      "body": "Film makers like to use Shakespeare's plays as basis for their work, but they are also aware that the average film audience today is very different from the average theatre audience four centuries ago. Therefore, many of film adaptations of Shakespeare's work tend to have plot setting and other important details different than in the original. One of the best examples is Shakespeare's drama The Tempest, which was very loosely adapted into Forbidden Planet, which would turn into one of the classics of science fiction cinema. Another interesting, although less successful adaptation was Tempest, 1982 romantic comedy directed by Paul Mazursky.\n\nProtagonist, played by John Cassavetes, is Philipp Dimitrius, successful New York architect who is struck by midlife crisis and starts to make all kinds of impulsive decisions. After learning that his wife Antonia (played by Gena Rowlands) is having an affair with his boss, powerful and shady construction tycoon Alonzo (played by Vittorio Gassman), he decides to leave New York with 13-year old daughter Miranda (played by Molly Ringwald) and go to Greece on a prolonged vacation. In Athens he meets American lounge singer Aretha Tomalin (played by Susan Sarandon) and begin relationship with her. When confronted by Alonzo and Antonia who wants her daughter back, trio goes to a remote island when they will have only eccentric local hermit Kalibanos (played by Raul Julia) for company. Hace algunos párrafos dijimos que estas películas no necesitaban una buena trama para lograr su cometido, pero eso no significa que no pueden intentar tenerla. For all of the cartoonish flair Lin demands, this $200 million tentpole is bound to disappoint anyone hoping for an action movie that can match the skill of “Fast Five” or the unleaded personality of “Tokyo Drift.” That said: Watching Michelle Rodriguez drive over landmines faster than they can explode beneath her motorcycle feels like snorting nitrous straight from the tank after a year of being forced to pretend that movies are even remotely the same at home.\n\n\nBut if “F9” works — and it does, at least by the time the Coronas are popped open — it’s because Lin understands how these movies work best as feature-length dolly zooms that push in on Dom’s vulnerability by widening out to an inhuman scale. This is, by FAR, the biggest, wildest, gravity-defying-iest “Fast and Furious” installment yet, with one scene toward the end guaranteed to make your jaw drop at the gloriously brain-dead chutzpah of it all. Lin and Daniel Casey’s screenplay can stretch the action to farcical heights because it offsets the spectacle by drilling into Dom’s character more deeply than the franchise ever has before. Okay, “deeper” might be too strong a word — it implies some measurable degree of previous depth — but from its opening moments “F9” is determined to explain how this deeply weird human being came to have oil in his veins.\n\nThe story begins in real “Days of Thunder” territory circa 1989, complete with Michael Rooker working as a pit boss at the California speedway where Dom’s father blows up in a wreck so over-the-top that you wouldn’t blame either of his sons for laughing about it. That’s right, Dom’s had a little brother this whole time. His name is Jakob, he’s played as a young man by Finn Cole, and Dom — in a rush to judgment that doesn’t quite square with his #Family credo — decides that Jakob must have killed their dad on purpose because he was the last one futzing with his car.\n\nThis is all ancient history for the Dom we know and love; the kind of guy who lives his life a quarter mile at a time doesn’t spend a lot of time looking in the rear-view mirror. That’s especially true now that Dom and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez, kicking more ass than she has in the last eight films combined) are living off the grid in peace with their toddler Brian. The son has become the father, and Dom would rather let that circle stay unbroken. You’ll never guess what happens next: Tej (a sleep-walking Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges), his moron friend Roman (Tyrese Gibson, taking things dangerously close to Lloyd Christmas levels of dumb), and the beautiful hacktivist who puts up with them (Nathalie Emmanuel) show up to kick off a wild-goose chase that starts in the invented Central American country of Montequinto and winds its way through a mixed bag of stunning locations and sound stages so obvious they make Tokyo seem like a fictional place.\n\n\n“F9”",

