      "body": "THE RIPPLE price soared again today, with XRP jumping up by more than 20 per cent since this time on Thursday. But why is Ripple rising again today?\nAfter languishing at $1.72pm at 2pm on Thursday January 11, Ripple’s XRP cryptocurrency has now bounced back to about $2.05. \n\nIt’s market capitalisation now sits at nearly £59billion ($80billion), though this is still down from its all time high of £108billion ($147.5billion) at the start of this month.\n\nGraphs from CoinMarketCap show Ripple’s price spiked suddenly just after 2pm yesterday, surging from $1.72 to $2.25 in an hour. \n\nIts price has since dipped back down to just over the $2 mark.\n\nWhy is Ripple rising today? \nXRP’s dramatic upturn coincided with Thursday's announcement that Ripple has partnered with financial services giant MoneyGram. \n\nRipple CEO Brad Garlinghouse tweeted: “I’m pleased to be able to share MoneyGram has partnered with Ripple to use $XRP in their payment flows.”\n\nMr Garlinghouse added that the deal was just “one step in a marathon ahead” in Ripple’s goal to make cross-border payments quicker and easier. \n\nHe said: “The payments problem doesn’t just affect banks, it also affects companies like MoneyGram, which help people get money to the ones they care about.” \n\n“By using a digital asset like XRP that settles in three seconds or less, our clients can move money as quickly as information.”\n\nThe announcement seems to have boosted confidence and put Ripple’s stock price back on track - at least for the time being.\n\n\nCryptocurrency investor and influencer Oscar Isaacs said that Ripple is now “gaining momentum” and should rise above $3 again. \n\nHe told Forbes: “Ripple has over the past month been gaining mainstream attention from the press and investors a like, not to mention numerous Reddit sub threads, coin aggregation sites and Telegram groups, which has contributed to the strong price action.\" \n\nHe added: \"Every cryptocurrency investor and hedge fund I have spoken to have asked me about Ripple's potential in the market.\"  \n\nDespite criticism from some crypto commentators, Ripple hopes to continue forging new partnerships with established financial services.\n\nBitBull Capital boss Joe DiPasquale predicts that XRP will continue to perform well on the market if the deals keep on coming. \n\n\"MoneyGram is the latest example of Ripple's masterful cadence of announcements of deals with large companies,\" he told Forbes.\n\n\"Every time Ripple announces a partnership, we see an increase in value.\" \n![ripple-price-news-why-XRP-rising-cryptocurrency-1192122.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmWH9mCPjSa59nhZLgjB4s1EQ4HqtnKjXaVkdv8FjaYrVg/ripple-price-news-why-XRP-rising-cryptocurrency-1192122.jpg)\n\nHe added: \"If Ripple's strong partnerships continue, I expect its value to continue to increase.” \n\nAfter the deal was announced, MoneyGram CEO Alex Holmes said: “Ripple is at the forefront of blockchain technology and we look forward to piloting xRapid.\n\n“We’re hopeful it will increase efficiency and improve services to MoneyGram’s customers.”",

      "body": "In almost a rerun of the Robinson Street skeleton incident of 2015, police has stumbled upon a semi-decomposed body of an octogenarian man guarded by his wife at their flat in south Kolkata's Haridevpur area.\n\nActing on a call from neighbours of Amar Sanyal, police broke open the doors of his apartment last night to find the semi-decomposed body of Sanyal (82) lying on a bed with his wife Hasirani Debi (69) sitting beside it, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said today.\n\nNeighbours informed us after nobody opened the door of the apartment when they found obnoxious smell coming out of the residence of the childless couple, he said.\n\n\"The old man seems to have died at least four days back. The body has turned black and it was showing signs of decomposing,\" a senior officer of the local police station said.\n\nAccording to him, the woman, was not in the best of her mental health and was not allowing the police to examine the semi-decomposed body of her husband.\n\n\"It seemed that the old man died a natural death but his wife failed to understand that and failed to inform anybody and was guarding the body. We have sent the body for post mortem to be sure about the cause of his death,\" the officer said.\n\nA former Central government employee, Amar Sanyal and his wife was known in the locality for their gentle nature.\n\n\"They were seen busy mostly with their pujas and religious chanting. They rarely used to mix up with people and chose to keep indoors,\" a neighbour said.\n\nIn June 2015, police recovered the charred body of an elderly man, skeletons of his 47-year-old daughter and two pet dogs with his son son Partha De guarding them from his residence on Robinson Street in the city's posh Park Street area.",

