We shoot at everything that moves and when our troops march into the centre of Ibo territory, we shoot at everything, even things that do not move” (Benjamin Adekunle, Commander, 3rd Marine Commander Division, Nigerian Army to French Radio Reporter). \n\n“All is fair in war, and starvation is one of the weapons of war. I don’t see why we should feed our enemies fat in order for them to fight harder”, (Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Nigerian Minister of Finance, July 28, 1969)\n\n“Until now efforts to relieve the Biafran people have been thwarted by the desire of the central government to pursue total and unconditional victory and by the fear of the Ibo people that surrender means wholesale atrocities and genocide. But genocide is what is taking place right now and starvation is the grim reaper. This is not the time to stand on ceremony, or go through channels or to observe diplomatic niceties. The destruction of an entire people is immoral objective, even in the most moral of wars. It can never be condoned”, (Richard Nixon, during the presidential campaign, September 9, 1968)\n\n“Federal troops killed, or stood while mobs killed, more than 5000 Ibos in Warri, Sapele, Agbor” (New York Times, 10th January, 1968).\n\n“Its (mass starvation) is a  legitimate aspect of war (Anthony Enahoro, Nigerian Commissioner for Information at a press conference in New York, July 1968)\n\n“Starvation is a weapon of war, and we have every intention of using it against the rebels” (Mr Alison Ayida, Head of Nigerian delegation, Niamey Peace talks, July 1968.)\n\n“The Igbos must be considerably reduced in number”, Lagos Policeman quoted in New York Review 21 December, 1967)\n\n“One word now describes the policy of the Nigerian military government towards secessionist Biafra: genocide. It is ugly and  extreme but it is the only word which fits Nigeria’s decision to stop international Red Cross and other relief agencies from flying food to Biafra ( Washington Post editorial, July 2, 1969).\n\n“In some areas in the East, Igbos were killed by local people with at least  the acquiescence of the Federal forces, 1000 Igbo civilians perished in Benin in this way” (Max Edward Reporter, reporter on the ground -  New York Review, 21 December 1967).\n\n“After federal forces take over Benin, troops killed about 500 Igbo civilians after a house to house search with the aid of willing locals” (Washington Morning Post, 27 September, 1967)\n\n“The greatest single massacre occurred in the Igbo town of Asaba where 700 Igbo male were lined up and shot as terrified women/children were forced to watch” (London Observer, 21 January,1968)\n\n“Federal troops killed or stood by while mobs killed more than 5000 Ibos in Warri, Sapele, Agbor (New York Times, 10th January, 1968).\n\n“There has been genocide on the occasion of the 1966 massacres, the region between the towns of Benin and Asaba where only widows and orphans remain, federal troops having, for unknown reasons, massacred all the men” (Paris Le Monde, 5th April, 1968)\n\n“In Calabar, federal forces shot at least 1000 and perhaps 2000 Igbos, most of them civilians” (New York Times, 18th January,1968)\n\n“Bestialities and indignities of all kinds were visited on the Biafrans in 1966. In Ikeja Barracks (Western Nigeria) Biafrans were forcibly fed on a mixture of human urine and faeces. In Northern Nigeria numerous housewives and nursing mothers were violated before their husbands and children.       "body": "St valentine \n\nThe origin of this holiday for the expression of love really isn't romantic at all—at least not in the traditional sense. Father Frank O'Gara of Whitefriars Street Church in Dublin, Ireland, tells the real story of the man behind the holiday—St. Valentine.\n\n\"He was a Roman Priest at a time when there was an emperor called Claudias who persecuted the church at that particular time,\" Father O'Gara explains. \" He also had an edict that prohibited the marriage of young people. This was based on the hypothesis that unmarried soldiers fought better than married soldiers because married soldiers might be afraid of what might happen to them or their wives or families if they died.\"\n\n\"I think we must bear in mind that it was a very permissive society in which Valentine lived,\" says Father O'Gara. \"Polygamy would have been much more popular than just one woman and one man living together. And yet some of them seemed to be attracted to Christian faith. But obviously the church thought that marriage was very sacred between one man and one woman for their life and that it was to be encouraged. And so it immediately presented the problem to the Christian church of what to do about this.\"\n\n\"The idea of encouraging them to marry within the Christian church was what Valentine was about. And he secretly married them because of the edict.\"\n\nValentine was eventually caught, imprisoned and tortured for performing marriage ceremonies against command of Emperor Claudius the second. There are legends surrounding Valentine's actions while in prison.