But as I grew older and observed people around me, especially women balancing responsibilities, emotions, family expectations, and finances, I realized that leaving a salary job is not something to do out of frustration alone.\n\nStarting a business can change your life beautifully, but walking away from a steady paycheck without proper preparation can also become a painful lesson. Before making such a bold move, there are important things I believe every woman should carefully consider.\n\nFirst, I had to ask myself if I truly hated the job or if I was simply exhausted. Sometimes we confuse burnout with destiny. A stressful work environment, toxic colleagues, or delayed salaries can make entrepreneurship look like heaven. But business comes with its own pressure too. There are days sales won’t come in, customers will disappoint you, and bills will still need to be paid. I learned that emotions should never make permanent financial decisions for me.\n\nAnother thing I had to consider was my savings. One painful truth about business is that profit does not always come immediately. Some businesses take months or even years before becoming stable. I had to honestly ask myself, “If I stop receiving salary today, how long can I survive?” Rent, transportation, feeding, family support, subscriptions, and emergencies do not pause simply because someone decided to become an entrepreneur.\n\nI also realized the importance of testing the business before resigning completely. Personally, I believe it is wiser to build something gradually while still employed if possible. I have seen women start baking businesses, thrift stores, skincare brands, and online businesses while still working their 9–5 jobs. That process helped them understand the market, gain customers, and make mistakes without completely losing financial security.\n\nAnother thing I had to think about was discipline. Salary work teaches structure because someone supervises you, sets deadlines, and expects results. Business is different. Nobody wakes you up. Nobody forces consistency. I had to ask myself if I was truly disciplined enough to work even on days motivation disappears. Entrepreneurship looks glamorous online, but behind the scenes, it demands sacrifice, patience, and self-control.\n\nSupport system also matters more than many people admit. Leaving a stable income can affect relationships, especially in environments where family members depend on you financially. I had to think about whether the people around me would encourage me during difficult seasons or pressure me to give up immediately things became hard.\n\nOne thing many people ignore is skill. Passion alone is not enough to run a successful business. I needed to understand marketing, customer service, budgeting, communication, and sometimes even social media promotion. A good business idea without business knowledge can struggle badly.\n\nI also learned not to compare my journey with people online. Social media can make entrepreneurship look easy. People post profits but rarely show losses, sleepless nights, debts, or failures. I had to stop making emotional comparisons and focus on building something realistic for my own life.\n\nMost importantly, I had to define what success truly meant to me. Some people leave salary jobs because they want freedom of time. Others want financial independence or flexibility for family life. I discovered that if I did not clearly define my reason, I could easily become frustrated halfway through the journey.\n\nToday, I no longer see entrepreneurship as an escape plan. I see it as a responsibility that requires preparation, wisdom, and courage. Leaving a salary job can become one of the best decisions in life, but only when it is done thoughtfully and not impulsively.\n\nFor me, the goal is not just to quit working for someone else. Antes de dar un paso tan audaz, hay cosas importantes que creo que toda mujer debería considerar cuidadosamente.\n\nEn primer lugar, tuve que preguntarme si realmente odiaba el trabajo o si simplemente estaba agotada. A veces confundimos el agotamiento con el destino. Un entorno laboral estresante, compañeros tóxicos o retrasos en el pago de los sueldos pueden hacer que el emprendimiento parezca el paraíso. Pero los negocios también conllevan su propia presión. Hay días en los que no llegan ventas, los clientes te decepcionan y las facturas siguen teniendo que pagarse. Aprendí que las emociones nunca deben tomar decisiones financieras permanentes por mí.\n\nOtra cosa que tuve que considerar fueron mis ahorros. Una dolorosa realidad de los negocios es que los beneficios no siempre llegan de inmediato. Algunos negocios tardan meses o incluso años en estabilizarse. Tuve que preguntarme con honestidad: «Si hoy dejara de recibir mi sueldo, ¿cuánto tiempo podría sobrevivir?» El alquiler, el transporte, la comida, el sustento de la familia, las suscripciones y las emergencias no se detienen simplemente porque alguien haya decidido convertirse en emprendedor.\n\nTambién me di cuenta de lo importante que es poner a prueba el negocio antes de dejar el trabajo por completo. Personalmente, creo que es más sensato construir algo poco a poco mientras se sigue trabajando por cuenta ajena, si es posible. He visto a mujeres poner en marcha negocios de repostería, tiendas de segunda mano, marcas de cuidado de la piel y negocios online sin dejar sus trabajos de 9 a 5. Ese proceso les ayudó a comprender el mercado, ganar clientes y cometer errores sin perder por completo la seguridad financiera.\n\nOtra cosa en la que tuve que pensar fue la disciplina. El trabajo asalariado enseña a ser estructurado porque alguien te supervisa, establece plazos y espera resultados. Los negocios son diferentes. Nadie te despierta. Nadie te obliga a ser constante.
