She is known to be gifted in teaching. Children always love to be in her class because of her interesting illustrations and display of appropriate visuals. Because of her skillfulness, she is popularly called “lya ewe” meaning, the mother of children. So, her car is always filled with all kinds: of images (wooden, metal, paper, and plastic of various shapes and colours), toys, fruits both fresh and dried. According to her, the use of visuals as teaching aids helps children to understand the lesson better than merely teaching without any representation.

A parable is a sort of extended metaphor or story, a comparison which illustrates spiritual truths with familiar objects. Jesus Christ, the Great Teacher, taught His people different parables about the kingdom of God. He spoke in parables because of the spiritual dullness of the people (Matthew 13: 10-15; Luke 8:4), and to fulfil the prophecy of Prophet Isaiah which says, “I will use parables when I speak to them; I will tell them things unknown since the creation of the world” (v. 14). Particularly, chapter 13 of the gospel of Matthew records 7 parables which teach and explain some lessons about the kingdom of God. Today’s lesson focuses on the fact that we shall all reap what we have sown, whether good or bad.

THE LESSON EXPLAINED

A. The Good Seeds and the Wheat Matthew 13:24-26

The parable of the weeds among the wheat is the second parable Jesus told in this chapter. He likened the kingdom of heaven to a man who sowed good seed on his field. While everyone was asleep at night, the enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat. Because time will always show the true nature of everything, the two plants sprouted, and both the weeds and the wheat become recognisable. In Jesus’ explanation of the parable, the one who sowed good seed is the Son of Man, that is, Jesus Himself. The field is the world, the good seed sown are people of the kingdom, the weeds are people of the world, and the enemy who sowed the weeds is the Devil.

The implication of this parable is that believers are kingdom people and are bound to live in this world with sinners and wicked people. However, we must live as citizens of heaven in the kingdom of this world, sprouting as good seeds with godly fruit of righteousness (1 John 2:15-17). Just as the wheat and weeds were distinct in their appearance, the world should be able to identify Christians by their fruits, which should be void of hypocrisy. We must ask for the grace to co-exist with evil in the world, especially in our immediate society and workplace while we maintain the goodness of the godly nature in us without being contaminated or corrupted in the world. Applying this grace must also be done with the understanding that our chief enemy who placed the weeds around us is the Devil. We must, therefore, resist him so that he will flee from us.

DISCUSSION TIME

1. How can we identify genuine Christians and hypocritical people or wicked ones around us?

2. Discuss some of the ways the Devil deceives and destroys God’s good plans and purposes for His people today and how to avoid such strategies.

B. The Harvest of Weeds and the Wheat Matthew 13:27-30

According to verse 27, the servants were shocked at the appearance of the weeds among the wheat and out of curiosity asked the master, “Sir, didn‘t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’ The good seeds represent the righteous and the weeds are the evil or unrighteous people planted mischievously by the Devil. Obviously, the weed planted among the wheat was the handiwork of the enemy to destroy the good work of the owner of the field. The servant immediately sought permission to pull out the weeds but the master would rather allow both to grow to full maturity before separation. The reason for his decision was the fear of mistakenly uprooting the wheat alongside the weed. Then, while the weeds are tied in bundles to be burned, the wheat will be gathered for storage (v. 30).

This parable is meant to teach that the ‘children of the evil one’, which symbolise the weeds are destined for damnation with no opportunity to change their destiny. The phrase “while everyone else was asleep,” shows the determination of the enemy to frustrate the good plans and purpose of God for His people. Though the wheat and weeds would be allowed to grow together in the same field and under the same weather condition, they would not have equal fate. Ultimately while the weeds would be gathered in bundles and be burnt, the wheat would be stored safely in the barn for future use. The harvest refers to the end of age, which will be executed by angels (harvesters). The important lessons are:

• The good seed symbolise the righteous.

• The reaping of the unrighteous symbolises the judgment of God that will be meted out by fire, which will result in weeping.

• At the end of time, the co-existence of believers and unbelievers will end.

