The overall goal for everyone in this market should be to accumulate as much of it as they possibly can. There will only ever be 21 million Bitcoin created and there is a shockingly small amount of it still available on the market. This is the philosophy I have when it comes to building my portfolio, but it doesn’t mean that I only hold Bitcoin. I also own Ethereum and a few other altcoins. These altcoins are my long-term strategy tools in order to accumulate more BTC and ETH.\n\nWhen it comes to making money in the short term in cryptocurrency, you’re greatest advantage is having extreme flexibility, an open mind, and willing to change your strategy in an instant. If you paid attention close attention to the crypto market over the last few years, you will have noticed 4 main trends that you could have capitalized on.\n\n#### **DeFi Summer**\n\n![ \"a444e63076ddc6e5440bbba04f1b637cefa01eba224d3c2d6aedbc91bd4053f0.png\"](https://cdn.publish0x.com/prod/fs/cachedimages/819342888-a444e63076ddc6e5440bbba04f1b637cefa01eba224d3c2d6aedbc91bd4053f0.png)\n\nAfter the shock of the covid price drop in March 2020, the market began to recover. The Bitcoin halving that took place soon after compounded that recovery. But then a few months went by with sideways price action. That is when DeFi summer took place.\n\nAny crypto that was related to DeFi on Ethereum went up parabolically. Coins soared hundreds and thousands of percent in days. This was also the period that cemented Uniswap’s popularity. Before this period, most in the industry had no idea what DeFi was. If it was just the latest hype bubble, or if it would be around for the long term. However, those who paid attention to the market and acted promptly were rewarded handsomely.\n\n#### **Meme Coins**\n\n![ \"d8186ed637a7d50deca9649a2a64f5567781cd42018e86c6d83d8b84a2dd69da.png\"](https://cdn.publish0x.com/prod/fs/cachedimages/915271585-d8186ed637a7d50deca9649a2a64f5567781cd42018e86c6d83d8b84a2dd69da.png)\n\nDeFi summer soon cooled down largely due to the expensive Ethereum gas fees, but a few months later the next hype cycle began; Meme coins. Led by Dogecoin, food coins, Shiba Inu, and then several other copies. We all knew that these tokens didn’t have any real value and were incredibly risky. It was like playing with fire.\n\nBut there is no denying that there was money to be made. Before the hype movement began, Dogecoin was only worth a small percentage of a cent. But with the hype caused by Elon Musk’s enthusiasm for the project, its price would rise to over $0.70. \n\nSometimes people overthink the crypto market too much. Thinking about use cases, real value, and so on. But they ignore the momentum of the market, and forget that anything can pump no matter how silly it is. That is the cryptocurrency market.\n\n#### **Alternative Layer 1s**\n\n![ \"fba3d79d1644c57ac83be1409e3e881bc49394c6daf5f3cfecc9bf2828d92b72.png\"](https://cdn.publish0x.com/prod/fs/cachedimages/319167353-fba3d79d1644c57ac83be1409e3e881bc49394c6daf5f3cfecc9bf2828d92b72.png)\n\nThe last cycle will forever be known as the cycle led by VCs, and insolvencies. There is no better example of that than alternative Layer 1 blockchains causing the next hype phase. Solana, Luna, Avalanche, and several others were the talk of the market. They were labeled the Ethereum killers, that would finally overtake it.\n\nToday we recognize that this was VCs trying to shill their investments. But projects like Solana went from being valued at $2.00, all the way up to $250. If you were paying attention to the trends, and were able to adjust. Large amounts of money could have been made.\n\n#### **NFTs**\n\n![ \"dcf70de116c03fddc37e5f1d4ed1e38ccbec2e214f9c2cedd34e9a229e0a5538.jpg\"](https://cdn.publish0x.com/prod/fs/cachedimages/395050411-dcf70de116c03fddc37e5f1d4ed1e38ccbec2e214f9c2cedd34e9a229e0a5538.jpg)\n\nThe next hype cycle was caused by NFTs. Crypto Punks and Bored Apes were being sold for millions of dollars. Movie rights were being sold, and NFT restaurants were being made. This was touted as the crypto movement that would finally take this industry mainstream.