developed across multiple games. CryptoRome and The Second Generation of Blockchain Gaming In the case of CryptoRome, the digital asset is land in Italia. These assets can be upgraded, built upon, and modified. The assets will first be utilized in the game “Battle for Europe,” where landowners will be able to wage a game of battle and strategy to attain resources, land, and ultimately title. We are seeing a shift to actual games utilizing digital assets that will be usable in multiple games in the future and all these games may not come from the same software publisher. CryptoRome does not only include its own assets, but it will incorporate other digital assets from other blockchain game publishers (announcements are coming soon!). Imagine upgrading your CryptoRome troops with swords, arrows, and armor from other games. Or building a gladiator arena on your land plot in CryptoRome, advertising it, charging admission, and having people bring in their gladiators from CryptoRome (or any other game) to battle in it! So what keeps the masses from buying into the blockchain gaming? We believe there are a number of factors inhibiting the masses from taking the plunge and getting involved in blockchain gaming, which utilize digital assets that belong to them beyond the life of the original game. Blockchain education — Believe it or not, a majority of people still do not have a grasp on how blockchain and gaming fit together. When speaking to a friend from Ubisoft recently to discuss our small development outfit, he was still trying to grasp why blockchain should be important to his organization. We explained some of the main aspects: You actually own your in-game assets that you purchase. The centralized game company does not own them (as opposed to almost every other game prior to now). You can upgrade the in-game assets, take them between games, and build new games around them. This is a powerful concept. In a centralized world, your character lives on the servers of a single game maker and is not open for access and development. You cannot (easily) sell your assets to someone else when you are done playing the centralized game. Wallets and payment — Most of us in the blockchain space, especially blockchain developers, are familiar with Crypto wallets and how to utilize them as well as deal with Metamask. This is not the case for the everyday people out there. The majority of our friends and siblings who love video games and board games also love the idea of character and asset development where they get to keep the item, character, or land beyond the original game. However, the biggest barrier for them is understanding cryptocurrency and the wallets. In most cases, they do not want to take the time to teach themselves or have someone else teach them how it works. The ability to participate in this movement and facilitate easier payment systems and management of these assets is key to gaining broader adoption. With CryptoRome, we believe the user should not have to know they are playing a blockchain-based game. We have gone through a number of complicated steps to provide an experience closer to what the masses expect and can understand. We are paving the way and providing a template for others in the industry to bring blockchain-based gaming to a much broader audience. The first big step we took in this direction was to accept credit cards with standard authentication. We built in conversion mechanisms on the backend for converting to cryptocurrencies and holding the digital assets in a custodial wallet for our customers. We are taking the Coinbase model of trying to make it as easy as possible to be a part of CryptoRome. Freemium Models — Everyone wants to be able to get in on the fun and try it out for free. The problem for blockchain games (especially ones using Ethereum) is that it costs money to deploy and send digital assets to people. The fees are usually paid by the game players, since they are the owners of the digital assets. These blockchain transaction costs are necessary to incentivize the running of and decentralization of the network. We get it, but we also feel strongly that in order to bring broader masses to the space, there needs to be a free tier. This free tier also needs to be unlimited in nature to continually facilitate the growth of the games’ overall network. In this school of thought, while we are capping the land in CryptoRome at the end of our land sale for villages, towns, and cities, we will always offer a free tier for access to the game and its resource markets in the form of plots. While these plots are the base level of land asset for the game, they do provide an opportunity for everyone to own a digital asset that is a part of CryptoRome. With access, players can participate in all the games and mini-games that utilize these assets (“Battle for Europe” is the first game that will do so). You can get a free CryptoRome plot today with no purchase or obligation to purchase by visiting our website: www.cryptorome.io. Our land sale starts on 17, May, 2018, and will run until 16, June, 2018. We have incorporated many of the ideas above into the roll out of CryptoRome. Standard user accounts and credit card options are available. | title | Introduction to CryptoRome |
| body | Everyone has been asking for more information about CryptoRome and gameplay. Today, we are going to explain the mechanics of the game for the version 1 release, planned for the summer of 2018. Watch for a future post titled, “A Look Behind the Curtain”, where we will reveal some of the plans for future releases of CryptoRome. Italia land being sold in the pre-sale We are currently preparing for the land sale to sell off all land in Italia. The allocation of land units, which are unique, digital assets on the Ethereum blockchain will occur at the end of the land sale. Each piece of land has a unique combination of resources and soldiers it produces per day for use within CryptoRome. Plots Plots are the free land type for the game. This piece of land lets everyone participate in the game of CryptoRome. It has the smallest allocation of soldiers and resources, but can be improved through land modifications. Plots will be limited to one per Ethereum address and Google account. Our game servers will only use one plot per account during game play when calculating military might and resources for the day. Villages Villages are the smallest of the unique, digital assets in CryptoRome that will