| body | In July 2011, I spent two weeks in jail somewhere in the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. Before my visit I was looking forward to the time alone. If I kept to myself, I was looking at two full weeks where I would reflect on my life and turn those experiences in to beautiful poetry, songs, stories - even begin crafting my auto-biography. I was a product of the 90's, I knew that artists and musicians went to jail all the time, and produced some of their best work behind bars. Nervous, but optimistic I took the Phoenix Metro to the edges of Maricopa County with some cash, my I.D., my phone, a pack of smokes, a lighter, a pencil and a small folding pad of paper. I began jotting down my thoughts, which always helped churn up some creativity so I could really start writing. A song began to emerge. It began with complex rhymes and I found a hook. I had never felt so "authentic" in writing rhymes as I did on a bus headed to jail. I arrived at processing. I walked through a metal detector and was patted down. My picture was taken, my belongings were put in a plastic bag and I waited in a crowded cell for four hours before being moved in to a smaller cell with no windows for the next eight hours. My optimism had left. My creativity was stifled for the time being. I took another bus, this time I didn't have to pay for it. I arrived at Sheriff Joe Arpaio's infamous "Tent City" and was shown where I would sleep. Here is your tent, there is your cot, commissary is through that door, bathrooms over there, showers there; a guard pointed as he spoke. Here I was, this was it. Time to get creative and record my experience. Time passed, I began talking with the people around me. A lot of "what are you here for's" and no one acted like it was a big deal. photo by Al Macias - KJZZ http://kjzz.org/content/146090/tent-city-diary-part-1-first-48-hours-were-horrible I sat on my bed and brought my pencil to my pad, without hesitation I began to write. I wrote the date, and I wrote "day one", and that was it. I was void of creativity. I thought about was I should write, and those thoughts quickly turned in to what I should have done to avoid jail. I found a book and began reading. I wanted nothing more to create something unique, something I could only express through the lens of an inmate. But no. I was in the mood to consume, so I picked up a book. The Bible Code. I turned the first page, and the second. Four hours had gone by and I had read the entire book. I thought about recording my newly formed thoughts on the Hebrew alphabet being both letters and numbers and the possibility of my entire existence being the product of an ancient prophecy that predetermined everything there has been and ever will be. Mind blowing. Surely this was a revelation I could write about. Nope, I needed to consume more. I picked up a lighter read, a magazine. Not sure which one, I don't remember the content. Then, I picked up the actual Bible, a book I had never read, and began consuming. Several days went by. Several books, magazines, conversations and some eerily relevant passages from the Bible had shown me one important thing. In jail, I have no creativity. I was completely disconnected from that part of myself and replaced the void where spontaneous creation had lived before, with consumption. I was so eager to become a better version of myself that the thought of recording who I was up to that point stopped entering my mind. I learned this very important lesson in jail: creativity can not be forced, and freedom is a prerequisite to creative thought. |

| body | I grow tired of hearing "I told you that was a bubble" and "I hope you took your money out before the bubble". But at the same time it makes me feel like I know something other people do not understand. This is how early Apple investors must have felt, right? I have no plans to remove any of my investment until we see a $10T market cap. If you only invested what you could stand to lose, sit back and enjoy these crazy pull-backs, you're gaining invaluable perspective. At first, not everyone has to believe in Bitcoin, or blockchain, or any of this for the technology to move us towards to a better place. Those who doubted it will quietly switch sides at some point, when being on the wrong side of Bitcoin means you are on the wrong side of history. Same thing that we see happening with dispensaries, and human rights, women's right, prohibition, slavery, I'll stop there. I'm not comparing Bitcoin to these things, just making a point that throughout history people have been confident enough with their convictions to lose their life fighting over a cause that we look at now and say: "how was that ever a thing?!" Our financial systems will adapt as they do, with blockchain technology. This is exciting. We are living in a very important time. All we can do is buy the dips, believe in this thing, and continue to keep an optimistic mindset about the future. To quote the great Redgrin Grumble: "think for yourselves, don't be sheep." |

| body | Note: This post was originally a reply to an excellent short story by @adsactly titled "The Internet Is Broken". I thought this particular response to be horrifying enough to get it's own post. My very first post, in fact. Enjoy. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ I once woke up to a world without internets. No new emails, no texts, no calls even; suspicious. I guess I'm the first one up! I brushed my teeth, nothing. Took a shower, nothing! Had I lost my job and no one told me? Am I in a Truman-show-type reality and today is the day I find out? I need to find a boat, I thought. I'm distracted. I drove to my office, the radio worked. The topic of discussion? An accident and an anti-fracking protest at the capital. What? Certainly someone was going to address this internet thing. Somebody out there was going to empathize with me. Not a word about it. I arrived at work. The receptionist greeted me "good morning" - this was a good sign. I made my way upstairs, my things were still in my office. An even better sign. I hadn't lost my job! I thought I was going crazy, but everything is the same, just quieter. That day was just a slow-start, non-emergent, nothing pressing kind of Monday morning, wow - what a relief! "There you are!" my boss exclaimed as he appeared in the doorway of my office. "Hey! Good morning, man!" I replied, "wow, what I quiet morning! I was freaking out on the way to work, no calls, no emails, I thought the internet was broken!" I laughed, "You know," I continued, "...it's days like today that I really appreciate my job. No hassles, no stress, no emergencies. Don't get me wrong... I enjoy the tough times too, but every once-in-a-while" I laughed again "...it's nice to come in to the office with a clear, calm mind, and..." "I'm going to stop you right there" he sharply replied. "Not only have I been trying to get a hold of you all morning, but so has everyone else, shit has hit the fan with your accounts, no one received orders and they all claim to have sent them directly to you last night! We are seriously f*cked here - - why you weren't getting back to us is literally all anyone has been talking about this morning!" "My phone!" I started "has no connection!" I threw it to him, panicked. "I have not received a single call, no texts, I have been looking..." He tossed it back "It was on airplane mode", he said, "you have some calls to make." "body": "Note: This post was originally a reply to an excellent short story by @adsactly titled \"The Internet Is Broken\". I thought this particular response to be horrifying enough to get it's own post. My very first post, in fact. Enjoy. \n___________________________________________________________________________________________________\nI once woke up to a world without internets. No new emails, no texts, no calls even; suspicious.\n\nI guess I'm the first one up! I brushed my teeth, nothing. Took a shower, nothing! Had I lost my job and no one told me? Am I in a Truman-show-type reality and today is the day I find out? I need to find a boat, I thought. I'm distracted.\n\nI drove to my office, the radio worked. The topic of discussion? An accident and an anti-fracking protest at the capital. What? Certainly someone was going to address this internet thing. Somebody out there was going to empathize with me. Not a word about it. I arrived at work.\n\nThe receptionist greeted me \"good morning\" - this was a good sign. I made my way upstairs, my things were still in my office. An even better sign. I hadn't lost my job! I thought I was going crazy, but everything is the same, just quieter. That day was just a slow-start, non-emergent, nothing pressing kind of Monday morning, wow - what a relief!\n\n\"There you are!\" my boss exclaimed as he appeared in the doorway of my office.\n\n\"Hey!
