| title | Jimmy Fallon Pays Tearful Tribute to His Late Mother in Tonight Show Return |
| body | https://youtu.be/gjXrm2Q-te4 On Monday, Jimmy Fallon returned to The Tonight Show for his first show since his mother Gloria Fallon died on Nov. 4. The host opened the show with an emotional remembrance of his "biggest fan." "It's good to be back, guys," Fallon began. "As some of you know, my mother, Gloria, passed away recently. I canceled our shows last week to be with my family and make arrangements. She was the best audience, she was the one I was always trying to make laugh, and she was such a fan of the show and everything I did." "When we were little, my mom would walk us to this store, me and my sister, and she would squeeze my hand three times and say, 'I love you,' and I would squeeze back, 'I love you, too," Fallon said, demonstrating how they would squeeze on each word. "And last week I was in the hospital and I grabbed her and squeezed 'I love you.' I just knew we were in trouble, you know? I feel so grateful to be able to do this every single night and I'm very appreciative of all the support from all of you that my family received over the past week." "We're going to continue to work really hard to bring some light and some laughter into the world," he said. "Thank you for watching, thank you for helping me and my family recover from this loss. Mom, I'll never stop trying to make you laugh. I love you," he finished, squeezing his fist three times. |

| title | Tipu protests: Stones thrown at Karnataka govt buses |
| body | As the Karnataka government gears up to commemorate Tipu Jayanti on 10 November, sporadic incidents of violence is being reported. The state high court has struck down the petition to restrict celebrations this year. Stones were thrown at a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation in Madikeri against Tipu Jayanti celebrations. The District Administration in Kodagu has imposed Section 144 in the area ahead of Tipu Jayanti celebration, even as security has been tightened. A large posse of policemen have been deployed in the sensitive places. No procession will be allowed in the city that is related to Tipu Jayanti, except for the one organised by the state government, according to the police. It is said that History is written by those who are victorious. And it is also said that Lie or falsehood repeated 20 times, becomes truth. Modern age remembers only those who are talked more. For example, Indian Film music has many stalwart composers like Naushad, Shankar-Jaikishn, Madan Mohan, OP Nayyar, Roshan, Laxmi-Pyare, SD Burman, Chitalkar etc. But today's generation remembers only Pancham. Similarly, in the midst of Shakeel, Kaifi, Sahir, Shailendra, Rajinder Krishna, Anand Baxi, only Gulzar is remembered. Similarly in the rich culture of Kannadigas in all spheres whether Music, dance, literature (Don't have data but learnt that maximum number of Jnanpeeth awardees are Kannadigas), religion & social, science & technology. In spite of this, all are ignored, even Chenamma. But Jayanti is celebrated for Tipu. No doubt, he was great warrior, but it smack more of appeasement less of Karnataka pride. |

Hurst celebrates with a packed room of supporters at The Hyatt Place in Blacksburg. (Heather Rousseau/The Roanoke Times via AP) Newly elected state Rep. Chris Hurst said Wednesday that the wave of Democratic members elected to the House of Delegates allows more opportunities for gun laws in Virginia. Mr. Hurst is a former local news anchor whose fiancee, Alison Parker, was killed on live television along with her photographer Adam Ward in 2015. Both were shot during their broadcast. “I think it is a new day in Virginia, where we not only have a Democratic governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general, now for the next four years, again, but we have a possibility of being able to have a majority in the House of Delegates,” Mr. Hurst, Virginia Democrat, said on CNN. “So every single idea that could possibly address and reduce the number of people who are dying from homicide, suicide and accidental firearm deaths, I think now, is finally on the table.” Mr. Hurst said he wanted to stay in rural Virginia after Ms. Parker’s death, but couldn’t continue working at the station, so he decided to run for the delegate seat in the 12th district. “For so many people who have been impacted by gun violence across the commonwealth, even here in my district, they are, I think, just humbled, grateful and looking forward to the opportunity of passing legislation that will tangibly reduce deaths here in Virginia from firearms,” Mr. Hurst said. |

