titleWW3 and crypto currency?
bodyI have no idea why I am writing this and anyone that has read my other posts will understand that this is the mind of a former suicidal, irrational and irresponsible individual. With all that aside, I believe it is one of the fundamental reasons I am playing with steemit and trying in vain to understand the crypto currency phenomena. They are, without a doubt, intent on killing a good number of us. I think anyone keeping up to date with both the main stream media and the alternatives will agree that world war three started some time ago, just short of naming it. Today's walkout, by the Americans, British and French from the UN council was without a doubt an indication that there is now, nowhere back. They intend to pursue war with Russia and anyone that might ally with her, in some foolish notion that they have a winning strategy. I really don't think these people understand that this time the bombs will be going both ways. This time, the war wont be fought in a distant desert where all they need worry over is the constant supply of arms and a constant supply of media rhetoric to keep the public blind. This time, it will come home. It will be our houses and our workplaces turned to rubble. It will be out infrastructure that will take decades to repair assuming anyone is left to repair it. And what of trade? What of our continuing to barter once those first bombs drop? What use is a crypto currency that relies on the connectivity of us all to be of any use? Yes, I understand that a wallet can be carried on a phone, a ram stick or perhaps an sd drive. But the value from that point on will be locked for everyone. I don't post this professing to understand, nor do I post it pretending I have an answer. Perhaps someone out there does though. Perhaps the creators of this massively liberating form of finance can explain that they thought this through such a scenario. Today, very few of the global population uses or understands the wonders and freedom of crypto currencies. So of what use will it be to the few that use it? I am going to now shuttup. This hurts my head as much as trying to get an Epson printer to work, but yes, I do feel, war has arrived and we should somehow have plans in place. The ability to carry our wealth around in such a scenario on a phone or whatever, seems a sensible idea. But is it enough?

titleDuel. A very short story
bodyThe challenge was to write a short story in less than 500 words. My girlfriend and I both do ghostwriting and like to challenge each other. Duel Zovaran leaned forward in his chair. It was ornate, as a chair for one such as himself should be. Carved from a solid piece of tree that had passed into history two thousand years ago, it was inlaid with the heads and ivory of past conquests. Gold, poured into the inlays glistened in the lights of the flaming torches that were mounted on the dark cavern walls. “Intense isn't it? Total paralysis and the desperation to plead for mercy with a mouth that refuses to utter a single sound? One of my more mundane spells, but on occasion it seems to sit well with me” Zovaran said eying the broke and bleeding man sat slouched in the chair opposite. Red and yellow flashes of colour from the torches and reflections from the huge chair of Zovaran bounced off the face of the victim. “I've had worse” the man replied slowly lifting his head. “To be honest, I was expecting something more elevating. You know? That feeling of total failure and regret just before dying in excruciating agony, but this I think is a bit passe if you don't mine me saying so.” “Passe? Passe? This is nonsense. How are you able to speak mere mortal? I am Zovaran. There is nothing above or below that can compare with my greatness. I shall try again” Zovaran growled. “Well don't rush yourself. Plenty of time to give it another shot if you're feeling so inadequate about it.” the man relied. “There is no time.. Time keeps you moving around your fields on a regular basis. I have no need for your time. We shall try again.” “Well, if you must you must, but can I make a suggestion?” the man replied. Zovaran sneered as he leaned further forward on his chair. “I certainly don't need the advice of a grass eating mortal. I am Zovaran. But speak mortal.. Though it matters nothing to me I shall grant you a moment of your time.” “Well, I was simply going to suggest as you are the all powerful and infallible Zovaran and this spell is so simple and all, why not try it on yourself first? If it works on you it will surely work on me right? What do you have to lose? Certainly not time and I'm not going anywhere soon.” The sound of Zovaran sighing as he mulled the proposal echoed through the dark cavern. “To amuse myself I will. For my amusement of course and not because of your foolish suggestion” Zovaran replied. A large flash and a glow of deep blue pulsating light surrounded Zovaran. “Did it work?” the man in the chair asked. Zovaran sat silently in his chair, gazing ever forward. From behind the chair the man was slouched in stepped Medrick. He took the arm of the bleeding man and eased him over his shoulder. He hated ventriloquism, but it worked.

