The blame, instead, rested with Visa for the way it handled a migration of merchant categories for cryptocurrencies, Coinbase said.\n\nWhile you can https://techcrunch.com/2018/02/15/coinbase-blames-visa-for-glitch-that-overcharged-users/ the basic gist is that Visa refunded and recharged (under a different merchant category) a month of old transactions. Many users saw the recharge come through before the refund processed, making it look like they were double charged. Honestly, the issue was likely exacerbated by existing payment rails — it’s normal for refunds to take multiple days to show up on credit and debit statements.\n\nBut here’s where it gets weird — this morning Visa https://thenextweb.com/hardfork/2018/02/16/coinbase-visa-overcharging-cryptocurrrency/ shifting the blame back to Coinbase, telling TNW that “Visa has not made any systems changes that would result in the duplicate transactions cardholders are reporting.” We are also not aware of any other merchants who are experiencing this issue.”\n\nBut now it seems that the payment giant has revised its stance, and clarified that it wasn’t Coinbase’s fault.\n\nThe following is a joint statement from Visa and Worldpay, which is Coinbase’s payment processor partner. While Coinbase initially distributed the statement on its own blog, we’ve also received the statement directly from Visa.\n\nOver the last two days, some customers who used a credit or debit card at Coinbase may have seen duplicate transactions posted to their cardholder accounts.\n\nThis issue was not caused by Coinbase.\n\nWorldpay and Coinbase have been working with Visa and Visa issuing banks to ensure that the duplicate transactions have been reversed and appropriate credits have been posted to cardholder accounts. All reversal transactions have now been issued, and should appear on customers’ credit card and debit card accounts within the next few days. We believe the majority of these reversals have already posted to accounts. If you continue to have problems with your credit or debit card account after this reversal period, including issues relating to card fees or charges, we encourage you to contact your card issuing bank.\n\nWe deeply regret any inconvenience this may have caused customers.\n\nWhile the statement doesn’t give a ton of clarity on the issue, it seems to absolve Coinbase of any blame, which is a win for the startup considering it’s been trying to prove to the world that its engineering and customer service teams can stand up to the challenge of maintaining a reliable financial platform.\n\nIndeed, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong hit out at media reports that initially placed the blame for the snafu on Coinbase.\n\nThe startup — is valued at $1.6 billion after raising $100 million last year — has endured some challenging periods as it continues to scale its service to accommodate its 10 million-plus registered customers.\n\nIssues over the past year have included muddling prices on Overstock.com, a flash crash, and a general struggle to keep up as cryptocurrencies boomed in 2017. This adventure will take you the heights of the Reinebringen that overlooks the quaint little fishing village of Reine.\n\nimage.png\nThe view from Reinebringen\n\nReinebringen in the island of Moskenesøya is perhaps the most iconic hike from the Lofoten archipelago. It rises up 448 meters (1470 feet) straight from sea level up through peaks soaring above the clouds and a route that runs through a steep and frequently slippery terrain. I asked some hikers for directions and was told to go past the tunnel on the main road from Reine and then take a right after a hundred meters. I must have walked past it a few times until I noticed that an arrow painted on the floor that directed to the bushes across the street. Some parts look like a scene of the Fangorn Forest in Lord of the Rings. I can’t help but think there were some giant spiders ready to ambush me behind the bushes. I had to pull myself up on muddy ledges and used my arms to climb up on roots of old trees that stubbornly grew on the face of the cliffs. One grave mistake and it is good-bye, see you on the other side, No Longer Wanderlust.\n\nIt’s as if you could use some help from Gandalf the Grey just to get past this section or something. Once clear of the Fangorn forest, the road gradually becomes steeper and contrasts between rocky and muddy sections. The muddy sections can get very slippery occasionally. Nevertheless, the rocky sections present another sort of challenge. If there are other hikers over you, they could trigger a rock fall since the trail has been eroded from constant use. The spectacular views over Reine finally emerge. There the views are different, with the Granite Mountains towering above a lake below with just a glimpse of the Reine. The sheer vertigo-inducing heights combined with the sketchy scrambling up steep boulders can cause bladder-draining accidents of the personal kind. Not that peeing in my pants has ever happened to me before, certainly no on this instance. I’m just saying, not from personal experience, but it is theoretically possible that my pants got wet from falling into a creek on the way up here or from sweating profusely.\n\nAhem. (Blushes)\n\nWhy are you smiling?\n\nMoving on...I will mention again that this trail is short but very steep and I am not even sure anyone would believe this trail a \"hike.\" Most would probably assert that it is a \"climb.\" It gets worse; the trail is also becoming more and more dangerous each summer due to deterioration caused by many people perusing the trail. Because of this, some hikers have bypassed the trail and created new parallel tracks. This has caused portions of the trail to have several of furrows that encourage landslides and rock falls. You do not want your fear of heights kicking in in the wrong place at the wrong time. If scared of heights, there are other places to hike nearby with equally amazing views and well-maintained trails. However, if you insist, you will be rewarded with the most the most awesome panorama of the Reinefjorden and the staggering Lofoten Wall. Among the top coins, Litecoin has garnered all the attention with favorable news and an upcoming fork on Feb. 18.\n\nAt the same time, Western Union, one of the oldest money transfer companies, has confirmed it is testing Ripple’s Blockchain-based settlement system.\n\nGeorge Soros, who had earlier referred to cryptocurrencies as a “typical bubble” has invested in Overstock, through his investment fund. Overstock is one of the most pro-cryptocurrencies businesses, and its stock price has appreciated immensely as the cryptocurrencies skyrocketed.