| title | NASA Astronaut Dick Gordon Has Died At Age 88 |
| body | In 1966, astronauts Dick Gordon (left) and Charles "Pete" Conrad trained for Gemini 11 in the Gulf of Mexico aboard the NASA Motor Vessel Retriever. NASA Astronaut Dick Gordon who flew to the moon but never got a chance to walk on the surface has died at his California home at age 88, according to NASA. NASA Administrator Robert Lightfoot said, "Dick will be fondly remembered as one of our nation's boldest flyers, a man who added to our own nation's capabilities by challenging his own. He will be missed." Gordon never thought he'd be a pilot — let alone an astronaut who would be just one of 24 people to fly to the moon. In fact, as a young boy, born during the Great Depression in 1929, he actually dreamed of being a priest or even a professional baseball player. It wasn't until he entered Navy flight school that he first touched an airplane. But he knew right then that flying high and going fast were his life's callings. "Once I found out what that airplane could do for me or I could do for it, it was love at first sight," he said. He received his wings as a Naval aviator in 1953 and eventually became a test pilot and won the Bendix Trophy Race from Los Angeles to New York in 1961 (setting a new transcontinental speed record of 2 hours and 47 minutes). By this point Gordon was all about going fast. NASA selected him in the third group of astronauts named in 1963 and he first flew to space aboard Gemini 11 in 1966. It was a demanding three-day mission. He and mission commander Pete Conrad had a whole series of important tasks to perfect as NASA continued its march to the moon for the upcoming Apollo program. Gordon had two spacewalks — at a time when NASA still hadn't mastered them. He ran into problems from the start. Gordon labored somewhat alarmingly outside the capsule — breathing heavily and sweating profusely. "How are you doing?," asked Conrad. "Tired, Pete." "Alright. Just rest. You've got plenty of time. You've only been out nine minutes." Astronaut Dick Gordon has died. He is shown being inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame in 2009 at Cape Canaveral, Fla. NASA/Jim Grossman Gordon's visor was fogging up as he struggled in the weightlessness (much like had happened in previous spacewalks). There were no handholds or places to pin his feet and he kept floating away from the spacecraft. "I equate the experience I had with trying to tie your shoelaces with one hand," he remembered during an interview with NPR in 2016, "It's an impossible task and we learn from that. I think we learn more from our failures and mistakes than we do with anything else." NASA made it to the moon by the end of the 1960s because it overcame and learned from obstacles like this one. Gordon flew again in 1969 on Apollo 12, the mission to land on the moon. He was the command module pilot and stayed behind circling the moon as Conrad and Alan Bean walked on the surface. For 42 hours, he was by himself and said he loved it. When he wasn't busy conducting experiments and taking pictures, he enjoyed the solitude — especially as he looked back at the planet: "Makes you think about the fragility of our Earth and the things we do to it to make you realize how fragile it is." Gordon was in line to command a later lunar mission, perhaps Apollo 18. But that flight was canceled. He was disappointed he never got to walk on the moon but proud of his NASA tenure. After he left the space agency, he became a vice president of the New Orleans Saints football team and later worked for several oil and gas companies. |

| title | iPhone X Users Complaining About The ‘Wasted Space’ Under The Keyboard |
| body | It’s been a week Apple launched the iPhone to the general public. While many are giving positive reviews on the device, others are still getting used to it. In the process of getting used to the iPhone X’s edge-to-edge display, some owners are complaining about the ‘Wasted Space’ below the iOS keyboard. Users took their complaints to Twitter and Reddit as well as MacRumors forums to discuss the scenario. It’s not wrong to say, but space does really exist under the iOS 11 keyboard for the iPhone X. So let’s dive in to see what some users have to say about it. iPhone X Owners Point At The ‘Wasted Space’ Below The iOS 11 Keyboard Some users have mentioned that the space exists because it is meant for users to easily perform the swipe up gesture to get to the Home screen. Moreover, some also said that the space is put in place due to ergonomics reasons as the keyboard situated down below would have been difficult to type on. Even though some users are still getting used to how the keyboard is situated on the device, the Globe or Emoji icon and the Dictation icon rest at the very bottom portion of the display, but there is a lot of space between them. Buzzfeed also shared that why didn’t Apple do more with the space like adding punctuation, frequently used emoji and more. It’s when the keyboard, in any app, is on screen (which, for me, is most of the time): There’s all this dead space on the bottom, where Apple could have put common punctuation, frequently used emojis, or literally anything, but instead left it blank. Other full-screen apps on other phones put navigation or other design elements in that area, and it doesn’t look crowded or crammed. It looks fine. It’s puzzling why Apple didn’t put something more useful down at the bottom, or why it didn’t add a row of numbers or emojis up top and push down the keyboard to make it more thumb-accessible. Alex Muench has created a mockup in which he has modified the iOS keyboard on the iPhone X. The ‘wasted space’ has been filled with emoji which is scrollable, much like what we have seen in the MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. |