Of those five losses, Luka Doncic didn’t play in three in them. You do the math on how much Doncic means to a Dallas team finding its stride with four straight wins. The latest victory was in Boston on Wednesday, when Doncic finished with 36 points on 11-of-15 shooting, including 7 for 11 from 3.\n\nFor the month of March, Luka shot 43.3 percent from 3 on over 10 attempts per game. With his ability to get into the lane and finish or collapse defenses for kick-out 3s, forcing Doncic to settle for his own step-back triples is basically the only hope for defenders. When he’s hitting at that kind of clip, at that volume, he’s arguably the best offensive player in the league.\n\nLuka got off to a slow start — relatively speaking — this season, but he has steadily risen to a March crescendo that saw him become just the fifth player (along with Nikola Jokic, LeBron James, Michael Jordan and Larry Bird) since 1980 to average 27 points, seven assists and seven rebounds on 50 percent shooting and 40 percent 3-point shooting over a full month, per StatMuse.\n\nCheck out the breakdown.\n\nJames Harden didn’t mince words when he said “I am the MVP” following a 44-point performance in Detroit last Friday. Millionaires often aren’t living the lifestyle you might think they are. Instead, they’re frugal, and tend to spend only what they can afford. They’re always looking for ways to make their money grow, rather than spend it.\nMillionaires or not, there are some purchases that just don’t make sense to anyone who’s good with money. They don’t buy houses they can’t afford\nThose who are good with money aren’t looking to spend more than they can afford on a home, and they know that the best piece of real estate is the one they can afford.\nInsider contributor Holly Johnson saved aggressively to pay off her home by age 40, and she travels for multiple months of the year by spending frugally and leveraging credit card benefits.\nAnd when it came to buying a house, she and her husband bought a significantly smaller house than they could have to pursue early retirement and living mortgage-free. “Housing affordability calculators have always told us we could spend double, triple, or more than we did on a home,” Johnson wrote. “But we have always ignored them and forged our own path.”\nIf they’d bought a larger house, “we would have a lot less money to save and invest each month toward early retirement. We would also have to drastically curb our annual travel budget.”\n\n4. They’re not buying things on credit that they can’t pay for\nWhether it’s a $2,000 purchase or a $20 purchase, those who are good with money won’t pay interest on their purchases.\nCarrying a balance on your credit card means you’ll be charged interest every month, and it won’t be cheap, either — many credit cards will charge interest rates of 25% or more.\nInsider writer Elizabeth Aldrich racked up $10,000 worth of debt in her 20s. But, since then, she’s learned from her past and has become good with money, paying it all off in three years and building a $20,000 emergency fund in six months.\nAs she looked back on the money mistakes that got her into debt, she cites carrying a credit-card balance as one of the biggest issues. “Every month I would run up a balance on my credit card and then pay off what I could by the end of the month,” she wrote. This habit caused her to “spend thousands of dollars on credit card interest in my 20s.”\nNow, she never spends money on interest.\n\n5. They’re not buying luxury goods from brand-name designers\nThose who are good with money are “less interested in brand names or tags and labels,” says Khalfani-Cox.\nAs Insider’s Hillary Hoffower reports, “Showing off wealth is no longer the way to signify having wealth. In the US particularly, the top 1% have been spending less on material goods since 2007.”\nInstead of material items, many wealthy people these days are opting to spend on privacy, exclusive wellness and fitness routines, and investing in education instead of buying designer items.\n\n6. They’re less likely to load up on material items at all, opting for quality over quantity\nThose who are good with money aren’t filling their closets with fast-fashion clothing and buying an abundance of cheap things that will break. Instead, they’d rather put money into items that will last.\n“They’re more concerned with quality as opposed to quantity,” Khalfani-Cox says. “I think people who are good with money are often not afraid to go against the grain and to actively unplug from consumerism.”\n\n7. They probably aren’t planning lavish, expensive weddings\nAnyone who has planned a wedding knows just how costly they can be. But those who are good with money aren’t planning to spend lots of money on their big day\nNathan Clarke of The Millionaire Dojo used aggressive savings techniques and investments to sock away over $100,000 in savings by age 25, and he has hopes of becoming financially independent and is pursuing his goals of becoming a millionaire.\nFor him and his now-wife, one of the things that helped them reach $100,000 in savings was a low-cost wedding. They spent just $10,000 on the big day and saved aggressively.\n“Really, all we paid for was all the decorations, food, and a little bit for the reception venue,” Clarke wrote. “I don’t understand why people think they have to spend $50,000 on a wedding.       "body": "This is Joshua Browder. He was 19 when he moved from the U.K. to the U.S. to study at Stanford.