be available for purchase during the land sale. Villages create more soldiers and resources than plots. They can also be modified over time in the game, improving their production and strength as you play. Accounts can have an uncapped number of Villages in them. The total number of Villages in Italia will be capped at the end of the land sale; no new Villages will be created in Italia following the end of the land sale. Towns Towns are the next level of land type in CryptoRome. A Town is made up of 3 Villages and comes with a bonus on resource and soldier production over 3 individual Villages. Villages can be combined to create a Town and Towns can be broken into pieces to create Villages. This makes it easy for players to combine Villages in a way to maximize their Town values. Any improvements or modification made on a player’s land (which affect overall production values and military might) are made to the actual Villages that make up the Town, not to the Town asset itself. This makes the process of splitting up a Town fairly straight forward, as the improvements would follow only the Village land unit(s) that the player previously applied them to. Cities Cities are the highest tier of land within Italia for CryptoRome. A City is made up of 9 Villages in total and comes with a bonus on resource and soldier production over the 3 Towns that would go into making the City. Villages and Towns can be combined to create Cities. Cities can also be broken into the smaller land types to facilitate the modification of resource types to maximize value of a City to the player. Improvement and Modifications of the underlying Villages that make up the City will affect the City above appropriately. Resources and Troops CryptoRome has a number of resources that are used to facilitate game play. Resource production per day are assigned to your land cards when they are created. These initial resource daily allocation amounts can be augmented through land improvements and buildings as described below. Here are some of the resource types in CryptoRome and a little about how they will be used during game play: Stone: Some building, roads, and siege weapons in CryptoRome will require stone to build. Wheat: Soldiers need food when they do battle. Having a store of food will be necessary to maintain higher numbers of soldiers. Soldiers: Soldiers are the prime resource for battle in CryptoRome. Every day, an allocation of troops is added to the players account ledger based on all the land they own, bonuses, and losses from battles for the previous day. See battle section below for more details. Examples of other resources include, but are not limited to: Iron, horses, fish, wood, pitch, limestone, and sheep. All resources, including troops, can be sold or traded among players in CryptoRome. A ledger of all accounting of resources will be written to the blockchain each day. Sales between players will also be accounted for as they occur on the Ethereum blockchain. These transactions will determine the taxes collected by Caesar and the senators for the day. See below for more details. Land Improvements and Buildings There are a lot of opportunities to upgrade your land in CryptoRome. Certain buildings and advancements result in creation of more resources. Players will also be able to create different types of soldiers that can benefit them in war and change the value of a player’s military might. A player’s weapons, generals, and soldiers all factor into the resulting military might of that player’s attacking force within each region. Examples of improvements include, but are not limited to: mines, farms, soldier schools, archery schools, lumber yards, statues, roads, and aqueducts. The 8 Wonders During the land sale, we will also be auctioning off 8 unique wonder cards that give the holders of those cards an added bonus that affect all their land holdings or military might calculations. These 8 unique CryptoRome wonder cards are the only wonders that will ever exist in the game. More details about the wonders and auction of each will come as we release the cards. The players will receive these cards immediately upon purchase as opposed to the end of the land sale. The Rest of Europe The battle for the rest of Europe is where the magic of CryptoRome will occur. Players are given the opportunity each day to deploy their troops throughout the regions of the rest of Europe. They have the day to decide how to deploy their troops, with all battle being resolved at the same time each day. The player with the most military might allocated to each block of land on the European continent is awarded the resources and benefits of that block for the day. The results of every battle are published to the Ethereum blockchain daily. This shows the immutable results of all the battles that occurred that day. When deciding which lands to conquer, players may decide to target land that produces a resource needed to complete a building or upgrade. They may decide to target the land with the weakest defenses to gain the most land in Europe for the day. There are a number of tactics and strategies a player can deploy to improve their lot in CryptoRome. So what does happens after the conclusion of battle? The player that holds the most land in the rest of Europe becomes Caesar for the next 24 hour period (Italia holdings are not used in the calculation). Why is this important? Well, the taxes mentioned previously are paid out in part to Caesar the following day. This means that 1% of all resource transactions that occur in the following 24 hour period are paid to that day’s Caesar in ETH directly to their Ethereum wallet. Senators are also allocated a portion of taxes for the day. The senators of each region will get an equal share of the 1% of resource transactions allocated to them. How do I become a Senator? The land of Europe is divided into 5 main regions. The player that holds the most land in a specific region is that region’s senator for the day. The regions are: Hispania, Germania, Britannia, Gallia, and Pannonia. European Land: Multiplier Bonus for Consecutive Days Held When a player conquers a piece of land in Europe, the daily resources it produces go to that player. There is a multiple added to land that is held for multiple consecutive days by a single player. This incentivizes players to defend the European land they have already conquered, as it gains them growing multiples in resources production. Battle Mechanics