THERE IS AN 80% CHANCE THAT AT LEAST ONE OF YOUR FRIENDS ON SOCIAL MEDIA IS A FRAUDSTER. \n\nDon't get it twisted, I'm giving you \"insider tips\" as a Nigerian, who has what we call \"street credibility\". I formerly worked in a bank, until I decided it's to help the world, a bit more. I have gone on a personal under-cover investigation for more than a year. I can confirm to you, it's a booming business.\n\nFACTS YOU MUST KNOW\nNow, in local parlance, this art is called a variery of names. They include 419, yahoo yahoo, gee, hustle, e.t.c. Here are some points to note.\ni) Never expect a scammer to use a \"black\" profile. They understand the \"politics of race\". White profiles gains more attention/trust quickly.\nii) They bank on your greed. Almost everyone gambles, directly or indirectly. Watch out for the next time a \"friend\" you barely know on social media makes frivolous promises, albeit at a \"small\" cost. Never forget the adage - \"If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is\"\niii) Americans and Europeans have signed up. No doubt the media would make you believe it's an exclusively African thing. However, take it from me, The West is taking over.\n\nTIPS ON IDing A SCAMMER\n1) He usually (seemingly coincidentally) lives in a different country from yours. He may be from your country, as his profile may read, let's say U.S. But, at anytime he identifies you are an American, he'll claim to be in the UK, or even the Scandinavia.\n2) They never have more than a few pictures on social media. Probably between 3 and 5\n3) They are always divorced or widowed. Most likely with a child, in their custody.\n4) Thy pose as very successful seafarers, Oil moguls, Soldiers and the likes. Note, their job does not permit them making unscheduled calls.\n5) They are very romantic. I bet you, they are masters of the art.\n\nPlease encourage me for more tips. As I struggle to remember mundane things like the name of that movie with this big, bald headed guy and a large machine gun, my phone smugly recalls literally everything. As I increasingly lose the nouns, verbs and adjectives that once stood ready to articulate my thoughts, my phone taunts me with the instant access to all the words there ever have been. Guess what, no point bugging my mind with details anymore. My phone has got me covered.\n\nMeanwhile, Slowly, without realizing it, I seem to have outsourced my mind to my phone. To make matters worse, the damn thing knows it... And its starting to screw with me. Several times during the day, I feel it buzz in my pocket, alerting me that some vital information has just arrived. Then, when I look, there's nothing. I think its purposeful.
