Beliau adalah sepupu sekaligus sahabat Rasulullah yang mirip dengan Rasulullah baik wuiud tubuh, tingkah laku atau budi pekertinya.\r\nSewaktu Rasulullah memilih sahabat-sahabatnya yang akan hiirah ke Habsyi (Ethiopia), maka Ia‘far bersama istrinya termasuk yang ikut hiirah, hingga ia menetap di sana selama beberapa tahun.Me1alui Ia‘far lah Raia Naiasyi masuk Islam setelah menerima surat dari Nabi Muhammad yang dikirim melalui Amt bin Umayyah Adh-Dhamary.\r\nitulah para pemimpin Quraisy mengirimkan dua utusannya yaitu Abdullah bin Rabi’ah dan Amru bin Ash (keduanya waktu itu belum masuk Islam) untuk menyampaikan harapan Quraisy agar Naiasyi mengusir kaum Muslimin yang hijrah dan menyerahkannya kepada mereka.\r\n\r\n<a href=\"https://ibb.co/niKDE9\"><img src=\"https://preview.ibb.co/dE4fu9/ethiopia_652966_1280.png\" /><br/></a><em><a href=\"https://pixabay.com/en/ethiopia-flag-fingerprint-country-652966/\">Images - Pixabay CC0</a></em>\r\n\r\nNajasyi asalnya adalah seorang penganut agama Nasrani secara murni, jauh dari penyelewengan dan fanatik buta. Nama baiknya dan kisah perjalanan hidupnya yang adil tersebar ke mana-mana. Karena itulah Rasulullah memilih negerinya menjadi tempat hiirah bagi sahabat-sahabatnya. Karena itu pula kaum kafir QuraiSy khawatir kalau tipu muslihatnya menjadi gagal, sehingga utusannya dibekali sejumlah hadiah yang berharga untuk pembesar-pembesar dan pejabat gereja di sana dengan tujuan agar para pendeta itu berpihak kepada mereka. Kepada para petinggi negeri tersebut, keduanya berkata, “Telah datang ke negeri Sang Naiasyi budak-budak bodoh dari negeri kami. Mereka telah meninggalkan agama kaumnya, tetapi juga tidak masuk dalam agama Anda semua. Mereka datang ke negeri ini dengan membawa agama baru yang kami dan Anda semua tidak meyakininya”. Kedua utusan itu terus-menerus membangkitkan dendam kebencian di antara para pembesar negeri Habasyah terhadap kaum Muslimin.\r\nPada saat Naiasyi dihadapkan dengan utusan Quraisy dan kaum muhajirin islam utusan Quraisy kembali mengulangi tuduhan terhadap kaum Muslimin bahwa kaum Muslim'm itu adalah orang-orang bodoh yang meninggalkan agama nenek moyang mereka tetapi tidak pula hendak memasuki agamanya Naiasyi dan bahkan datang dengan agama baru yang mereka ada-adakan sehingga utusan itu meminta mereka dikembalikan pada kaumnya.
