      "body": "Quick Take\nVulcan Forged is a crypto gaming ecosystem, which creates wallets on behalf of its users.\nAn attacker accessed 96 of these wallets, stealing 23.7% of the project’s circulating supply of tokens.\nSo far, half of the funds have been reinbursed from the project’s treasury.\nEarlier today, 96 private keys were stolen from the crypto gaming ecosystem Vulcan Forged, enabling the attacker to siphon off $140 million in cryptocurrency.\nVulcan Forged offers a smorgasbord of crypto activities. It is primarily a game studio, offering six different blockchain-based games. But it also has an NFT marketplace and its own decentralized exchange, where users can trade its token PYR.\nWhen someone registers an account with Vulcan Forged, the platform creates a set of blockchain wallets for them on the Ethereum, Polygon and VeChain blockchains. Rather than have the user manage their own private keys, the platform does so on their behalf. \nAccording to the project’s own wiki, it works with wallet management service Venly (formerly Arkane Network) to create its wallets — a service also used by Atari, Matic and the Blockchain Game Alliance. \nIn Venly’s Discord channel, Lawrence Pluym, head of community at Venly, said it’s undergoing an audit to check whether only Vulcan Forged wallets were affected.\nDumping the tokens on Uniswap\nThe 96 wallets that were affected contained 4.5 million PYR, worth $140 million at the time of the attack. That’s 9% of the project’s total supply of tokens, according to CoinGecko, and 23.7% of the circulating supply. Other assets including ether (ETH) and polygon (MATIC) may have also been taken.\nAfter the exploit was discovered — but before it was announced — Vulcan Forged told its community to remove funds from the liquidity pools on decentralized exchanges. This would make it harder for the attacker to cash out the funds, without using centralized exchanges where they might need identity documents.\nDespite this, the attacker has sold significant amounts of PYR for ETH, selling small batches of tokens at a time. But they still have 2 million PYR (currently worth $47 million) sitting untouched in one wallet.\nThis selling pressure has dropped the price of PYR. It was at $31 prior to the attack and is now at $24 — down 22%.\nVulcan Forged has said the project’s treasury will send out PYR and Vulcan Forged’s LAVA tokens to those affected. They will need to set up accounts with MetaMask and will receive the tokens there. Anyone who had ETH or MATIC stolen will receive the equivalent amount in PYR. So far, half of the funds have been reinbursed.\n“We have contacted all exchanges to blacklist that address. The exchange revealed in a Twitter thread that, on December 11 at about 22:00 UTC, “a number of unauthorized transfers” were made by an unknown entity from its hot wallet.\n\nfurther informed that while its hot wallet was compromised, its cold storage or offline wallets remained unaffected. The platform did not officially disclose the total sum of money stolen during the attack.\n\nPeckShield, a renowned smart contracts auditing firm, estimated that $77.7 million in various assets were stolen during the hack. Today we learn about block chain technology.\nSo let's get start .\nBlock chain technology in a nutshell , block chain technology enables users to transfer digital goods (.e.g. Money and intellectual property) securely, transparently, and quickly.\nNote ; it is the core technology behind most . if not all, crypto currencies.\nIn the world of digital transactions , blockchain technology help us combat issues like double spending this referred to as spending the same money  more than once .\nQ#1 So how does blockchain technology work? \n\nWe have come up with an analogy on how a transaction recorded and stored on a blockchain.\nSay you have a chocolate bar . you give that a chocolate bar to your friend , Kate.\nYou no longer have that particular chocolate bar  , but Kate does .\n\nBut how certain is Kate that the chocolate bar is hers to own? \n\n\nWell you physically handed it over to her . and she has full access to it visually and physically.\n\nTherefore, by literally handing over the chocolate, you lose your rights to own it  and Kate can see that she owns it because she actually possesses it .\n\nNow , suppose you have a digital chocolate bar you would  like to  send to Kate .\nBut you decided to make copies of it first to send to your other friends .\n\nOr you sent it to Kate but attached Ben and jerry to the email for them to download as well .\n\nHow does Kate know whether she will receive original ( and only copy of ) chocolate bar you promised? \n\nThe simple answer to this is , she can't.\nConsequently, the third party a layer perhaps , is needed to control the transaction and make sure the receiver and sender fulfill their ends of the bargain .\n\nSince anything digital can be replicated again and again , it is very difficult to implement a digital paying system. That was the main problem that crypto currency developers aimed to solve . This problem is referred to as double spending.\n\nThe solution to this is make a common ledger  a book of all transactions , public. Thus , if Kate is receive the chocolate bar from you , she view the ledger and see what you transferred how much and to whom . This the promise of block chain technology.
