      "body": "A leisurely afternoon on a wind-blown Bahamas day seems like a great time for a walk around your AirBnb to say hello to the cast of characters that dot the dirt filled streets of this lil neighborhood. \n\nI am always interested in the cultures, how people live, seeing them in their natural state.....away from the fake-ness that oozes in the hubs of these tourist towns....today, I will get a \" hands-on \" experience \" of just this very thing....\n\nLinda is a gracious woman, runs her little enterprise here on Bel-Dock St, doesn't smile nearly enough, though flows into this scene while her neighbor slowly carves out a drainage ditch and their friend continues to work on the car that doesn't look like it has moved in a decade.....a couple of cats look at me like some of the neighbor folk - who is that \"Gringo\" and what is he doing here? \n\nEveryone seems very friendly on this island in the Caribbean, \" Hey Mon \" and \" Good Day \" pepper their sentences as it gives you the notion that you are welcome.......maybe that is why I turned the corner so leisurely......\n\nKids playing on a makeshift play structure - swinging on swings and laughing at nothing distract me from the blacked out house on the corner with weeds growing halfway up the boarded up windows littered with cars and..........dogs......lots of angry dogs. \n\nThey criss-crossed the property with reckless abandon, hell bent on announcing their presence with authority as their \"canines\" gleamed in the afternoon sun........they all had one thing on their mind.........me.\n\nSee, I had unknowingly gotten way too close to \" their \" house as I enjoyed a gorgeous Caribbean day and now I was gonna pay for it.....\n\nThe first 2 charged at me with fangs snarled and tails raised but as they got near they looked backed at the \" leaders \" to see if they were following as I made my move..........slowly away from the now known neighborhood blight. The leaders egged them on, howling and snarling and charging forth - the pack mentality has started to set in as they all look at each other for reassurance - while I am looking for the cleanest exit out of there.....\n\nIf there is one thing I learned in the Marines is that when chaos is abound - it is the ones that are calm, collective, read the situation, and slow things down that make it out......don't overreact. \n\nI make it slowly to the middle of the street not engaging or threatening the bravest of them as he nips at my heels but stops in his tracks......he has no backup, just a lot of noise from the porch and unfinished dirt piles of the corner lot.......the barking fades as my heart rate stabilizes as I start to smirk...and realize....\n\nTheir job has been done. I am no longer a threat to the house. They will eat another day. \n\nI stroll back to my place, full of story telling and see Linda out front tending to her property. As I tell her my escapades from down the block, she looks at me and says....\n\n\" I would've told you that \"Mon\" , we know what goes on down there.......\" \n\n Still without a smile :)",

      "body": "Sitting here in the lobby of the Hyatt ( San Diego Style ) I am looking at all these \" journalist \" types running around and trying to look busy - why they make up some \" Hot Tip \" they got from a supposed insider - it is comedic really........ \nWhen they do \" break \" a story and get it right they puff out their chest and \" glad hand \" fellow scribes and hanger-ons - but more often than not ( I would say 90 % conservatively ) when they get it wrong ( Gerrit Cole to the Angels comes to immediate mind ) nobody calls them on it........\n\n Just the world we live in now I suppose........it all starts at the top - we don't really trust anyone anymore.....too many Indians with opinions and not enough legitimate Chiefs \n\n Fascinating to say the least.......a lot of self important people here......that aren't really all that important :) \n\n Breaking News!!!! And it makes, even more, sense - allow me to explain...\n\n  Throwing away the tired excuse of \" this is just an old man yelling at clouds\", if you were to look up from your Twitter or Instagram account you would notice that we are being deprived of human interaction every step of this new era and it is causing a sense of loneliness and despair not seen in modern times - this is no different on a football field these days. \n\n  I recently went to a high school football game where the pace of the offense was so quick that the boys ran up to line immediately after the play was over to pretend to hike the ball, only to all raise up at the same time and look over to the coach and 3 knuckleheads with pre-arranged cardboard signs making idiots of themselves as they \"call\" the play so that everyone can see - an exhausting sequence that is continued ON EVERY PLAY.\n\n  The players don't feel together because they are not together.\n\n  There is something to be said for looking in your teammates' eyes and feeling a part of something bigger than yourself, working together as a team, one unit moving forward, all on the same page and all playing for one another. \n\n   This is impossible with these \"high tech\" offenses now - we think we are moving forward and progressing - \n\n   What we are really doing is growing farther apart, becoming more self-involved, and less human.\n\n   Herm is right......We Need to Huddle.",

