There are grams, eighths, quarters, ounces, and the list keeps going. All of this may seem overwhelming at first, but marijuana weight conversions are actually pretty simple.\n<p></p>\nKnowing the weight conversions is important, but you’ll need a scale to know exactly what amount you have. You can pick up a digital scale on Amazon for less than $10. \n<p></p>\nGrams\n<p></p>\nGrams are typically the smallest amount of weed that you would buy. Some people may sell you less; however, a gram is pretty standard if you’re looking to make a small purchase.\n<p></p>\nWhat exactly is a gram? Technically a gram is “the absolute weight of a volume of pure water equal to the cube of the hundredth part of a metre, and at the temperature of melting ice.” Please do not remember that last sentence.\n<p></p>\nDepending on your tolerance, a gram may last you a few smoke sessions. Alternatively, you can roll a gram into one blunt and blast off to the moon.\n<p></p>\nEighths\n<p></p>\nAn eighth = 3.5 grams.\n<p></p>\nEighths are great for people who smoke somewhat regularly. An eighth refers to 1/8 of an ounce. You will almost always get a better price if you buy an eighth instead of a gram. In fact, price cuts are often given at each of the intervals discussed here.\n<p></p>\nSome people will also sell half-eighths, which should really be called a sixteenth. It’s 1.75 grams.\n<p></p>\nQuarter\n<p></p>\nA quarter = 2 eighths = 7 grams\n<p></p>\nA quarter is often referred to as a ‘quad’. A quarter is 1/4 of an ounce. If you are buying a quarter then you are probably preparing to get pretty stoney. I commend this decision. Even if you don’t smoke every day, buying a quarter will keep you from having to re-up all the time.\n<p></p>\nHalf\n<p></p>\nA half = 2 quarters = 4 eighths = 14 grams\n<p></p>\nA half refers to 1/2 of an ounce. See, I told you – these conversions really aren’t that tricky. At this point, you’re throwing a party, and I want to be there.\n<p></p>\nOunce\n<p></p>\nAn ounce = 4 quarters = 8 eighths = 28 grams\n<p></p>\nAn ounce is often referred to as an O. It’s hard to describe the feeling of having an ounce of weed to yourself. The word ‘elated’ is pretty good, but still doesn’t do it justice.\n<p></p>\nPound\n<p></p>\nA pound = 16 ounces = 64 quarters = 128 eighths = 448 grams\n<p></p>\nLet’s be honest. If you’re looking to buy this much weight then you’re probably not smoking it all yourself (unless Snoop is reading this). At this point you probably should have already figured out these conversions.\n<p></p>\nYou can also buy quarter pounds, half-pounds, etc. Again, by this point you should have this thing figured out.\n<p></p>\nKilo\n<p></p>\nIf you’re using the metric system (we all should be, but what can you do, right?) you’re going to be using kilos, or kilograms.\n<p></p>\nA kilogram = 1000 grams\n<p></p>\nLike I mentioned earlier, if you’re new to this, and aren’t familiar with what each amount should look like then I highly recommend picking up a digital scale. There are a few visual guides, but different buds have different densities so the same weight doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the same volume.\n<p></p>\nDimes, Nickels, and Dubs\n<p></p>\nYou’ll notice I didn’t cover these terms with the rest. This is because these terms do not refer to weight. Instead, they refer to dollar amounts – $10, $5, and $20 respectively.       "body": "Blockchain technology has the potential to change the world as much as the internet, but it faces legal challenges. The technology is already being adapted by banks, so we must work to understand its uses, benefits, and drawbacks. \n<p></p>\nWhat is Blockchain?\n<p></p>\nBlockchain is a decentralised network in which each ‘block’ represents a piece of information as computer code. When a transaction takes place, it is recorded on a completely transparent public ledger (database) and chained to every previous transaction that the piece of data is involved in using a digital signature.\n<p></p>\nThe system cuts out middlemen and bureaucracy, providing a trust-based system of exchange. Rachel O’Dwyer, of Trinity College Dublin, says in an essay, “the blockchain is presented as an algorithmic tool to foster trust in the absence of things like social capital, physical colocation, or trusted third-party management.”\n<p></p>\nThe most famous use of the system is to support the cryptocurrency Bitcoin, which has become notorious for its use on the darkweb, but which has the potential to act as a currency to buy anything. Money laundering and acquiring digital assets are hard, because in digital banking an individual has to go through a middleman and there are meetings, intimacy, or exchange between parties who know each other. Because blockchain exchange is conducted under pseudonyms, the parties do not know each other, but more importantly can claim that they do not. As most countries operate on a principle of Know Your Customer, in a financial system in which the customer is not validated or ratified, illegal activity becomes easier.