      "body": "Students could soon be banned from using cellphones in French schools, in a move the government says is necessary to protect public health amid fears over the devices' long-term effects on mental development.\n\nUnder current French law, students cannot use their phones in class but schools have the power to decide if they can use them at break times.\n\nBut that may change in September, as the Ministry of Education examines how to implement a campaign pledge by President Emmanuel Macron to ban cellphones from school premises entirely.\n\nThe minister, Jean-Michel Blanquer, said the measure would help tackle what he called a “public health problem.\"\n\n‘No abuse is tolerated’\nJerome, a middle school teacher in France's southwest Occitanie region, said a near-complete ban on cellphones was already in place for the 11- to 15-year-old students at his school. He spoke to NBC News on condition that only his first name be used because of French rules that restrict teachers from speaking to the media.\n\nChildren are allowed to bring electronic devices to school but they must be on \"airplane mode\" and confined to their bags, he said. Any transgression leads to the device’s confiscation, so there are few rule breakers.\n\n“We trust them, but no abuse is tolerated,” Jerome explained. “And they respect the rule without grumbling.”\n\nHe said that he knows another school that allows students to use their phones at recess, but sometimes fights break out after things are posted on social media.\n\n“Contrary to our students who play, run and have fun at recess, students there appear much calmer, but they are just glued to their phones,” he said.\n\nA global issue\nConcern over the long-term impact of cellphone use on young people has received increased attention recently, particularly after a leading activist investor and a pension fund published a letter urging Apple to take steps to curb how addictive iPhones are to children. The motivation for the letter wasn’t entirely benign — the investors were urging Apple to solve the problem before one of its competitors does.\n\nBut it still raised alarm over an issue many teachers and parents all over the world are grappling with. Some embrace cellphone use as part of the school curriculum, while others see it as a distraction.\n\nCanada and Belgium have “Bring Your Own Device” policies that allow students to use laptops, tablets and phones in the classroom, believing it teaches them to use the devices responsibly.\n\nItaly overturned its own ban on phones in school in 2016 and Education Minister Valeria Fedeli has said that smartphones \"are an extraordinary tool to facilitate learning.”\n\nIn the German state of Bavaria, a ban was put in place on the use of phones on school grounds in 2006 after police found pornography and violent images on devices seized from students in two different towns. But that ban is being challenged and the policy may be modified this year.\n\nAnd in Britain there is no law prohibiting phone use in schools, and policies vary across the country. But a recent study by the London School of Economics found that in high schools where cellphones were banned, “student performance in high stakes exams significantly increases.”\n\nIn the United States, the policies also differ from state to state and most schools set their own policies.\n\nThe Los Angeles Unified School District, the largest in California, forbids the use of cellphones at recess and lunch, for instance, while thousands of students in Miami-Dade County, the largest public school district in Florida, receive free cellphones to help with their studies.\n\nIn New York City, a ban on cellphones in public schools that was imposed in 2006 by Mayor Michael Bloomberg was overturned in 2015 by his successor, Bill de Blasio, who argued that allowing schools to set their own policies would reduce inequaliity. The initial ban had also been criticized because it resulted in the emergence of trucks that would park near schools and charge $1 a day to store devices, with some school children paying $180 a year for the service.\n\nWhy not use the ‘computer in their pockets’?\nFor now, parents and teachers in France appear united in their opposition to the education minister’s proposal, saying the debate should not be about banning phones but regulating their use.\n\n“Our position is that we must limit cellphones’ perverse effects,” said Gerard Pommier, the head of the Federation of Parents in State Schools. “We would prefer work to be done on the educational aspect. Cellphones are tools, and it’s their excessive use that poses a problem.”\n\nAlexis Torchet, secretary general of the teachers’ union SGEN-CFDT, said, “The question is not about banning phones but teaching student how to use them in a sensible and reasoned manner.”\n\n“About 90 percent of students have what is basically a computer in their pockets that is often more operational than the school’s ones,” Torchet said. “The debate must be centered around technology education.”\n\n“There is a lot of teaching to do about digital tools and digitization in general,” he added.",
