The JSON API is what allows a user to view their wallets, to query past transactions, and to initiate requests for new transactions.</p>\n\n<img src=\"https://www.dashed-slug.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/wallets-version-4.2.0-1024x1024.png\" alt=\"Bitcoin and Altcoin Wallets WordPress plugin version 4.2.0.\" class=\"wp-image-6033\"/>\n\n<p>This is mainly of interest to developers, as it makes programmatic access easier. Previously, it was not possible to access the JSON API without logging in to WordPress and storing cookies in memory or in a file. Now, it is possible to access the API via a key. The key can be passed as a GET parameter or, preferably, via an HTTP header.</p>\n\n<p>The feature is disabled by default. To enable it for certain users, grant them the <code>access_wallets_api</code> capability. If you wish to do this for a user role, you may do so via the <em>Capabilities</em> menu under <em>Wallets</em>. A random key is assigned to each user with the necessary capability.</p>\n\n<p>This authentication method is only available to JSON API version 3. Older versions of the API do not support this feature and can only be accessed with cookie-based authentication.</p>\n\n<p>Users can view, and refresh, their API key via the <code>[wallets_api_key]</code> shortcode. Refreshing a key means that the old key is invalidated.</p>\n\n<p>Additionally, the API key is shown in the user profile section.       "body": "<center>https://www.dashed-slug.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/exchange.png</center>\n\nThe latest beta version of the <a href=\"https://www.dashed-slug.net/bitcoin-altcoin-wallets-wordpress-plugin/exchange-extension/\">Exchange extension</a> to the <a href=\"https://www.dashed-slug.net/bitcoin-altcoin-wallets-wordpress-plugin/\">Bitcoin and Altcoin Wallets plugin for WordPress</a> introduces a much requested improvement, as well as a bug fix that causes some breaking changes to the trade histories views.\n\n<h2>Public graph</h2>\n\nA much requested feature was for a user to be able to view the market chart and the orderbook even if not logged in. To this end, the frontend JavaScript and JSON APIs were hacked to make this possible. This is the reason that this latest beta requires version 3.9.1 of its parent plugin, so make sure to install that first (TGMPA will still warn you if you don't).\n\n<h2>Market and user histories</h2>\n\nIt turns out that the DB schema of the Exchange extension was previously flawed in that it did not correctly capture the <em>1..n</em> relation of orders to trades. Trades were therefore not easily accessible to display histories and market prices. This resulted in some history displays missing a few trades. This was only an issue with displaying the history, orders were still executed correctly.\n\nThis is now fixed with the introduction of a new table in the DB schema that captures individual trades. Market and user histories, as well as OHLC (candlestick) data are now derived from this table. <strong>A side-effect is that any existing trade histories will no longer be displayed.</strong> The <code>[wallets_exchange_market_history]</code> and <code>[wallets_exchange_user_history]</code> shortcodes will only display trades that occurred with version <code>0.5.0-beta</code> or later.\n\nA new JSON API endpoint is introduced for getting user trade histories. This is <code>get_user_history</code>. The corresponding PHP API is the filter <code>wallets_api_trades</code>.\n\n<h2>DB error reporting</h2>\n\nThe error reporting feature of this plugin is now greatly improved. Any DB errors are now reported in a uniform way via the JSON API.",

This data is live: it is refreshed via polling this JSON API. The end user can select the current cryptocurrency, and this selection affects all the shortcodes throughout the page.\n\nIn addition to the above, it is now possible to use new, static, shortcodes. The idea, detailed below, is to offload the cron jobs from any end-user HTTP requests. These jobs can run on separate HTTP requests that do not originate from the user's browser.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>overview</h2>\nThe plugin's cron jobs are tasks that run in the background. To continue using the extension, you can sign up to the service, and get an authorization token associated to your account. Enter this token in the ShapeShift settings in your WordPress admin screens (<em>Wallets</em> → <em>ShapeShift</em> → <em>Authorization token</em> ). The settings screen contains complete instructions on how to get this token.\n<h2>Alternatives to ShapeShift</h2>\nA number of you have voiced concerns about the new requirement to login and wish to use a different platform that does not require login. There are several options available, and at least one such extension will be released soon. This is only of interest to developers. If you are using third party code to interface with the plugin, you can enable legacy APIs to immediately let your code use the previous API, version 2. There are only a few minor changes between API 2 and 3, so your application might be already version 3 compliant. Try bumping the <code>__wallets_apiversion</code> GET parameter in your requests and see if it works. The changes on the new API are listed in the changelog for this version.\n<h2>Server data reload</h2>\nPeople using the front-end can now hit a new tiny button (🗘) available on most UI elements to immediately refresh the data from server. In response to this, the WordPress dev team has added features that will help site administrators comply with the regulations. Themes and plugins can and should use these new features to help you with this task. This article is not intended to be legal advise, and you should consult a legal professional or other sources for a complete list of your legal obligations as a site owner.\n\nBecause the policy affects any handling of data that can be used to personally identify a user, this can also touch on <em>Bitcoin and Altcoin Wallets</em>. The plugin handles blockchain addresses and transaction IDs. This data can be used by blockchain analytics tools to personally identify a user, and can therefore be considered to be \"personal data\".\n\nIn short, you have at least the following three legal obligations as a site operator:\n<ol>\n \t<li><strong>You must provide a privacy policy that clearly explains what personal data you collect and how you use it.</strong> WordPress receives privacy policy text fragments from the installed plugins and helps you assemble a policy text.