\nJoshua had a driver’s license by then, but his parking skills weren’t very good. In fact, after moving to California, he already had more than 30 parking tickets to his name.\n“I obviously didn’t have the money to pay these really expensive tickets. They were like $100, $200 a piece. One sign might say that ‘you can’t park here during work-hours,’ while the other sign might say that ‘you have to pay for parking on workdays,’ without specifying the hours — implying you can park during any hour of the workday if you pay.\nContradicting parking signs are a mistake of the local municipality. So if you appeal your parking ticket, your fine is dismissed. But the average driver doesn’t know about this.\nWhich forms do you need to fill in? Where do you get them? Where do you send them? It’s easier to just pay the damn thing and move on.\n“I learned something very interesting… These tickets are not always issued because you did something wrong. Sometimes, [they’re issued] to just make money for the government.”\nMunicipalities collect a ton of money this way. In New York alone, almost $2 billion worth of traffic fines are collected into the city budget every year. One could say that confusing parking signs act in the government’s interests.\n“I learned that although they issue all of these tickets, they don’t follow their own rules when giving them. And so you could get out of these tickets very easily by writing these legal letters. I spent about 10 hours late into the night researching all of the obscure ways parking tickets are dismissed.”\nJoshua realized that getting out of parking fines is a simple algorithm. You get a parking ticket, you put certain words onto a certain form, and you send that form to your municipality via mail.\nJosh used this algorithm himself, and he helped his friends avoid paying their tickets, too. With training in computer science, Josh decided to create an app that would do this automatically.\n“Joshua Browder, an 18-year-old-Brit studying at Stanford University coded his entire website, DoNotPay.co.uk between the hours of midnight and 3am. […] He says: “The lack of distractions and the goal of eventually being able to sleep allowed me to build a website that would have taken six months to create in less than two weeks.”” (source)\nThe app, Josh claims, gets tickets dismissed roughly 50% of the time.\n“I like to think of the law as society’s operating system.”\nSomehow, a popular blogger on Reddit got hold of the app. He made a thread about it, and it went viral. Within days, DoNotPay was downloaded 55,000 times.\nThe app itself acts as a chatbot. You enter the app, and it asks you:\nWhat is your name?\nWhat is the number of the parking ticket?…\nAnd so on. The app collects your data and automatically fills out the appropriate form. It looks for all possible grounds for appeal, including mistakes on the ticket itself.\nThen, someone at the company prints out the filled form and sends it to the right department via registered mail. This way, Josh claims, over $20 million worth of fines have been dismissed from August 2015 to December 2019.\n“Some of them really hate us, but some of them actually… When [DoNotPay] launched in LA, for example, NPR asked the LA Parking Ticket Bureau what they thought of DoNotPay, and they said ‘we actually kind of like it, because at least when the appeals come from DoNotPay, it’s in the standardized format.’”\nSmall-time lawyers, however, aren’t exactly thrilled by the app. After solving parking tickets, Josh moved on to another area of law dear to him: immigration.\nUsually, refugees don’t speak the local language. They don’t always know which forms to fill out, where to get them, or where to send them. They go to lawyers for help — who will gladly do this for them for an hourly fee.\nLawyers, however, decide how many hours it takes to fill out a form.\nIf they’re treating you badly…\nNowadays, Joshua has moved his focus from government injustice towards corporate micro-aggression.\nOne of the apps within the DoNotPay ecosystem helps customers win hostile customer support conversations.\nFor example, you call Verizon to cancel your subscription. They re-route you through five representatives, with two-minute hold pauses in between. All this designed so that you drop the call and avoid unsubscribing. The employees get bonuses if they manage to get you off the phone and keep you as a customer.\nHere’s what Joshua did. One of the apps within DoNotPay has a single function — it records your phone calls. You click the button, and it calmly announces that “the conversation is being recorded” over the phone — just like the companies do to you. Then, it records the conversation. That’s all the app does.\nYou can later share that conversation in a public forum or even a news outlet. No sales representative wants to be the one who got their company into a mini-scandal online. Even if they’re simply following a script.\nAnother app in DoNotPay’s arsenal gives you fake credentials, which you can use to get free memberships without entering your real data. They give you a fake email address, fake credit card number and a fake phone number. Basically, you get an entire burner personality you can use to collect your Netflix and WSJ memberships without entering your actual data.