| body | Jesus, through his parables, taught the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, for example, in the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:1-9) and the parable of the yeast (Matthew 13:33). With this, the divine teacher made it clear that this government, empire, or domain of the divine perfections is progressivity, growth, and inner transformation, because the spiritual gifts are the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). Living the spiritual gifts received from above, that is what Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount, because that is the blessed life, that is living according to God's plan. And the gifts received must bear fruit of life; that is the meaning of the spiritual life. And it is for all these reasons that the Gospel of Matthew recounts a very special moment in the life of Jesus. After his triumphant entry into Jerusalem, where he drove the merchants from the temple, he went to Bethany, where he spent the night. And upon returning to the city, he came across a fig tree that bore no fruit. And the Gospel of Saint Matthew recounts this event with these words: "Seeing a fig tree by the roadside, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. He told it, 'May fruit never come from you again!' And immediately the fig tree dried up. When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. 'How did the fig tree dry up so quickly?' they asked." Matthew 21:19-20. With this strange story, Jesus taught that everyone must bear fruit before God, as in the parable of the talents, and those who do not bear fruit, like the barren fig tree, must be uprooted from the presence of God and his blessings. The story is most likely a metaphor, but it has very important spiritual implications for Christian spirituality. God does not condemn, but men are free to choose whether or not to make the gifts bear fruit. The Kingdom of Heaven, as presented by Jesus, is a call to change, to the conversion of the heart so that the seed sown in the mind, the word of the Lord, may be transformed into a tree that bears fruit. | body | The Book of Proverbs, attributed to King Solomon, is a sapiential book of the Bible that is divided into two parts; the first part is dedicated to teaching a set of reflections or meditations on wisdom, and the second part consists of the proverbs themselves. And this first part begins as a set of teachings from Solomon to his disciples, whom he addresses as "my children." And so Solomon wrote about the relationship of wisdom with the spiritual gift of fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion), the fruits of divine science, and the importance of knowledge for spiritual guidance. And among his reflections, the wise man wrote the following words: "If you follow my teachings and keep them in mind, you will live. Be wise and learn good sense; remember my teachings and do what I say" Proverbs 4:4-5. With this, Solomon taught that wisdom is a progressive path towards the true spiritual life of man, a path that requires actively retaining what has been learned, and this means a heart surrendered to the fear of God. And with the spiritual gift of fear of God comes something very important, the wise king Solomon taught, and that is common sense, that is, understanding with the heart what fits in decision-making. In other words, teaching the science of wisdom is teaching common sense, and this also has another name: educating. And this is no small matter, because in the modern world with all the technology at our fingertips, the internet, artificial intelligence, and drone warfare, it would seem that common sense is the least abundant thing. And then the wise man added something more of his knowledge to the book: "If you love Wisdom and don't reject her, she will watch over you" Proverbs 4:6. Wisdom is not only life but also a shield and protection against misfortunes and destructive unforeseen events. With this, King Solomon left important words in his book to teach men not happiness but true blessedness, the fullness of spiritual goods in man. In other words, teaching the science of wisdom is teaching common sense, and this also has another name: educating. And this is no small matter, because in the modern world with all the technology at our fingertips, the internet, artificial intelligence, and drone warfare, it would seem that common sense is the least abundant thing.\nAnd then the wise man added something more of his knowledge to the book: \"If you love Wisdom and don't reject her, she will watch over you\" Proverbs 4:6. Wisdom is not only life but also a shield and protection against misfortunes and destructive unforeseen events. With this, King Solomon left important words in his book to teach men not happiness but true blessedness, the fullness of spiritual goods in man.\n\nFor more information, check out my profile, follow the link, and download my ebook.",

