| body | # Why should I care? Crypto currency is *the* hot topic on the internet right now. It is inevitable that over the next few years everyone will start using crypto, even if they're not interested in computers, cryptography or virtual currencies in general. People often think that making money off crypto currencies is not possible anymore or not worth because they didn't invest a few years ago. This is a really big misconception. The crypto space is growing at an insanely high rate, new innovative coins emerge everyday and the profit you are able to make is at least equal to what you could have made buying bitcoin years ago, if not more. A lot of people still aren't familiar with any of this, simply because it's not a topic that's being discussed a lot on TV, radio or most social media sites, yet. This will change as soon as everyone realizes how crypto currencies are suddenly becoming part of everyday life. # What do I need to know? Before you start out, you need to figure out whether you want to be an investor or a trader. What's the difference? Let's take a look at the two definitions. > The goal of investing is to gradually build wealth over an extended period of time through the buying and holding of a portfolio. [ ... ] While markets inevitably fluctuate, investors will "ride out" the downtrends with the expectation that prices will rebound and any losses will eventually be recovered. > Trading, on the other hand, involves a more frequent buying and selling. [ ... ] Trading profits are generated through buying at a lower price and selling at a higher price within a relatively short period of time. The reverse is also true: trading profits are made by selling at a higher price and buying to cover at a lower price (known as "selling short") to profit in falling markets. Source: [Investopedia](http://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/12/difference-investing-trading.asp) To summarize the above, investing means holding one or more crypto currencies over a long period of time, hoping it will increase and generate profit over time, even if price might fall during this period. Trading means buying and selling crypto currencies in a short time frame, minutes, hours, days, to profit from the market moving up or down during a short window, in other works, profiting from the market volatility. Only you can decide which path you choose, some people can't deal with the stress of daily trading, some people love the rush of making quick money. It all depends on what type of person you are. # How do I get started? If you want to start investing, not trading, you need to do a lot of research. You need to look at every single crypto currency you might want to invest in, read blog posts, follow their social media, analyze if the idea of the coin is going to have value in the next years. This is the most important part of investing, once you did your research and you bought into a coin, you can sit back and see if it pays off. Trading on the other hand requires less long term thinking, instead you need to be able to make decisions quick and under a lot of pressure. If a coin is getting a lot of attention on the media, or if there are upcoming events that might cause the price to go up or down, you need to decide whether to buy or sell the coin. If you want to know more about the essentials of trading, I suggest you get started reading this article [Trading Fundamentals](http://www.investopedia.com/university/beginner-trading-fundamentals/). # Where do I buy crypto currencies? There are a lot of websites that allow you to buy coins from. One of the most known ones is [coinbase](coinbase.com). Everytime you use an exchange or a website to buy a crypto currency from with your fiat money, EUR, USD etc, you will pay a small fee, because the website you are using has to make money as well. The fees on coinbase are petty low and it's easy to use for beginners. You can either leave the coins you bought in coinbase or you send them to an exchange, such as Bittrex or Kraken. Here's a list of exchanges that you can use, pick whichever you think best fits you ([List of Exchanges](https://blockgeeks.com/guides/best-cryptocurrency-exchanges/)). If you want to trade, you will need to use an exchange because you're going to buy and sell a lot of different crypto currencies and exchanges allow you to do that in a very short amount of time, which is crucial for trading. If you are planning to invest long term, you can also store your coins in a [Paper Wallet](https://blockchain.info/wallet/paper-tutorial). The example here is Bitcoin, however many other coins allow the offline storage in paper wallets. They are considered the most secure. If the crypto currency you are planning to buy supports paper wallets is for you to find out. There are other ways to store your coins as well, most crypto currencies provide their own desktop wallet that you can run on your PC to store your coins in, which is not as secure, however a lot easier. # How do I research a crypto currency? I'm going to provide you with a few links that will get you started. There are two sites that I suggest using to check what the crypto currency / coin you bough is actually worth. The first one is [coincap.io](http://coincap.io/), the other one is [coinmarketcap](https://coinmarketcap.com). Both essentially do the same, you pick the one you like best. Both provide basic historical data and graphs of prices, as well as things like market cap, price change in the last 24 hours and a lot more. For more detailed graphs and lots of features that help you analyze the market, which is really important for trading, because you're going to look at charts a lot, you should definitely take a look at [coinigy](https://www.coinigy.com/). It allows you to link your exchange account so you can use coinigy instead of your exchanges website, which in most cases don't have nice and clear charts and less tools to work with, which will make trading more difficult in the long run. In order to be a proper trader you will also need to learn a lot of technical chart analysis, which is easier than it seems at first. It's is a lot to learn tho, so prepare to invest some time, trust me, it will pay off if you master it. If you want to find out more about the basics of technical analysis, I recommend reading [this](http://www.investopedia.com/university/technical/). # There is still a lot to learn What I'm trying to achieve with this post is to get more people to start researching crypto currencies. It is the future, if you like it or not. There is still so much more that you will need to figure out before you start investing or trading, but all the above is the bare minimum you will need to get started. Good luck and always remember > "An investment in knowledge pays the best interest." - Benjamin Franklin Take your time, do your research, make mistakes, learn from your mistakes, profit |

| title | Making Money with Crypto Currencies 101 |
| body | # Why should I care? Good luck and always remember > "An investment in knowledge pays the best interest." - Benjamin Franklin Take your time, do your research, make mistakes, learn from your mistakes, profit |

| body | It will be interesting to see how the market plays this game. The first day will be the most challenging and poses the greatest opportunity and greatest risk. Without prior days to go by it is hard to predict what everyone will do. You rightly point out that large players have the most to lose by dumping into the first round. But the first round is also the largest, 100x larger than subsequent rounds making it the easiest to put a large amount of money into. |

