      "body": "![price.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmeCS6jwezWPRkthja78v4eL5JuWsYmmkdKDfSMvYE2HMK/price.png)\n\nI've noticed when most people look at their cryptocurrency portfolios they view the price value of their Ethereum, Bitcoin and other altcoins mainly in US dollars. The fact that they are viewing the USD prices skews their perception of the value of their portfolio.\n\nLet's say you hold $100,000 US dollars worth of Bitcoin, Ethereum and Ripple. You check the price everyday and think the price is fluctuating rapidly between $80,000 to $120,000. By viewing the price of cryptocurrency this way you're not viewing it in the perspective of most traders. The reason behind this is the fact that most exchanges trade via Bitcoin prices rather than US dollar prices. \n\nInstead if you compare the price volatility of the price in Bitcoin, you'll find that the amount of cryptocurrency you hold fluctuates differently to the US dollar amount. This is important as by viewing the price in Bitcoins you're viewing the price of the other coins you hold(whether it be Ethereum, Ripple or any other) in the currency they are typically traded with. The exception to this rule being the fact that Ethereum itself is used to solely facilitate trading amongst decentralised exchanges and the price of it's native tokens(e.g Status, OmiseGo etc) are measured in Ether prices. \n\nA point to consider is the fact that Bitcoin prices rising and dropping currently affects the entire market. You'll notice if the Bitcoin price rises 10%, the entire market increases in price. However this rule is not set in stone as prices are subject to speculation and other factors within the market as previously when Bitcoin price rose, alt-coin price's dipped. It means that Bitcoin is still seen as a confidence signal in the cryptocurrency community and that the price of a significant number of alt coins is dependent on the price of Bitcoin. It means that Bitcoin is still seen as a confidence signal in the cryptocurrency community and that the price of a significant number of alt coins is dependent on the price of Bitcoin.       "body": "The last few weeks in cryptocurrency has been, to say the least a wild ride. There's been intense swings in price both upwards and downwards in the entire cryptocurrency community. For a lot of people this seemed to trigger a time of panic and they decided to move a lot of their funds into USDT causing the price to once again rise above 1USD.\n\nI think for most people watching the charts is not something you should do(However this is definitely not financial advice) if you're investing in cryptocurrency, ideally you should be purchasing a token with the intent to hold long term rather than flipping over an immediate sale. My reasons for this are mainly the fact that unless you're a professional trader, you don't want your life to be consumed entirely by wild price swing movements that occur on cryptocurrencies every day. It'll just bring more stress into your life, for my own personal investments I've opted against selling during these peaks and troughs for the simple reason that I truly believe the cryptocurrencies and the team behind them. If I wanted to trade, it would be better to do it full time and giving it 100% rather than flipping a coin and losing money over the short term because I haven't been able to follow price movements well enough. \n\nAnyways I'm interested to hear what others have to say on this topic as it is quite complex and there is definitely no right answer. So as always make up your own opinion and don't take anyone's word as the definitive answer and you honestly can never know.
