| body | PINNED A tear ran down Pin’s cheek as he saw the carnage outside the hatch. A dozen Lost Dogs lay in very uncomfortable positions completely sliced up by the blade of what he now knew was a katana. They stood on the boardwalk of a large shed that sold vanity items and looked more or less like a gift shop. Below the boardwalk was a junkyard with close to twenty makeshift vehicles with all sorts of weapons attached to them. “You’ve still got it Red! This is beautiful.” He said as he wiped his cheek dry. She punched him hard in the chest before searching the bodies that lay scattered across the floor. “This is no life for a kid,” Logan said sadly. “Don’t pity me,” Red said. Logan caught Pin’s stifled laugh and promised to no longer consider these two as mere children. “Do you hear that?” Pin said suddenly serious. He ran around the corner of the shed and a struggle ensued. A punch could be heard before Pin shouted loudly. The sound of metal being slammed against someone echoed from around the corner and in the next instant, Pin dragged a barely conscious Lost Dog member. He was badly wounded but was still able to fill the air with the worst language Logan had ever heard in his life. “This lone asshole has completely fucked us!” Pin said nursing his sore jaw. “He’s got trucks coming in the next two minutes.” “We’ll never make it out in time,” Red said grimly. “Let’s make a perimeter and defend ourselves from within this shed. They can’t be that tough.” Logan suggested. “A truck holds twenty Lost Dogs. Three will surround this place in the next sixty seconds.” The Lone Dog said while spitting out blood every five seconds. “We go with Logan’s plan then,” Red said to Pin before tossing him a rifle from a dead Lost Dog. Pack every gun and get behind the counter. “Yes ma’am,” Pin said saluting her with a wide smile on his face. “You’re enjoying this way too much,” Logan said slightly disturbed. The three crouched behind the counter surrounded by trinkets, gifts, and odd novelty items. A hula girl swung her hips on the counter above Pin and he stared at it with childish awe. He held a rifle that fired bullets as long as a toothbrush tightly in his hands. Red and Logan held pistols. She had spent the last few seconds showing him how to release the safety catch. The sound of large vehicles pulling up outside the gate shook them out of their thoughts and they held their weapons tightly. Doors slammed open and boots crunched in the hot sand before the gate opened up slightly. The Lost Dogs saw their surviving comrade sitting on the ground. His facial expression was hidden well behind his goggles. Three of them ran to him to see if he was okay. Not one of them noticed the C4 Red had strapped to his back. She looked over the counter as their faces turned from worry to shock and smiled when her finger pushed hard on the trigger in her hand. The entire gate and a truck exploded into a fiery mess that flipped over in the sand before stopping many meters away from the junkyard. The Lost Dogs screamed as a good number of them had either been blown to pieces or had caught fire. Pin immediately placed his gun on the counter and opened fire on the annoying barbarians. They noticed where he was shooting from and began firing at the walls of the shop. The hula girl exploded into plastic pieces against the wall behind them and Pin looked distraught for a second before he resumed firing. Logan was firing at the few that got past Pin and some fell into the dirt. Logan's eyes opened as one crouched with a smile on his face. He bared his yellow, decayed teeth as he fired the rocket launcher he held in his hands. The entire front of the shop exploded into splintered wood and novelty items flew around the junkyard. Logan crouched in the corner of what was left of the shop with Pin in his tight embrace. His back had burns and some glass had found its way into his neck and shoulder. He got up and tore his checkered shirt at the sleeves before tying them around his waist and chest. The other wounds would have to wait. Pin was still shocked as to how he had just been saved by Logan and struggled to get to his feet. Logan could now clearly see the gang member holding the rocket launcher and he grabbed Pin by the arm, running towards the balcony overlooking the other side of the junkyard. The two fell into the dirt just as the shop blew up behind them. Neither had noticed when Red had left but after what she did with their captors, they knew she was safe. Pin grabbed the rifle he had managed to pick up on his way down and