DISCUSSION TIME

1. What does the decision of the owner tell us about God? (1 Peter 3:9)

2. What moral lesson should we keep in mind in light of the separation of the righteous and evil?

C. The Parable of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast. Matthew 13:31-33

Jesus did not relent in His effort to make known the nature of the kingdom of heaven to the people. As He continued in His teaching, He used different analogies to illustrate and drive home His point for the sake of clarity. As it is seen in the passage, He told them another parable. Just like the parable of the weeds, Jesus likened the kingdom of heaven to a man who planted a mustard seed in his field. The mustard seed, according to verse 32, is the smallest of all seeds but it usually turns out to be the biggest of all plants that its branches accommodate the birds of the air. Furthermore, Jesus described the kingdom of heaven and likened it to a woman who mixes some quantity of yeast until the whole dough of flour rises (v.33). The ancient equivalent of yeast was a lump of leavened dough saved from the previous baking of bread whereby a small quantity will easily make a large quantity of flour rise. Though the word yeast in the Scripture is most times used to mean corruption or evil that pervades the whole, it here represents the secret way the kingdom of God will spread. Jesus was particularly interested in making people understand the nature of His kingdom and what it takes to enter into it.

Some people, however, believe that these parables teach about the combination of the evil and righteousness in the church while others see it as a vivid image of the startling growth and spread of God’s kingdom. However, it is certain that this parable explains the small beginning of Christ’s kingdom, its gradual and unnoticeable growth in the individual and eventually the transforming power of the Gospel in individual lives and nations, which is God’s purpose and plan for the church. Even though the spread of the Gospel may seem slow, it will definitely spread through the world. In addition, the reference to birds perching on the tree may indicate that people of different social, ethnic, racial, economic and religious backgrounds will find rest in it.

DISCUSSION TIME

1.What truth do these parables reveal about the kingdom of God?

2. Discuss some hindrances to the spread of the Gospel and the roles of the Church in the spread of the Gospel.

3. Describe the different ways Christians can influence their communities for the sake of spreading the gospel message to unbelievers.

|

The important lessons are:
\n
• The good seed symbolise the righteous.
\n
• The reaping of the unrighteous symbolises the judgment of God that will be meted out by fire, which will result in weeping.
\n
• At the end of time, the co-existence of believers and unbelievers will end.
\n

\n
DISCUSSION TIME
\n
1. What does the decision of the owner tell us about God? (1 Peter 3:9)
\n
2. What moral lesson should we keep in mind in light of the separation of the righteous and evil?
\n

\n
C. The Parable of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast. Matthew 13:31-33
\n
\n

\n
\n

\n
DISCUSSION TIME
\n
1.What truth do these parables reveal about the kingdom of God?
\n
2. Discuss some hindrances to the spread of the Gospel and the roles of the Church in the spread of the Gospel.
\n
3. Describe the different ways Christians can influence their communities for the sake of spreading the gospel message to unbelievers.
\n
",

