Numerous exchanges and crypto shops are trying to catch the hype and offer their clients so-called Gram futures. Buying unhedged futures is very risky. Why so? There are three reasons for that.\n\n## 1. You may never get your profits or money back.\n\nLet’s draw a simple example.\n\n>A futures contract is a legal agreement to buy or sell a particular commodity or asset at a predetermined price at a specified time in the future.\n\n>Investopedia.\n\nAssume that an exchange sells 1 million contracts at $2 per Gram:\n\n![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmdf1481eH3jP1U8kKapCnQNUTV9v2E91dFN9rYuXtXzzZ/image.png)\n\nUpon the launch of TON and the actual trading of real Grams, the true price of Grams will be determined. If the price hits $4.5 per Gram, investors would see paper profits. Yet it is an open question whether investors would be able to cash out:\n\n![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmcxf3x58X1yiN4LK5i7yA4pGYabmq3Zju4Z9SMtyWk2dR/image.png)\n\nFor the investors to see their profits, the exchange would have to find somewhere 1 mln of Grams, now worth $4,500,000. If these futures are backed by real Grams, there is no issue. Still, it’s a known fact that original investors in TON are prohibited from selling their stakes before the TON goes live.\n\nThis means, that the majority of the exchanges are selling naked futures and will have to buy Grams in the open market to pay the investors. In this case, exchanges are at a loss and have to find the money elsewhere. In our view, taking the credit risk of the exchange is too risky.\n\nIf the fact that you may never see the profits from the questionable deal is not convincing, here is a couple of additional issues with Gram futures.\n\n## 2. The transaction might be illegal.\n\nFutures are considered to be financial instruments in most jurisdictions. Given the fact that the majority of shops selling and trading the futures are not regulated, this may raise issues with the regulators. This problem is even more important for those exchanges who sell the futures to the US investors in a clear violation of SEC rulings.\n\nShould there be probes from the regulators, this could result in a run on the exchange with a detrimental effect on the price of the exchange-listed futures.\n\n## 3. The price might be artificial.\n\nTrading on these exchanges usually has a very low volume. Low depth of the market means that the price might be manipulated even by relatively small orders. This could also result in extraordinary price behavior like in the screenshot below. The price increased 4-fold and plummeted as low as $0.12 in a short period amid near-zero trading:\n\n![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZTByzEeTASyAZNqL8aTdyKqpaKCWFiiZMAgztk4RyiDN/image.png)\n\nAnother interesting pattern is the stickiness of price to $2. It’s worth noting that in June and July all trading activity evaporated completely.\n\nGiven the fact that all futures are not tokens and could not be transferred to another exchange, there is no way for the arbitrageurs to profit on price discrepancies.\n\n## Conclusion\n\nIndeed, Gram is going to make a big bang when TON goes live. It might be compelling to get exposure to Grams rather sooner than later, but it’s not worth the risk. The potential risks to investors are as follows:\n\n* No backing by real Grams;\n* No compliance with regulations;\n* No liquidity.\n\nAs a result, investors at best may not see their profits or lose all the money in the worst-case scenario. Patience pays off. And to tell you the truth, personally don't know yet what to think about it.\n\nI'm mostly interested how FED and other central banks will react if they will realize that Libra is a threat for current financial system.\n\nPersonally I will not put my trust in Facebook and I don't think I will ever use Libra. However I will surely pay attention to this project as it may turn our financial world up-side-down....\n\n`Important question` I would like to ask you, and hopefully you would share your own opinion:\n- many people out there seem to see Libra as a threat to current monetary system. I'm one of those. However I've learned that global economy is build on debt. And all debts are in FIAT currency. So does it really matter if people use Libra to pay for their \"groceries\" and shop online? They still need to pay all their debts and mortgages for next 20-30 years in their local fiat currency. \n\nFor that reason alone I cannot see monetary system being changed much. Even when an ICO accepted Bitcoin and other cryptos, participants favored ETH for the speed of transactions. All this resulted in congestion of the network during highly anticipated ICOs.\n\nIt is hardly a surprise that the ETH price skyrocketed amid the growing number of ICOs back in 2017 and fell back accordingly.\n\n![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmd8PadhrwKUQy8nZz5AGrKgZg7Ja3kAid9BksPVjChAwt/image.png)\n\nWith the ICO volume decreasing, leaving the space to IEO, the use cases for Ethereum have narrowed to support ERC tokens of other projects and niche collectibles like crypto kitties, puppies, cuties and the like.\n\nThanks to the easiness to create and transact an ERC-20 token, Ethereum created a boost for asset-backed coins, including stable coins.\n\n### Stable coins and blockchain 2.5\n\nNot all stable coins are Ethereum-based. For instance, controversial Tether has the majority of the tokens operating on Omni blockchain. Stable coins are used as a proxy to fiat currencies and hence, the store of value. It is the closest traders could have to get into cash amid market meltdowns and projects that are willing to cash out by selling crypto assets. One could refer to the sale of round 1 Grams on Liquid exchange where only USD and USDC were accepted.\n\nThere are two major issues that limit the use cases of stable coins:\n - Trust;\n - Mass adoption.