titleIdiots guide to buying a sailing boat part three
bodyThe really last bit 09 July 2012 The last bit. I'm calling it the last bit, but really it's the first bit because now we are lined up to begin our great adventure and a total lifestyle change. So where were we? I was riding the bucking bronco out on the edge of the moorings. Mystic had been groaning and moaning through the night as her sides were scraped up and down against the wall and I dropped some cushions on the floor and lay there exhausted. I left the hatches open to let the breeze blow through the boat and looked up at the night sky as the lightning flashed in every direction. I'd seen earlier in the marina the rows of other much larger sailboats and was just happy they had more chance of a lightning strike than me. In fact they were the ones that were protecting us from the worst of it. That was dandy, they had the insurance. The storm raged. The wind was just a solid wall that hit like a truck every few minutes. The lightning forked in every direction at once. No big single fork, it exploded and looked like a Tesla coil on overload spreading all over the sky. It was beautiful and powerful and humbling. We'd set off at six the previous morning and neither myself or Mac had had anything to eat or drink since we set off. It was beginning to show so at six the next morning I was ready to go hunting him down. The storm had passed and the boat was pretty much settled just a bit sore around the edges like I was. I'd not really got any idea where I was headed but assumed following the creek up I should come to the marina I was supposed to be at. As I walked along the road I could see all the damage the storm had caused. Tree limbs everywhere and the odd yard that has lost all it's fourth of July furniture. I found the marina and found Mac. He was curled up on the drivers seat surrounded by all the bags and gear we should have offloaded when we got to the boat. He gave a big,"HOLY SHIT and THANK FUCK" grin as he recognised me. I'd gone to the passenger side so I didn't catch a frustrated fist when he saw me. He'd spent most of the night trying to hunt down a phone or a drink or at least something to give him a bit of hope. He got an invite to watch a game on tv but decided to spend the night on a patio lounger watching over the river in the hopes he would see me coming in. he'd eventually gone back to sleep a while in the truck when the storm got bad but when he looked out the windshield he was looking at a huge fir tree that was bending over him. He spent the storm waiting for it to crash right through the roof. We drove down to the 7/11 and loaded ourselves with soda and crappy sandwiches. We got back to Mystic and I went to talk to the marina owner there. He wouldn't budge on the price and as it was still June thought I would be happy to pay for that month as well. Lovely as it was, with a bar, swimming pool and all the amenities I told him to blow it out his ass and we eventually got Mystic to our less desirable but more affordable berth. The owner and the folk there were brilliant. They all came to listen to the story and are all waiting to help get Mystic rebuilt and back one her way to the Bahamas. We done good picking this place. That's pretty much all there is to tell now, apart from the trip home all the gas stations were without power and gas due to the storm. We eventually got home and collapsed into bed. the next day another storm came through and knocked the house next door straight through our downstairs bedroom. It smashed the A/C unit straight onto the bed. The walls are full of asbestos so we have some issues with that. Seems someone is telling us,"Ok you got your boat where you wanted it now get the hell out of this death trap". Some days the Goddess sends less than subtle messages. Next stop Florida. That trip was about ten miles so I reckon we might have a book in the Florida eight hundred mile trip. We made our journey eventually down the icw but I was called back to England to look after my dying mother. We left Mystic and all we owned aboard. i may never see her again. Now, in Portugal, I'm eying up boats. Life is far too short not to fill it with adventures right?

