| body | [](https://postimg.cc/mzjmrFBN) ### Cooperative Independence During our weekly consensus ranking meeting, @markstair asked @dan what is the one moral concept that the fractally community can rally around? The idea of having 'one moral concept' that network communities align themselves with is from the book [Network State](https://thenetworkstate.com/) by Balaji Srinivasan. @dan eventually ended his longer reply with the idea of: 'cooperative independence.' The idea of 'cooperative independence' may seem contradictory, but does capture the essence of what we need to advocate for to bring people from the left & right & all ideologies together. From a conservative/classical liberal/libertarian/anarchist perspective many would prefer to be independent, self-sufficient and left alone. However, when living in society it is extremely difficult for anyone to just be left alone unless those in the community and society agree to leave you alone. Getting taxed is not the idea of being left alone. City/state/federal statutes won't allow you to just be left alone. Hence the one major compromise for those who want to just be left alone is to be proactive in cooperation and build consensus precisely so they can be left alone as much as possible. On the other hand, those who have a collectivist/socialist/communist/modern liberal mindset may not value independence as much, but are more receptive to group cooperation and consensus building. The supermajority of people generally recognize the value of both cooperation and independence despite not having any strong ideologies or conditioning one way or the other. Hence, consensus building around the idea of 'cooperative independence' seems like the enlightened middle-path to bring everyone together and make progress. During this week's (9/3/22) consensus meeting @dan also discussed the importance of working with lawyers to create a system that is resilient to the inevitabilities of lawsuits within the community as well as externally from regulators. Fractally should be presented to the public in a way that is based on the most favorable legal theories to minimize potential legal disputes in nation-state legal jurisdictions. I asked @dan about the idea of private clubs and organizations because I am personally exploring legal theories around private vs public orgs for my startup. During the COVID lockdowns, I was intrigued by the story of a business that [got around mask restrictions after turning its cafe into a private club.](https://fox4kc.com/news/not-open-to-public-raes-cafe-now-a-private-club-to-avoid-mask-mandate-shutdown/) @dan mentioned that any blockchain network organization will likely be considered either a general partnership or a non-profit association. Our consensus meeting was efficient this week so there was not much to report, but it's always great to have discussions and learn more about what others are working on. In the pre-meeting there was some discussion around the idea of 'double-dipping' from fractally employees who often get the most respect in the meetings. I've briefly thought about how to value fractally team contributions, but it is an important to keep the discussion going. @dan had a good response and mentioned there are various subjective ways to evaluate fractally team employee contributions and that perhaps some of the respect they earn should eventually go to the investors who funded their fractally work. Another question I have is about the transferability of Respect tokens. From the fractally whitepaper, tokens are liquid and you can buy/sell/transfer Respect tokens, but how will people view Respect earned vs Respect bought? Should there be some element of soul-bound tokens with Respect? ### The Why... In last week's pre-meeting (8/27/22) @dan asked everyone to think about why we are here and that fractally governance is a way to fight against tyranny. He wanted everyone to recognize the value of consensus building and independence and that 1+1 can equal 3 when working together. Fractally is a path for a peaceful revolution. A narrower vision is that it's a smart contract platform to build businesses and form an economy. We are not doing governance for governance's sake. We have to find out how this benefits the group because we are all sacrificing time for a cause and should expect a return. Felix wanted to apply fractally to creating self-sufficient communities, food production and the essentials for life. That sounds great. Someone mentioned it was hard to explain these concepts to anarchists and libertarians. It's likely that we have to bring the independent ones to focus on the importance of cooperation. Eric made a good point about meeting people where they are and from their perspectives and with their existing groups. @dan made a point that we should have fun in the process. Perhaps we should have other consensus activities to build things together and that might get people engaged. Perhaps we can build consensus around controversial topics like vaccines & mandates and try to 1) build consensus on the truth of the topic 2) build an educational resource based on everyone's consensus and 3) create local policy proposals. Right now it seems building consensus around ideas is easier than trying to build consensus around building roads. ### Cultural Differences Using fractally @shakruz mentioned in our contribution ranking meeting that his Russian speaking fractal is described as 'small group communication' in the Russian language. He also mentioned many Russians want privacy and won’t use cameras fearing they could be threatened by police for crypto. One person who attended a meeting previously lost 2000 BTC being raided by police and had to have plastic surgery to hide himself. @fractallymike also mentioned that he found that in some of the spanish-speaking cultures many people just deferred to authority so it may be more challenging to conduct fractal meetings in those cultures. That's all I got for the last couple weeks... see you guys next time. |

