Swiftly I dragged down the notification bar and put on the flash light as I heard footsteps coming towards the foot of my bed. Her showy red short gown shone through the raying light. Then I jolted up and sat upright with my perse short and nude chest, surprised. She didn’t tell me she was coming. Infact she had been coming at her own will like she owned the house, or, in another sense, rented the space for me. \n\n*“You this damn good for nothing, useless, asshole,”* she said with raw American accent. \n\nI felt the bleating sound of her voice fell on my mind like heavy droplets of rain. My heart beat faster and my thoughts started spinning around  the symmetric rhythms of her voice. Her hopeless avowals weakened me. I had always begged her hoping she would stop this. Is it a crime to love, and be emotionally fragile, to her? \n\nWe were meant to be strong together, you know! \n\nShe reaIly would have been helping me fogged a stronger force out of my weakness with her motivating words. But I couldn’t cotton on why she gaslighted me, even at the slightest opportunity. I couldn't know why she made me question my own being, if indeed I was born to always fail like she had been claiming. \n\nI stood up and my thoughts started trotting the part of relieving the doom that could make her turn her words in my favour, not in violence and without hurting her. I wanted to quench the fire burning down the wax of love we both held, before the melted hot liquid wax started dripping down our bare hands. \n\nI curled my right hand palm and stretched it hoping it landed on her nape, but she dodged, and my last four fingers draped lightly over her chest. More than thrice my attempts didn’t meet any fluke. Then a stare into her eyes made me feel I should knock her out of my room, and my life, as she stood some 80 centimetres away from my grasp.\n \nDeep within me, I still wished she had given me the chance to sort out any difference we were sharing, peacefully. So I pressed on and started petting her with the softest words I had ever learnt, yet my attempts failed again. \n\nSoon anger seethed through every parts of air I breathed in and my gut became made up. But being harsh on her, fighting her even with words, would have reneged on my gentleman ethics. \n\nEach passing minute drove me more enraged. Her sight irritated me even more. Not long enough raging words started gushing out, first through my mind, then my mouth, like mass of light gas escaping through a small chink in a conduit. \n\n*“Stop it. I have power over my mind.”* I actively declared.\n\nShe wriggled and I saw scars of fear like debris in her eyes. \n\n*“I’m enough. I’m powerful. I’m successful.”* I recited. \n\nSoon I stretched my eyes out of its wrinkle sockets and watched her glowing image fade away with the bold sound of my voice. I never knew mere words could break her, I thought.\n\nI stood and saw my hands hanging in the air as I stretched them to hold her close, and I realized she was not physically present. She was the pretty girl deep inside me, who owned the negative-oriented voices in my mind. \n\nI defeated her and felt like I had conquered the continents of the world, because to conquer the world you have to conquer in the battlefield of your mind.\n\n©Menyene Ekong",

A playboy.\n\nThe party had been burning with drinks, and with the soothing aura of the interlude that lasted for a while. My eyes kept wandering around as I peered through the crowd, counting heads and scanning faces. I paused within a few minutes. My search for a pretty girl hit luck. There stood a olive skin girl in pink dapper gown. Her face gleamed through the white glow in the room like a molted skin.\n\nI can feel my eyes almost tumbling in their oars as I started trudging into the familiar realm. Alcohol. But not that close. I was still yet to spell drunk completely. I only had a few dose of beer in the streams within my skin. \n\nBack to the girl. Everything on me started jolting toward her. Her sight kept me fighting within to control my breath but I managed to take a deep breath and went to talk to her. \n\nMany words rushed into my mind as I approached, with confidence and gladness boldly written on my face, *“hi. I’m Menyene Ekong and I’m not a bad person.”*\n\n*“I’m Gloria. If you’re so good why don’t you keep and stick to a girl?”* she remarked. \n\nI was fazed and her question drooped my wings of confidence, *“how come she knows me this much as a go-getter in this phase?”* my mind started wandering, *“she must have been following me on Facebook.”*\n\nShe turned to her right and moved hurriedly to leave me just before I could gather much gumption to spew more unfaithful words. Then she got into a jam. She crashed into someone. Her weary old very low budget phone hit on the ground. Before I could say Jack she crouched down to pick it up. \n\n*“A pretty girl like you wouldn’t want to use this kinda phone.”