The army has announced that it will hand over power to the winning party through new elections once the state of emergency ends. Internet and telephone services have been shut down in several cities across the country, including the country's capital, Nay Pyi Taw. The army is patrolling the streets of the country's main cities. No news of Myanmar is coming out due to mechanical problems.\nSome journalists have gone into hiding, fearing that the news could be detrimental to them. Flights to Myanmar have been suspended and the main international airport in the country's largest city, Yangon, has been closed.\nTensions have been running high between the country's government and army for the past few months.
