I've come back to Steemit after a number of years away, and it seems less user-friendly and more difficult to get upvotes or even to get \"payment\" for them.  It doesn't matter what I share, whether it be a throwaway piece of trivia, or an article I have written in a field I have some expertise in, most of the time I am lucky if I get onme single upvote, and sometimes, if I am extremely lucky some big fish will give me an upvote and I'll score 11c or 33c or something.\n\nMeantime, a \"whale\" can post the most fatuous or irrelevant thing and score a shedload of votes and a payment amounting to close to $100.\n\nWhat gives?\n\nWhy is this platform designed to reward some and completely ignore others?  Why does it reflect the old paradigm, where a few people get to be winners and everyone else is a loser?  Why is it not more democratic, more inclusive, more egalitarian?\n\nI had hoped for so much more from Steemit.\n\nCan someone persuade me that it is worth continuing to make an effort?  Can someone guide me, in simple lay terms, how I can actually boost my account, without pointing me to a Steemit page that is full of jargon I just cannot get my head around?  Can the developers at Steemit not just m ake it more user-friendly?  It is so full of potential, as an alternative to and antidote to Facebook, and yet... it just isn't! The link between cancer and cigarettes was known way back in the 1950s, and since then it is estimated that worldwide, five hundred million people have died of smoking related illnesses; and yet, not one single country in the world has banned tobacco.  \n\nWhy not?\n\nOur oceans are now utterly choked with plastic, and the best the British government can do is to ban single use plastic bags in supermarkets.  They haven’t banned the wrapping of vegetables in plastic. And, as far as I am aware, there are only a few countries in the entire globe who use such “repressive measures”, curtailing consumers’ freedom to have lighter shopping trollies to wheel to their fuel-guzzling, environment polluting cars.\n\nThe meat and dairy industries cause more pollution than any other industry anywhere and will, in the end, be responsible for the destruction of the planet our grandchildren were due to inherit, and no government anywhere, as far as I am aware, has put a tax on meat and dairy or offered a substantial subsidy on vegan equivalents, to encourage people to buy a more sustainable alternative, never mind actually banning the meat and dairy industry… and yet, they have the power to close restaurants, bars, cinemas, sports venues and “non-essential” shops worldwide.\n\nAll around the world, especially in Western, “civilised” societies, old people have pretty much been seen as “useless eaters” (as described by one, unusually honest, British Tory MP).       "body": "I will NEVER trust Trip Advisor.  \n\nThey have been informed numerous times by many people of the serious allegations of rape and sexual abuse at Agama Yoga in Thailand.  They have also been informed about fake five star reviews, especially the ones that appeared in a flurry after the abuses were explored in The Guardian, back in 2018.\n\nAgama Yoga is still operating, still being run by the same \"alleged\" serial sexual abuser; and still being supported by Trip Advisor, who have done NOTHING to warn people of what has been happening for years at Agama Yoga.\n\nThe reason why they are \"allegations\" is because the man who masquerades under the name, Swami Vivekananda Saraswati, is \"alleged\" to have paid the police off.  Thailand is well known for such corruption.  Also, it uses an utterly ridiculous statute of limitations, applied to cases of rape and sexual abuse, of only three months, which is utterly ridiculous!!!  There should be NO limitations.  A crime is a crime!\n\nHere is the relevant Trip Advisor page.  You would think from the glopwing and often fake reviews that Agama Yoga was a save haven for those interested in Tantric Yoga.