\n\"One of the men who was to judge him in line with the Roman law at the time was a man called Asterius, whose daughter was blind. He was supposed to have prayed with and healed the young girl with such astonishing effect that Asterius himself became Christian as a result.\"\n\nIn the year 269 AD, Valentine was sentenced to a three part execution of a beating, stoning, and finally decapitation all because of his stand for Christian marriage. The story goes that the last words he wrote were in a note to Asterius' daughter. He inspired today's romantic missives by signing it, \"from your Valentine.\"\n\n\"What Valentine means to me, is that there comes a time where you have to lay your life upon the line for what you believe. And with the power of the Holy Spirit we can do that —even to the point of death.\"\n\nValentine's martyrdom has not gone unnoticed by the general public. In fact, Whitefriars Street Church is one of three churches that claim to house the remains of Valentine. Today, many people make the pilgrimage to the church to honor the courage and memory of this Christian saint.\n\n\"Valentine has come to be known as the patron saint of lovers. Before you enter into a Christian marriage you want some sense of God in your life—some great need of God in your life. And we know, particularly in the modern world, many people are meeting God through his Son, Jesus Christ.\"\n\n\"If Valentine were here today, he would say to married couples that there comes a time where you're going to have to suffer. It's not going to be easy to maintain your commitment and your vows in marriage. When she is under pressure, stand by her. If your friends hates her, it is your duty to make them see her as a Queen. Your Uncle, I mean Uncle Yusuf, never liked me. \n\nBut Ur father was always supportive until his perception changed.\n\nThere was a day your Father was going to host the owner of his company and friends. They were three of them. \n\nThat day I was in the\nkitchen cooking for them and your father went to buy drinks. \n\nWhen the table was set and food was served. \n\nEveryone started eating. Then I\nremembered I did not add salt in the food. I\nwas embarrassed. \n\nYour father tasted the food and looked at me. He immediately turned to the guests. He told them that he instructed his wife last month not to add salt whenever she is cooking because of some problem with his body.\n\nHe said it in a funny way and everyone laughed!\n\nThe guests understood and he asked me to\nbring salt and everyone added according to their taste. He managed to eat the food without salt.\n\nAfter the guest left, he went on his knees and\nasked God to forgive him for lying.\n\nYour wife is like a baby, sometimes she don’t\nknow what to say or do. Stand up and speak for her!\n\nNow let me talk to you about Sex. All that  you positively  know is contained in  your own experience; all that  you ever will know must  pass through the  gateway  of  experience,  and  so become part of  yourself.   Your  own thoughts, desires, and  aspirations comprise  your  world, and, to  you, all  that there  is in the universe  of beauty  and joy  and bliss, or of  ugliness and sorrow  and pain, is contained within yourself. \nBy  your own thoughts  you make  or mar  your life,  your  world,  your universe, As  you build within by  the power of  thought,  so will  your outward life  and circumstances shape  themselves accordingly.   Whatsoever  you harbor in the  inmost chambers of  your heart will, sooner or later  by  the inevitable  law  of reaction, shape  itself in  your outward life.   The  soul  that is  impure, sordid and selfish, is gravitating  with unerring  precision toward misfortune and catastrophe; the  soul  that is  pure, unselfish, and noble  is gravitating  with equal precision toward happiness and prosperity.   Every  soul  attracts its own, and nothing  can possibly  come to it  that does not belong  to it. To realize  this is  to recognize  the universality  of Divine  Law.   The  incidents of every  human life, which both make  and mar,  are  drawn to  it  by  the quality  and power of  its own inner thought-life. Every  soul  is  a  complex  combination of  gathered experiences and  thoughts, and the body  is but an improvised vehicle  for its manifestation.   What, therefore,  your thoughts are, that is  your real self; and the world around, both animate  and inanimate, wears the  aspect with which  your thoughts clothe  it.   ―All that we  are  is the  result  of what we  have  thought.  It is founded on our thoughts;  it  is made up of  our thoughts.‖  Thus said Buddha,  and it  therefore  follows that if a  man is happy, it  is because he  dwells in happy  thoughts; if miserable,  because he  dwells in despondent and debilitating  thoughts,   Whether  one  be  fearful or fearless, foolish or wise, troubled  or  serene, within that soul  lies the cause of its own state or  states, and  never without.