opened fire on the still advancing Lost Dogs. A large monster truck powered through from behind them with Red at the steering wheel. They jumped out of the way just as she drove through and she smiled awkwardly at them before taking a stern look. She flipped a switch on the dashboard before opening a glass case and punching her fist into a red button. Rockets shot out of the side of the monster truck and the sounds of wails rang through Logan’s ears. She fired off the rockets till every last Lost Dog was nothing but a smoldering corpse in the sand. Red kicked the door open and jumped from the high seat. Pin ran to her and hugged her before looking at Logan. “You saved my life, Logan.” He said as his eyes watered. “My life is now in complete service to you.” “It’s not that serious Pin, you’d do the same for me,” he said hiding the fact he was blushing. “No Logan, this is the fourth time you’ve saved me since you met me back in the forest. Anyone who’s gone through the sort of hardship you’ve survived would be a much darker person. You’re much stronger than anyone I’ve met.” “T-thank you, Pin,” he said as tears welled in his eyes. “The two couldn’t control the tears that were now streaming down their faces. Red cringed not even understanding how much these two had bonded in a matter of days. “When you ladies are done, we need to regroup with Stephano and take down Mr. Skin,” she said walking towards the back of the junkyard where she had found the monster truck. Pin and Logan walked to where the gate had stood and started looting the Lost Dogs. Pin jumped into the back of the only truck that hadn’t been destroyed. He screamed loudly before jumping down with an armful of beers. “There’s a whole bunch of snacks there. Logan, please help me get some of these down.” Red drove up with a black van and clicked her fingers impatiently. The two transferred the food and as many guns they could find before driving off. They didn’t hear the radio blaring from the chest of a Lost Dog. With three trucks worth of their men not giving any feedback from their attack, trouble was on the horizon. The sand looked like blue waves in the odd light of the eternal moon. “So it’s never morning here?” Logan asked as sat in front with Red and looked out the window with the breeze blowing through his thick black hair. “Nothing but moonlight and darkness is what Draug has left us infidels with. His blessed city of Ember is the only place in the forest that has any sunlight. Yet, things aren’t any better over there either.” “How did a guy so terrible ever get to that position?” Logan said after thinking this through. “There’s so much someone can do against a dragon, Logan.” She said a bit sadly. “You lost someone?” Logan said looking at her now. “Someone…? Logan, I’ve lost my parents, siblings, and even my fucking friends.” She bit her lip and tried fighting back tears. Logan stared at her before placing a hand on her arm. “We’ll avenge everyone Red,” he said softly. “It’s Keke,” she said before sniffing. “My name is Keke” “I’m kind of used to Red already,” he said laughing. “Good, because only Pin calls me Keke,” she said laughing as well. “You’re amazing Logan. That I can tell” she said smiling. He smiled at her before looking back out the window at the mountains of sand around him. Logan woke up to see Red violently turning the steering wheel. Bullets whizzed past his ears and the windscreen was riddled with holes. “What the hell’s going on?” Logan said “It’s the damn Lost Dogs again. I don’t know how they found us” she sounded frustrated as bullets still ripped through the van. Logan looked back to see a large flatbed truck with a minigun firmly attached to its rear. A skinny Lost Dog with piercings from his head to his belly stood shirtless emptying his cartridges in their direction. “It’s time these dogs met a wolf,” Logan said as hair sprouted from his neck and covered his face. His mouth stretched to a snout before he jumped out the window. “That was so cheesy!” Red shouted at him. His muscles expanded and the second his feet touched the sand, Logan had gone full werewolf. He ran towards the truck with his claws ready to strike. The shooter looked at him for a second but focused his fire at the van’s wheels. The second he ran past, his claws tore through rubber and metal like butter. The truck stopped suddenly like it had run into a wall and flipped multiple times through the sand. The shooter had taken care of their van and the same could be said for it as it tumbled over onto its side. Logan returned everything except