| body | The master of wisdom Ben Sira, wrote in his sapiential book on a question already addressed by the philosopher Aristotle in his book Metaphysics, that leadership as such corresponds to the wise man, that is, the doctor of wisdom. And this is so because wisdom, as Saint Thomas also explained, is the most perfect and elevated science of all. Wisdom is the science responsible for directing other sciences towards good and God's plan. For example, through wisdom, the science of medicine fulfills its function of healing, not of serving as a personal business for those who practice medicine. Through wisdom, politics fulfills its function of guiding society toward the common good, and not of becoming a source of profit for politicians. In other words, when men forget the importance of wisdom and wise men as leaders, the society lacks a safety net to prevent its descent into chaos and its own self-destruction. Personal egoisms are extremely destructive, because in that scheme the weakest of society do not matter. This is why the task of the wise person in society is fundamental to its existence and development. And so the wise Ben Sira began in his book to explain how a society is built through the efforts of artisans, builders, and farmers, because without them, the most basic tasks of a society would not exist. But then Ben Sira explained that there are tasks that are not for ordinary people, and he explained this fact in this way: "But they are not sought out for the council of the people, nor are they prominent in the assembly. They do not sit on the judge's bench, nor can they understand law and justice. They cannot expound discipline or judgment, nor are they found among the rulers" Ben Sira 38:32-33. And these tasks described by the master Ben Sira are the tasks that belong exclusively to the wise. An example of this in the Bible was King Solomon, who, through the wisdom that God granted him in Gibeon, exercised spiritual leadership throughout Israel, administering justice, educating his people, and making every citizen of his kingdom prosper. Ultimately, wisdom, the science of upright men, is the science that orders and gives direction to a society. For more information, check out my profile, follow the link, and download my ebook. |

| body | The life of King David is a clear example in the Bible of when power and the spiritual government are united in one person. Although David did not receive the wisdom of his son Solomon, who had the task of building the first temple in Jerusalem, his actions as a guided, enlightened, and inspired person are very clear in the Bible. It could be stated without great error that David was a personification of the Kingdom of God, the dominion or empire of the divine perfections, in the Old Testament. In other words, David personified the government of God among the Israelites. The First Book of Chronicles relates that David, after the death of King Saul, was proclaimed king in Hebron, and thus David began great feats as a ruler, as he had done when he defeated Goliath, the Philistine. After his coronation, David conquered the city of Jerusalem, moved the ark of the covenant to that city, and, guided by God, secured the borders of his kingdom by defeating the Philistines, who saw David as a threat. The Book of Chronicles also recounts a special event in the reign of this great king, who personified a spiritual government in Israel, the covenant between God and David through the prophet Nathan. This pact has had a profound influence on the Christian faith; God's promise to elevate one of his descendants to royalty after his death is interpreted as the promise of a messiah, personified centuries later in Jesus, the "Son of Man". And the Bible summarizes David's reign in a very simple way: "So David reigned over all Israel and did what was just and right for all his people" 1 Chronicles 18:14. David was truly a spiritual person, and so he ruled, fulfilling the will of God. And David did all this for a very simple reason: David feared God above all things. Despite some personal failings, in a world given over to greed and the selfish desire for happiness, David was a faithful follower of the law of Moses, achieving success in all his projects. David achieved glory and was blessed by God, inspiring thousands of Bible readers more than three thousand years after his life. | body | Psalm 119 in the Bible is a psalm dedicated to the study and praise of the law of Moses, and among the most important spiritual things, the hymn shows the direct relationship between the wisdom from above and the fulfillment of the commandments given by Moses. And this is because for those who love riches and power and despise the fear of God and wisdom, the law is simply an obstacle to be overcome. Psalm 1, the Psalm of the two paths, teaches an inescapable spiritual truth: there are two paths opposite each other, and two rewards. And so the Psalm teaches the opposition between devotion to the law and selfishness: "Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain" Psalm 119:36. And the Psalm has something very special: it teaches that the law has its complexities. To think that the law of Moses is reduced to the strict fulfillment of a series of imperatives and commands is a mistake. A deeper comprehension of the law of Moses is necessary to understand the covenant between God and Israel. For example, when David, hungry after arriving in Nob, took the consecrated loaves that Ahimelek had in the temple, an event that is recounted in 1 Samuel 21. It was not for David to take them, but he was in a situation of need. The question that arises is, did David do the right thing or not? The first and second commandments of the Law of Moses refer to the spiritual gift of fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion); these two commandments mean in practical terms that only God should be feared, and not men. And when men experience this grace of God, that is when wisdom and common sense appear to comply with the law correctly; that is why the Psalm also adds: "I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes" Psalm 119:99. When David took the loaves, he did the correct action because he submitted the Law of Moses to the gift of fear of God. David acted wisely and was blessed. The law is a manifestation of God's eternal wisdom, but it appears only when there are hearts willing to accept the law, the Psalm teaches; understanding this truth is understanding the foundations of the law and of the Psalm itself. | body | The Book of Psalms teaches that God is wise and all-powerful, and that in contrast to this are the freedom and imperfections of men; that is why the sapiential Book begins with the Psalm of the Two Paths, the Almighty rewards the sensible men and punishes fools. The divine providence and the entire historical development of the Bible turn around this spiritual problem. And Psalm 103, which is partly a song of praise and partly a didactic hymn, reminds the Bible readers of this great spiritual contrast: God is merciful, loving, always ready to forgive, but men with their weaknesses repeatedly fall into error again and again. This is why the Psalm begins with these words: "Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion" Psalm 103:2-4. Praising God for his wonders is one of the most excellent things, but it is also important to remember that the Lord does not forget his people and those who fear him with all their heart; that is why the hymn wisely reminds to the devotees of the Bible: "The LORD works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed" Psalm 103:6. This phrase from the Psalm is a reminder of the salvation accomplished by the prophet Moses. The Hebrews lived oppressed in Egypt, and through God's righteousness and Moses' courage, the chosen people began their journey to the promised land. But it is also a reminder of the work done by the judges, Israel's first aristocracy. When the Israelites forgot their God, then oppression arose from their enemies, and so the Israelites cried out for God's help, and he, in his love and mercy, sent judges who saved them; judges like Samson and Samuel were a great example of this. Psalm 103 is a reminder of God's glory and how the Lord, with gifts like mercy and love, redeems and saves humanity, especially the humble and oppressed. Knowing and singing Psalm 103 is a way to recognize the love of God and how, through the fear of God, men can be blessed. | body | Psalm 15 is a didactic psalm attributed to King David whose intention is to teach the conditions for drawing closer to God. This is why the Psalm begins with these words: "Who may dwell in your sacred tent? Who may live on your holy mountain?" Psalm 15:1. The hymn then begins by expressing who is worthy to be in the presence of God and to see, or rather to perceive with the intellect, the face of God. The Bible says that a few people achieved this, such as the prophet Moses and King David. The sacred tent in the time of Moses was where the ark of the covenant was kept, and where God was supposed to manifest his presence to Israel; that place was clearly the most sacred place of the chosen people in ancient times. And the sacred mountain was where Moses received the law from God on his journey to the promised land. And in this way, Psalm 15 continues to describe the life in God's grace with simple words: "The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart, whose tongue utters no slander, who does no wrong to a neighbor, and casts no slur on others. Psalm 15:2-3. Psalm 15 is a psalm focused on teaching the sensible life, full of wisdom, which makes men brothers among themselves and worthy children of their creator, because God does not coexist with error, that is, a life full of sins. Because the righteous life, the life full of fear of God, has a meaning, and that meaning is to live in harmony with the ethical laws of the universe created by God from the beginning of time. The Psalm then points out the moral and ethical conditions required by God to live in his presence. Because men have to choose between following the path of Abel, which pleased God, and the path of Cain, which God considered an abomination. There is no middle ground. The creator of all things is a wise God who judges hearts and does not take into account masks such as offerings made solely to please the religion. Psalm 15 is a call to guard our hearts, our words, and our actions because it is from these things that we find what is edifying or destructive in man. | body | After announcing God's plan with the Sermon on the Mount and his beatitudes, Jesus healed the servant of a Roman Centurion and resurrected a girl. In this way, the message of Jesus began to reveal itself progressively to the recipients of his message. And the Gospel of Matthew teaches that after all these signs and teachings, Jesus gathered all his disciples and gave them power to heal diseases and instructed them on how to preach the Kingdom of God to the children of Israel according to the flesh. And during his discourse, Jesus revealed to them a very important requirement concerning