It is sponsored by eToro as one of their corporate social responsibility intiatives.</center>\n##### <center>At its very essence, UBI provides a guaranteed minimum income to everybody regardless of their circumstances or work history and allowing them to afford the cost of their basic needs. While the idea flourished in Sir Thomas Moore's Utopia, it has failed to gain traction with the conventional governments here in the real world. Fortunately, the advancement of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency has leapt in to fill the void.</center>\n<center>![](https://images.hive.blog/DQmfJJ5bG2Pwiou1ohwR1ZLyiktwc2EaLQcJiya12zRCyru/image.png)<p><sub>[Gooddollar's adaptation of UBI](https://www.gooddollar.org/what-is-basic-income/)</sub></center>\n##### <center>As a point of comparison, we will look at 2 blockchain-based UBI projects in this article, [Mannabase](https://www.mannabase.com/) and [SwiftDemand](https://www.swiftdemand.com/). Both are online platforms which provide their unique cryptocurrency (or digital currency) as a regular basic income to their users. Neither of their currencies are backed by any form of assets or fiat currency. This means that neither Manna nor Swifts have any inherent value. Instead, their value is determined by the free market. In the case of Swifts, there is no available market hence its value cannot be determined. Manna, on the otherhand, can be traded on [SouthXchange](https://www.southxchange.com/Market/Book/MANNA/BTC) where it is worth USD0.0026165 according to [CoinGecko](https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/manna).</center>\n##### <center>Unlike Mannabase and SwiftDemand, Gooddollar (G$ )is an ERC-20 token backed by a reserve system (the GoodReserve [Smart Contract](https://etherscan.io/address/0x5C16960F2Eeba27b7de4F1F6e84E616C1977e070)). The reserve currently comprises USD6,884.73 worth of Compound DAI (cDAI) and Compound (COMP). The price of 1 G$ is initially set at USD0.0001. However, this is expected to vary after launch based on supply and demand.</center>\n##### <center>A variable amount of G$ is minted everyday, depending on the amount of interest moved into the GoodReserve and the Reserve Ratio (ratio between assets in GoodReserve vs G$ in circulation). The supply of G$ is capped at 2.2 trillion. Any unclaimed G$ after 11:40:11GMT will be added to the pool for the next cycle.</center>\n##### <center>Gooddollar does not have a referral system. Indeed, there is no advantage to be had by introducing a whole busload of friends, family, neighbours or strangers to Gooddollar. In fact, it might even be a serious disadvantage since the amount of G$ you can claim every day decreases in proportion to the number of active members.</center>\n##### <center> To put it simply, the more people you invite, the lesser G$ you get.</center>\n##### <center>But whether you share this project with your friends or not, you are more than welcome to join the 5,791 (according to Gooddollar's website) claimants on Gooddollar. By hard capping YFI tokens at 30,000 without the ability to mint more, Andre Conje may be hoping to stop people from farming YFI and possibly manipulating or sabotaging Yearn.Finance's governance systems.</center>\n##### <center>More importantly, scarcity is often accompanied by price hikes. The Flare Network, as it called, is touted as the world's first Turing complete Federated Byzantine Agreement (FBA) network.</center>\n##### <center>Spark tokens will be required for operation of the Flare Network. In total, 100 billion Spark tokens will be created via a 1:1 utility fork of XRP. 25 billion tokens will be earmarked for Flare Networks Limited and 30 billion for Flare Foundation (a non-profit organisation). The remaining 45 billion tokens will be airdropped to XRP holders (excluding known Ripple Lab addresses).</center>\n##### <center>At the time of this post, [3 exchanges](https://flare.xyz/supporting-exchanges/)have announced their support of the airdrop. XRP holders holding funds in non-supported exchanges or custodial wallets will need to transfer their funds to a self-custody wallet before the snapshot, which will [take place on 12 December 2020](https://twitter.com/yassanxrp/status/1300668752913027072?s=20).</center>\n##### <center>XRP holders will have 6 months from the date of the snapshot to claim their Spark tokens before they are burned. Despite a rocky start, BCH managed to hit an ATH of nearly USD4,000 in December 2017. It is currently ranked number 5 on both CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko with a market cap of USD 5.6 billion. It has a market cap of USD811 million and is ranked 26 and 28 on CoinMarketCap and Coingecko respectively.In August 2020, ETC [announced](https://twitter.com/Bitquery_io/status/1291039847088496640?s=20) that it had been a victim of a 51% attack which resulted in the double-spending of 807,260 ETC worth approximately USD5.6 million. ETH adopted the hard fork while the original chain was rebranded to ETC. Ranked number 2 on both CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko, ETH has a market cap of USD44 billion. The growing popularity of decentralised finance (DeFi) and decentralised applications (DApps) on the ETH platform as well as increased usage of Tether (USDT) has caused a recent surge in transaction fees. With a market cap of USD12 million, GUSD is available for trading on a number of exchanges. In 2019, a lack of activity on the LTC Github account and a sharp drop in hashrate raised concerns that the coin had been abandoned. PAXG holders can check the serial number of their physical gold by entering their Ethereum wallet address on the PAXG [website](https://www.paxos.com/paxgold/). The token has a market cap of USD57 million and is currently trading at approximately USD2,000. XRP was created as a digital currency for use in real time gross settlement, exchange and money transfer systems. In total, 100 billion XRP were created. 1 billion XRP were released for sale on 1 August 2020 and the current circulating supply is approximately 44.8 billion. There are a number of ongoing lawsuits regarding XRP.</center>\n<center></center>\n## <center>Conclusion</center>\n##### <center>While there may be arguments made for the addition of USDT due to its widespread usage, it is important to note that all stablecoins on the Greenlist are regulated by the DFS. USDT is not one of them and will probably never be unless a full audit of the company's USD reserves is conducted.