"body": "The really last bit\n09 July 2012\nThe last bit.\nI'm calling it the last bit, but really it's the first bit because now we are lined up to begin our great adventure and a total lifestyle change.\nSo where were we?\nI was riding the bucking bronco out on the edge of the moorings. It was beautiful and powerful and humbling.\nWe'd set off at six the previous morning and neither myself or Mac had had anything to eat or drink since we set off. It was beginning to show so at six the next morning I was ready to go hunting him down. The storm had passed and the boat was pretty much settled just a bit sore around the edges like I was.\nI'd not really got any idea where I was headed but assumed following the creek up I should come to the marina I was supposed to be at. As I walked along the road I could see all the damage the storm had caused. Tree limbs everywhere and the odd yard that has lost all it's fourth of July furniture.\nI found the marina and found Mac. He was curled up on the drivers seat surrounded by all the bags and gear we should have offloaded when we got to the boat.\nHe gave a big,\"HOLY SHIT and THANK FUCK\" grin as he recognised me. I'd gone to the passenger side so I didn't catch a frustrated fist when he saw me.\nHe'd spent most of the night trying to hunt down a phone or a drink or at least something to give him a bit of hope. He spent the storm waiting for it to crash right through the roof.\nWe drove down to the 7/11 and loaded ourselves with soda and crappy sandwiches. We got back to Mystic and I went to talk to the marina owner there. He wouldn't budge on the price and as it was still June thought I would be happy to pay for that month as well. Lovely as it was, with a bar, swimming pool and all the amenities I told him to blow it out his ass and we eventually got Mystic to our less desirable but more affordable berth.\nThe owner and the folk there were brilliant. They all came to listen to the story and are all waiting to help get Mystic rebuilt and back one her way to the Bahamas. We done good picking this place.\nThat's pretty much all there is to tell now, apart from the trip home all the gas stations were without power and gas due to the storm. We eventually got home and collapsed into bed. the next day another storm came through and knocked the house next door straight through our downstairs bedroom. It smashed the A/C unit straight onto the bed. The walls are full of asbestos so we have some issues with that. Seems someone is telling us,\"Ok you got your boat where you wanted it now get the hell out of this death trap\". Some days the Goddess sends less than subtle messages.\nNext stop Florida. That trip was about ten miles so I reckon we might have a book in the Florida eight hundred mile trip.\nWe made our journey eventually down the icw but I was called back to England to look after my dying mother. We left Mystic and all we owned aboard. i may never see her again.\nNow, in Portugal, I'm eying up boats. Life is far too short not to fill it with adventures right?",

titleAn Idiots guide to buying a sailing boat part two
bodyTaken from my blog again. I left a pic for you on the blog today steemit xx Part three. Thought I'd write this sat in the bath. All this water helps me remember hehehe Ok lets move down the river a couple of hours. apart from it being dark and the passing dredgers it was just a slow boat ride. Off in the distance, I could see the shape of two headlands meeting. I was pretty sure my marina was on one of then so point and shoot and on we go. Eventually I saw the first flashing red marker. I lined up with the headland and the tower I'd noted earlier and decided that was good enough for me. good enough in it was red and it blinked and seemed like a good place to be a light. I trudged on and eventually saw the marina lights. I knew I was low on fuel and fortunately low on draft so i short cut up to the marked passage. I was about 100 yards away from the markers when BANG !!!< the sodding engine slipped off the ropes and smacked into the rudder. I was floating around like a spare dick at a prostitutes wedding with nowhere to go. Out in the river I heard the gentle groan of a high powered engine. I turned on my useless phone and waved the light at them. " Going my way?" I asked politely. "ARE you in difficulties sir" came the reply.OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH SHIT !!!!!!! It's the coasties. "Ahem, yes sir I seem to have got meself stuck here and have no steering or power, any chance of a little tow?" "Stand by sir we shall review the situation. Do you have a life jacket sir". "Yer of course I do"...."Could you put the jacket on sir". Well no I couldn't because I didn't have one. I actually had sod all but a big stupid grin. They towed me into the nearest point on the marina and began their 500 point boat inspection. These are the inspections that land you fines of thousands of