      "body": "Hello Family!\n\nWe had another chat with a Muse of ours and one of the things that came up was how things went for us both when we started feeling juju being an active force in our lives. He had a much smoother transition than we've had so far, and it got us thinking what was different.\n\nThe answer we came up with was foundation. Hero Training is serious business, and the juju can rip our lives apart if we're not careful. Any training has to have a solid framework to build on, and then also has to be stable enough to withstand the challenges of doing so. When working in Juju, a lot of the consequences are frankly unbelievable, which makes it even harder to recover from. It doesn't even matter whether it's magic, psychology, art, or technology, because these things manifest in pretty mundane ways when they happen!\n\nThat being said...\n\nFoundation pretty much boils down to one thing: having a routine. [It has been noted](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6XAPnuFjJc&index=15&list=PLA7D1CC1CDCD8BF36) that people are more motivated when their basic needs are met, so why wouldn't that also apply to artistic or spiritual endeavors? When we can follow the same patterns on autopilot, it frees up our brain to do other things. We only keep growing when we can keep evolving, and environment counts for a lot of that!\n\nA solid foundation is going to mean something different for everyone, but there are a few hallmarks. First, we have a safe, stable place to live. It means we can sleep when we need to, and can reasonably expect that we would only be disturbed in an exceptional circumstance. This could be a hammock in the woods, an apartment, a house... it need only be safe and dependable. Second, we have enough food to prevent our bodies from breaking down. Hungry people often have a hard time focusing on anything, let alone arts that require you to break your brain. There are people who can function and focus without that, but they are by far the minority for the now. Third, we have supportive, loving people present in our lives. A lot of the juju shit that happens to us can drive us into some pretty wild situations; we need people to keep us home and keep us grounded when it becomes a major force in our lives.\n\nOur experience with this has been pretty horrible, as hero training has taken us from a safe, sane (but complacent) living environment through homelessness, unemployment, and jail. The biggest reasons events like these happen is because the people around us didn't understand what we were going through. People are afraid of what they don't understand, and the conclusion people seem to come to is that use of excessive force is appropriate. The consequences of those events have lead to our mental issues getting worse. This kind of environment breaks our brain, training or not. Only a dependable, loving environment, whether it's surrounded by peers or on a hermit's retreat, can really heal that.\n\nSeriously, for those of us wanting to start on a Hero's path, for our own sakes, bring a buddy. Better yet, invested partners we can train beside. We all need at least one other person who will be there to help each other up when one of us falls, and it will happen one way or another. This has been our experience, real or not, and we hope that sharing is useful for others.\n\nThis post was inspired by one of our muses, who as of now would prefer to remain anonymous. \n\nWe had a chat with him recently and he pointed out that a lot of things are already there that can be magical. We briefly talked about this in our Basic Shielding post; how far we go with this is only limited by our imagination.\n\nThe biggest challenge here is that we are taught from a young age to “stop fantasizing” and to just let shit happen around us. We lose our sense of wonder and love in the world. We learn to explain away more and more of the mystical things around us.\n\nWe lose the ability to see these things when we lose the ability to think like them, so how do we get that back? We just look for the intended effect and just make that happen instead. Stuff we want to do is a lot easier to relate to when we don’t require the special effects to be there. Sometimes all we really need is seeing what our goals are, and what the path there looks like. That in and of itself can be some of the most effective Juju we know: time, energy, and resource management. When we can manage these, it won’t matter if we have the shiny lights or not. The short answer is, it’s our version of the afterlife. It’s just kind of an empty thought-space until it gets filled with something. Everyone does that in their own way; most people get there by dying, though many also visit with arts like astral projection.\n\nThe thing is, when we exist in that space, we follow a different set of rules. We aren’t bound by the usual physical constraints, but we aren’t protected by them either. Here, you exist in a reality unto yourself, and your space is governed by your thoughts and mental awareness. It is important to be ready and have control of your own mind. People who go, often don’t come back. Travel with caution.\n\nFolks who have been around the block a few times only have to remember how they found it, but most of us are new souls. The space still exists; we just have no frame of reference to find it. This is something of a [bootstrap paradox](http://thequantumtunnel.com/continuum-bootstrap-paradox/), which is probably how we exist at all.\n\nThough we are finding a lot of evidence to the contrary, recently, our experience thus far has been that of a new soul. As such, our Hero Mission has been to find our place in the tunnels. The journey has been arduous. We finally found it after accepting one key detail: we might need to simply build it on our own. \n\nWe wonder how many of us don’t know that yet.",

      "body": "When it comes to the path a hero takes, there’s really not one true way to go. Talk to a room of people on what makes a teacher, you’ll have a room full of different answers. This sort of thing makes a hero’s path somewhat abstract. \n\nSo of course we “shouldn’t” talk about it, right?\n\nIn actuality, the experiences we have just won’t make sense to people who haven’t gone through them. New awarenesses come from this kind of path, and they are just kind of different to understand from what we’re used to, such as long-term survival and generational thinking.\n\nAs far quantifying that path, we think it’s more along the lines of collecting a set of experiences to act as foundation for the next set. No one person is gonna know the way for everyone, because everyone has a different starting point. Sometimes the best we can do for each other is show them where we have already been. Other times, it might mean making an effort to map things out for other people to follow.",

