Every farmer however has to deal with one invisible but constant struggle; in the interesting topics offered for this week I chose to talk about Pest Management, as in my opinion this aspect plays the role of the critical guard which protects our food and hard work.\n\nPest management refers to the system of identifying, controlling and monitoring all pests which potentially attack crops such as insects, weeds, plant diseases or rodents and jeopardize our food yield. Although nature seems resilient it also knows how to damage our crops very easily. So as I stated previously in a farm, letting everything to nature may cause enormous damages. On the other hand, current day pest management does not rely anymore on huge applications of chemical pesticides as it did before. Instead, its aim is now to integrate these applications as part of a balanced strategy: the concept of Integrated Pest Management or IPM.\n\nIPM focuses on cooperation and sustainability; for this, it is advised to use physical barriers such as protection nets, introducing natural enemies such as ladybugs or ladybugs into a crop of aphis, or making use of companion planting in order to prevent nasty pests attacking the crops. A classic example is to grow some marigold next to some vegetables; in this way we will succeed in eliminating harmful nematodes. In case the application of chemical treatments will be necessary it should be made in minimal proportions and with high selectivity. Reducing pests below certain levels that may cause damages results to an increase in food yield, better product quality and stable market prices. However, if green pest management techniques are employed it is possible to preserve our natural environment and at the same time protect beneficial insects and pollinators as well as guarantee long-term fertility of the soil.\n\nIn conclusion, pest management is one of the most important processes of modern agriculture as it is a concept which connects traditional experience with modern awareness towards environmental problems. I had to interact, engage, and even consume other people's views. Engaging in daily online writing prompts and contests provided a form of structure to the use of my time, and I have chosen to devote most of the time to acquiring skills; more precisely skills to help me learn more about farming. \n\n\nI persevered through academics, and kept knocking at their doors till it was opened.\n*What I didn't do: I decided not to allow the state of my circumstances to define me and not to lose myself over how people my age, my time, are doing well and I'm stuck doing nothing and feel depressed and disheartened. In the first place, accept that the still periods are not supposed to be seen as failure but preparation time and do not let it make you see yourself as a failure. \n\n\nSecondly, get involved with that one thing you have power over on a daily basis, it could be a book you are reading or a new skill you are trying to acquire, it can even be engaging friends online to form a supportive system, however you chose to fight it is a fight you have to undertake, these actions would be your weapons to fight your inner battles against the anxiety of helplessness and lack of progress; remember, your journey will never be the same as any other person's and you don't have to allow it bother you as long as you are progressing, don't compare your worth to anyone's timeline, just keep on moving and preparing, dawn will certainly come.\n\nThanks for reading my post I'm inviting @rad-austine, @mesola and @josepha to participate. \n\n</div>\n\n<center><sub>Posted using [SteemX](https://steemx.org/)</sub></center>",
