Surely some mistake?\nA\nAwards ceremony judging panels are often accused of being pale, male and stale, an ageing cabal out of touch with contemporary culture.\n\nIt’s a brickbat that has been hurled at the Grammy voting panel for some time. In 2018, the only one of its best album nominees not to play one of their songs live was the only woman up for the prize – Lorde. The same year, U2 were featured no less than three times during the broadcast, despite not even being up for an award. The awards consistently overlooked dance music, only creating a category for it in 1998, a decade since the heyday of dance culture. And the less said about the Grammy’s arm’s length relationship with hip-hop the better.\n\nThe awards’ sometimes dizzying list of categories – which currently stands at 78, having been cut from 109 in 2012 – means artists in all sorts of less high-profile genres (jazz, comedy, children’s) get their nods alongside the usual red-carpet favourites. For instance, Elmo the Muppet has won a Grammy three times – for Best Musical Album for Children in 1998 (Elmopalooza!), 1999 (The Adventures Of Elmo In Grouchland), and 2001 (Elmo And The Orchestra).\n\nBut at the heart of the Grammy conundrum is often a dilemma – whether to recognise the uncompromisingly artistic, or plump for the safer bet. No category bears that out better than Album of the Year. This time round, the panel seems to have done a decent job, balancing the pop likes of Arianna Grande and Billie Eilish with critical darlings such as Bon Iver and Lana Del Ray. But BBC Music looks at some of the times the Grammy panel got it noticeably wrong. AC/DC reconvened after the death of their charismatic frontman Bon Scott with an emphatic call to arms. This memorial to Scott – encrypted on the leather lungs of new frontman Brian Johnson – is arguably the most popular hard rock album in history. The Clash, meantime, negotiated the revolution of punk mostly intact, and cut their masterwork, a double album which cemented their place in rock’s pantheon – and coining a timeless anthem that will still be hummed long after London is swallowed by the Thames.\n\nSo what did the jury crown?       "body": "Serial killer Lee Chun-jae apologized to his victims during a court hearing Monday, as well as to those who were targeted for investigation for the murders and rapes he committed.\n\nAppearing as a witness at a court in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, Lee also admitted that he had killed 14 women and raped nine others throughout the 1980s and 1990s.\n\nHe was brought in as a witness at a retrial hearing for Yoon Sung-yeo, who was wrongfully convicted of raping and murdering a 13-year-old girl in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, in 1988. Lee said he, not Yoon, had killed the girl.\n\n“I wish everything to return to as it was and wish (Yoon’s life) to be healthier and happier,” Lee said on the witness stand. “What I have done cannot be undone, and I will live a life repenting and asking forgiveness to everyone.”\n\nYoon, despite denying any involvement in the case, was charged with the murder of the girl in 1988 and later convicted.       "body": "Students are back in school in most parts of South Korea -- just as winter approaches and cases climb again. Sunday’s data showed 86 students had been diagnosed with COVID-19 as of Friday, since schools opened again in mid-October.\n\nThe latest school outbreak was at an arts high school in Jongno, central Seoul, where 16 cases have been identified among students and teachers so far. Public health authorities believe the transmission took place at a band practice.\n\nEarlier the same week, 36 cases were traced to a private ballet school in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province. All of the diagnosed students were second to fifth graders. School authorities said students as well as instructors had been wearing face masks during and between classes.\n\nOutbreaks at schools put 702 students in quarantine as of Thursday, of whom 294 were high school students. This is roughly triple the figure of high schoolers on the first day in-person classes opened again on Oct. 19, which was 105. On a daily average, 9.2 students tested positive for the coronavirus between Oct. 22 and 29. At least 75 schools nationwide have closed down over the period following positive cases among students, faculty or staff.\n\nThe Ministry of Education’s tally last week showed over 690 students and 135 faculty members have come down with the virus since May, when in-person learning resumed after the initial wave of cases.\n\nWorries are mounting over growing cases linked to schools.\n\nShin Hae-yeong, 37, a college counselor at a high school in northern Seoul’s Nowon said, “Whenever there is a suspected sick student, the whole school goes into sort of an emergency mode.”\n\nShe said the school runs temperature checks at least twice a day. “The rule for our school is students showing even very mild degrees of fever are sent back home,” she said. While there is still confusion, kids are well adjusted after months of new classroom rules dictated by the coronavirus. “Most kids have gotten used to having face masks on by now.”\n\nBut high school seniors -- who are set to sit for the college entrance exam in about a month -- have it harder, she said.\n\n“Some early-action candidates can’t stay put. They need to move around for interviews and other assignments. So we worry there might be potential risks these students might be exposed over the course of the application process,” she said.\n\nMeanwhile, public health authorities on Sunday reported a third official case of the multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children, or MIS-C, which is speculated to be a rare complication of COVID-19.       "body": "Gazprombank Approved to Offer Bitcoin Services\nGazprombank (Switzerland) Ltd. announced Thursday that it has received authorization from the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) to provide cryptocurrency services. The Zurich-based bank is wholly owned by Russian Gazprombank. The parent company is the third-largest bank in Russia as well as the third-largest in Central and Eastern Europe in terms of equity, according to the bank’s website.\n\nA fully licensed Swiss financial institution, Gazprombank (Switzerland) provides traditional banking products and services to its corporate and institutional customers.\n\nWith the new approval, the bank will begin offering its clients “custody of cryptocurrencies as well as trading between crypto and fiat currencies.” The bank added that initially it will provide these services to a limited number of selected clients, elaborating:\n\nThe new services will include institutional-grade storage solutions and the purchase and sale of bitcoin. The lines to sign digital entry logs were long, raising worries over possible transmissions despite people wearing anti-virus masks.\n\nMost bars were full at around 9 p.m., with streets getting crowded with people taking photos and queuing to get into bars.\n\nPartygoers seemed excited for the annual event.\n\n\"I've been waiting for Halloween so much. There aren't many festivals you can enjoy on the street with strangers,\" a 22-year-old wearing a costume said, \"COVID-19 is scary but we can be careful and wear masks.\"\n\nBut some, such as shop owners and residents, appeared vigilant against the infectious virus.\n\n\"It seems there are three to four times more people than usual,\" said a 30-year-old resident surnamed Park. \"If infections against spread in Itaewon, the local economy will collapse and residents will feel tense walking outside.\"\n\nItaewon was at the center of a mass transmission in May after infections spread at nightclubs during a holiday weekend.\n\n\"I considered closing but decided to open since it has been really tough. According to Lee, the group had a natural connection.\n\n\"We were all having so much fun, and I think that shows in the film,\" he said.\n\n\"My experience with Jo and Lim was amazing. When I first read lines with them, something funny happened and we all just started laughing. It was a blessing to just laugh on camera and off camera.\"\n\nLee's many scenes with Shin, who plays elite curator Yoon in the film, were omitted during post-production, considering the overall flow of the story.\n\n\"It's unclear whether the two really have feelings for each other or are simply playing mind games,\" Lee said. \"But I think they are similar in a sense that they use each other to gain what they want. Van Fleet Award from the Korea Society, a US-based nonprofit organization.       "body": "Mnet announced Tuesday that rapper Owen of MKIT Rain Records is stepping down from the rap competition program “Show Me the Money,” following a local media report that he and four other rappers were found to have used marijuana last year.\n\nThe local Channel A News reported Monday that the police investigated MKIT Rain Records and found all five rappers of the label had used marijuana sometime in August and September last year at the company’s office. The five rappers were Nafla, Loopy, Bloo, Owen and Young West.
