Their most important settlement on the southern coast was Madras where they built a fortified factory called Fort St. George. This was the first proprietary holding acquired by the company on Indian soil. Gradually the company expanded its trading network. By that time the company was well established in India. It had also succeeded in eliminating the other rival European powers from India. They also started interfering in the political affairs of the Indian rulers.\n\n![3.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmfQbUjhsB7WyhDY6gjibbEM2bLgutA8nw4oxrkp4hh36W/3.png)\n\n![4.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmTkYyDxkLabXB1vqY1qcut5XBWZruyH1jZeprxEvTaAMY/4.png)\n\n![5.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmS1zgCWtPXEwMW8DJ6vv5xcaigYCMVfMAHPrNyqcXznd2/5.png)\n\nNow look at the map of the 19th century India given below. You will locate many big and small independent states. These states had their own rulers, economy, language and culture. These states were constantly at war with each other. It was not surprising that they fell an easy prey to the European powers especially the British. The Battle of Plassey in 1757 marked the beginning of the political dominance of the British in India. British rule had a deep impact on the political and social life of the Indians. \nVarious wars waged by the British against the Indian states.\n(1) Anglo-mysore Wars\n(2) Anglo-maratha Wars\n(3) Anglo-sikh Wars\n(4)Other Conquests, System of Alliances and Annexations. They also started interfering in the political affairs of the Indian rulers. ![3.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmfQbUjhsB7WyhDY6gjibbEM2bLgutA8nw4oxrkp4hh36W/3.png) ![4.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmTkYyDxkLabXB1vqY1qcut5XBWZruyH1jZeprxEvTaAMY/4.png) ![5.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmS1zgCWtPXEwMW8DJ6vv5xcaigYCMVfMAHPrNyqcXznd2/5.png) Now look at the map of the 19th century India given below. Various wars waged by the British against the Indian states. (1) Anglo-mysore Wars (2) Anglo-maratha Wars (3) Anglo-sikh Wars (4)Other Conquests, System of Alliances and Annexations. Soon many more native states came under British control. This was done by a system of alliances called the Doctrine of Lapse and Subsidiary Alliance. ![6.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmWy8dKxBVSAfs3ei6Z27JV3DdEv9Y4Q72eWo9HFPwdWG7/6.png) ![7.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQooe5uAjg4ry3WPyoaTN8GoqfCFJg8G48SeqGw8EWSDZ/7.png) # BRITISH IMPACT ON CULTURE & EDUCATION >The British wanted the Indians to be educated and modern enough to consume their goods & make immense profits. >Radicals among the British wanted Indians to be a part of the modern, progressive world of science and introducing the English language in India, which was part of their strategy. >The Indians would be ready to work as clerks on low wages while for the same work the British would demand much higher wages, which would reduce the expenditure on administration. > It was also expected to create a class of Indians who were loyal to the British and were not like the other Indians, this class of Indians would be taught to appreciate the culture and opinion of the British. > In addition, they would also help to increase the market for British goods. >Positive impact of education on the society is that, even though education did not reach the masses but ideas of anti-imperialism, nationalism, social and economic equality took root. >The spread of English language and western education helped Indians to adopt modern, rational, democratic, liberal and patriotic outlook. # IMPACT ON SOCIETY >Certain social practices was popular in Indian society like female infanticide, child marriage, polygamy and a rigid caste system. >Education was limited to a handful of men belonging to the upper castes. >The British brought new ideas such as liberty, equality, freedom and human rights from the Renaissance. >These ideas appealed to some sections of other society and led to several reform movements in different parts of the country. >Many visionary Indians such as Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Aruna Asaf Ali and Pandita Ramabai supported this movements. >These movements aimed at social unity and strived towards liberty, equality and fraternity. >The socio-religious reform movement led to the national movement. >These reform movements helped many Indians to come to terms with the modern world. >They helped other countrymen to appreciate that all modern ideas were not against Indian culture and values. >The introduction of modern education guided the Indians towards a scientific and rational approach to life. >People became more conscious of their identity as Indians which was ultimately responsible for their united struggle against the British in the freedom movement of India. ![8.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmTbiAyV66oU4TPNGR46py6YHmqXJGdAyF1TLLLNVKqfCz/8.png) # BRITISH EMPIRE IN AFRICA ![9.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmU5X2HhHZ73EmHZUJRttrjWHgMxg3ZbMrcSwZcdmtFuEZ/9.png) ![10.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmeHerpe9NoHpYcLBJaDGX1Z5BfdbQWRUzZbLWASCAWnqc/10.png) ![11.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmRnVoKUCwLtusTMP6VyD7MGKnM5AVKzQutzM8ZN5BKRBV/11.png) ![12.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQd7WKjce8AZ6W6KsSn4sqTC2kzxeJ62TaWr2HGEQHJWZ/12.png) ![13.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmeohunPEgcuEQ6jskMYEdYmUdWnwcGDTSgtCwAuP7ipst/13.png) ![14.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmYBDPwAnLbkh1cdQWYtG375D1AZbjufe9rTym2PH55rFh/14.png) ![16.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSmu1rJsHDceojLV3191weXbWcQCqVSanvetPEdqpqqcD/16.png) #### Basically i have been given an assignment by my teacher on such topic and here's what i put forth in front of her.so how did it went? ### Feel free to share your view ![17.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQp7vGY5BYbZe4wUeYZhjzKUVS6x9efVGTo8pRQTBGTpC/17.png) # [@beeJanuary](https://steemit.com/@beejanuary)