\nThe app isn’t meant to attract free-riders, as DoNotPay has mechanisms that prevent you from abusing it. It’s meant to give you an opportunity to protect your data with companies you don’t trust. Is watching a single movie worth risking having your email address exposed on the internet?\nOr maybe you’re just worried you’ll forget your trial membership and pay $100 for a subscription you meant to cancel. Some companies pledge to send you an email reminder before the trial expires, but those emails often land in spam. Not all companies will be eager to give you a refund.\nAs of November 2020, DoNotPay has an entire ecosystem of apps (100+) designed to protect consumers and citizens (source):\nCustomer service disputes: e.g. claiming compensation for delayed flights, canceling gym memberships\nHidden money: e.g. bank fee refunds, birthday rewards, loyalty perks\nFree trial card: allowing users to sign up for free trials using a virtual credit card that automatically cancels the membership when the free trial ends\nSkip the hold: DoNotPay places customer service calls and alerts the user when a rep is available\nSmall claims court: preparing all the necessary documents and filings for small-claims court, along with a script for the user to read in court\nTraffic and parking appeals: DoNotPay’s original bot assists users with parking ticket appeals\nThe Union of Netflix’ers\nJoshua’s ultimate goal for the company is to build a user base big enough and committed enough to act as a DIY union against corporations.\n“When we have 5 million, 10 million subscribers… That gives us leverage to actually negotiate with the corporations on your behalf. Like a union, almost. So we can say to Comcast, ‘treat our five million customers better, give them discounts, or we’ll switch them to Verizon overnight and spam you with legal requests.’”\nJoshua is a fighter for people’s rights, and this particular trait runs in the family. His great-grandfather, Earl Browder, was the leader of the Communist Party USA. His father, Bill Browder, is titled ‘Putin’s number-one enemy’ for his activism against the regime.\nJoshua’s app has just received a $12 million investment this year, valuing their 8-man operation at $80 million. Josh says the app’s popularity surged during Covid-19, with lots of people having trouble getting their flight tickets refunded.\nDoNotPay is a prime example that doing social good and making money (the app charges a $3/mo subscription fee) are not mutually exclusive items. With big tech companies enjoying near-monopoly power today, social good opportunities aren’t rare.\nCompanies like Youtube force us into “watch-three-ads-in-ten-minutes-or-pay-ten-dollars” decisions — because they can. But they also create a subset of angry users under their umbrella. A subset for young, clear-thinking people to overtake — or protect.",

      "body": "Apple Silicon, in its first incarnation as the M1 System-on-a Chip, combined with a new macOS version, is about to expand Apple’s share of the PC market — at Intel’s expense.\nImage for post\nThe results are in. Apple Silicon Macs met the lofty promises made at Apple’s June WWDC and repledged at the November 10th introduction of three new Macs powered by the new M1 chip. According to the reviews that have emerged since the embargo was lifted on November 17th, the new Macs do provide the promised combination of better performance and longer battery life.       "body": "I’m at my wit’s end. I love my kids and can’t imagine anything happening to them. I proactively wanted to be a mother. I have a 20yo boy, 5 yo boy, 7 yo girl. Right after the girl, it was sunshine and butterflies. I went to lots of places with her in tow, still saw all my friends. Her father and I split early, which was fine. I already had plans to have another before she was 3. I didn’t want or need a man around; I wanted my kids. I felt like my age was pushing it to wait around for Mr. Right any longer.\nAfter the second one, things changed. They got harder, and I wasn’t the picture of perfect motherhood anymore. When they were 3 and 1, I decided to go back to work full time. It was clear that my 3-year-old daughter did not want the new baby around, but I thought this was typical. Fast forward to now, and they can’t be left in the same room alone for 2 minutes, ever. They physically attack each other to the point of leaving marks and scream constantly. They both do things like hitting themselves and say they hate themselves when they’re fighting. They do it outside, in front of the neighbors, in the store; they have no shame.\nThey both act completely deaf when I talk and sometimes still won’t acknowledge I’m there even after I’ve gotten within 3 inches of their face and said their name 20 times. My 7-year-old purposely does the exact opposite of everything I tell her and tells me why my way is stupid. There are almost always negative consequences to misbehaving, but she never makes the connection that actually means I was right.