The federation of states in the US was designed to be independent. To be independent, people must be self-sufficient or have many independent trading partners. The dilemma of buying at lower cost from Walmart instead of locally is that a community can lose independence. ### Independent Money “Maintaining control over community money is the single biggest thing a community needs to do to maintain independence.” Cryptocurrencies enable communities to control their own money, but still will rely on others for computer hardware. Gold, silver and platinum may be practical alternatives. ### The Cost of Independence The Amish is an example of self-sufficiency. More specialization can mean more dependence. It’s just as important for communities to be independent as it is for individuals. ### Interdependence Interdependence where neither party has advantage is not ideal because either party can become more independent. Companies often offer ‘free’ services early to get users to be dependent in the future. ### Antifragility and Independence Nassim Taleb has written about the idea of antifragility. Chaotic randomness can break fragile systems that depend on stability and antifragile systems grow stronger with stress. Hence, introducing regular disturbances and randomness such as random tariffs can be beneficial for individuals, communities and countries to build resilience. ### Secession “Independence is a necessary precondition for secession, and the ability to secede is necessary to secure independence. “”Failure to plan for secession is planning to fail.” ### Ism Schism The author most closely aligns with ‘voluntarism’, opposes ‘universalism: the belief that everyone must be governed by the same principles.’ The author describes his personal definitions of the ‘isms’ as follows: ### Anarchism Anarchism is the idea ‘we should live by rules and not rulers’, but another view is that Anarchism is based on the “law of the jungle, where might makes right.” ### Marxism/Communism “Marx provides a list of essential tenets of communism, namely: • Central Banking • Government-controlled education • Government-controlled labor • Government ownership of transportation • Government ownership of communication • Government ownership of agriculture and industry • Elimination of private property • Heavy income tax on everyone • Elimination of inheritance • Regional planning” Both US political parties and the world seem to support much of communism in principle. “Therefore, communism can best be described by the intended outcome from the exercise of total control over everything. This outcome is an “equality in standard of living” for most people.” The dangers of ‘equality’ are described in Orwell’s book Animal Farm. Communism has the greatest wealth disparity between the ruling class and the people. Socialism less so and capitalism the least. ### Socialism “Socialism is commonly viewed as communism-lite“ and the “ “sharing the burden of life” through various “social” programs and safety nets.” ### Capitalism "The common definition of capitalism is an economic or political system where industry is controlled by private owners instead of the state." "Under capitalism, ownership is enforced by informal agreement with possession defended by jungle strength." ### Libertarianism “Libertarianism to describe the system of voluntary trade” , ‘defines property rights in advance’, use contracts and “follow the non-aggression principle” ### Democratism “Democracy is government derived from the ongoing consent of people as demonstrated by the right of secession.” “True democracy is about coordinating with other people while maintaining personal autonomy and power” |

A political playoff between small groups of 10 in each of 3141 US counties of around 50k people can determine leaders in just 2-3 rounds. Each county should maintain the right to secede. ### Recalling Positions Each representative could be recalled with a new consensus to remove bad actors or if the representative dies. ### The Evolution of the United States The US had a similar structure whereby the states selected Federal senators until the 17th amendment made the process a direct vote. Furthermore, Congressmen represented around 50k people before instead of the 650k+ today. ### Low Tech Political Playoff Process ‘Any democratic process should be simple enough that any community can implement it without relying upon high-tech solutions.’ ### Communities with Less than 200 People Set up 13 tables of 4 and select a representative for each table. Out of the top 13 you can either find consensus (9/13) or create another round to determine the top 3 and randomly select one of the reps. ### Community of 1000 People Get 100 groups of 10 and select representatives who reach 7/10 consensus. ### Community of 10,000+ People Create 10 precincts of 1000 and use the same process as 1000 people and then select the consensus leader of the precincts. ### Community of 100,000+ People Do the same with 100 precincts. It’s impossible to have people vote multiple times or dead people to vote because everyone participates in person. ### High Tech Political Playoff These methods can also be done using video and blockchain technology. ### Consensus Takes Time ‘Consensus takes time and shouldn’t change frequently, especially for larger societies where changes impact more people.’ Laws should not change so rapidly so allowing the next congress to ratify laws after each 4 year cycle can achieve a proper check and balance. ### Harnessing Pareto Power The Pareto principle applies to Bitcoin and proof-of-work (POW) systems and selects those with technical skills and the cheapest electricity. Proof-of-stake (POS) systems selects the wealthy and the exchanges. A political playoffs could select those with more virtuous traits. ‘It may actually make sense to use games like chess, go, poker, spelling bees, Starcraft, or Battle- 76 Political Playoffs Bots.’ ### Technocracy ‘Many people advocate that we should let scientists and other “experts” tell us how to organize society.’ This system can still be corrupted because there are political motivations behind modern ‘science’, academics ‘will represent a hidden power structure‘, and specialists lack interdisciplinary knowledge. ### Political Playoff Summary Selecting leaders using a political playoffs of virtuous traits can lead to a true democracy without political parties, without campaigning, that is immune to rational ignorance and leverages the wisdom of crowds. |

