| body | Today's fast went well, no problem at all. I think I am getting back to the point I was at before, where a day fast is absolutely nothing to me. I still have a serious problem when I don't fast though. It's really hard not to continuously eat when I am eating. Monday I had a four hour window and it was really hard to stop. Even though after the steak I felt completely full, I was haunting the kitchen, and examining my feelings, I was looking for dessert. Instead, I had some salt and a pretty large amount of water. about two liters over half an hour. I think it helped. But that's really not the issue, the issues is that while I may seem to have will power, I really don't. Fasting is easy to me, moderating my diet is very difficult. If I had something in the house that I shouldn't have eaten (like nuts or fruit), I don't know if I could have resisted. |

| body | Except for the little cube of cheese from the Cheese lady at the store (I can't resist women offering me food), I broke my fast at 2:pm, making 68 hours on the weekend fast. Actual breakfast, 16 oz of bone broth and egg yolks, two fried eggs, a 6 oz pork steak, 4 oz of chicken livers, two strips of bacon. A rest and then... wait, back up. I fell completely asleep after eating. I slept for over an hour. Fortunately I had an alarm set to remind me to start my last meal. This is not the first time this has happened. I did not check my blood sugar, but once when I did as I started feeling sleepy, it was completely normal, near 80. Just checking right now, since it's about an hour since my last meal, and it's 85 (blood pressure and pulse low normal, temperature a little high normal 99.8). So anyway, then I had 16 oz of Kefir, some pork rinds and a 12 oz rib eye, followed by another 16 oz Bone Broth mix which I sipped for about a half an hour because I made it a little too salty. |

| body | Sigh... I think I'm getting over this journaling of my repetitive fasting. For the record, I missed yesterday's post, which was a feast day. 4 eggs, 6 slices of bacon, two pork steaks, some chicken livers, two 16 oz servings of bone broth with yolks, one 16 oz serving of kefir, about 4 oz of cheese. Stuck to the 4 hour mark pretty well. Today's fast is good, the test will be tomorrow, since so far, I have not made a weekend fast for one reason or another. |

| body | Of course there's no news on the fasting, but I did spend sometime looking back at my records. I don't think OMAD is working for me. I mean, as a fasting device, it works, but I'm already doing almost two days of fasting. But then I find myself stressed about trying to get all my food into one hour / one meal. I just don't think that's necessary for me. If I were only doing 23 hour fasting, yes, absolutely. Because I want to spend as much time with low insulin levels as I can to help correct my insulin sensitivity. I want as much autophagy as I can get to resist some of the degenerative distress I have to deal with. But I'm already getting 44+ hours, and if I make it through the weekend I get 68+ hours. That leaves me four hours to eat instead of one hour. That's what I was doing before and it worked out pretty well. I have a breakfast, wait an our, have a meal, wait an hour, eat something else (I know that sounds like three hours, but it takes about 20 minutes to eat, so that fills out the remaining hour). I just don't think I need to push myself that much. I'm retired. This is supposed to be fun. But I will keep up the carnivore part of this round. I don't mind that much at all. |

| body | Crap, almost forgot again. I was halfway to bed. No big news to relate, I did a lot of precooking today and that's about it. I did a beef roast and some of those pork steaks. I am having a little trouble with my kefir, some say it may be an imbalance in the scoby giving me too much of a yeast growth. I'm trying their solution of over culturing it to change the pH and reduce the yeast. We'll see if that works by Friday. I might just order in some new grains and see if that helps. |

| body | You means side effects of the carnivore diet? No, actually no effects at all. That's why I quit the other times. I think I do well with salad greens, and I do well with no vegs at all. There's no real difference (yet), which makes staying on carnivore difficult. No feedback. I hope to make a few months so I can see if there are any slow-to-develop benefits. But I don't really have any of the issues most people say they use it for, like I don't have serious mood issues, autoimmune stuff, stuff like that. I could hope for better skin flexibility and lubrication, but some of that is just age. I'm never going to be 25 again. |

| body | I just realized as I sat down to type this, that I missed yesterday. No big loss, in case you were wondering. I just got caught up in one of my other hobbies and lost track of what I was doing. At 3:AM I finally found the solution I was looking for and made some progress, my phone now prints out a list of everything it has done - well, everything I have thought of to make it do. Anyway, today was shopping and I got some chicken livers. I did not eat them today. I have never eaten chicken livers, even though I cooked them many times for other people. But those were breaded and deep fried. These, if I have them, will be pan fried with salt and bacon fat. I'm still trying to get past my squeamishness. Today's meal was 16 oz of kefir, four eggs and bacon, a ribeye, followed by some bone broth (with egg yolk, butter, and yeast), stewed beef, and raw cheese. Honestly, I miss my salads and other vegetables. I would enjoy the heck out of some sauerkraut right now. I keep hoping that my sensibilities will change as the days go past (and I will give it a lot more time), but so far I am not a confirmed "carnivore and carnivore only" kind of guy. |

I do think the 1400 units that Berg talks about is for people who are dealing with too much insulin and carbs, and he hasn't taken that into account. All I know for certain is that if I don't take my supplements, I get leg cramps at night. I had it checked while that was happening and my serum potassium was low. I took the asporotates and tested again and it was better. |

| body | I've cooked my beef feet broth down into glue. Not sure how well I will absorb it versus having a lot more water in it, but I aim to find out. I've also been spiking my broth with heavy salt, potassium chloride, and glycine. Which leads me to a question about potassium I'm hoping you might know about: I've seen conflicting info regarding potassium to salt ratios. James Dinicholantonio (sp?) seems to indicate that LOTS of salt is no problem and he hardly even mentions potassium in his book The Salt Fix except to say that some people's kidneys have trouble processing potassium chloride and it can lead to problems like too much potassium in the blood and toxicity. Others say that you should be having as much as 16X potassium to sodium. Frank Tufano says to avoid salt because of the potassium ration issue. Eric Berg says you should be getting it from vegetables and that isn't an option for me. Have you tried other forms of potassium like citrate? Wondering about absorption/processing in the body, taste, or any other thoughts you might have on the subject. |

Just like coming off a long extended fast, you don't want to go too big drinking or eating when you come off a dry fast. Start with one cup of liquid then wait at least 30 minutes before the next one. You can swell up pretty fast and also be stuck with a full stomach if you don't take it easy. |

| body | Fasting has really changed my hunger/satiety function. I'm down in Mexico drinking beers every other night and I never really get hungry. I'll eat 6 oysters, 6 clams, and 6 pieces of salmon sashimi with some roe, and a tiny cup of bone broth and can't muster any more hunger. I think I'm still losing fat while indulging in beer and lifting weights periodically. My metabolic inertia is pointed in the right direction! |