"body": "\n\nIt’s been a week Apple launched the iPhone to the general public. So let’s dive in to see what some users have to say about it.\n\niPhone X Owners Point At The ‘Wasted Space’ Below The iOS 11 Keyboard\n\nSome users have mentioned that the space exists because it is meant for users to easily perform the swipe up gesture to get to the Home screen. Moreover, some also said that the space is put in place due to ergonomics reasons as the keyboard situated down below would have been difficult to type on.\n\nEven though some users are still getting used to how the keyboard is situated on the device, the Globe or Emoji icon and the Dictation icon rest at the very bottom portion of the display, but there is a lot of space between them. | title | The most beautiful true love story I have ever heard |
| body | The most beautiful true love story I have ever heard. This came from eavesdropping on 2 old men. I've never heard of such adoration and respect. I pray I can find something similar. (self.love) submitted 4 years ago .jpg) I was in the coffee shop on my college campus studying when two older men came in and sat down on the other side of the room. One of the men started talking about his wife, and when he asked the other man about his wife, this is what was said. "Man...I was 21 when I met her. I saw her from across the room and brother.....didn't nobody have to tell me who she was. I said 'there goes my wife', and the rest was history. That girl was something else, man. Every single day, I'd go and work for 12 hours and when I came home, she had dinner on the table waiting on me. After the kids were asleep, we were both so tired that we would go straight to bed just so we could hold each other. I was always content knowing that she was right there in my arms. I told her every night that as long as she was there, I was just fine. She was my queen, man. I told her that every day, she was the queen of my whole life. And my queen pushed me all the time to be the man I needed to be. She pushed me to seek God and follow Him and love Him with my whole heart, she pushed me to be a better daddy, and you can ask my little girls and they'll tell ya, we wouldn't be nowhere near where we are today if she didn't keep on making us better. Some folks just have a way of doing that, ya know? Some people just make you wanna be a better man. Well, one day, she started getting sick. I didn't worry too much at first, because everybody gets sick sometimes. But the doctors seemed to think it was something we should worry about. Well brother, they were right. She asked me if I would marry anyone else if she died. She worried about it. she couldn't imagine me being with another woman. I told her I could never have a second queen. But ya know what? She didn't believe me! That girl looked me in the eyes and said 'I know you better than that! You're the kind of man who needs a woman by his side. You couldn't be happy alone!' I looked her straight back in those big brown eyes and I said 'sugar, I don't need no woman in my life, I need you. You're the only one for me.' Well, after a year of fighting it, a lot had changed. There wasn't no more dinner on the table when I came home. Instead, I would work 12 hours a day, and I would come home. I would carry my wife out of bed and bring her to the table. I would cook dinner with her sitting there watching me, and we would just talk like nothing ever changed. Sometimes, we would sit and eat together and smile and just be happy that we could look at each other. On the bad days, I would feed her and she would cry and apologize, but I told her it was what I was there for. She was so sick, man. She was just so sick. She couldn't hardly do nothing. And she had to take medicine all the time, it was every 4 hours. So once we ate, I'd carry her back to bed and lay her down, and I would crawl in bed beside her and hold her just like I used to, and everything was ok. Just like I said before, it didn't matter what was going on, as long as I could hold her in my arms. But I could only lay with her for 4 hours at a time, because then I'd have to get up and bring her that medicine. But those 4 hours in between when I got to just be there beside her....man I wouldn't have traded that for nothing!" There was a long silence, a profound peace which none of us eavesdroppers dared disturb with our poorly disguised sniffles "But the body can only handle so much, ya know," the man continued. "It took 2 years of her being sick as a dog before it got the best of her. I saw it coming, and so did she. We both knew she wasn't coming back from it. But it still felt like it came outta nowhere. I mean....one day she's there in my arms, and the next day she's gone. It killed me at first, but it didn't take too long before I realized that she really was better off. She didn't have to take no more medicine, she didn't have to eat no more of my nasty cooking, all she had to worry about now was praising the Lord! Ya know what still gets me though? Man, I don't know what to do about her stuff. I mean...I can't get rid of it. All her clothes are still in the closet, I got pictures of her everywhere, and her side of the bed is just how she left it. I wanna believe she's still here. My daughters tell me I should get it out of there and fix the place up, but I spent my life in that house with her. It's still our home, as far as I'm concerned." Silence again overtook the room. None of us had ever heard a man speak with such absolute respect and admiration. It was obvious that he had truly loved and adored that woman, and it wasn't changing any time soon. The other old man broke the silence and said "Man, that had to be so hard, though. I mean...taking care of her like that and having to do everything for her." A smile crept across the old man's face. His entire face lit up and he said, "Brother, it was my privilege to be able to serve my queen for as long as I did." |