this new spiritual kingdom, and said: "Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me" Matthew 10:37. And this expression of Jesus has a very special meaning. This teaching connects with Jesus' parables; the Kingdom of God is that hidden treasure (Matthew 13:44) and pearl of great price (Matthew 13:45-46). This dominion or empire announced by Jesus is the most valuable thing a Christian or follower of Jesus can possess. In other words, a Christian must love Jesus above all things, and not act like the rich young man who asked the divine teacher how to inherit the spiritual gift of eternal life and could not follow Jesus because he loved riches. This demand of Jesus to his disciples is one spiritual expression of the commandment of love: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" Matthew 22:37. The love demanded by Jesus ultimately consists of a total surrender to the grace of God and his eternal providence. If a Christian does not love Jesus more than anything in the world, he cannot be born again; that is, he cannot be born in the spirit and become a new creature made in the image and likeness of God in essence. In other words, what Jesus said was that loving him more than anything in the world is to know the true face of God, which is revealed in the Son. | body | The Bible, as a sacred book, teaches in its texts the direct relationship between wisdom and prosperity. It is true that fools and ignorant people can often prosper due to particular favorable conditions, but when prosperity is not accompanied by the wisdom of God, that prosperity is ephemeral and temporary. Many empires, according to the Bible, prospered as long as their military power lasted and they were able to instill fear in their enemies. The Babylonian and Assyrian empires were a few examples of this fact, and just as they appeared, they disappeared in the same way. And this is an inexorable truth due to the existence of the ethical laws of the universe. Wisdom, as a science applied to daily life, allows people to live in harmony with the ethical laws of the universe, because the science of God is precision and accuracy, and therefore happiness, peace, and prosperity are rewards of these eternal laws. Prosperity, in its true sense, is not an end in itself but a reward for human excellence. Understanding this is understanding spirituality in its true sense. It is for all these reasons that wisdom is so necessary for men, and those who ignore this fact are condemned to poverty. Faith, motivational processes as coaching, or good intentions are useless if men don't know how to make the right decisions. And the Second Book of Chronicles recounts a clear example of how wisdom, power, and prosperity can harmoniously unite when wise men, as in this case King Solomon, rule in the name of the highest and most divine with these words: "He ruled over all the kings from the Euphrates River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar as plentiful as sycamore-fig trees in the foothills" 2 Chronicles 9:26-27. Solomon not only prospered and achieved great happiness, but he also passed on all these blessings to his people because wisdom is expansive, progressive, and gradual. A wise ruler ultimately inspires his people, and by enforcing equality before the law, he educates them and guides them along God's path. | body | The Bible, with its wisdom, offers beautiful advice for living, and the Book of Proverbs within the sapiential literature is a great example of this. The Book of Proverbs begins by explaining who the author of such an important book is: "The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel" Proverbs 1:1. Solomon was the wisest man of his time, and with his great experience and knowledge of the ancient traditions of the East, he wrote a book whose maxims continue to inspire people today. And among his thoughts and reflections, the wise man wrote a beautiful quote for spiritual meditation: "Careless words stab like a sword, but the words of wise people bring healing" Proverbs 12:18. This phrase is an important reminder that with the wisdom of the heart, there is life, benevolence, and peace. Because true spirituality lies in the knowledge of wisdom and its application to daily life, not in the spirituality of masks and appearances. Prayers, liturgies, or any other religious expression are useless if men forget that the origin of all that is divine lies in that eternal wisdom that orders everything. Ultimately, the truth lies in the words of the wise, though it may not always be agreeable. But those who reject the truth sooner or later fall into their own trap. The words of the wise also heal; this is one of the reflections Solomon wanted to convey in his book. An example of this was King Solomon's decision when two prostitutes disputed custody of a child. The women's testimonies contradicted each other, but Solomon, inspired by God, found the true mother and thus saved the child's life. Solomon's wisdom was the prelude to that Kingdom which Jesus later announced. On the other hand, Solomon's maxim reminds us that we must always be alert to the words of fools because their words lack empathy, and their end is nothing other than destruction; that is why the wise man compared the words of fools to the wound of a sword. Knowing who to listen to and who not to listen to, this is true