his right arm to human form and marched over to the driver’s seat. He cut through the door and dragged an obese Lost Dog covered in sweat, sand and mustard stains out before he raised him off the ground. “Tell your people, you got us and you’re on your way back,” he said with the claw on his index finger pressed against his throat. He shook violently at Logan’s terrifying look in the poor light. “HQ, this is Beaker. The dingos have been dealt with. Returning home for a cold one, Over” he said trying his best to sound natural. “Beaker, this is HQ. See you in a few minutes” Logan let him fall to the sand and walked away. He saw the crushed body of the shooter beneath the flatbed and sighed deeply. The number of casualties on his way to Draug was rising too rapidly for his mind to remain the same when this was over. He suddenly remembered Pin and Red and ran towards the capsized van. The van was half buried in a mound of sand and Red wasn’t at the steering wheel. He didn’t see any footprints but he needed to check for Pin before he ran off looking for her. He slid the van door open to see the two making out on top of their snacks and guns which Pin hadn’t even bothered to arrange. “Does violence and high blood pressure drive the both of you horny or what?” Red stopped and had a fake look of shock with her hand over her chest. “You can’t ask questions like that Logan; I’ll ring up child services in a minute.” “Oh please…” he began before his jaw widened. “Red and Pin shared the same look before they pulled Logan into the van and shut the doors” The instant the doors slammed shut; the sound of powerful winds could be heard scratching against it. Pin turned on the lights of the van and sat back into his corner. “The only thing more annoying than Lost Dogs in the badlands is sandstorms.” The sound grew more violent by the minute and sand blew in through gaps in the door. “How long do they usually last?” Logan asked. “A whole day, Logan...” Pin said before snapping back the top of a beer and tossing one to him. “Get comfortable.” Logan took a sip and cringed from the strong taste he hadn’t gotten used to. His face squeezed up and the two kids laughed at him. “Sometimes, I wonder how many crimes I’d be charged with if I didn’t live in the forest,” Red said laughing. “It’s not so different outside, trust me,” Logan said through puckered lips “It has to be, to make a guy as soft as you.” Pin said punching his shoulder hard. “Am I really that soft? I thought I was something of a badass by now. “Oh please, the beast was more of a badass than you are man,” Pin said “Wow, a beast?” Red said smiling. “What’s the story behind that Logan?” “Well, I hadn’t spent a day in the forest when Pin decides to go snooping around in an abandoned school. Before we know it, we’re running down…” Logan went on with his stories as the wind continued to blow around their van. All of them lay there comfortably and completely unbothered by the noise. |

| body | BOUND Logan woke up feeling sore around his arms. He attempted to stretch but heard the clank of metal chains above him. He jolted fully awake in surprise and found out he was hanging from the ceiling by his wrists in a dark, damp room. In the few streams of moonlight, he could see the silhouette of Pin on the other side of the room. “Pin! What happened… how did we get here?” Pin spun around till he could face Logan. A stern, irritated look was plastered on his face. “The city was far behind us along with Hatchling’s men. Cornelius had taken good care of that. We were heading for the badlands, just to get a fucking second to catch our breath.” Logan remained silent as he saw Pin getting angrier by the second. “Then the Lost Dogs gang came from nowhere with their goggles and rusted vehicles tearing along the desert. We didn’t stand a chance against the electromagnetic vices they attached to our van. In less than a second, our van was flipping over in the sand behind their convoy and being dragged to their base.” “Where is Cornelius then?” Logan said before Pin sighed with disgust. “The bastard disappeared without us!” he shouted as he started kicking at the air in anger. “You had better be thinking of a way to break us out you snake!” he shouted again A hatch opened up above them and a thick-faced man with piercings on every part of his face looked down at them. “Hey, keep it down in there. Don’t make me come a visiting” “So what’s going to happen now?” Logan said. “What? We’ve got to hang around, Logan,” he said with a fake smile before spinning around in place. “I’ll