| title | FROM IBADAN TO WASHIGNTON DC |
| body |

need to stand up for yourself and take charge of your own life. That is what I can say my story is about. I was progressing from JSS class into SS class when my father called me and said ‘You have to go to the science class’. Just like that. He didn’t ask for my opinion, he didn’t care if I had an interest in businesses or humanities. In my house, it was almost like you were not a part of the family if you were not in the Sciences.Fast forward to my SS2, my father asked me to take the WAEC exam. For me, I had believed that if I could make it into the university, I would be free to do what I really wanted to do so I wanted to make my papers at once and advance into the university. When the result came out, I had just 2 credits, the rest were D7s, E8s and F9s. The month that result was released was the month I cried the most in my life. You know the way African parents are na, my father was disappointed and he did not spare any opportunity to rub it in. If he sent me on an errand and I returned a second late, he would turn it all round and say that was why I failed my WAEC in SS2.Eventually, I moved past that. When it was time to write JAMB in my SS3, my father purchased the form himself, filled it himself, and signed it himself. He filled the school I would go and all the courses I would study. It was his decision that I should study Mining – a course which I had no interest in at all. Dad’s decision for my life was final and Mining it was. No one could do anything about it. At the Post UTME, the cut-off for Mining was 65% in FUTA, I scored 56% or so – that meant that I couldn’t get in for Mining.I took the change of course form and had to go back to my dad to choose a new course for me since he would never just let me make my own decisions myself. In the end, I laid out the options before him and we chose Materials & Metallurgical Engineering. My dad had no idea what that was neither did I. In the end, I was admitted for Building. My father didn’t like that and so he was of the strong view I should write JAMB again. For me, where my heart really was was in Computer Science but my father wouldn’t hear it.About that time, I met a young man who knew about my interest in computers. It was this young man who advised me that since I could take computer-certification courses outside the FUTA curriculum, I should take the Building program and that I should run certification programs in computer while studying Building in school.I heeded the advice and that decision was going to change my life forever.. “I focused on my certification programs and developed an apathy towards Building. I didn’t tell my father about my plans to take the certification programs from the start. Instead, I told my mom – she was more supportive and open. At the end of my first semester, I had a GP of 2.87 and my second semester I had a GP of 2.4 or something like that. My CGPA at the end of my first year was 2.57 or so. It was low like that. It was at the end of my 100 level that my father found out that I had been taking certification programs. My father was totally displeased that I ended my first year with a Second Class lower. For me, it didn’t look so bad at the time since I was studying Building just to get a certificate. As far as my certification programs were going on well, I was good. Once again, just like the post-GCE experience, my father did not hide his displeasure at my result and the whole ‘computer jargons’ that I was obsessed about.Going into my second year, I knew I needed my space to be able to make my own decisions and prove to my father that I could make something out of myself even without his control and to prove that I wasn’t a dullard. I rented a place to stay in Akure and so I never came home during holidays. In order to supplement what I got as allowance, I worked with software-related brands as an intern because I wasn’t a professional at the time. It was in my 200 level that I started my own software development company. It was a really small company.By 300 level, I had begun to work on a platform called Fiverr. On Fiverr, I met someone who worked at a software development company in the US called The Coding Faculty. He was one of their engineers. I offered to volunteer with them. I was given the chance to work with their engineering team remotely and I did that all through my 300 level. Going into my 400 level, I worked remotely with a data-analysis and software development company based in India. For me, things were about to change.I ditched the thought of building a platform and just focused on my small company. Then, a few friends challenged me to build the platform and offered to handle the administrative and logistics aspect. I built the platform on WordPress in November 2015. It was supposed to be a platform where students can check the database of companies in need of interns and then they could go ahead and apply. The dream was never to be a platform where employers and prospective interns could meet and seal deals right there. We called it Buddify.com.ngIn the first month that we launched the platform, we had about 40,000 views. The second month, we had 100,000 views. The analytics kept increasing month after month. By then I was overwhelmed by this and so I shut down the small company and focused on the new project of connecting students with internship slots. As time went on, things kept changing. Traction increased. In the end, the platform because a place where real connections happened. In the sixth month, a mail came in from someone at ITF and the mail was basically appreciating us for the innovation we’d brought into easing internship placements. We started meeting the heads of internship units of different companies, we started collaborating with brands as a platform for them to source for interns, we sealed partnership deals like organizations like the Industrial Training Fund (ITF). On and on like that, it grew. Till we eventually changed the name to @placement.ng.We had 5000 users at the start and we had 200 successful connections. Placement.ng is almost 2 years old and right now, we have almost 4,000 successful internship connections. We have about 27,000 interns connected to the platform now and we have hundreds of thousands of views every month. I never thought I could start a company and run it up unto its current stature. We may not have millions of naira but seeing the platform provide solutions to both students and employers is the fire that keeps us going. In December 2017, Placement.ng was among the top 30 selected start-ups out of 250+ in Africa by the MAKE IT Accelerator supported by the German International Cooperation (GIZ), Endeva and CcHub. The Make IT Accelerator support is about Promoting digital Innovations for sustainable and inclusive economic growth. In the next few months we would be supported with resources, mentors and networks provided by the German government. Now, my father is beginning to see the success behind the ‘computer jargon’ that he never wanted me to delve into in the first place. Now he has some faith in me that, really, I knew what I was doing and that I wasn’t just fooling around with computers anymore.I look back now, if I had followed the path my father had laid out for me, I wouldn’t have been able to create a platform solving such big problems for people. Placement.ng is why we landed in the Tribune newspaper. If I had studied Mining engineering like my dad wanted me to, maybe I’ll be doing my masters degree now and I’ll still be calling home for pocket money. I’ll never have broken free to find my path. As for me, Placements has given me a leverage – I have something to show everywhere I go. I go something to show that I can do.And, yes, my 100 level grade was my worst in the university. Every semester after that was a hit back to back. In fact, in my 500 level alone, I had a GP of a first class grade.”