| title | EOS - Best time to buy (ICO) |
| body | <html> <h2>What is it about?</h2> <p>EOS is going to sell their tokens in an ICO (<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Initial_coin_offering">What is an ICO?</a>). I'm going to explain to you why the time of your investment can have a great effect on how many tokens you will receive and why it's crucial to understand how people think and act.</p> <h2>How does it work?</h2> <blockquote>At the start of the sale, 20% of the total mined tokens (200,000,000 EOS) will become available during a 5 day window.</blockquote> <blockquote>The remaining 800,000,000 EOS will then be split evenly into 360 one-day windows of 2,222,222.222222 EOS tokens each.</blockquote> <p>Source: https://github.com/EOSIO/eos-token-sale</p> <h2>Explanation</h2> <p>Before we can discuss when and why to invest in EOS, we have to understand how the ICO is going to take place. Let's look at this example from the official github page:</p> <blockquote>20 EOS are available during the window </blockquote> <blockquote>Bob contributes 4 ETH, Alice contributes 1 ETH</blockquote> <blockquote>Bob contributed 80% of the total contributions and gets 16 EOS, Alice contributed 20% of the total contributions and gets 4 EOS</blockquote> <p>Source: https://github.com/EOSIO/eos-token-sale</p> <p>We can see that Bob will get more EOS tokens than Alice, because he contributed more ETH (You can only buy EOS tokens with ETH). Over the past few days people have been trying to figure out if it's a good decision to buy right at the start of the sale, during the 5 day window, or if it's better to wait. Let's take the example from above, but we're going to add one more person:</p> <blockquote>Bob contributes 4 ETH</blockquote> <blockquote>Alex contributes 3 ETH</blockquote> <blockquote>Alice contributes 1 ETH</blockquote> <p>Instead of receiving 16 EOS, Bob will now only receive 10 EOS, although he contributed the same amount of ETH as before. What can we take from this example? Well, the more people are going to buy EOS during the first 5 day window, the less tokens you are going to receive during that time.</p> <p>The remaining 800,000,000 tokens will be available during the 360 day window, as mentioned above, split up into 1 day windows. </p> <p>The reason why the EOS team decided to have a different kind of ICO is because of big investors, companies or groups that prevent the average person or small business from participating in the crowd sale. A lot of ICOs in the past have sold out within minutes, even seconds, leaving you and me no chance to take part, even if we believe in the project and aren't looking for big money. With a 1 year ICO they are hoping to give even small investors a chance to contribute in an early stage, without having to worry about the competition not allowing them to buy tokens.</p> <h2>When should I invest in EOS?</h2> <p>What you need to figure out is how people are going to react and act when the token sale begins. This is mostly going to be dependent on social media, people are looking for confirmation because they are unsure what's going to happen. There are two outcomes:</p> <blockquote>People think that buying in early may result in a better return due to receiving more coins if others wait with their investment</blockquote> <blockquote>People think that buying in early may result in receiving less coins due to high demand and therefore they will wait to minimize risk</blockquote> <p>Obviously no one can predict the outcome with certainty, but you can try to increase your chances of getting in at the right time, if you take news and posts on websites like SteemIt into consideration. If the majority of people are unsure about getting in right at the start you should consider getting in early because of the fact that you have the chance of a great return, especially if people realize they missed out and start buying after a week. This will have an even greater effect on the price when exchanges start to list EOS in the future.</p> <p>The same logic applies to big investors and companies, not only to the average buyer. They have a lot to lose, if you had a million to invest, would you be willing to take the risk of losing a fair amount because of uncertainty? I wouldn't. That's why, the way I see it, people who are going to invest more than the average person are most likely going to wait for a good entry point that brings less risks with it, but still pays off in the end, simply because everyone is buying right at the start might result in them not maximizing profit.</p> <p>If you are looking for a high reward and you are willing to take the risk then you should consider getting in early. If you are looking for a good investment that will pay off over time, and you want to be on the safe side, wait until EOS tokens have settled for a price and buy.</p> <h2>Why is EOS worth investing in?</h2> <p>One of the developers of EOS is Dan Larimer, who previously worked on projects like Steem and BitShares, which are incredibly popular. According to Dan, EOS will be a combination and improvement of both. BitShares high frequency transactions combined with Steems ease of use and no fees will be the core for a whole new level of blockchain technology. It will be faster than anything we have seen so far and it will allow everyone to make use of the blockchain without needing to spent months of learning and doing research.</p> <p>To me, EOS is a good investment. The technology and the idea of improvement will revolutionize the crypto world.</p> <h2>How do I stay up to date on the ICO?</h2> <p>You can sign up for the official EOS newsletter <a href="http://eos.io/">here</a>. Make sure to also follow <a href="https://steemit.com/@eosio">@eosio</a> on SteemIt.</p> <p>There will be a 2 week public trial run of the sale on the Ethereum test network, to see how it works out before starting the real ICO. If you are still unsure about investing, give it a try and see how it plays out for you.</p> <h2>Helpful Links</h2> <p><a href="http://eos.io/">EOS Website</a></p> <p><a href="https://steemit.com/eos/@eosio/eos-io-technical-white-paper">EOS Whitepaper</a></p> <p><a href="https://steemit.com/eos/@eosio/draft-eos-token-sale-smart-contract">Official EOS Token Sale Post</a></p> <p><a href="https://steemit.com/eos/@eosio/eos-presentation-from-consensus-2017">EOS Consensus 2017 Presentation</a></p> <p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6uR0A9cC5Y">Interview with Dan Larimer</a></p> <p><a href="https://github.com/EOSIO">EOS GitHub</a></p> </html> |