The fact that he beat 4 guys in a professional golf tournament doesn't surprise me as much as it amuses me :) I mean, it's Golf folks, the ball doesn't move and millions play the game until they fall over on a Florida golf course. That's how \"niche\" it is.\n\n  So that being said, I couldn't help but wonder........who these 4 guys were?? And.........\n\nHow would you like to be one of these guys beaten by our \"Golden Ace\" here in the Bay? It's one thing to have a bad day on those links, but, dam man, you do this for a living! \n\n  That's like me walking into your job, showing you how to do it, and then sauntering off to lunch with your boss and her secretary to that place off the boardwalk that you've always wanted to go to......But I'm going.\n\n  I have wondered since the day that Steph received that sponsor exemption to the web.com tour ( brought to you by the \"internet of things\" and of course....Budweiser ) how it would feel to lose to an amateur after playing this game your entire life. At least he can say to his grandkids, \" Grandpa once got beat by Stephen Curry on the links.....yes, that Stephen Curry, the guy with more Championship rings than fingers on 1 hand\" :)  So he has that going for him......\n\n \n\n  Doug Letson - Turned Pro in 2013, 0 career victories, has made 22K in career earnings, and hasn't made a cut this year.......but has a degree in Economics.....which will be coming in handy pretty damn soon if he doesn't start putting the ball into its \"home\" :) \n\n \n\n   Matthew Goggin - this Aussie turned pro in 1995 and has 5 career victories! Not to mention a nice tidy sum of 1.4M in career earnings..........what the hell happened Matt! Maybe he just felt sorry for us Americans over here.......I don't blame him, I feel sorry for us too :) \n\n \n\n   Colt McNealy - first of all, that name rubs me the wrong way; a sort of an \"elitist\" bent that sounds like he grew up on a country club fairway. I can't get the image of \"Shooter McGavin\" out of my head and I've never even seen a picture of this \"Colt\" guy.........I bet you he has a brother named Maverick...........Wait, he does!!       "body": "![IMG_20170415_185859197_HDR.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmVRDGp1T6EjcMUhG6bRJV6f8LymMeqgNwDe7VGiuiQmGD/IMG_20170415_185859197_HDR.jpg)\n\nAfter a few spontaneous hours of contemplation, a thought here........a couple more there - I devised a route that has the needle pointed south, where just outside my fair city a new world of abundant greens and rolling waves accompany you on an easy jaunt down the coast. A welcome reprieve from the hectic day to day that has accompanied my last few months...........we are heading to Whale City :)  \n\n                                                                                          \n\nThrough the familiar and into the new; exciting it is, the unknown that is - passing local stands pushing their days fruit onto suspecting tourists while the cows dot the lush landscape in the distance. Beaches after beautiful beaches are quite magnificent in their power, yet peaceful in their grace.\n\n   I'm taken with a spot on the coast, homey in feel, local in nature, but touristy by sight. \n\n   Upon entering I ask a surly gentleman setting up the music for the evening \" What might that book you are reading be about? \" It's intriguing and inquisitive at the same time - he proceeds to tell me he hasn't started it yet and tries to explain the premise but I am now disinterested, so I find a corner spot on the outdoor patio overlooking the mighty Pacific, and take in a cloudless afternoon on the vaunted Highway 1\n  \n\n  Steve, the gentleman starting his book, is nice enough to let me recharge my phone as I munch on a Greek salad with avocado ( no olives please ) and a Strawberry shake.......an odd pair you might think, but I'm not much of a foodie - so I am extremely content with it's sharp contrast; In fact, I now understand how much variety I do like and that I need..............thus this trip down the forbidden yet revealing coast :) \n\n   The patrons are filling in more and more as happy hour and a beautiful day go hand-in-hand. An eclectic lot, not to be unexpected in a beach town - though all, including myself, are quite comfortable while soaking up the glorious rays in the process. \n\n   Large dogs and foreign tongues fill the patio as I leisure here in the corner, enjoying the ambiance, the slow Hawaiian music, and the time to write.....oh how I miss it :) The key to happiness and livelihood is taking care of one's self - and this patio on the Pacific is working that magic :) \n\n   I drop a \"5\" into Steve's bucket as I saunter past his \"set\", thanks for the hospitality and tunes man..........I must be on my way, there are new adventures waiting........ The Whale City Diner has been superb.........",