Added value reflections 1) evolving context into our individual purpose, skills and talents. I feeling synthesizing Human Design energy type model, with all of its strong features rooted in collaborative labor, and Fractally. Imagine AI adding entropy in the random selection process and also including unique identifiers and accompanying systems like Human Design to assist us in forming the most valuable and impactful collaborations. Thinking of what Fractally could do for growing our use of the HD system. MANIFESTOR THE FIRE STARTER - natural leaders and influencers Manifestors include 9% of the population and are known to be the world's trailblazers. Manifestors are happiest when they are on their own, solving problems and making a difference; however, they thrive from the energy of other types and find balance from their support. Their energy is the strongest of all types, which means that Manifestors often speak things into existence - hence the name. To find alignment, Manifestors must use their strategy of informing before acting — telling others before acting gives advance to those around them to charge full force ahead without any obstacles or stepping on toes. Don't mistake their need to inform with asking for permission, though. Manifestors often are determined in their endeavors and move forward without question. Anger is a sign that a Manifestor is not living in their true identity. Once they learn to communicate effectively and start to inform themselves and others of their intentions, they can feel peace and move forward in true alignment. Communication will help alleviate the feelings of control and allow the Manifestor to experience their signature: genuine peace. MANIFESTING GENERATOR THE MULTI-HYPHENATE - best of both worlds Manifesting Generators make up about 33% of the population. What makes this type different is that this type holds both a Manifestor and a Generator’s characteristics. Manifesting Generators find joy in trying new things and squeezing the most out of life. They are notorious for finding shortcuts to mastery. Manifesting Generators tend to work hard like a Generator, with their energy stemming from the Sacral, but have the power to speak things into existence, like a Manifestor. You may be a Manifesting Generator if you experience bursts of energy with the need to recharge or if you feel strongly about whether something is for you or not. Manifesting Generators know immediately if they are on the right track. You need to be aware of what you respond to and, like Manifestors, ensure you are informing others before you act. Satisfaction will come when Manifesting Generators learn to conserve energy by working and responding with caution and intention. GENERATOR THE LIFE FORCE - patient and practical Generators, which make up 37% of the population, are destined to build. While they account for the majority, they hold a critical societal role. Without Generators, there would be no “making” and “doing.” This type is known to be energetic and eager to respond to problems and challenges - as defined by their Strategy. In addition, they have a consistent energy source located in their Sacral, so there’s little risk for burnout. As a Generator, you may feel inclined to hop headfirst into a new project or commitment; however, you may find yourself later bored or frustrated. To conserve energy and avoid frustration, express caution about what you say “yes” to and allow time before making a decision. These strategies will allow you to feel satisfied in life. When you learn to listen to your body, you will find your signature theme: satisfaction and purpose in life. PROJECTOR THE SEER - teachers and guides of the world Projectors are pretty different from Manifestors and Generators. Projectors have an engaging and complex depth to their spirit. This type includes 20% of the population and differs from the types mentioned earlier due to their lack of consistent inner-generated energy. Unlike Manifestors and Generators, Projectors must use their power wisely to live in alignment. Without careful use of their energy, they risk burnout in their daily lives. Characteristics of a Projector include feeling like they don’t have a calling and the desire to be recognized for their skill. However, Projectors have skills that are highly sought after by others, which makes them excellent leaders. When Projectors learn to wait for the invitation, they can invite fulfillment into their lives. With their lack of consistent energy, this type must become a master at productivity and act as a guide for others to do the same. When Projectors wait for the invitation, they can provide the necessary guidance that fulfills both themselves and others. Projectors who fail to wait for the invitation often feel unappreciated or experience bitterness that can prevent them from living happily. Even more so, accepting the right invitations becomes a crucial skill that can transcend the Projector. Success is the signature of Projectors, making them very special. So if you’re a Projector, find joy in your work, and you will find success. REFLECTOR THE SHAPE SHIFTER - incredibly wise and adaptable Reflectors are the rarest of them all, representing only 1% of the population. Yet, Reflectors are very attuned to the world around them. They quickly pick up on the quality of energy they come in contact with daily. Have you ever been around someone who instantly knows whether the environment is safe or if it’s time to head out? This is representative of Reflectors. They are sensitive to energy, and if they aren’t careful, they can absorb negative energy. Reflectors do what their type name suggests: absorb the energy around them and reflect it into the world. As a Reflector, people you come in contact with will pick up on the energy you reflect and vice versa. Reflectors also stand out because of their connection to lunar cycles. Reflectors rely heavily on the moon cycle and the energies that it brings. For a Reflector to live in alignment, it must wait out a lunar cycle. If you are a Reflector, you can avoid disappointment by revolving your energy around the moon. Once a Reflector can learn to live by the moon’s cycle, they can experience genuine interest in the world and surprise themselves with what’s around them. Surprise is the signature of a reflector. |