just wolf up and break us out of here,” Logan said as hair began to grow from his arms and legs. “Go ahead. I’ll be here listening to them blast holes into you.” Pin said starting to enjoy spinning around. Logan looked hesitant for a second before he reverted back to his human form silently. “How are you able to flip back and forth so easily?” “I have to talk to this beast that shares my mind with me. It agrees to cooperate if my intent is one of violence.” “Dark, you’re cursed man,” Pin said grimly. “You have no idea,” Logan said The two remained chained in the dark room for hours till their wrists ached and it became hard to breathe. “If I had any energy left, I would curse the day Cornelius found his way to this world.” “We can’t blame him for ditching us. We just met him and we already caused so much trouble.” “Yeah but we’re awesome to be around. It’s never a dull moment with our squad.” “You know we haven’t even gotten your dad back from Mr. Skin yet.” “He’s fine Logan. Really, he is” “How can you be so sure?” “I’m sure because he’s my squad leader.” Pin said straight-faced. “He’s the squad leader of what, like an army?” “Yes, the Freeman Army. It’s our job to do our best to protect the few lives we can against Draug’s oppressive rule.” “That’s why you’re able to use a sniper rifle so well.” “Not just a sniper rifle. Pistols, rifles, RPGs, explosives, you name it. I’m the weapons expert in my squad.” “But, you’re a kid,” Logan said with his eyes narrowed. “Call me a kid again and see what happens.” he said embarrassed by Logan’s remark. “So Stephano is doing what, uncovering secrets at this moment?” “You know it’s weird how the questions you ask are also the answers.” “Wow, that’s impressive. So why are you still following me?” “Every now and then someone comes in here with the agenda to kill Draug. I’ll admit I had my doubts but the moment that Hatchling fell out of the sky, I knew.” “Knew what, I’m the one from some sort of prophecy?” “No dumbass, I knew you stood a chance to defeat Draug.” “I don’t think I could even if he was outside. I won’t exactly call my last fight a victory.” “Hundreds more would come for you. You’ll use them as practice till you know the easiest way to kill a Halfling.” “He has my wife,” Logan said remembering her last visit. “I’ve been tearing at myself for almost five months in a hospital ward crying over a living dummy.” “That’s more than enough reason to not hesitate when you see the lizard in person.” “You’re right.” He said looking at the ground far from his feet. “So is Pin like a codename?” “I told you why I call myself Pin!” he said suddenly getting defensive “I don’t believe you,” Logan said with a smile. “You got me, it’s because…” he began before a muffled scream could be heard from above them. They looked up frozen in fear and anticipation hoping to see Cornelius’s face in the next second. The hatch opened up and a figure clad in red fell into their room. The figure had a thick red jacket with a hood over its head. It didn’t waste second as it unsheathed a long katana that was strapped to its back. It swung at both Logan and Pin’s chains and the two fell to the ground gasping for breath and stretching their sore arms. “Pin?” a girl’s voice said in the direction of the hooded figure that had hidden the lower side of its face behind a pink bandana. “Red?” he said as he jumped to his feet and hugged her before lifting her off the ground. To Logan’s obvious discomfort the two began making out without even regarding his presence. His cleared his throat and the two teenagers laughed awkwardly. “How’d your mission go?” he said smiling more than Logan had ever seen before. “It was going great till two Hatchlings landed and left my savior scorched and smoky.” “Just the way they like them. Well, this is Logan, my savior” he said pointing at him without looking. “He’s a werewolf who also heals pretty fast if his wounds are bandaged up. Although he’s got some mental baggage” he said as he circled his finger around his temple. “Nice to meet you Logan,” she said with a smile. She had straight red hair that fell around her face. Other than her red jacket, she wore yoga pants and knee high boots. Every time she moved, a metallic clank could be heard from within her jacket. She liked knives, he could tell that much. “How’s your mission with taking down Mr. Skin?” She said looking back at Pin. “We were en route when this particular batch of Lost Dogs attacked us.” “Couldn’t handle a few Lost Dogs?” she teased. “There were too many. Besides we just took out a cleanup crew an hour earlier.” “There were just thirteen, I counted. Wait, a cleanup crew? What happened to the Hatchling?” “Red, you’re looking at the first savior to take down a Hatchling,” he said turning her towards Logan who was now too deep in thought to notice them looking at him. “I’m coming, Elizabeth,” he said aloud. Pin spun his finger around his temple before gesturing to Logan to follow them out of the room they had been kept in for hours. “I don’t know about you Logan, but I’m hungry as hell” Pin said before closing the hatch behind him. |