dollars, boats impounded and general upset in your day. "So this is gonna cost me how much?" I asked one of the crew as I flopped down on the cockpit seat and rolled a cig. It was game over of course. "Dunno sir, that's the skipper has to deal with that". The skipper returns. "Ok Simon, I'm writing you up for a warning this time. Get all that gear sorted and don't let me see you back on that river 'til everything is done" I was close to tears. Not sure whether to laugh or cry, but too damn tired to do either. "Ya kiddin right?" "No Simon, your story just broke my heart, now lets try and find your buddy". They tried every phone number they could and were even prepared to get me a taxi to go find Mac. I declined but thanked them profusely, by laying on the ground and licking their boots . I'll never ever have a bad word to say about the coastguard again. Final bit. As I mentioned before, for you meteorologist types, there is a reason why wind starts to gradual increase over a given period. It usually means there is one mother of a storm following it. I had been tied up to the outside wall of the nearest marina to the entrance. The mooring lines I had were a bit on the knackered side but I was there. Job well and truly completed. But, before the coasties left, they mentioned something in passing. "You might want to get battened down and check your lines, there's a bit of a thunderstorm on it's way later". Later turned out to be about fifteen minutes. Like a sensible chap, I got the sails stowed and the covers on and ran out a few more lines I could find. "OK, lets go find Mac and get some food and a damn drink, I got a throat like a camels ass in a sandstorm" I said to myself. I said it to myself because there was nobody else there and I tend to ramble to myself like an idiot. I had no real clue where I was so I just set off following the road nearest the creek. I'd gone about half a mile when it started. First the wind, then those huge drops of rain like some elephant is crapping on your head. I turned round and ran. By the time I got to the boat she was leaping about in the water like a salmon on crack. I jumped aboard and slammed the hatch cover over. Then I heard the grinding. We were getting pounded up the transom by huge waves that were lifting us up and dropping us like a rock. At the same time the side of the boat was grinding against the wall. No fenders. Shit. I grabbed one of the couch cushions and sprang outside. Sprang as in ripping my legs to shreds as I missed and slid down the steep steps. Got back up and got outside. It was howling now and the rain was just some old dude throwing buckets of water at me. I was totally soaked to the skin. I rammed the cushion between the boat and the wall and for about an hour sat there playing human fender.I decided I felt a bit of a nipple sat out in the rain like that so I dragged one of the jib sheets down and tied the cushion to that. Then, the only bit of safety equipment worth showing the coasties, my horseshoe life ring got rammed in there as a fender too. I got back inside and Mystic and myself spent the next couple of hours flying up and down and holding onto each other. If you ever fancy paying a few thousand to go to Disney, forget it. Just get a ride on a boat tied to a wall in a storm. an experience for all the family. Final final part later

titleIdiots guide to buying a sailing boat
bodyLet's begin at the beginning, which was about nine months ago. That's when we bought Mystic. A beautiful boat that needs a lot of TLC. Both of us being sick, financial problems and a myriad of other issues stopped the plan right there and poor Mystic was left to wallow, waiting for us to go see her and give her a new life. Well. that day arrived on Friday 30th June 2012. Mcinley, our neighbour, volunteered to come with me on the loooong drive down and he was to pick me up once I reached the marina in the boat. The other bit of the plan was that the former owner was to come with me to ensure I knew where everything was and how to treat this special lady. We arrived around 3pm, both exhausted, thirsty and ready for a rest. No such luck. The old owner wanted to be on the way now and could only take me as far as the cut into the river. "We can leave tomorrow ya know, we aren't really sorted for today" I suggested. "Noooo, I got to be somewhere at 5'30 and we're moving out tomorrow" he replied. Sooooooo, Simon being Simon, I climbed aboard after giving Mac some directions and a couple of cigs. This was a 2 hour trip right? so no big deal. Untied and off we set. The engine purred and we cruised sweetly down to the cut. "Ok let's get these sails up", and in a few minutes we were racing along under sail. The Centaur was never designed to be a race boat and isn't famous for it's speed, but with no big diesel to slow it down and a bowsprit added with a large genoa she set off on a broad reach like a racehorse. After a few, we