Uniquely, they have a bag in the throat that can swell when the gibbon makes a sound. With the help of this bag, the gibbon sound can be heard up to 5 km.\n\nHabitat, Distribution, and Conservation. Siamang (Symphalangus syndactylus) lives on the island of Sumatra Indonesia, Peninsular Malaysia, and Thailand. These long-armed primates inhabit tropical forest habitats. By IUCN Redlist, primates named latin Symphalangus syndactylus is categorized in \"endangered\" conservation status since 2008. CITES also incorporated these rare apes in the Appendix I list.