| body | TRAPPED “Who are you and how did I get here?” Logan said to the man who had obviously helped him. “My name is Cornelius, the city’s only Doctor and part time Bokor. You are in Lambridge Down. Your friend Pin brought you here. The poor boy carried you for four hours.” “Jeez, I’m really starting to get fond of the boy. Where is he? I want to thank him” he said trying to hide his smile. “Why he’s up just one floor. He had a full meal and went to sleep. He should be awake by now” “Might I ask, though? Why is it still dark outside? I’ve been in this forest for close to twenty fours and not once have I seen the sun.” “That my boy is what I need to tell you. The magic that corrupts this forest as well as afflicts both you and your wife is the handiwork of a certain court mage by the name of Verus; a servant of Draug.” “Another person I have to deal with. I had hoped it was just Draug responsible for the state of things.” “You sir have more than Verus to worry about if you think you want to get to Draug.” “You mean his lackeys and stooges? I’ve heard of Mr. Skin. How many could they really be?” “How do seven highly trained sociopaths with power over miles of territory sound?” “S-seven… Nobody said anything about them being seven.” He stammered. “Those are just his wardens. Draug has control over the only thing that has made people worship him and allow the mere utterance of his name to bring fear into the bravest heart. Have you heard of his Hatchlings? “Hatchlings,” he said getting up to his feet obviously feeling like he wasn’t fit for this. “What are Hatchlings?” “Hatchlings are his private army; half dragon, half human soldiers with the ability to cover large distances in a few hours and leave their targets and everything in its vicinity nothing but a pile of ash and bone. “Hypothetically, though, on what occasion would he consider it necessary to release these Hatchlings?” “On occasions like your arrival,” Cornelius said grimly. A loud explosion from outside interrupted the conversation and the two headed to the balcony. There is something about light that allows it be seen from the furthest distance on even the darkest night. This was the case as roaring flames could be seen enveloping a building far from where they stood. Flames tore through the sky again much closer this time and Logan could swear he could feel its heat. “What is it, who’s attacking? He shouted struggling to see what it was in the dark sky. “It’s a fucking Hatchling!” Pin shouted from behind them. He held a sniper rifle almost the same length as him with the confidence of a veteran. “Pin? Do you even know how to use one of those?” Logan said. Pin ignored him as he ran to the balcony and fell to the floor. He looked through the scope till he could see a winged man with black and red armor breathing fire onto a group of people that tried to run down the street. Pin held his breath and squeezed the trigger. A smile stretched across his face as the bullet took a direct course into its belly. The Hatchling shouted in pain but its dark, powerful wings let it hover in the sky. It turned its head towards the direction of the shot and made a beeline for it. Pin had barely moved his head away from the scope when a huge man flew in with green glowing eyes, screaming in anger above his head. Its hands twisted and bent till scales and claws replaced everything human about it. It didn’t waste a second as it took a slash at the unwary Pin with its target being his neck. A hairy hand stopped the attack and now a dragon stood face to face with a wolf. “Ah, so you’ve become a werewolf! A dangerous dog must be put down!” it said with a smile that showed its wicked intent. It wrapped its arms around Logan and flew out the balcony. “How many times would you people try this?” Logan shouted over the sound of air rushing through his ears. He opened his mouth and took a large bite into the Hatchling’s neck. It screamed as its blood ran down Logan’s chin and splashed onto the streets below. Its hands