\n\nTrust affects above all the store of value use case. Should the users believe that the stable coin is not fully asset-backed, its value shall deteriorate. This is exactly what happened to Tether in early 2017 and late 2018.\n\nMass adoption affects the payments use case. Thanks to the massive user base of Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, the soon-to-be-launched digital currency will have multiple use cases.\n\nThe major use cases are sending money and paying for goods and services. It’s not a surprise that the leading payment providers joined the Libra Association: Visa, MasterCard, and PayPal, to name a few.\n\n![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmTdxKBJ18HG3d3GaJjAMH5bb94GT32AJ6cYFZwhNy9ejT/image.png)\n\nGiven the fact that Libra is going to be a stable coin, pegged to a basket of low volatile currencies, it poses an existential threat to blockchain 2.5 multiple and diverse stable coins issued by less known companies. Why should people bother using any other stable coin if one could send money directly from her Facebook account?\n\nIt will not be a surprise that the blockchain will end up with an 800-pound gorilla of Libra coin and one or two USD-pegged coin with proven reserves of fiat to serve a proxy for USD.\n\nThe open question is whether Libra poses a threat to Bitcoin. On the one hand, Libra will limit the use cases of Bitcoin. Especially that of money remittance for the underbanked. On the other, the weight of regulation and capital controls in exactly these underbanked countries tells me that Bitcoin will survive.\n\nLibra is going to be regulated one way or another. With a centralized entity, be it Facebook or Libra Association, local regulators will send requests, subpoenas and so on. And unlike with Bitcoin regulators would have leverage since Facebook will not take the risk of being blocked by the IP.\n\nAlso, Facebook tarnished reputation after Cambridge Analytica and centralized nature of Libra will keep away those who favor decentralization. Hence even though Libra will kill the majority of existing stable coins, Bitcoin use cases will survive.\n\n### Telegram Open Network and blockchain 3.0\n\n![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQPBG2YhfyoBCavoTix1joPPgKXeoMAAKHdTddocCidjx/image.png)\n\nTelegram blockchain and its native token Gram are set to be the killer of Ethereum. TON offers the same functionality as Ethereum but on the next level, including scalability and speed of transactions. Most importantly, Telegram has approximately a 300 million user base which dwarves the audience of all cryptocurrencies combined.\n\n![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmShQEjunnWyrfKpyoCkEHED7TGDJ1EdSDGJLC2EcwVvPz/image.png)\n\nSwitching cost for the crypto community will be negligible as Telegram is already a default means of communication.\nThe image of ultra-libertarian Mr. Durov and Telegram reluctance to share user data with governments are dramatically more appealing to the crypto community when compared to Mr. Zukerberg and Facebook.\n\nTelegram messenger has already a vibrant bot functionality. Introduction of the native blockchain for micro-payments alone is a solid use case. Expected support of smart-contracts together with fast confirmations leave no meaningful use cases for Ethereum. Most likely, Ethereum technology would continue like the current Enterprise Ethereum Alliance and serve the needs of companies with private blockchains.\n\nAnother solid use case for TON and Grams is payments from one user to another. This is the place where Grams are more likely to clash with Libra and Bitcoin.\n\nFor the former, Telegram competes for the same functionality of in-app payments, mainly in underbanked countries. All while Telegram certainly lacks the vibrant commerce functionality of Instagram and Facebook, it tries to play on the weaknesses of the competitor when it comes to the privacy of user data. For instance, in May Mr. Durov [commented on the lack of security](https://telegra.ph/Why-WhatsApp-Will-Never-Be-Secure-05-15) in WhatsApp. It’s yet to be seen whether the TON ecosystem would have sufficient e-commerce oriented use cases to compete with Facebook’s Libra.\n\nAs for the latter, Telegram has potential to substitute Bitcoin when it comes to Bitcoin’s value transmission use case.\n\nShould TON be truly decentralized and Telegram successfully continue dodging IP blocking in certain countries, there are more reasons for people to adopt faster app-based transactions in Grams than stick to Bitcoin.\n\n### Surviving blockchains and their use cases\n\n![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmPUpxssxtLCB4FnfFmVC7UY3pqoTFko1aZKdPSfJCeUMJ/image.png)\n\n2020 is going to mark itself with the rise of new blockchains and decline of some existing ones.\n\nBitcoin will remain more of a digital gold and the means of payment for those who believe in hard-core decentralization, losing use cases to Libra and Gram.\n\nEthereum is likely to see a decline amid narrowing use cases and technical superiority of TON.\n\nMost of the stable coins will go extinct without making it to the broad adoption mainly because of Libra becoming the trusted stable coin with use cases beyond cryptocurrency trading. For the cryptocurrency trading, we will see one or two stable coins staying in the game to be the proxy for cash.\n\nLibra will be the currency of choice for e-commerce and money remittance for the underbanked. Most likely, we will see challenger banks entering the space to provide credit and accepting deposits in Libra. Still, the centralized nature of Libra and an open question regarding the support of smart contracts leaves plenty of room for TON.\n\nTON is going to experience the same dynamics as Ethereum in its early days but has the better prospects than Ethereum thanks to the existing user base and infrastructure for micropayments in bots that could become governed by the smart contracts. Today we proudly make Blackmoon smart contracts publicly available (view on Github).