      "body": "Hey family! \n\nWhile the situation appears to be improving, we still have a lot going on internally. Yesterday was something of a good day. Today we feel stress from some unknown source. It's pretty reasonable, considering the circumstances we've found ourself in. It's also pretty reasonable that our hero training would increase our capability to generate and store the juju energy.\n\n![IMG_2629.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmV9YUHHEgG9K3uZ2vRrecJqU9saKtFBuoGbRjiRUusBsi/IMG_2629.jpg)\n\nWe all face stress in our day to day lives. Some of it is for fun, some of it is for work. We rely on a system providing many different types of things to stay balanced and healthy. It's generally pretty reasonable to want to sleep at least some of the time, too. When any of these things are out of balance for very long, though, it starts to have a pull on the system and that increases the energy it has to spend to stay operational. That energy has to come from somewhere, and usually it's from the food and chemical reserves your body manages normally. \n\nOn the juju side of things, we've noticed that all of these stressors just kind of end up funneling to one purpose: generating energy. Feeling love from other sources makes it easier to go out and share and do things with people, feeling hurt or envy just kind of makes us want to spend energy on ourselves on self care, and heal. We have been getting a lot of hurt or envy energy lately. There have been little pockets of relief here and there, but this high level of stress is affecting our ability to be safe, around other people or not. We have had a lot of recent experiences punishing us for releasing energy for survival, as well as for asking for help. If we can't release the energy in a mundane way, then we have to release it in a juju way.  We don't know how to use a megascaled Hero Command yet, and that strikes us as something that might be of interest. \n\nAgain with the practical, a lot of people feeling this are a people that are waiting for a reason to use it. This is how cults and riots start. If a lot of people are feeling this from the state of their world, then what happens when something sets it off? This isn't something any one person can deal with alone, but if people were kinder to each other and we started sharing instead of isolating, things would be easier on everyone. This is how we prevent a Melting Pot from turning into a Powder Keg. Sometimes you just have to add something to a system before it can heal itself right.",

      "body": "Hey Family!\n\nThis time we've been reflecting on how our training went the first time we found someone willing to talk to us about this stuff. There's been a lot going on. Here is where the juju disclaimer really makes a difference though. We do not know if this is real, or if it's imaginary. The consequences are the same either way, and this is where the practical application takes a darker turn.\n\n![IMG_2943.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmS2ujRs5UTLkA26k3D1utMCsjhBfTF1YHAH4whUAyndkE/IMG_2943.JPG)\n\nOne of the side effects of being a \"Hero\" or basically magic(k)al juju person is that there really isn't any room in today's world for people who want to live like that. If we're being nice to folks, our system is set up to regulate or discourage that. Homeless folks get ushered on and shuffled around the board like pawns. People with autism and mental illness get treated like prisoners and violent criminals. We have been witnessing all of this first hand, and we're still really not sure what to make of it. The most \"effective\" forms of Hero Training that we've been told about is to experience the world ourself. Thusly, training has ushered us into a world where we explore these things.  \n\nLooking at the Juju points us at an external entity controlling aspects of our life. It could be god, fate, reality... It can look like we don't have any control over our own lives; events just happen to us and around us. Thinking like this actually puts a lot of stress on the mind itself, which in turn makes it easier to control it. It is a self-feeding cycle that is very difficult to get out of on our own.\n\nLooking at the practical points us at our internal reality and how it warps and shapes to match our external reality. We do have a say in how we react to things we observe, but any reasonable person is going to break eventually. When the training is intended to find that point from the start, most people won't make it. Like you wear clothing, so people don’t see you “naked”, people put on headphones when they don’t want people to see them, people carry pepper spray to protect themselves, people carry lucky charms such as a rabbit’s foot...\n\nThese things are there to protect you from ideas, but more what happens is that you just feel more comfortable in your space and you feel more confident in your demeanor. \n\nOnce you got the trick and the concept down, it helps to have a visualization or a ritual so you can use it without your trappings, too. We learned from a lot of people who thought that. We learned from a lot of people who probably still do.\n\nHere’s the thing though. What happens when there aren’t any teachers anymore? What happens when the older teachers get tired of waiting for their students to learn and lose hope for the next generation?\n\nThat’s why calling ourselves teachers or students is problematic; it’s a common trap that can lead to blind faith or hero worship.\n\nThe solution here is that Learning is always an engagement. When you have folks together, the goal is to interact. We are each other’s students, and we are each other’s teachers. We all have our own unique perspective to add to things.",

It's also important to be aware of the consequences of those skills. Sometimes, we learn things that other people don't particularly like; it challenges their values and value systems. One of the major obstacles we've noticed in ours and other people's growth is an unwillingness to face their own selves, their own darknesses... and their own lights. There is a balance in having and using both kinds of skills, and they all have different applications. \n\nWhen it comes to Juju skills, this is much the same problem. When we run from our abilities, be they mundane or magic(k)al, we're running from parts of us that make us who we are. These things are available to us for a reason, and when we refuse to use them, we change and decay. A lot of people don't like growth of a total package; they don't see it as \"whole\" or \"complete,\" but death in the long run doesn't seem like a particularly good option, either.\n\nWhat's left is to cut ties and to move on. We need our compassion and friends for comfort, but it is easy to tip the balance too far in that direction too. When people don't understand what we need to grow, they can't, and won't be a part of that. \n\nIt's sad, but we do have an insatiable desire to learn. Where one door closes, however, there is room for another to open. \n\nLet's see what's through the next one, yeah?",