released their hold and Logan tumbled through the air violently towards the ground. He landed head first on the flat roof of the building below him and lay there looking at the Hatchling screaming with its hands holding the spot on its neck and back where blood rushed from heavily. Logan looked satisfied, realizing how weak these Hatchlings had turned out to be. After all, they were half human. His confident look suddenly turned to one of terror as the already dark streets were covered by the shadow of a great beast. He got up quickly to gaze properly at the sheer size of the dragon that now flew above him. Its armor had fallen to the streets below and its human skin had been swapped in for thick, reptilian scales. Its wings flapped slowly, yet with every flap, Logan’s hind legs slid further back on the roof. Its green eyes settled on the lone figure of Logan and they narrowed with hate. Without warning, it released its fire from the deepest pits of its belly and the entire roof was engulfed in flames. Logan was now running for his life on all fours as he jumped from one roof to another in an attempt to escape the constant onslaught that was being volleyed at him. A deep laugh could be heard from where the dragon hovered and hopelessness fell upon Logan’s heart. He knew he couldn’t keep it up forever and the embers from each attack fell on the streets below or burned right through the building. The night was being drowned in the screams of the innocent. Logan looked at the Hatchling carefully. It had to have a weakness. For a minute, he couldn’t see a thing but as he got closer, he could see smoke spouting from a large hole in its belly. No doubt it was the wound it had sustained from Pin’s shot. The hole was getting bigger every time flames lit up the sky and he could tell it was killing itself all in the name of following commands. He knew at this moment, this was his only chance. He ran fast towards it; each jump to a building bringing him closer to the presence of the juggernaut. He saw the hole as smoke erupted from it. All he had to do was find a way to get to where the fire came from in its belly and expand it till it burned from the inside out. He got to the building that was closest to it. The dragon stared at him with rage ready to strike. Flames poured from its mouth and at that moment, Logan jumped towards it. His claws dug into its belly and he stood here firmly attached. He raised his right paw and began slicing away at its flesh. It bellowed in pain and the sound echoed throughout the city. Logan clawed until he could feel the heat seeping out of it. The beast bent its neck attempting to burn Logan at the expense of its own potential damage. Logan looked up at it as it breathed upon him. Flames spilled through the hole in its belly and covered Logan entirely. His hold on its belly loosened and he fell off before landing hard on the street below. The beast seemed to scream as it twisted and contorted in the night sky. It returned to its human form and lost its ability to fly. The Hatchling rolled through the sky before it landed a few meters away from Logan. Rain began to fall slowly onto the burning city. The sounds of screams suddenly turned to ones of joy as the rain extinguished every flame. Logan lay there naked with burns on many parts of his body. He looked at the dying Hatchling bleeding onto the pavement. Rain ran down both their naked bodies and along the streets into the gutters. “How many more of you are there?” Logan said. Every word was an effort in itself. “Hundreds,” It said before its last breath escaped its throat. A wisp of smoke rose out of its mouth and its green eyes turned gray. “Damn,” Logan said before his eyes closed again. A van pulled up beside Logan. Pin sat at the steering wheel with Cornelius in the back. He grabbed Logan and immediately began tying bandages. “Make a left here!” Cornelius shouted over the sound of the engine as he dressed Logan with what he enjoyed wearing according to Pin. “We need to get out of the city,” he said as he looked back at the armored jeeps that sped after them. “Why do these hatchlings always have a cleanup crew?” Pin said struggling to swerve through the narrow streets. “Because of the B Team every one of these saviors has.” he said looking at Logan. “I’m no sidekick! If anything, I’m the hero of this story.” “Let’s continue this argument when we’re in the badlands.” He said struggling to focus on speeding up Logan’s healing. A blue aura could be seen emitting from beneath the bandages. “Sure thing boss….” Pin began