hove to and Rob got into his kayak. "You'll be fine now and I gotta go to my meeting" he said. "Erm, I haven't been on a boat in over ten year mate. I could really use you to see me down the river". With a cheery wave he left. How hard can it be right? It's only a boat on a beautiful sunny day with a gentle breeze. Ten minutes in that breeze was picking up and fifteen minutes in there was a huge THUD !!!! as I realised I couldn't move the tiller. With no steering that huge Genny was dragging the boat wherever it wanted to go and nowhere I wanted to go. I looked over the transom to see what the bang had been. The engine bracket had snapped in half and was pretty much hanging by one bolt and the rope winch to the transom. I was in a bit of a poo situation. But it was sunny. I looked for some suitable rope and lashed the engine on tighter but the prop was almost under the boat hitting the rudder. I fired it up. The faster it ran the deeper it would bite down under the boat. Bit of a dilemma. By this time I'd dropped all sail and was just drifting around. I eventually got some more rope around the engine and if I kept the revs low I could gently move the tiller and steer. So, there I were, doing about 2 knots toward the marina some miles down the river. Time ticked along. I worked my way to the huge bridge I was using as about my middle of trip point. I gazed at it longingly and the bleeding thing never got any closer. Sloooowly I inched my way under it. "Thank fuck for that" I yelled, looking round and grinning like a prat at nobody at all. It was a milestone at least so I rewarded myself by rolling a cig. Rolling a cig or going down to look at the chart on my laptop took long enough for the boat to wander off in a totally different direction so I would slow the revs to realign and then rev back up to get going again. Part deux, I had got under the bridge. Boats buzz round this all day without a thought, but for me it was one hell of a milestone. I plodded along, tugging on my well earned ciggy and then I spotted the fins. Ok I know there aren't sharks in this river so it wasn't a panic. Just totally elation at seeing a pod of dolphins. Too excited about the view and the experience I jumped down into the cabin for the camera. The little bleeders decided they were camera shy and disappeared. I shot a couple of minutes of film though and went through the ritual of slowing the engine, lining up my bow back on course and then easing up the revs to the point the prop wasn't eating through the boat. Ok, so wind usually increases for a reason. The odd gusty blow now and then is not the same as a steadily rising wind. This will all become apparent later and dropping the sails had been wiser than I knew. It was getting dark. Come 8 'O' clock poor Mac had been sat waiting four or five hours now and we had no way to contact each other. I plodded on. This of course was going to be an all in daylight sail so as night began to fall I realised I had no navigation lights. Actually I had no power at all and nowhere to recharge the laptop which had already given me the ten minute warning of imminent battery death. "Shit !!" I thought to myself. I was reckoning on another couple of hours at this speed and took a long look at the chart on the laptop to try and memorise the lights and the headland I needed. If you've ever been on a boat looking at land at night you will understand that all those well placed markers just disappear into the shore lights and are as much use as tits on a fish. To add to it, the locals were celebrating some sort of baseball win and were firing off fireworks all over the place. Basically I could see fuck all of any use but did enjoy the rockets. They spent some money on em that's for sure.( Note to the people of Berwind: two Roman candles and some detonators you stole from the mining company do not count as a firework display). So on I plodded. I could make out the land on both sides, I located the light on a tower and I was happy enough. Part three later. I need a long bath and tylonol.

Rolling a cig or going down to look at the chart on my laptop took long enough for the boat to wander off in a totally different direction so I would slow the revs to realign and then rev back up to get going again.\n\nPart deux,\nI had got under the bridge. I shot a couple of minutes of film though and went through the ritual of slowing the engine, lining up my bow back on course and then easing up the revs to the point the prop wasn't eating through the boat.\nOk, so wind usually increases for a reason. The odd gusty blow now and then is not the same as a steadily rising wind. This will all become apparent later and dropping the sails had been wiser than I knew.\nIt was getting dark. \"Shit !!\" I thought to myself. I could make out the land on both sides, I located the light on a tower and I was happy enough.\nPart three later. I need a long bath and tylonol.",