\n<p></p>\nSmart contracts may be long-term detrimental. Smart contracts use the blockchain to decrease transactional friction (the economic inefficiency caused by processing a transaction) and provide a way for individuals to exchange without the middleman. However, the contracts are often too simple to cater for fiscal or legal complexities, meaning that if a problem arises they may be insufficient to help resolve it.\n<p></p>\nLinked to the above point is that the legal system will take time to adapt to evidence derived from blockchain. Even if contracts are complex enough, the legislative system and lawyers need time to understand and handle the evidence and how it can be used. However, blockchain is already fairly widespread in its use, meaning that over the next few years we could see incorrect legal decisions because of misinformation.\n<p></p>\nWhat are the Benefits?\n<p></p>\nBlockchain has the potential to decrease bureaucracy, democratize data, decrease risk, decentralize banking, and make asset management far easier.\n<p></p>\nSpecific uses for it include showing where your tax money is being spent, ensuring food and raw materials are ethically sourced, giving citizens in developing countries the capability to challenge unfair land seizure. Imogen Heap is proposing using it to save the music industry and ensure artists receive a fair deal to counter the mercenary approach of Spotify; the World Food Program is using it to feed the world’s poorest families.\n<p></p>\nIts rise or fall depends entirely on how it is legislated, and this is the tension at the heart of it. This is a system that is being used by both the world’s biggest banks and to buy drugs online, that is precisely designed to be decentralized and uncontrolled, so how can we ensure it is used for good and not abused? It has been the top performing currency every year since 2010 (besides 2014). By the summer, it will be accepted at more than 260,000 stores in Japan, since it is officially legal tender in the country. The reason Bitcoin is so successful is also the reason it could fail. It has the ability to swing and shift extremely quickly: we need only look at when it dropped 15% in a matter of minutes in response to the Winklevoss Twin’s ETF verdict. One key characteristic of a successful currency, rather than its worth as an asset, is stability, which Bitcoin has not yet achieved.\n\nSecond, it will need to increase its transaction speed. In comparison with payment processors like Visa, the number of transactions Bitcoin can process is tiny: around 7 compared to thousands. This is because of each transaction has to be validated and verified by an individual due to it being part of a blockchain. And, even though it has the potential to stretch to 27, unless this value is increased there will forever be a serious limitation to how much bitcoin can grow.\n\nThird, these exciting new figures may be artificially caused by an indirect centralization (centralization not through the legal process, but by market means — similar to a hostile takeover of a company). While Bitcoin is an uncentralized currency, if an individual miner (or collection of miners) take control of most of the mining then they are able to abuse the majority loophole, created as a democratic foundation of the currency.       "body": "Physicists at the University of Houston have discovered a low-cost, efficient, and easily available catalyst that can split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The catalyst is far more efficient than other options that have previously been employed, and because it is grown from ferrous metaphosphate on a conductive nickel foam platform, it is both more durable and cheaper to produce.\n\n“Cost-wise, it is much lower and performance-wise, much better,” lead author and Anderson professor of physics Zhifeng Ren, M.D. told the University of Houston News. “Some catalysts are outstanding but are only stable for one or two hours. That’s no use.”\n\nBreaking water down into its components — oxygen and hydrogen — is theoretically simple, but practically complex. The process demands two separate reactions, each with its own electrode; one reaction evolves hydrogen, and one evolves oxygen. While hydrogen is the component that is sought after in this process, it can’t be attained without producing oxygen — and that’s the issue. Efficient oxygen catalysts, unlike the readily available hydrogen catalysts, are hard to find, and that’s where this discovery comes into play.