This was done by a system of alliances called the Doctrine of Lapse and Subsidiary Alliance. \n![6.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmWy8dKxBVSAfs3ei6Z27JV3DdEv9Y4Q72eWo9HFPwdWG7/6.png)\n\n![7.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQooe5uAjg4ry3WPyoaTN8GoqfCFJg8G48SeqGw8EWSDZ/7.png)\n\n# BRITISH IMPACT ON CULTURE & EDUCATION \n>The British wanted the Indians to be educated and modern enough to consume their goods & make immense profits.\n\n>Radicals among the British wanted Indians to be a part of the modern, progressive world of science and introducing the English language in India, which was part of their strategy. \n\n>The Indians would be ready to work as clerks on low wages while for the same work the British would demand much higher wages, which would reduce the expenditure on administration.\n\n> It was also expected to create a class of Indians who were loyal to the British and were not like the other Indians, this class of Indians would be taught to appreciate the culture and opinion of the British.\n\n> In addition, they would also help to increase the market for British goods. \n\n>Positive impact of education on the society is that, even though education did not reach the masses but ideas of anti-imperialism, nationalism, social and economic equality took root.\n\n>The spread of English language and western education helped Indians to adopt modern, rational, democratic, liberal and patriotic outlook.\n\n# IMPACT ON SOCIETY\n>Certain social practices was popular in Indian society like female infanticide, child marriage, polygamy and a rigid caste system.\n\n>Education was limited to a handful of men belonging to the upper castes. \n\n>The British brought new ideas such as liberty, equality, freedom and human rights from the Renaissance. \n\n>These ideas appealed to some sections of other society and led to several reform movements in different parts of the \ncountry. \n\n>Many visionary Indians such as Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Aruna Asaf Ali and Pandita Ramabai supported this movements. \n\n>These movements aimed at social unity and strived towards liberty, equality and fraternity. \n\n>The socio-religious reform movement led to the national movement.\n\n>These reform movements helped many Indians to come to terms with the modern world.\n\n>They helped other countrymen to appreciate that all modern ideas were not against Indian culture and values.\n\n>The introduction of modern education guided the Indians towards a scientific and rational approach to life.\n\n>People became more conscious of their identity as Indians which was ultimately responsible for their united struggle against the British in the freedom movement of India.\n\n![8.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmTbiAyV66oU4TPNGR46py6YHmqXJGdAyF1TLLLNVKqfCz/8.png)\n\n# BRITISH EMPIRE IN AFRICA \n![9.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmU5X2HhHZ73EmHZUJRttrjWHgMxg3ZbMrcSwZcdmtFuEZ/9.png)\n\n![10.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmeHerpe9NoHpYcLBJaDGX1Z5BfdbQWRUzZbLWASCAWnqc/10.png)\n\n![11.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmRnVoKUCwLtusTMP6VyD7MGKnM5AVKzQutzM8ZN5BKRBV/11.png)\n\n![12.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQd7WKjce8AZ6W6KsSn4sqTC2kzxeJ62TaWr2HGEQHJWZ/12.png)\n\n![13.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmeohunPEgcuEQ6jskMYEdYmUdWnwcGDTSgtCwAuP7ipst/13.png)\n\n![14.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmYBDPwAnLbkh1cdQWYtG375D1AZbjufe9rTym2PH55rFh/14.png)\n\n![16.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSmu1rJsHDceojLV3191weXbWcQCqVSanvetPEdqpqqcD/16.png)\n\n#### Basically i have been given an assignment by my teacher on such topic and here's what i put forth in front of her.so how did it went?\n\n### Feel free to share your view\n![17.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQp7vGY5BYbZe4wUeYZhjzKUVS6x9efVGTo8pRQTBGTpC/17.png)\n\n# [@beeJanuary](https://steemit.com/@beejanuary)",

I make it sound like a big deal but that's what she was after and the following is how i obliged. ##### But you know in my childhood I used to fetch some pieces of meat to those unlicensed brat...now as im thinking of it..I really miss those days.Anyways..on with the following. Just like my every typical day...had some snacks, closed the kitchen window and went out to get some exercise(50 Abdominal Crunches and again 50 Abdominal Crunches,50 standing bicycle crunches,50 jumping bicycle crunches,20 second cobra stretch,3 times bear crawl or lizard crawl from one end of my room to the other, some punching,36 push ups,50 second planks) and went though some virtual socializing. #### If I'm not wrong it was like about 6:15 pm when I came into the kitchen to have some water...i saw her through the window.I stared at her as if i never had seen a cat in my life,as if i never had felt tranquility in my life. She was there all along for quite a long time and didn't even move when I opened the kitchen window. At that very moment I knew my childhood memories really needed to be recalled for once again. ## Had it been you what would you have done, feel free to comment out your thoughts # [@beeJanuary](https://steemit.com/@beejanuary)

body![beejanuary.jpeg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSbgVgYkRFH25wvYxJHVzfYUyfr5Y27JnjRRWVBZBd3Ae/beejanuary.jpeg) # It was this...sort of a sunny evening, I had to chase a cat within and out of the house as for its notorious greed for all those food standing there in the kitchen.