\n\nThis shows that the mainstream businesses are slowly recognizing the value of blockchain technology.\n\nHowever, a few old-timers are still skeptical of cryptocurrencies and the latest to voice his opinion is Berkshire Hathaway vice chairman Charlie Munger, who called Bitcoin “totally asinine.”\n\nNevertheless, as traders, if an asset class offers us an opportunity, we take it. In this case, the BTC/USD pair is facing selling pressure at the resistance line, as shown in the chart.\n\nIf the cryptocurrency holds the $9,500 levels and breaks out of the resistance line, it is likely to continue trading inside the ascending channel and reach the 50-day SMA, where traders can book profits on 50 percent of their positions and hold the rest with a trailing stop loss for a target of about $12,500.\n\nBitcoin is at risk of a bear attack as long as it trades inside the descending channel. Therefore, we want to reduce our risk. We recommend raising the stop loss on 50 percent positions to $8,600 and keeping the rest at the previously mentioned level of $7,800.    \n\nETH/USD\nEthereum triggered our buy levels on Feb.14. But, it also has failed to extend its pullback. And it’s not just that being in nature make us feel better. It can make us smarter, too.\n \nResearch shows that a walk or run in a natural setting changes the brain in ways that lessen anxiety and thwart transitory depression. Other studies show that being in nature enhances creativity. Though the direct causal mechanisms are still unknown, scientists speculate that when we are in nature we can’t help but feel a bit smaller and less significant. Activity in the parts of our brain associated with rumination and critical thinking diminishes, and the deeper and more imaginative parts of our brain have an opportunity to break through. \n \nIn addition to the psychological benefits, experiences in nature also help us to “turn off” our physiological stress response, in essence, putting us in a more restful state. One study even found that being in nature — and in particular, experiencing the emotion of awe — decreases something called IL-6, which is a bio-marker associated with inflammation.\n\nAlthough the last thing you may feel like doing when you are down is going outside, it’s one of the best things that you can do. My own personal experience is that forcing myself outside (and in particular, to exercise) helps me transition from feeling sorry for myself into a state where I feel stronger and more able to act.  \n 🇵🇰Some practical advice:🇵🇰\nbig to do, but when you return you’ll almost always feel better.\nThe same thing goes for when you get stuck trying to solve a problem. Six hundred years ago[when?], Venetians protected themselves from land-based attacks by diverting all the major rivers flowing into the lagoon and thus preventing sediment from filling the area around the city. This created an ever-deeper lagoon environment.\n\nIn 1604, to defray the cost of flood relief, Venice introduced what could be considered the first example of a 'stamp tax'. The services will allow passengers to travel from St Pancras station in central London direct to the Netherlands in three to four hours.\n\nMore than 4 million passengers a year fly between London and Amsterdam, making it one of Europe’s busiest air routes as the Netherlands grows in popularity as a key business and tourism hub.\n\nThe cross-Channel rail operator is set to challenge established airlines on the route, including British Airways, easyJet and Ryanair. It will target potential converts by saying a London-Amsterdam Eurostar journey emits 80% less carbon than the equivalent flight.  Plans for the service were first announced in September 2013 but the official start date has been subject to numerous delays while immigration and passport controls were agreed.\n\nThese issues mean direct services returning to London will not be in place until the end of next year. Passengers travelling from Amsterdam and Rotterdam will have to connect through Brussels for passport controls and security screening until the two governments complete an agreement allowing passport checks to be conducted in the Netherlands.\n\nNicolas Petrovic, the outgoing chief executive of Eurostar, said the Netherlands service heralded a new era in international high-speed rail. “With direct services from the UK to the Netherlands, France and Belgium, we are transforming the links between the UK and three of Europe’s top trading nations.”\n\nThe launch follows the completion of testing on the Dutch high-speed network and construction of Eurostar terminals in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The winning ticket isn’t necessarily the winning ticket for a happy life, which is exactly why the winner of January’s Powerball jackpot of $560 million wants to keep her name out of the public record. But New Hampshire, where the she lives, doesn’t allow winners to claim their winnings anonymously, and so in January she filed a lawsuit in an attempt to protect her identity.\n\nThe states have an interest in making lotto winners’ identities public to protect the integrity of the game—see, for example, the Iowa security chief who rigged the $16.5 million lottery (he had been a computer programmer in the state lottery office and evidently did something programmy with the numbers) and then tried to claim it anonymously. Only seven states—Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, and likely soon Georgia—allow winners to shield their identities. A handful of other states, like California and Wisconsin, entirely forbid winners to remain anonymous, “and then there are the states with gray areas,” says Jason Kurland, an attorney in East Meadow, New York, who has represented jackpot winners in the past. Depending on where you live, you can “form a trust and hide behind that. Your lawyer can be the face of the trust.”\n\nNow this is exactly what Jane Doe, in New Hampshire, did—but she had already signed her lottery ticket in her own name, and lottery officials have refused to let her white out her name and re-sign in the name of the trust.Most advisors instruct the winner to sign the ticket immediately so the ownership is indisputable—does the New Hampshire case mean that the lucky holder of the winning Powerball ticket shouldn’t sign the back of the ticket? Kurland notes that leaving the ticket unsigned, and risking someone (even your lawyer) stealing it, is a big risk. His solution? “Sign it, but sign it small. Then you can add trustees, or several trustees, and the name of the trust.” Once you’ve signed, find a trusts and estates attorney in your state to advise you.