\n\nThese smart contracts govern each and every aspect of Asset token creation, exchange, and redemption as well as the distribution of the rewards to the continuous contributors.\n\nThis step is an important milestone in our goal to make the bridge between blockchain and traditional finance ecosystem a reality. It took us half a year to finalize the concept and fine-tune the underlying economics to make them fast, reliable and gas-efficient.\n\n\n## Two-level smart contracts\n\nOne of the value proposition of the blockchain technology and especially those blockchains that support smart contracts is “code is the law” maxima. Ethereum-based smart contracts are immutable once they are deployed. This means that smart-contract acts in the same way it was designed to perform no matter how the parties interpret it as it might be the case with a legal agreement.\n\nThis value proposition often becomes an Achilles’ heel of smart contracts application to real life.\n\nOn the one side of the spectrum, the smart contracts might be over-simplified, even primitive, while the mission-critical part of a “digital agreement” is stored and calculated off-chain. Such an approach undermines the whole “code is the law” maxima.\n\n![BMC](https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/880/0*ABtMYDUwBAJrXlc9.)\n\nOn the other side, there is a monolith, lengthy smart contract deployed to stay such forever. This smart contract gradually goes outdated and its application finds new and new bugs and under-specifications that rest unresolved thus making this smart contract obsolete. Such a dynamics is not necessarily the result of poor coding, but a sheer evolution of the world. Application of old smart contacts might look like riding a horse from Paris to Berlin while you could very well take a plane.\n\n![BMC](https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/880/0*Fvtx9UAN3e0ilaPa.)\n\nBoth these ways of smart-contract construction could not be applied in real life when creating a scalable, worldwide business, especially in finance, that is why we use two-level smart contracts.\n\nEach smart contract now comprises two parts. The first contract is used by the end users, contains public methods and commands required standards, ERC20 for instance. This is the proxy contract. The second contract contains all the necessary logic, business rules, stores data and so on. This is the rich contract. The proxy contract contains information that communicates the address of the rich contract.\n\n![BMC](https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/880/0*IrlmPlGLgbqDSJ2W.)\n\nApplication of this concept keeps the public contract (the one that faces the user on a daily basis) simple and immutable. Indeed, no one wants to see the address of the smart contract she uses changed each time there is an upgrade of the rich contract or a bug fix. Rich smart contracts in this concept stay up to date with the existing regulation and new developments in the blockchain architecture. The former is of an utmost importance since the regulation in the crypto space is virtually non-existent.\n\nAll our tokens on Blackmoon, both BMC and the Asset Tokens are structured in this way, as it was outlined in our White Paper.\n\n\n## Whitelists\n\nOne of the fundamental principles governing the financial world and ensuring its functionality is the application of certain rules and regulation to the transacting parties. Just as traffic lights and road regulation ensure orderly and safe movement of the vehicles, the financial regulation ensures a fair and orderly marketplace by applying some requirements — such as suitability criteria of the investors, verification requirements, licensing or exchange membership — to the participants. Of utmost importance are the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regulations that aim to ensure the prevention of illicit transactions.\n\nThe world of the blockchain with all its promise as a technology is largely terra incognita in terms of regulation now. But there is little doubt that, in the nearest future, the blockchain-based financial instruments and contracts will be regulated. As the means to ensure compliance of our Asset Tokens with the regulatory AML standards, Blackmoon platform adheres to the concept of the “whitelists”. The whitelist is ancillary structure to addresses and the balances of the holders that enable the contract to define whether the exchange is possible between the counterparties.\n\nThe main rule is that Asset Tokens could be exchanged only between the eligible and verified users. When you register on the Blackmoon platform, submit your KYC and add the Ethereum address upon successful verification, your address is sent to the contract to enable transfers of the Asset Token. This is one of the instruments that enable compatibility between the legal framework and the token in the real world.\n\nIf you haven’t registered yet, you can do it now by visiting our platform.\n\n\n## Asset Token architecture\n\nIn the real world, there is a whole spectrum of funds from charity to high-profile, high-cost hedge funds and from tailor-made funds to standardized ETFs (exchange-traded funds). As a result, we created such a framework that enables us to create tokens that provide exposure to the performance of the wide variety of funds, including custom-made unique tokens. This approach allows the platform to perform the tokenization of any kind without the need to re-write the smart-contracts already deployed to the Ethereum blockchain.\n\nEach asset token includes the following contract:\n\n* ERC20-contract, a proxy contract for wallets, exchanges, etc.\n* EmissionPovider, a smart contract that governs the sale and creation of tokens. Each creation event is governed by a separate smart contract.\n* BurningMan, a smart contract to buy back (redeem) the tokens and burn them.