All her clothes are still in the closet, I got pictures of her everywhere, and her side of the bed is just how she left it. I wanna believe she's still here. My daughters tell me I should get it out of there and fix the place up, but I spent my life in that house with her. It's still our home, as far as I'm concerned.\"\nSilence again overtook the room. None of us had ever heard a man speak with such absolute respect and admiration. It was obvious that he had truly loved and adored that woman, and it wasn't changing any time soon.\nThe other old man broke the silence and said \"Man, that had to be so hard, though. I mean...taking care of her like that and having to do everything for her.\"\nA smile crept across the old man's face. His entire face lit up and he said,\n\"Brother, it was my privilege to be able to serve my queen for as long as I did.\"",

| title | NASA Astronaut Dick Gordon Has Died At Age 88 |
| body | In 1966, astronauts Dick Gordon (left) and Charles "Pete" Conrad trained for Gemini 11 in the Gulf of Mexico aboard the NASA Motor Vessel Retriever. |

He was the command module pilot and stayed behind circling the moon as Conrad and Alan Bean walked on the surface.\n\nFor 42 hours, he was by himself and said he loved it. When he wasn't busy conducting experiments and taking pictures, he enjoyed the solitude — especially as he looked back at the planet: \"Makes you think about the fragility of our Earth and the things we do to it to make you realize how fragile it is.\"\n\nGordon was in line to command a later lunar mission, perhaps Apollo 18. But that flight was canceled. He was disappointed he never got to walk on the moon but proud of his NASA tenure. After he left the space agency, he became a vice president of the New Orleans Saints football team and later worked for several oil and gas companies.",

| title | iPhone X Users Complaining About The ‘Wasted Space’ Under The Keyboard |
| body | It’s been a week Apple launched the iPhone to the general public. The ‘wasted space’ has been filled with emoji which is scrollable, much like what we have seen in the MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. |

| title | The most beautiful true love story I have ever heard |
| body | The most beautiful true love story I have ever heard.