wisdom, Solomon reflected, because the path of the wise leads to life, but the path of fools leads to chaos. | body | With the prophet Malachi, the golden age of the prophets in the Bible comes to a close. This prophet most likely wrote his book during the time of Ezra and Nehemiah. The Achaemenid Persian dynasty ruled Asia, and with the benevolence of this empire, the Jews were able to begin the reconstruction of their holy city. Like every prophet, Malachi insisted on the importance of the law of Moses and its relationship with that eternal wisdom of God, because without these spiritual goods, the nation of Israel could not prosper, but would sink into its own errors. Among other things, the prophet denounced the priestly class for showing favoritism, to gave in to greed, and for having forgotten the true meaning of the law given by God to the Israelites through the prophet Moses. For Malachi, the true spiritual meaning of the law was to instruct the Israelites in that wisdom which is life, path, and peace; that is why Malachi recalled the covenant with Levi with these words: "The purpose of my covenant with the Levites was to bring life and peace, and that is what I gave them" Malachi 2:5. But after stating this in his book Malachi, he continued his warning, explaining that when the priestly class fails, all of society fails, because there is a truth that cannot be denied, and the prophet explained this spiritual truth with these wise words: "For the lips of a priest ought to preserve knowledge, because he is the messenger of the LORD Almighty and people seek instruction from his mouth" Malachi 2:7. With this, the prophet taught that the education of man and spirituality are one and the same, because ultimately, to educate is to instruct hearts in the spiritual gift of fear of God. It is true that the fear of God is a grace from on high. This gift is that spiritual seed that the Lord puts in men, but fear at some point is also science, and the demonstration of this is the entire Bible. And it is the priestly class who is responsible for showing how this fear, together with wisdom, blesses and bears fruitful bringing life and peace to men and society. The warnings of the prophet, more than two thousand years later, should serve as a warning for many spiritual problems in the modern world. | body | The apostle Paul wrote the First Epistle to the Corinthians to reinforce many teachings of the faith that he imparted during his second missionary journey when he visited this Greek city, in which he stayed with the assistance of the Holy Spirit for more than a year. During his third missionary journey, he was informed of what was happening in the Church of Corinth. Although the Church in this city had remained strong and was growing, new teachers had arrived, and with them the formation of rival factions within the Christian community. Paul, alerted to this situation and probably in Ephesus, a city where he stayed for at least two years, decided to write his famous epistle. And in this important epistle, Paul wrote about several fundamental themes, the wisdom of God vs human wisdom, Christian maturity, and some advice on various topics, such as marital duties and mixed marriages with pagans. In this epistle, Paul wrote about the difference between natural men and spiritual men, with the purpose of explaining where spiritual change should be directed in order to achieve likeness to Jesus. Basically, in the Christian doctrine, the spiritual man represents Christian maturity, the whole or adult man as such. This is why Paul affirmed in his epistle: "Spiritual people evaluate everything but are subject to no one's evaluation" 1 Corinthians 2:15. If the above is understood, then the other type of man, the man tied to the material, can be understood. In the Christian faith, the carnal man represents the immature man, the eternal adolescent, that child who does not want to grow up and become a whole person. According to Paul, true spirituality is about abandoning the carnal man in order to seek the spiritual man through faith; achieving this change is what it means to find that hidden treasure that Jesus spoke of. This is why Paul warned the members of the Corinthian church that the divisions that had formed in the church were proof that they were not yet mature Christians, and he explained it this way: "You are jealous and argue with each other. This proves you are not spiritual and you are acting like the people of this world" 1 Corinthians 3:3. Seeking union with the Holy Spirit, tolerating imperfections in others, and being gentle—this is what maturity in faith consists of, as Paul, insistently taught in his epistle. | body | The Old Testament in the Book of Nehemiah tells how the city of Jerusalem rose from its destruction during the rule of the Achaemenid Persian dynasty that dominated the entire Middle East. King Cyrus, after the conquest of Babylon, freed the Jews from their captivity, and the return of the exiles began, but this was not enough; the needs were many, and corruption was a common thing in what was the Persian province of Judea. And it is in this context that Nehemiah appears, a God-fearing man, who made the firm decision to help his people, Israel. Nehemiah served King Artaxerxes, and because he had gained his trust and friendship, he managed to be sent to Jerusalem to