Battle results for a piece of land in Europe are calculated according to the military might of the units involved. Players allocate troops, weapons, and other bonuses to the lands they want to conquer or defend. Once a day, when it is time for all battles in Europe to be resolved, the player with the highest military might dedicated to each block of land in Europe will be anointed the winner of that block. Battle is not free. In battles, troops will be lost in the process. These losses will be accounted for on the resource ledger at the end of each day to show the number of soldiers, weapons, and equipment a player has remaining. Some items that players use in battle may be unique digital assets, such as siege equipment. Players might create these items and then want to sell them or use them in battle. These items come with a use counter. This allows the items to be used in battle multiple times, but not get destroyed until the end of the use counter is reached (i.e. end of life). The Marketplace What is a crypto game without a marketplace. The marketplace in CryptoRome is for players to trade, sell, and buy resources. They will be able to buy and trade resources with real ETH or by trading items. All transactions in the marketplace have a 3% transaction fee attached to them. 2% goes to Caesar and the senators of the day. The remaining 1% goes to funding the future development of CryptoRome as well as hosting of the game. Players will be able to sell and trade land both through the CryptoRome marketplace and on third party services such as BitGuild. Land Manipulation We mentioned Cities and Towns being comprised of Villages above. Below is a small explanation of that mechanism. Cities are made up of 9 Villages and Towns are made up of 3 Villages. All land modifications are actually done to the underlying Villages that make up the larger land units. This gives the player the ultimate flexibility to uncombine and combine land in the manner that best suits them, and maximized the value of their land. Cities and Towns come with bonus factors over the stand-alone Villages, so it is recommended that players with enough Villages combine them to maximize the resources and soldiers they receive each day. This also gives players that start out with Villages the opportunity to acquire more Villages over time and to combine them to create Towns and Cities at a later date. Also as CryptoRome adoption and popularity grows, City and Town holders will be able to break up their larger land types and sell of Villages to new player coming to the game for the going market rate. Remember, the Villages in CyptoRome will forever be finite, dictated by the early adopters that purchase the land during our land sale, starting May 17, 2018 and concluding June 16, 2018. | title | Cryptocurrency Trading - Week 1 |
| body | After a few months of tracking Ethereum and BitCoin, I finally decided to take the jump and buy my first cryptocurrency. I figured I would put up a post about my experiences both good and bad of my adventures in crypto investing. To get started, I joined Coinbase through a referral, which made taking the initial plunge much easier. This was not like investing in stocks, which I have some base experience in. I decided to start with Ethereum and purchased it at $219.00. I put in only $1000.00 that I was willing to use as my learning funds. I was surprised when it popped up that it would take 6 days for the initial coins to appear in my account. Within two days, Ethereal jumped to $305 and as you can imagine, being new to cryptocurrency, I was anxious for the initial coins to arrive so that I could capture the abrupt gains. This jump also gave me the confidence to jump in for another $1000.00. This time I grabbed LiteCoin at $44.39. This time the wait only indicated 4 days till the coins arrived. During this wait, I watched a number of coins on the market tracking websites and read a ton of white papers about different blockchains. My friend Brian was intrigued with cryptocurrency and jumped in with me so that we could discuss the different currencies. The day my Ethereum finally arrived on a Thursday 10 August, and I was able to finally do something with it. So of course, the first thing I did was sell it back to USD on Coinbase at $303. This was my first mistake because in order to move the coin around it has to be in cryptocurrency form. So I ended up purchasing BitCoin and moving to the Bittrex exchange. The Bittrex exchange was vastly different then Coinbase. There were a lot of cryptocurrency available to choose from. It also took me an hour of exploring to get familiar with the system. I was ready to jump into the exciting world of trading cryptocurrency. In the first day of trading, I moved into NEO, which they had been talking about on the Bad Crypto podcast. I had a small gain of about 10% in a few hours and jumped back into Ethereum. This was also a mistake, because while I realized a nice small gain, I missed the big upswing where I would have nearly doubled my initial investment. While, I am happy to have a gain, I did not make this mistake later in the week. I gave Brian the tip on NEO as well and he bought and held it, which he has pointed out a number of times. This is the first time we came across the phrase HODL (HAHA). I looked up the original post where someone used the term as explained by Brian. I also have heard the Bad Crypto guys phrase it as "Hold on for dear life", which made me laugh. Since the NEO sale, I have moved in and out of GLM, QTUM, LTC, CRB, STRAT, and ETH. Each time taking a 2% to 15% gain depending. Each time, learning a little more about what to do and not to do. The next big break came when Brian recommended buying GAS. In order to do this, I had to jump into another exchange (Binance). This is where things get complicated, because now I am spread out all over the place. I am waiting on a wallet from Amazon to move some funds into, though I have not amassed much wealth as of yet. Back to GAS, this was by far the biggest win I had to date. I did hold as opposed to immediately selling and was able to realize a 48% gain on the investment. All in all, my first week in crypto has been a good one. I took my first $2000 and turned it into $3600. I am sure that all weeks will not go as well as the first. At the end of my first week, I have spread out as follows: BitCoinCash, Ethereum, NEO GAS, QTUM, BitCoin, and LiteCoin I will try out HODLing this week. |