|

\n
",

I was even called "damsel" *winks*. There was this popular song back then ☝"Denge Pose" I loved dancing to it then but most of time this song was sung by several people to directly or indirectly mock others. I sometimes laughed or felt pity for whoever the song was pointing at. How many people are aware that the situations around them is saying the same lyrics everyday, every month, every year? Here is a question and answer session between your present situation and you. Situation: Wetin you get? (What do You have)? You: I get everything. (I have everything) After all, I am alive. Situation: You get motor? (do you have a car, land and house)? You get land? You get house? You: 😞 I have a 🚗 but not a house of my own. I don't even have a land. Wel...l.., this is where I come in. I can help you stop "denge posing". You can finally boast and not hide it. No more being too careful in order to avoid your landlord/ landlady give you a good scolding. Giving you a full grown man and woman instructions that you really need not obey if not for ....... Gw Property feels what you feel. Call or inbox me. I can help.

|

| body |

ast year I made a statistical analysis on the popular TV program: “Big Brother”, which was rather perceived harsh, biased and untrue by a few connections here. Equally, some persons saw sense to it. Truth be told, I actually enjoy watching just as I enjoy criticising, well, only at my leisure but since it's introduction to Nigeria, it's been a different ball game; how last year a Nigeria conducted show was hosted in South Africa, which this year I don't even know it's present location. Youths are subjected to sexual immoralities and public contrition. And again, it's still part of the marketing since “sex will always sell”; but regardless, who's been following this year's episode? Has anyone discovered how half of the contestants are ugly? It's even more shame that more than half of the slots were bought. Yes! You probably didn't know and that's a fact because I'm seeing on TV someone whom I thought was evicted at the auditions. Big Brother ought to be creating opportunities for the less privileged; I'm not saying they really haven't ever but more attention is concentrated on the elites here. Try researching a few of the housemates’ biography. Don't you just love what our dear nation is becoming! #RestructureNigeria #BBNaija #EducationIsAWasteOfTime

|

| body |

I graduated from FUTA in the year 2012, misplaced my UNIVERSITY certificate along side with other documents (Birth Cert, Cert of State of Origin, Pry & Sec school certs ...) and found them today (02/02/2018) after 6 years? Has this limited my development in anyway? NO. I'm humble to say I've trained in Europe and across Africa, Whites, Blacks, Professionals to Rural Farmers with no certificate. I've moved from one powerful fellowship to another: YALI, LEAP Africa, Global Shapers, ONE in Africa, Africa Changemakers, Carrington Fellowship of the US Consulate to mention but a few. I was invited to the G20 Summit by The Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, BMZ Germany where I led different sessions and also part of the team who wrote the Berlin Charter "Creating Opportunities for Young Generation of the Rural World" without a certificate. I train with local and international organizations: ECHO International, Grooming Leaders for Agriculture, IIGL, NYSC... Most importantly, I founded ProtectOzone where we alleviated extreme poverty and improve the livelihood of indigents through Sustainable / Smart Agricultural Practices. Your certificate is not your life, know what you want and go for it.

|

| title | Financial inclusion and Africa |
| body | About 23% of adults in Africa have an account with a formal financial institution. Many adults use informal methods to save and borrow money. Saving under the mattress, through asset accumulation such as gold or livestock or rotating savings and credit associations are commonly practiced by millions of Africans. Many reasons can be attributed to it. • Lack of money to use the service • Distance to a financial institution especially those in the rural areas • Cost of operating one is exorbitant like in Nigeria / =N=65 bank charge. I advised the Central Bank of Nigeria against the backlash of implementing this charge. • Insufficient documentation is commonly cited for younger adults in Sub Saharan Africa Way forward • Financial institutions should invest more on improving the infrastructure • Improve contestability of financial systems • Improve regulatory environment as this will speed up adoption of new products, processes and technology that may reduce the barriers. • Put in place a standard legal frame work to attract the right foreign investors |
