| body | I'm piloting a new service called TrustedCryptoGuide where I will help people navigate the jungle that is cryptocurrency. You can find out about it here: https://www.trustedcryptoguide.com/ I'm offering several services for different needs: * Getting into crypto: Personalized help to get you started in investing in cryptocurrencies * Death of a loved one: We offer recovery services to find your loved one's cryptocurrencies and show you how to access it, so you can hold on it or sell it to dollars * Already know crypto: Consulting and 1-1 guidance to get to the next level * Masternodes: Help in setting up your masternode Some of these services I can do for people located anywhere; others you must be in the Austin, Texas area as security requires that we both be at the same computer and even disconnect from the internet. I am not offering financial advice with this service, but rather guiding people through the confusing steps to get into crypto, store it securely, retrieve or recover it if a loved one has passed away, and do advanced setup like masternodes. Let me know if you would like to be a pilot customer, or know someone who needs such help! The number one thing with cryptocurrency is: you must be extremely careful about whom to trust. Ideally you trust no one. In practice you typically need to trust your spouse or at least one other person who knows how to get to your private keys in the event that you pass away or are incapacitated. Hence, I will never ask for your private keys or set up the accounts for you; I will instead show you how to do all of it, but all the private keys, data, accounts, etc. will be completely under your sole control. https://www.trustedcryptoguide.com/ |

| body | One of the revelations that has come to my mind from cryptocurrency is how intrusive the big tech companies are who own most of our data: Facebook, Amazon, Google, Apple, etc. At first, having a working search engine like Google was a dream come true. I recall the days of yahoo, altavista, lycos, and so on, when search results were not very good. And wasn't Google's motto to "do no evil." Yet, even if not wanting to do evil, the fact remains that Google and these other companies are, well, for-profit companies. Their goals are not primarily altruistic. They need revenue growth, profit, and expanded user bases. Likewise, I've known for a while that my ISP (Spectrum) has been harvesting my data and selling it. If you read the fine print when you sign up, it says that. Now, you can opt out of it typically, either by writing a letter, calling, or by paying extra, but I decided a few months ago I was done giving all this away to big companies. # Enter the Brave Browser I heard about Brave and decided I liked the idea: no company tracking me, and cut out the middle man between content producer, ad creator, and user, using the Basic Attention Token (BAT) behind the scenes. So I opted my youtube channel into Brave, so that when people using the Brave browser watch my youtube channel, based on how much time they spend on it, I receive some BAT tokens. And when they recently opened up multi-channel creators, I added my website. They gave me an affiliate link for a limited time promotion, if you download and use Brave I receive some BAT tokens: http://brave.com/her081 But even before they did this, I was sold. I am now using it on my computer and smart phone. # VPN Too I also decided to get some more privacy by using a VPN, and after researching I chose Nord VPN https://nordvpn.com/ . It has been good to use, a few glitches with my internet here and there, but nothing that is difficult. I think the cryptocurrency movement is starting to drive people toward such measures. We are in the early stages of it. It will take a long, long time before mom and pop switch over from using Firefox or Chrome or IE (gasp) to Brave. But I told my Aunt and Uncle about it, who already distrust the big tech corps, and they are using it. Over time though, this kind of decentralization builds momentum and undermines the business model of Google et. al., and that is what will ultimately grab market share from them. # Disrupt Your Own Company? The only crypto company I know disrupting themselves with crypto, proactively, is OpSkins through their Wax token: https://opskins.com/ I am invested in Wax, and I love to see that they are disrupting themselves with crypto before someone else can try to do it. |

| body | Some weeks back I wrote that I invested in DigixDAO, which is making an gold-backed stablecoin (DGX) and a governance token (DGD). That project is getting closer to fruition, and in the past week or two the price of DGD shot up, one of the few winners in the side-ways trading market. It's always nice to have a win like that! Monero paper wallet Some time back I bought a little monero and sent it to a paper wallet I generated. While I think Monero has a solid value proposition, I needed to pare down my holdings of alt-coins and wanted to consolidate more of them into a stake in Blocknet (https://blocknet.co/). So I read about how to transfer from a monero paper wallet, and it was difficult! It reminded me of the high barrier to entry for non-technical folks that cryptocurrency still has. I downloaded the official monero gui wallet for Windows. I imported my seed words, then it spent several hours syncing the monero blockchain, only to partially fail, then say it completed, and showed I had zero monero. I knew either it messed up or I was hacked. I tried again, this time using my private keys. It froze in syncing and ultimately ran me out of disk space. I did more searching, this time for "light wallet", and found a mobile app, Monerujo, that used a remote node to sync rather than pulling everything down on your system. It still took a long time, but Deo gratias once it completed I had my small amount of monero show up! No hackers. I then sent it to an exchange, and used it to buy Blocknet. Eggs in the Basket Investment wise, I don't want to put all my eggs into one, or even ten, baskets. With so many promising projects in the crypto space, choosing "the winners" is a difficult conjecture. So currently I have spread out my investments across a score or so of cryptos. Doing so, I expect that some may go to zero ultimately, but that even one winner among them could go to 10x or 100x given enough time. In the meantime, I have a large portion of my investment in blue chips: Bitcoin and Ethereum, and then a quarter or so in projects I believe in like MakerDAO, Blocknet, and DigixDAO, with the remaining portion distributed across ones like Ethos, Icon, Stellar, Cardano, Neo, Aion, Nuls, Loopring, Steem, Bancor, Enigma, Stratis, Chainlink, Request). Let me know which projects you find most promising! |