Just like I said before, it didn't matter what was going on, as long as I could hold her in my arms. But I could only lay with her for 4 hours at a time, because then I'd have to get up and bring her that medicine. But those 4 hours in between when I got to just be there beside her....man I wouldn't have traded that for nothing!\"\nThere was a long silence, a profound peace which none of us eavesdroppers dared disturb with our poorly disguised sniffles\n\"But the body can only handle so much, ya know,\" the man continued. \"It took 2 years of her being sick as a dog before it got the best of her. I saw it coming, and so did she. We both knew she wasn't coming back from it. But it still felt like it came outta nowhere. I mean....one day she's there in my arms, and the next day she's gone. It killed me at first, but it didn't take too long before I realized that she really was better off. She didn't have to take no more medicine, she didn't have to eat no more of my nasty cooking, all she had to worry about now was praising the Lord!\nYa know what still gets me though? Man, I don't know what to do about her stuff. I mean...I can't get rid of it. All her clothes are still in the closet, I got pictures of her everywhere, and her side of the bed is just how she left it. I wanna believe she's still here. My daughters tell me I should get it out of there and fix the place up, but I spent my life in that house with her. His entire face lit up and he said,\n\"Brother, it was my privilege to be able to serve my queen for as long as I did.\"",

| title | What You’ll See in the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s Billion-Dollar Art Collection |
| body | The unconventional museum has created one of the world’s great gatherings of art in the space of a decade. A decade ago Abu Dhabi, the tiny, seaside capital of the UAE announced its partnership with the Louvre Museum in Paris. The announcement of the Louvre Abu Dhabi, dubbed “a universal museum in the Arab World,” was met with raised eyebrows—various news reports pegged the total fees paid to the Louvre in Paris at about $1 billion. (Representatives for the Louvre Abu Dhabi declined to comment on any dollar figures.) And then… there was nothing. The museum was scheduled to open in 2012, with a massive, 260,000 square foot compound designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel, but construction deadlines were pushed back until it was announced that it would absolutely, definitely, 100 percent be open in mid November of 2017. While the art world waited, representatives of the Louvre Abu Dhabi were busy. The exterior of the Louvre Abu Dhabi.Courtesy of the Louvre Abu Dhabi The organization, which is funded by the Abu Dhabi Department of Cultural and Tourism and headed by Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, the chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, amassed a collection of more than 600 artworks for its permanent collection, and in the process became one of the most aggressive buyers on the global art market circuit in the last decade. .jpg) Attributed to Orazio Scoppa, Mother-of-pearl ewer, Gujarat, India, c. 1640. Photographer: Agence Photo F, courtesy of the Louvre Abu Dhabi Because the permanent collection (300 works of which will be on view starting on November 11th, along with more than 300 works on loan from French museums) has the open-ended mission to display “works of historical, cultural, and sociological significance from different time and civilizations”), museum representatives were free to buy virtually anything that caught their eye. .jpg) Octogonal box, Asia, 8th century AD.Photographer: Thierry Ollivier, courtesy of the Louvre Abu Dhabi The result is, on one level, a hodgepodge of expensive objets d’art and paintings spread across 23 permanent galleries in the museum’s complex. On another level, it’s a remarkable cross section of the secondary art market over the last decade. Some of the works have already been on view. By 2014, the Louvre Abu Dhabi had amassed enough that it was able to put on a preview show of sorts at the Louvre in Paris, called “Birth of a Museum.” Other objects, including some included in this article, are now being seen for the first time. Modern and Contemporary Many of the modern works in the permanent collection seem to have been acquired during 2008 and 2009, when the market, rocked by the global recession, was a profound buyer’s market. .jpg) Piet Mondrian, Composition with Blue, Red, Yellow and Black, 1922.Photographer: Thierry Ollivier, Mondrian/Holtzman Trust, courtesy of the Louvre Abu Dhabi There’s a 3.75 foot high work by the Dutch painter Piet Mondrian, Composition with Blue, Red, Yellow, and Black, which the lot notes indicate was acquired in 2009. (Six years later another, smaller Mondrian from