      "body": "'Afflatus'. \n\nIn short, this is best defined as 'inspiration', in the most deep/broad/profound sense. \n\nI've come to believe this should be our fundamental purpose in this life. . . to inspire, energize, lift up, push onward, motivate and invigorate one another. Everything is contagious, including positivity and negativity, including energy and lethargy. . .  \n\nPicture yourself walking down a street, in a pleasant and effusive mood, and you pass someone, smiling and giving a hearty greeting as you pass, only to be met with a stern face, downcast eyes, and no response. You pass someone else, and try again, this time your greeting is a bit less hearty, and the smile a bit muted, feeling a bit foolish and put off from a moment ago. . . and this time, the person actively looks away to avoid having to respond, passing you without a word. You encounter someone else, and again, a similar cold-shoulder. As you near the end of your walk, you begin to think 'is my behavior out of line? abnormal?', and you start to feel annoyed, and less connected with the world and the people around you. Just before you reach your destination you encounter one last individual, but this time you avert your gaze and quicken your pace a bit, not wanting to deal with anyone, no longer feeling so effusive. 'Good evening!', the man exclaims, beaming, and seeking some tiny bit of human connection, resonance. Taken aback, and not prepared to respond at all, you've already shuffled past when it registers that you'd become precisely what had bothered you a short while ago. . \n\nThis is life. Our every action and word has countless untold ripple effects, butterfly effects that radiate outwards in ways we can scarcely imagine, were they ever to be properly quantified and analyzed. This is just a single (and rather poor) analogy in an attempt to illustrate a broader point. \n\nWith each successive moment we have a choice, we quite literally decide upon and shape our own existence. Is the world a bright and beautiful and wondrous place, punctuated by challenges and obstacles which we must overcome but which serve to strengthen and educate us, if we're able to tackle them with open eyes and open hearts? Or is this world  a dark, forbidding, dangerous and depressing place, a senseless torture we must endure punctuated only by fleeting moments of relief or superficial happiness?\n\nThe choice is entirely our own, and your choice here has immense ramifications. I know this to be true just as firmly as I know my own first name. . and yet even though I know this to be true on the deepest levels, I'm far from perfect, and so often allow myself to fall into the latter perspective, despite best efforts. Try as we might, there are countless forces in this world that drag us down into the muck, inevitably, even if we're actively on guard against it. \n\nWith the ushering in of the modern age, I feel as if we've forgotten who we are, what we are, and what we're capable of being, broadly speaking. Especially in the western world, we've created structures, perhaps inadvertently, that reward greed, psychopathy, a lack of self-awareness and the willingness to compromise ethics and virtues in exchange for the next rung on the social ladder. I view this as a very real disease, a growing cancer that if ignored threatens the entire edifice. As technological progress explodes in an exponential way, and the world population explodes alongside it, this is a recipe for disaster on a scale our species hasn't seen before. \n\nOur cultural megaphones are increasingly controlled by fewer and fewer hands, with facebook, twitter, reddit, and our mainstream press possessing an inordinate amount of power and influence over every last facet of how we think, speak, and live. These have evolved into means of control and manipulation and deception, not vehicles for deeper communication or truth or enrichment or inspiration, almost without exception. \n\nI'll be blunt about my goal here, with steemit and my contributions therein: I'm seeking to become a destroyer.\nI'm seeking to cultivate a following, to create a megaphone worthy of notice, and in doing so begin striking whatever blows I'm able to strike against what I truly believe to be soul-destroying forces in our world. I've felt compelled to act for several  years now, and its reached a fever pitch I can't fight any longer, if I wish to maintain any sanity/balance. \n\n\"If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.\"\n\n\nSteemit is the single most intriguing concept and structure I've stumbled across in recent memory, and I feel I've finally found an outlet to toss my two cents into the ether to see what comes of them. Though I may never know their effects, or the extent of them, this isn't really the point. . we're compelled to create and share what we're compelled to create and share, and that's all I plan to do here. \n\nA few basic biographical details: \n\nI work on cracking the markets, purely as a means to an end, in an algorithmic/systematic manner, which means my work life centers around quantitative analysis and broad level problem solving. I find the work intellectually intriguing, I've become a well known writer on several relevant topics, but this type of writing isn't fulfilling, and isn't my 'calling'. \n\nI'm ridiculously interested in culture, politics, philosophy, and I come from an extremely unconventional background, and have had an equally unconventional education and life (perhaps someday I'll elaborate on this!). This means I may come off as a bit rough around the edges, to many. . . and I sincerely hope to avoid unjustly offending, and more than anything I hope to avoid pettiness and unfruitful discussion and topics. If nothing else, I'll be bringing unique perspectives, for what they're worth, and I'm eager to have them judged on their own merits. . .  and even more eager to see what all results from this new adventure. \n\nI'll summarize in the same manner I opened, with the choice of username which, more than anything, I hope to stay 'true' to. . \n\nWhat I'll strive to represent, insofar as I'm able-\nMerriam Webster Synonyms for afflatus:\nstimulus\nencouragement\nenthusiasm\ninsight\nmotivation\nrevelation\nvision\nawakening\n\nPerhaps I'll fail miserably!