| body | Originally I only owned Bitcoin, then I thought I would get bold and bought some Ethereum, which at the time felt wild and speculative. Now of course, those are the blue chip cryptos! Well, I eventually became more comfortable with the crypto world and started spreading out my investments into more cryptocurrencies. I learned about each one, figured out its purpose, its wallet, the exchanges it was on, its price, and I bought quite a few, eventually around twenty. Fast forward several months later to today, and I find my investments spread out across a score of cryptos, all of which I believe in, but quite frankly it is too much for me to really keep track of. I have the Daedalus desktop app to store Cardano (Ada). I have the Stellar Lumens desktop app to store lumens. I had the iota wallet and stored the tangle (a little joke), had being the operative word as I sold all my iota, more on that later. I have the Stratis desktop wallet and was trying to run it 24/7 to stake stratis. You get the idea. This is not even to speak of my ERC-20 tokens that I store across multiple ethereum addresses, including hardware wallet. For every one of these, I have to write down private keys, passwords, seed phrases, make duplicate copies, then physically go and store these copies in different geographical locations. I try to keep up on the subreddit(s) for each of these cryptos as well, keep track of the price to see if any big moves are happening, and stay updated with things I need to do for them (e.g. Loopring announced to claim their upcoming Loopring-Neo combo token LRN you have to do a series of smart contract steps). After a while, I examined my portfolio, saw how spread thin I was, and wondered whether it was worth doing all this overhead for a few hundred dollar investment. While I believe in all these cryptos, I had to start saying No to them. So I have begun selling off some of them and combining them into ones I really think are going to do well over the long term. Note on iota: in my laziness early on, I wanted to buy iota, so I used that one website to generate my iota seed. Months later I find out that site was hacked or was a scammer waiting for critical mass of seeds to be generated, and $4 million USD had been stolen from people who used the site. Frantically, I launched my iota wallet and saw that my iota was still in there. Fortunately, while lazy, I did do the trick where I randomly changed the seed given to me in several character locations, which may have saved my funds. In any case, I was annoyed by iota not having an easy way to generate a seed, as well as the bugs in transferring iota around the tangle, so I sold it all off. It's hard to sell off even a little bit of some of these cryptos, but I am forcing myself to do it so I can say yes to ones I want to double-down on. And when I consider getting into a crypto, I think much harder about whether it is really worth the overhead or not. Last note, for humility's sake, I bought some Verge (XVG) months ago, sent it to a paper wallet and left it there ever since. Well, as I've learned more about Verge, it's lack of speedy development (seems to be one guy mainly), its DogeCoin dark clone origins, and the fact that I don't see it ever beating, tech wise or marketing wise, a crypto like Monero, I decided to sell off, at a loss, my Verge. That required ten minutes of googling how to sweep a Verge paper wallet, downloading the Coinomi mobile app for Android, finding my paper wallet key, etc. etc. then transferring to an exchange and selling it for Bitcoin. All told an hour of work that I caused myself by buying this crypto in the first place, ignoring the time spent keeping up to date with it. |