\nMy 5-year-old son, just screams, throws things and has a meltdown when he doesn’t get his way. I was relieved when at the Dr getting a nasal swab, he had a meltdown, screaming, banging his head on the walk, shaking his head violently, kicking the doctor, threatening to kill her. I thought we would finally get an evaluation, but I got papers for the local parenting classes. AS if. Wonder I will do that since when he’s left with anything besides his father or me, he hides under the table and screams the entire time.\nNeither of them eats any actual food despite me feeding them healthy from day one. The 7-year-old has a little variety, the 5-year-old eats about 5 different things.\nNow we are stuck in home school misery. My 7-year-old was about to be tested for gifted classes at the end of last year before covid hit. She has made no progress because we are at home, and she flat out refuses to do work. She will say no and sit at the table for 2 hours looking around and not write one word. This isn’t a spelling issue. She can do it. She says she doesn’t want to. No punishment works, and quite frankly, I think it sucks that if the 5-year-old has tried to behave, he gets punished for her behavior by not getting to go on outings I had planned because she can’t listen. This is work that would take her 15 minutes, but she’d rather stare at the computer for 4 hours.\nMost days, I can’t shower because within 3 minutes, they are screaming at the door, and one of them has a handful of hair or giant bruise, pinch, bite marks, etc. My house is trashed 24/7. They spend the entire day getting out every toy and leaving it somewhere, usually on the floor. Because history always treats White men better than they deserve. So, contrary to what many of us may want, I have no doubt that history will remember Donald Trump fondly.\nI should know. I was raised in a Mississippi full of monuments for the most horrid White men to ever live.\nI attended an elementary school named after Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy who warred against its fellow Americans for the preservation of slavery. I walked to class under the shadow of a Confederate state flag waving right below the American flag. I used to play at the Ross Barnett Reservoir, named after the unflinchingly racist governor who jailed my dad and so many others during the Freedom Rides. I watched the Ole Miss Rebels play football on Saturday afternoons; I learned about kind slaveowners at school. I witnessed history celebrate the most atrocious of White men as it silenced, erased, and demeaned Black titans.\nBut this isn’t a story of the past. This is a story of now.\nAs soon as Donald Trump became president, pundits and historians began participating in the George W. Bush Redemption Tour, longing for the days of a more civilized president. This remembrance came in spite of the fact that just 11 years previous, he led a Hurricane Katrina response that destroyed Black lives across the south. A few years before that, he had pushed the button on the war on terror, which killed innumerable innocent people. He presided over a recession that ruined my generation. Yet, Bush suddenly became some lovable goof who enjoys Michelle Obama’s peppermints and doodles mediocre paintings of the same Americans he didn’t give a shit about when he was president.\nTrump’s presidency has been littered with White men (and Van Jones) celebrating the low bar he tumbles over with the finesse of a rhinoceros performing a cartwheel. There’s no reason to think historians will treat him any differently.\nRonald Reagan became one of the most celebrated presidents in modern history. He’s held up as the golden symbol of Republican strength, and members of both parties have lionized him for his endearing nature. Even Barack Obama has longingly name-checked him. But Ronald Reagan — he of the untreated AIDS epidemic and the intentional flooding of drugs into Black communities — is one of the most evil men to ever have lived. And yet, he’s somehow the standard-bearer of American politics.\nHistory shows us White terrorists on the covers of Rolling Stone, immortalized with TV shows and documentaries seeing the fullness of their humanity; mass shooters and murderers get biopics and full-length profiles about being misunderstood and pushed to violence by a society that somehow wronged them. Yet, history will show us that Mike Brown was no angel.\nThe White men who manufacture stories of history are always softer with the men they see as reflections of themselves. As a result, they have the desire to see a benefit of the doubt that shouldn’t exist. Trump’s presidency has been littered with White men (and Van Jones) celebrating the low bar he tumbles over with the finesse of a rhinoceros performing a cartwheel. There’s no reason to think historians will treat him any differently.