*\n\n*“I’m not like others,\"* she rejoined. “*I will get a better phone someday.*\"\n\nEigh!\n\nThen I  thought the time was right for me to use some of the antics I had learnt, to pump more words into her ears while waiting for her affections to rise up to her throat. I chose to push on hoping she could look kindly on me. \n\n“*I can get you a new and better phone right now if you wouldn't mind.*”\n\nShe whisked away and left her phenomenal response in my mind all day, “***RIGHT NOW can be the two most seductive words to others not me.***\"\n  \n                                           *****\nAre these words still seductive to you? \nAre you still living in the realm of RIGHT NOW gratification? \n\nPeople (both sexes) have been fooled each minutes, hours and days by these two words. \nIt’s against our wishes that we cannot get everything in just a day. As I was held in the sway of our memories, the thought of our now-sour beautiful story, the Pastor’s voice made me regain schlock consciousness. \n\nMy eyes and heart still beheld her beauty even on this day. Her wedding day. And her steps moved every inch of my bones with both pleasure and pain. Her presence then became a threat to my throne. I was sweating profusely.\n\nShe thitherto told me she loves me. She would always be here for me. How come she didn’t tell me she wouldn’t wait for me? A promise in disguise, I think. \n\nWe had been dating for years. But Sarah didn’t tell me. Her intentions failed to rub off on me each time we hugged. I thought she said she loved me without ceasing, beyond seasons and would let me have her in my grip. Always. Could it be my eyes have failed? No, it’s unbelievable. \n\nThe last time I learnt she cheated on me with Emeka. The other time with Taiwo, now she’s getting married to Itoro. How come she wore such shin of deceit. She must have learnt her antics from time old. My thoughts continued to wander. \n\n And there I was in the wedding watching her leave me , wholly – aargh!\n\nThen I felt a tap on my left hand. It was the girl who sat by my side. It was time to go to the offering box,  but I wouldn’t just know. I stood up from the white plastic chair, struggling to maintain a straight face and wiping off every trace of sweat from it. And tears, too. My legs went numb, and moving them cost me several joules. The train seemed to move very dull. People sang, danced and jubilated in glee but what I felt within couldn’t let me do any. \n\nAs I returned to my seat, undulating rhythms of thoughts hurled my mind and made me think of leaving the premises. I had gone outside severally in search of what could serve me as respite. But it didn’t heal, I was wounded to my marrow. So I chose to stay til the end.\n\nMy hope kept wandering, looking for a lifeline to take me out of this funk. Then I met Hope. The girl who sat by my right, just beside me. Nothing feels good like talking to her at the reception, and after. Even to date. \n\nI can’t have Sarah again, it’s regretful. But I have Hope now, and I’ve resolved my mind to treasure her today and beyond.\n \n*Sarah* was yesterday, *Hope* is today and the days to come. They both have lots in common and have virtually the same quintessential. They belong to the same clan and share the same demonym. But the environment turned out to be somehow drily. *\"How well things have changed,\"* I thought, putting my chin in my right hand purlicue (the space between the thumb and forefinger), bending the rest of my fingers with their tips facing my neck, and my left hand holding the window frame. \n\nI was lost in the realm of ecocidal thoughts as I stood. \n\nAs my mind was held in the sway of this perplexed bewilderment, my eyes wandered looking for what could be a pretty sight. Then I glanced at a spot through the neighbour's window, some few metres from my eyes, and aligned my focus to let the scene have me in its grasp. My apartment is on the second floor of the building just like theirs, and this gave me a leg up to a wider coverage. \n\nMy mind told me it was a play, so I was cowed into silence as I watched them gambolled. A couple I meant! I secretly became their staunch spectator thence. \n\nTee-hee! Blends of chuckles and smiles almost took me off my feet through my window to their apartment. But there I stood in glee thinking I was learning how I should treat my woman when I'm married, and thought they had a delirious time too.\n\nJust then I noticed a slap from Phils, the husband. Argh! My breath gasped. The play turned sour and lost every sliver of fun in my sight.\n\nJamine was running around like a prey in an attempt to egress from the predator - the fiery husband. But still she didn't shout for help. Maybe she was trying to save her marriage, as always.