the same period sold for $50.6 million at Christie’s New York.) .jpg) Gustave Caillebotte, Game of Bezique, 1880.Photographer: Agence Photo F, courtesy of the Louvre Abu Dhabi Similarly, a painting by the Impressionist Gustave Caillebotte, Game of Bezique, which was painted in 1880, was also purchased by the museum in 2009, as was Eduoard Manet’s The Gypsy, painted between 1862 and 1867. A year later, the museum scored a coup by acquiring a work by Paul Gauguin’s Children Wrestling from 1888 (also known as Breton Boys Wrestling). In 2012, another Gauguin painting of a Breton subject, Petit Breton A L’Oie, painted in 1889, sold for $10 million at Sotheby’s New York. Over the years, as its collecting intensified, the museum branched out, with occasionally mixed results. .jpg) René Magritte, The Subjugated Reader, 1928.hotographer: Agence Photo F, ADAGP, Paris, courtesy of the Louvre Abu Dhabi Its 1928 painting by the surrealist painter René Magritte, The Subjugated Reader, isn’t a prime representation of Magritte’s style (a work of roughly the same size by the artist, which he painted in the same year, sold for $7.2 million at Christie’s London in 2012), nor is a blue and white series of nine, eight and a half foot-high panels by Cy Twombly, which the artist painted three years before his death in 2008. (Currently, the market seems to value scale in Twombly’s work rather than chronology: At Christie’s New York next week, one painting by Twombly, painted in 1957, is estimated to sell for $20 million; another one, which is more than twice its size but painted in 2005, has a $40 million estimate.) .jpg) Bracelet with Lion Heads, 8th-th century BCE.Thierry Ollivier, courtesy of the Louvre Abu Dhabi And if it’s unclear how a gorgeous red Chinese-lacquer French commode from 1753 might highlight the museum’s stated aim to “highlight universal themes and common influences,” or if the connection between Giovanni Bellini’s Mother and Child (1480- 1485) and an Egyptian sarcophagus from the 10th century BCE is tenuous, not to fear: There’s been a strong curatorial attempt to weave all of these disparate objects together. .jpg) Giovanni Bellini, Madonna and Child, between 1480 and 1485.Photographer: Thierry Ollivier, courtesy of the Louvre Abu Dhabi The galleries have been arranged both chronologically and thematically, so in the museum’s “Great Vestibule,” for instance, visitors are introduced to maternity and funerary rituals, while a room dedicated to “universal religions” includes a Gothic bible, a leaf from the magnificent c. 9th century Blue Quaran, and a Torah. The building, a gleaming white collection of 55 individual buildings underneath a massive, 590 foot-wide dome, is intended to be a destination in itself. Set on the long-stalled development project known as Saadiyat Island, the “museum city” that comprises the Louvre Abu Dhabi overlooks the water and includes museum galleries, temporary exhibition spaces, a two-story children’s museum, a restaurant, cinema, and cafe. .jpg) Another loan from the Louvre in Paris: Leonardo da Vinci, Woman Portrait, also called La Belle Ferronnière, 1495- 1499. Photographer: T. Clot/Musée du Louvre, C2RMF The temporary exhibitions, with loans from the Louvre and elsewhere, will be changed four times a year. The inaugural show, which includes masterpieces by Manet, Monet, Matisse, and Leonardo da Vinci, focuses on the creation of the Louvre during the 18th century. .jpg) On loan from the Musée d’Orsay:Vincent Van Gogh’s Self Portrait, 1887. Photographer: Patrice Schmidt As a final flourish, the Louvre Abu Dhabi has commissioned several permanent outdoor works by art market stars of today. The Arte Povera artist Giuseppe Penone, who’s co-represented by the two powerhouse galleries Gagosian and Marian Goodman, has made an installation which includes a “vast bronze tree,” and the artist Jenny Holzer, who’s represented by the New York gallery Cheim & Read, has made three engraved stone walls, into which various historical texts are carved. .jpg) On loan from the Louvre: King Ramesses II, 1279 - 1213 B.C.E. (19th dynasty), found at Tanis.Photographer: Christian Décamps/Musée du Louvre, dist. RMN All of this— the billions of dollars, the colossal building effort, and massive acquisition program— are part of what could be considered a 25 year-long attempt by cities around the globe to recreate the “Bilbao Effect.” It’s a term that was used to describe the restorative impact brought about by Frank Gehry’s famous Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, and it’s a premise (and promise) that’s since proved seductive to governments large and small. Whether it will have a similar impact remains to be seen but for now, all we know is that the world has been gifted with a new museum. That alone is cause for celebration. |