\n\nThe evolution of oxygen usually depends upon electrocatalysts that use expensive “noble metals” such as ruthenium, platinum, or iridium. “In this work, we discovered a highly active and stable electrocatalyst based on earth-abundant elements, which even outperforms the noble metal based ones,” Principal investigator Shuo Chen told the UH News. “Our discovery may lead to a more economic approach for hydrogen production from water electrolysis.”\n\nhttps://futurism.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/water-splitting.png \n\n\nClean Energy Options\n\nEither electric current or photocatalysis can trigger water splitting. Hydrogen, when produced, is one of the best renewable energy sources. It is stored easily, unlike solar or wind power, and, using solar to produce hydrogen eliminates the carbon footprint left by producing hydrogen through traditional methods like coal gasification or steam methane reforming.\n\n“Hydrogen is the cleanest primary energy source we have on earth,” Texas Center for Superconductivity chief scientist Paul C.       "body": "In March, Elon Musk announced his gambit to merge human and machine with a Brain Computer Interface (BCI) called Neuralink. \n\n<iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZrGPuUQsDjo\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen></iframe>\n\n\nThis technology would take the form of an injectable “neural lace” — composed of a mesh of electrodes — that would augment the human brain, adding another layer to the cortex and limbic system that is capable of communicating with a computer (essentially creating cyborgs). This, hypothetically, creates an upgradable, updatable interface that could be applied in countless ways. Some of these include:\n\nControlling Computers With Your Mind\n\nBrains and technology both operate using the same vectors: electricity and data. Musk’s Neural Lace would be a system that provides a way for them to communicate directly with each other. To borrow a simile from Phillip Alvelda, the Neural Engineering System Design (NESD) program manager (another nascent BCI), “Today’s best brain-computer interface systems are like two supercomputers trying to talk to each other using an old 300-baud modem […] Imagine what will become possible when we upgrade our tools.” Applications could stretch from the remote operation of technology to the completely hands free and voiceless operation of computers. Researchers in Korea have already used a BCI to control turtles.\n\nUpdating Your Mind or Communicating With Someone Else’s\n\nElon Musk’s idea could both initiate brain activity and monitor it. The technology does not necessarily have to be a one-way communication stream, it is capable of both sending messages and creating information in the brain. The high-bandwidth interface could allow you to wirelessly transmit information to the cloud, to computers, or even directly to the brains of other people with a similar interface in their head. There is also the possibility of downloading content to augment your consciousness: think Neo learning kung-fu in the Matrix. While initial tests to improve intelligence haven’t been too successful, if brains and computers speak the same language, then computers can impart information to the brain. The technology is currently being used to allow paralyzed people to communicate, but its uses could extend far beyond that.\n\nBionic Limbs That Feel Like Real Limbs\n\nAs part of this two-way communication stream, robotic arms could communicate fleshy messages by being connected to existing nerve structures. Rather than making the brain learn how to use a new part of the nervous system, robotic limbs could be quickly and easily integrated into the system. This has the potential to revolutionize prosthetic limbs for the disabled, but may also encourage people to rid themselves of their biological arms in favour of mechanical super limbs. Who knows!\n\nEmotionally Aware Technology\n\nAs computers and brains would essentially be speaking the same language, emotions could be read as data using electrodes. This would shift technology’s perception of humans from basic recognition to complex understanding. Robot helpers would be able to adapt to your emotional state rather than just responding to commands. Photos and videos could also be implanted with emotional metadata, meaning that one could feel what it would be like to be in any given scenario, rather than just trying to imagine it.\n\nNext Generation Adaptable Gaming\n\nOne issue with the lifespan of games is repetition; people become accustomed, know what to expect, or are limited by the programmed narrative. A BCI could improve this situation by having games respond to what your brain is feeling, remaining one step ahead and endlessly diverse. This would be most applicable to the horror genre, in which enemies could come at you when and where you least expect it, providing constant shocks, jumps, and thrills.