| body | I've been glad to see the crypto market rebound off the bottom the past few weeks. I implemented a strategy of: 1. Doing dollar cost averaging buys when the fear was high (Bitcoin at $6000 - $7000), waiting til it bottomed and then rebounded to $7k, to avoid "catching a falling knife" 2. I bought a few different cryptos at that time, since they all universally had plummeted in price as the market tanked 3. With this crash then, I rebalanced my portfolio by doing these buys For instance, a month ago I missed the NEO train and was afraid to buy it as it skyrocketed. Well, during the dip it crashed down well below $100. So I bought some at that point. I also increased my stacks on several cryptos I owned a bit of but wanted to grow (including Loopring, Power Ledger, Quantstamp). What I have now been happy to see is several projects making progress to getting their mainnet going, their apps working, their service into production. We have primarily been in speculation land when it comes to buying crypto, since most projects have not even had a working product thus far! Now, however, we are seeing the teams start to release products: decentralized exchanges, mobile apps, wallets, testnets, mainnets. [blocknet.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQme3zwSW8tMRzQZY6Ywk3HKeAR2LpNPE4BY9pPPqLY5c34/blocknet.png) I had not put any fresh fiat into crypto for a long time, not wanting to lose anymore than my initial investment that I made months ago. But as I have thought about it, I decided that since I believe in crypto long term, I am going to set aside a small amount of fresh fiat each month and deposit it into my account and buy crypto with it, essentially doing a dollar cost averaging with it. I am also going to keep a certain amount in fiat in the crypto market, ready to buy if we get big dips, or if I learn about new cryptos that seem interesting. My latest purchase was some BLOCKnet https://blocknet.co/. This project is promising because they will be paying people to stake their BLOCK in a wallet, are working on a decentralized exchange the fees of which will be paid to stakers and service node operators (like master nodes). The problem is that they were only on a Chinese exchange which I couldn't read the words of at all, and on Bittrex, which has frozen new users for months. I managed to buy some BLOCK though and so am trying out the staking. If I had 5000 BLOCK, I could run a service/master node and eventually be paid a good amount. But at current rate of about $35 per BLOCK, that is over $150,000, so it is way beyond what I could do. Wish I would have been into all this a year ago, when the price was $1 something! But coulda-woulda-shoulda, and even with a small amount you can stake it and receive staking rewards. Disclaimer: I am not a financial advisor; this is not financial advice. Do your own research, get qualified help, make your own decisions. |

| body | Great to meet you! You made the first comment on my steemit blog so I am honored. How cool that you were told about Bitcoin back in 2011. You know your attitude is a good one though, and I am sure I would have done the same and sold whatever I had well before the peak in 2017. What I have learned is to keep some of my money in fiat or stablecoin (USD, DAI) so I can take advantage of these big downward swings. I am implementing that strategy now, dollar cost averaging in as the market has tanked. Each DGX is backed by 100 grams of gold, so that token will be a good stable store of value to hedge against big dips in the market. The DGD token gets dividends from the usages of the DGX token; their platform is going live soon, been in development for a year or two I have read. MakerDAO has a DAI token pegged to $1 USD, and it accomplishes that by having people put up their Ether as collateral and then generating DAI from that. So DAI is a stablecoin that you could move crypto into to hedge against market dips. The MKR token is the governance token over DAI, where you can vote on how DAI is generated, and the value of MKR should go up in value over time as to redeem DAI people have to burn MKR tokens, thus decreasing the supply. Litecoin is more efficient, and I use it to transfer crypto from one account/exchange to another as it typically has lower fees and is faster. Whether long term it has appreciating value is still a big question. Overall I think Bitcoin and all crypto will appreciate in value. How long that will take, I'm not sure, but I do think this dip will be a blip on the radar ultimately to the overall appreciation in value. Thanks for commenting; we'll keep chatting! |

| body | Hi. I'm going to follow you to see where your investments take you and how the conversation evolves. I'm an amateur investor, mostly focused on technology and IPOs. I almost invested in Bitcoin very early, in 2011, when a software developer friend of mine tipped me off to it. I've started keeping a close eye on cryptocurrencies recently as the prices have exploded and I've had to deal with some mild regret about not securing the coins when they were cheap. What interests me however, and comforts me to some extent, are the wild swings in the market. Even if I had invested when Bitcoin was below $20, I imagine I would have sold well before 2017 when it hit its huge peaks; the market volatility would have tortured me. I'm curious too about Digix (is it really backed by gold?) as well as the blockchain technology and how that will continue to evolve for various uses. What about Litecoin, which I understand some think is more efficient and secure? I'm curious too about how you deal with the wild market gyrations and how you feel about Bitcoin's major losses in the first month of this new year? It will be fascinating to see what happens -- no doubt! |

| body | Howdy! I got into cryptocurrency some time back but didn't pay much attention to it until late last year. I'm interested in it from an investment standpoint and a technology standpoint, as I'm a software developer. I plan to share my thoughts here on what I am learning and investing in. It is not financial advice. At first I just owned some bitcoin, then I bought some ethereum, then bit by bit learned about other cryptocurrencies, wallets, exchanges, and so on. Now I have diversified into about twenty different coins and tokens, a little in each one, with a good chunk of my portfolio still in bitcoin and ethereum (the "blue chips" of the crypto world). Lately I have become interested in stable coins like MakerDAO (DAI, Maker) and Digix (DGX, DGD). DGD is the governance token for DGX, which is backed by actual gold, and it is one of the only tokens that has gone up in value while the market has tanked. Let me know what you are investing in! We'll learn from each other. |