rebuild the city with the authorization of the great king. The Book of Nehemiah relates that this royal official, with the help of the priest and scribe Ezra, managed after many difficulties to rebuild the city of Jerusalem. Nehemiah ruled wisely, like the ancient kings of Israel who were devoted to God, such as Josiah and David, helping the most needy and strengthening the priesthood. And a very important moment in Nehemiah's actions was when a liturgy was celebrated, and the people of Israel in assembly together with the priest Ezra worshipped God, and these words were spoken: "But you are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love" Nehemiah 9:17. These words are a reminder that in the face of man's imperfection, which inclines men to practice error, there is the perfection of God, the source of all good, wisdom, and mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness). And this difference between God and man is the origin of spirituality. As Ezra taught with great wisdom in his liturgy, drawing near to God means drawing near to that progressive, expansive love that disregards past wrongs and is always ready to forgive. For God loves, but He also demands that men allow themselves to be loved. The entire history of the people of Israel was based on this spiritual truth, as Ezra himself recounted in his liturgy, and that Nehemiah also taught through the example of his great actions. | body | In the Bible, it is usual that after an extraordinary event, a hymn or a song to celebrate it takes place. This is why, in the Gospel of Luke, after the angel Gabriel announces the conception and birth of Jesus to Mary, a song called the Magnificat, or Song of Mary, is sung. This song bears a strong resemblance to Hannah's Song (1 Samuel 2:1-10), a song attributed to the mother of the prophet Samuel in gratitude to God for the conception and birth of the miraculous child. With this extraordinary event, related in the gospel of Luke, the covenant made between God and David (2 Samuel 7) was fulfilled in Mary, as the angel promised the birth of a savior for Israel. Mary is considered a God-fearing woman in the gospels, and in this song, the glory, wisdom, and mercy of God over all things are expressed. In this song, Maria begins by expressing her happiness and joy for the grace received: "My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed" Luke 1:46-48. Then the song continues, expressing how God provides for the needy and how the children of Israel are always before His eyes; and how God in His wisdom accomplishes great things and rejects the proud of heart, that is why the song also expresses: "He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts" Luke 1:51. This song of Mary is a song that essentially expresses something that in Christianity is known as poverty of spirit. As Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount with the Beatitudes, Mary is poor in spirit in the sense that she considered herself a humble servant of the Lord, and did not pretend, as Job in the Old Testament did, to set herself up as judge of the Lord for the event that occurred. In this sense, Mary, the mother of the Lord, with her singing, is an example to follow for all who want to enter the Kingdom of God, the empire or government of the divine perfections. | body | After teaching the Beatitudes, the Gospel of Luke recounts that Jesus entered in the town of Capernaum, and there a special miracle occurred that the divine master highlighted as an example of faith and fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion). The Gospel of Luke relates that in this town there was a Roman centurion, and that he had a servant who was very sick and whom he greatly appreciated. And when the centurion heard that Jesus had come to the town, he sent for him, because he knew that Jesus performed miracles and was a person of great wisdom. The Gospel of Luke recounts that the people the centurion sent were elders, but it is more likely that the Gospel meant they were the wisest people in the village, and so when they approached Jesus, they said: "This man deserves to have you do this, because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue" Luke 7:4. So Jesus decided to meet and get to know this renowned centurion, and when he was near his house, he was approached by some friends of the centurion who sent them to say the following words to Jesus: "Lord, don't trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed" Luke 7:6-7. Jesus, amazed by this man's faith, held him up as an example to follow, and thus the divine teacher exclaimed: "I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel" Luke 7:9. With this answer, Jesus was anticipating that the pagans would be the final recipients of his spiritual message and not the children of Israel according to the flesh. In a certain sense, Jesus put the centurion as a clear example of what a son of Israel according to the spirit should be, that is, a devotee of the Kingdom of God, the empire or domain of divine perfections. The promise of eternal life ultimately belongs to those who are like this Roman centurion, and this is what Jesus wanted to teach with this example. The story of this Roman centurion with Jesus ends by saying that when the Roman official's friends arrived at the house where the servant was, he was already healed.