\n \nI had been hearing about her husband's villainy but didn't witness it till that day. \n\nHis series of slaps, hits and blows made me really feel for her but I stood still as I noticed her quite and belligerent gesture. I could've even  believed she was dumb if I had not listened to her voice before.\n\nLight gleamed on the tears rolling down her cheeks. I was stucked in limbo at this point, thinking of what to do as I'm allergic to tears.  \n\nI wept beneath my chest as she plodded around with a slow heavy gait, just like a toddler, shedding tears like she needed it for a bath. A mixture of pity and sympathy held my mind like glue. \n\n*\"Leave me alone, leave me alone,\"* she shouted, but only the echoes of her voice answered. \n\nAs she struggled to get out of his grasp her blue coat went out of shape, the two buttons went off, and he dragged it off her body leaving her with only a camisole. \n\nShe ran around even more looking for where could be a safe harbour. She went to the door but the husband had locked it. He didn't want her to go out, I suppose.\n\nOut of dismay, reality slotted into her mind like a fast spinning wheel. Sadness, anger and pain filled her gut to the brim and sunk her into a contemptuous ditch. She became enraged and furious, and was ready to pick the lam into him.\n\nShe glared at Phils with clenched fist and stood unwavered holding a curtain rail she picked behind a couch, with the thought it was enough to save her from the bestial husband. \n\nHer mind was made up to get out of this rut. She was ready to fight for her freedom.\n\nShe dared to struck his head with the stick as he approached, but luck made him block with his right hand. Then out of fury he pushed her with unimaginable force. She fell. She hit her spine on a concrete step. \n\nHe thought she only slumped. He regretted. And even regretted much more as his eyes witnessed a pool of blood from the lady he claimed he love. He killed her. \n\nThen later that morning news spread around the neighborhood that she died mysteriously. Phils claimed her cause of death was unfathomable.\n\nI have kept it to myself for months while shilly-shallying, and so want to leave such state of flux lest I die living in the guilt of her demise. \n\nI could have been a life saver, but I didn't because I allowed ignorance to run through my veins like oxygenated blood. \n\n=============================\nThere are proliferating records of domestic violence. Women suffer this fate like they were cursed by nature. But they were not. They are unjustly beaten, battered, molested and raped. Most suffer these in silence with the hope that they end someday. But adversely the sequels become endless. They only live with the hope of surviving another day. \n\nLets be empathetic, they need us and our supports. But nothing shew up.\n\nAs I grew I prayed fehemently they don't come while I have my being. \n\nBut here we are today, news have it that lots have been seen. They  are here, and they are with us! \n\nSome are gigantic behemoths like Indominus Rex in Jurassic World and Stjedan Sejic's Xenomorph T-Rex, while others are smaller and mysterious like the silicon-based Horta in Star Trek and the well-known Grey. \n\nTheir size distribution and variations are not the crux of the matter. Their common features, the way of recognizing them, have became the raves of the moment. \n\nThese aliens are reflexively selfish. Their selfishness is liken to none else. It breeds envy and makes them attempt to occupy our planet to its brim through a flaming intergalactic clash, which I'm particularly against. Yes our planet, our hope and happiness! \n\nHave you spotted any around you yet?  This is a no scary movie! That might sound flimsy right? The truth is that there are aliens on earth and it is what we've got to face.\n\nThey are colonizing the earth with fake love and perfidiously exhibit stringent misanthropy, against human. \n\nThey stink a thousand times more than bees and their venoms are more and more powerful than that of king cobras, and not even an antivenin has been discovered at the moment.\n\nThey stab with their hands and leave the victims to die slowly.\n\nThey fight with no weapons. Their mouths are liken to those of vampires, they devour with them. \n\nHaven't you still fathom who they are? \nThey are with us. \n\nBe careful of these aliens. They can slow your pace, your progress and happiness. \n\nThey are those fake people around you who overtly claim they love you when they don't. Love in disguise, I suppose! \n\nTheir loves glows, only to the eyes, in the light and fades away like shadows in the dark. \n\nIf you must make it in life, then they must go back to their planet.