\n\nAnd for a while, it did. \n\nWe saw some of the biggest celebrities sporting their NFTs as their profile pictures on Twitter. Companies such as Starbucks, Nike, and even Disney began entering the NFT space. Those who had an open mind and recognized the potential that NFTs presented were once again able to make a lot of money in this market. \n\n#### **Airdrops**\n\n![ \"08e6ad874fa0c908227dde25cf18c6b7f69cb09d08113249ca1461e16da9d582.jpg\"](https://cdn.publish0x.com/prod/fs/cachedimages/3352299919-08e6ad874fa0c908227dde25cf18c6b7f69cb09d08113249ca1461e16da9d582.jpg)\n\nThe most recent trend has been crypto airdrops. Receiving free crypto for participating or testing a network, performing tasks, connecting wallets to a DEX, or being active on their social channels. Kicked off by Uniswap, the airdrop craze has surged in popularity even more after the recent Optimism, Aptos, and Aribitrum airdrops. There are still potential opportunities on the horizon with zkSync.\n\nIf you recognized the momentum that airdrops were having, and began to hunt them. You could have earned tens of thousands of dollars. As always, seeing an opportunity and quickly reacting to it is vital in this market.\n\n### **In the Future**\n\n#### **Layer 2s**\n\n![ \"0f73e11e1f9979f9afdf0ab46dcba663f06439bf8b05421d5df4e4d9013fa93d.png\"](https://cdn.publish0x.com/prod/fs/cachedimages/2090803606-0f73e11e1f9979f9afdf0ab46dcba663f06439bf8b05421d5df4e4d9013fa93d.png)\n\nAs we move into the future, we should always be looking ahead to our next great opportunity. One of those possible opportunities could be Layer 2s on Ethereum. Projects built on Arbitrum, Optimism, and zkSync could cause a similar hype cycle reminiscent of what we saw during DeFi summer. You may never have another chance in your lifetime to early to a market like this.\n\nThe exciting thing about the cryptocurrency market is that it is incredibly ripe with opportunities to make money. Even the most conservative projects such as Bitcoin have a chance to rise in price by 10x, and even more in the future. Once you go further down the list of coins with higher risk, the potential returns are significantly higher. You won’t be finding gains like this in any other market.\n\nBeyond traditional buying, there is free money to be had in this market. But, it will take a significant amount of your time. Crypto airdrops reward early users who test blockchains and protocols with free tokens. In many cases, these free airdrops result in users receiving several thousand dollars worth of crypto. An amount that not only would be enough to jumpstart your crypto portfolio but could be life-changing for many. Seemingly every week, there is a new airdrop giveaway that is announced. Where things become really interesting is when you begin becoming eligible for many of these airdrops.\n\nThere is many to be made, you just have to ask yourself how much you want it. During the next two years, crypto will change people’s financial lives forever. The acceptance of the Bitcoin ETF has changed the game and could be a catalyst that causes prices to go up much higher than any of us imagined possible.\n\nWhat this all means is that your time to accumulate crypto before this market completely rockets upward is running out. I have also been sacrificing nearly all of my free time. Sacrificing today for tomorrow. Every day I have been airdrop farming with the sole purpose of “making it” this cycle. Crypto is a financial market where everyone is trying to make as much money as possible. There is danger lurking all around you, especially when it comes to YouTube and X.\n\nThe truth is that these people have their own ulterior motives. Both of these platforms allow content creators to monetize their content. It could be by views, sponsorships, or being paid to shill new crypto coins to viewers. During the last cycle, there were an endless amount of influencers who were given a large amount of a low-cap altcoin to shill. And you are also to distinguish who is just a salesman and using you to make money. Newcomers to this market don't have this skill, and consider people on YouTube or Twitter experts. Believing they truly care about you and want you to become rich. They couldn't be more wrong.\n\nThe moral of the story in crypto is that you shouldn't trust anyone. Not the people you see on YouTube, Twitter, TikTok, or even crypto-related articles like mine. Your first cycle of investing in crypto needs to be dedicated to learning as much as you can.\n\nThe famous phrase that knowledge is power directly applies to this industry. Once you have the knowledge to invest in the high-quality projects that will be around for the long term. That is when you are ready to become successful in this market.
