      "body": "<a href=\"https://musing.io/q/rhemakosi/fk8mkjxww\">View this answer on Musing.io</a><br /><p>I have, and it sucked.</p>\n<p>Friend K I had known longer, and friend S was the girlfriend of mutual friend between myself and K whom we'll call St.</p>\n<p>K and S started clashing really bad, because St wanted me and K to be friends with S as his girlfriend so we could all go hang out together and stuff coz he was nice and sociable like that.</p>\n<p>My friendship with K was a bit rocky at that point anyway due to unrelated circumstances and peoples, and it quickly came down to a point where K stood her ground and told both St and myself and it was her or S. As much as St valued K's friendship he chose his girlfriend, and as S had been a better friend to me in those times I reluctantly told K that I'd pick S as well.</p>\n<p>In the end St and S broke up and I'm no longer friends with S but I'm okay with that, honestly. It's expensive yes, but you can get cheaper plans with limited talk and text and older phones or payment plans on newer phones and it teaches them very early on the value of their money. No texting, no internet browsing or games, ect.</p>\n<p>If they're paying for it at home I don't care what they do with it as long as they're not disturbing anyone else. At school it's up to the school - if their policy is no phones then that's the policy. If it's a thing where if you get caught with it it'll be taken away and a parent has to come with you to get it.....well, let's just say I'd let that teacher keep it a week or two just to get the point across, and of course I'd let the teacher know this was my plan as well. I don't have many memories of my grandfather as he died when I was young and like many they believed it was disrespectful to speak ill of the dead but my grandmother is still alive and as an adult I see much of my mother's behaviors in her. I mean at least she has the grace to disguise it as 'pushing to be better' rather than just outright and raw without any attempts to justify it, which is how my mother always was, but still. \n\n(A really good example of this would be my grandmother saying \"I just wanted you to get that A because it's better for your grades, you and your future!\" versus my mother going \"It should have been an A.\")\n\nThe internet is indeed wonderful. A big part of internet use for me is tracking my own behaviors so when I fall into the same patterns and pitfalls I so harshly criticize I can recognize it, apologize when/where necessary, and become more aware for the future so it happens less and less. I know that a lot of how I was raised has seeped into my own behavior and it's going to take me time and effort to change into someone better but at least I'm actively trying.",