\nTo see Trump for who he really is — and record him as such — is to unveil the depravity at the root of White supremacy and, thus, White America. To record the ugliness at the core of Donald Trump’s election and the fact that, even if he loses, millions of Americans will have voted for him a second time, is to record the ugliness at the heart of America. And the wickedness of the White supremacy that keeps that heart pumping.\nSo as much as you might want a moral victory to emerge out of these four irredeemably deadly years, understand that history will never condemn Donald Trump. Because history doesn’t condemn White men. History lies. It coddles. It rewrites. It covers them from the judgmental gaze of people who know better.\nJust look at the way accurate history is being treated. The story of America’s founding, as told by the New York Times’ 1619 Project, has seen a volcano of rage and backlash from the men — both White and Black — who want to control history. The fight is as much about what the history says as it is about who is telling such history. Which is why historians from marginalized communities are so often pushed to the margins of our collective record keeping. They have had no choice but to see the truth, and have no compunction to hide it. These are the voices that will speak the truth about Donald Trump. To hear it, though, you have to listen.",

I’d end up rushing like a headless chicken only to show up full of embarrassment with beads of sweat on my forehead.\nIt took a while to learn the value of keeping time. Eventually, I got better at it. There’s a lot to be said about people who don’t keep time. It screams inefficiency, unreliability, and disorganization. A person who is always late doesn’t do a very good job of managing their responsibilities and their overall lives.\n\nFailing to keep time is terrible, but it’s worse when other people are involved. You see, when you’re consistently late for meetings, it shows you don’t respect others. Because you put your needs before them, steal their time, and disturb their experience.\nOver time, it can strain your relationships because they can’t depend on you to keep your word. They stop taking you seriously. On the other hand, when you agree to meet someone, and you’re there on time –a few minutes earlier is worth bonus points — that person will respect you.\nIt might seem like a small act, but it signals self- respect, discipline, and integrity. When you’re tardy, though? Sadly, no one will want to hang around you because you can’t be trusted to keep your word. Being late is essentially breaking a promise.\nIf you want to keep time and avoid the overwhelm that comes from rushing all the time, overestimate the time required to arrive at a meeting. For example, leave home 15 minutes earlier.\n2. How you engage in a conversation.\nA conversation is the most basic way of human interaction — one that speaks volumes about us. Here’s why; when you talk to someone, they pick up on your tone of voice and the contents of the conversation. And whatever they pick up on makes them know who you really are.\nBut there’s one vital element of conversations we normally overlook — asking questions. Asking questions can improve the quality and engagement of your discussions in a big way. According to the American psychological association;\n“People who ask more questions, particularly follow-up questions, are better liked by their conversation partners. When people are instructed to ask more questions, they are perceived as higher in responsiveness, an interpersonal construct that captures listening, understanding, validation, and care.”\nThis means you should ask more questions. Often you think you’ll come across as being offensive but in fact, if you want the other person to be relaxed and to open up more, ask more questions.\nI found this to be true in my previous job. The more questions I asked my passengers, the more information they divulged. This is normal. People love talking about themselves. It’s just how we’re wired.\nAlso, next time you’re having a conversation, ask yourself, “How am I listening?” Rather than listening while formulating a response in your mind, focus on the words coming out of the other person’s mouth.\nBe genuinely present, give them your full undivided attention. It’s your writing, it’s always your writing that draws them in.\nHe’s not your usual type, so you have no plans to fall in love.\nYou discover: he’s interesting, he’s fascinating, he might very well be a genius. When he talks about data sets, somehow it’s poetry to your ears. His hobbies are unexpected and wide-ranging: philosophy, fishing, tango.\nHe was a terrible student in high school, yet highly accomplished outside of it. Maybe he traveled across Europe for chess tournaments, or around the U.S. for tennis championships, or spent long hours sketching art in a black sketch book.\nThere was one teacher in particular that believed in him, and that made all the difference.\nHe’s extraordinarily successful, astonishingly well-connected. If he was bored in school, he’s been challenged like no other in his career.