before he noticed a jeep had rerouted and was now driving down the road towards him. He closed his eyes as the vehicles slammed into each other and theirs was thrown into the air. Glass and twisted metal flew around Pin’s head as the car rolled uncontrollably before landed in the middle of a closed clothing shop. Pin got out feeling pain all over his body as pieces of glass fell from his hair. He cursed under his breath as he limped to the back of the van. Cornelius sat there with a transparent blue dome surrounding both he and Logan. “You didn’t think it would have been nice if that had protected me too? My bloody ankle is broken” he said obviously upset. “I’m sorry. Hold still,” he said pointing his finger at Pin’s foot. A loud crack echoed through the abandoned store and Pin yelped in pain. “Thanks, but you could have warned me.” he said angrily. “We need more time, Pin. They’ll surround us in minutes and kill Logan. You need to hold them back till he’s conscious.” “Knowing him that would take hours.” he said before walking over to the front seat of the now totaled van and pulling out an assault rifle. “Be careful,” Cornelius said without looking up from what he was doing. “Don’t I get a shield or whatever?” he said “No” “Fuck you,” he said before walking to the spot in the shop they had run through. Men clad from head to in thick, black Kevlar trooped out of the jeeps. They positioned themselves behind cover and watched the store for the slightest movement before they stormed it. One of them raised his hand to gesture to the rest to rush in and a bullet ran through his head. The rest looked shocked at the level of precision in the poor light for a second before they began to open fire. Pin pressed his body tightly against the concrete wall as their heavily advanced guns tore through the building. He got up every now and then to dispatch one or two but they soon confirmed his position and began to concentrate fire there. He crawled across the ground back to Cornelius. “Is he going to jump in anytime soon? I need to tag in my sidekick” he said smiling awkwardly. “Afraid not,” Cornelius said before sighing loudly. “I had hoped it wouldn’t come to this,” he said before leaving the van and walking till he got outside into the pouring rain. The men stopped firing and remained crouched in their positions more confused than anything else. Cornelius began to swing his hands in the air like a conductor who could hear music that wasn’t there. Light blue strings began to dance around him in the air. They twisted and bent like snakes following the movement of his hands. Cornelius, whose eyes had been closed since he stood there, finally looked at his targets. The strings lashed out faster than anything Pin had ever seen. They ran through every armored adversary till they lay on the ground in pools of their own blood. Cornelius smiled sheepishly as he walked back to where Pin and Logan were. “Enjoyed yourself didn’t you?” “More or less, yes” “I-I’m sorry about cussing at you earlier,” he said a bit nervously “Don’t worry kid. I like you too much to do that to you. For now” Pin gulped before running over to where the soldiers lay. He threw a few guns into the back of a jeep before running over to Cornelius and helping him with Logan. In a few minutes, they tore down the highway towards the badlands. The city would have them in jail in an hour for all the damage they had done in just an hour. Damien sat in the void. His eyes focused on the point Elizabeth had come from. He could hear whispers from beyond the darkness that sounded like gunfire and the voices of Cornelius and Pin. He wasn’t going to wake up yet. He had to wait to see if Elizabeth would return. All his memories of her had been destroyed but he couldn’t ever forget his wife. |

| body | REUNITED The fire crackled loudly in the lone cabin. The snow caked the mountain in a white blanket. “You’re so beautiful,” Damien said as he lay below Liz. The two lay beside the fireplace with a half-finished bottle of wine in arm’s length. He kissed her bright red lips before she upright and straddled him slowly. He moaned while she smiled and placed her hands on his waist. He held her to prevent her from falling and ran his hands down her chest till his fingers circled her nipples. It was her turn to moan as Damien increased the tempo and the two began to sweat regardless of the winds that blew against the walls. They collapsed into an exhausted heap and smiled at each other silently. Liz placed a hand on his face with her eyes locked in his gaze. “I’m pregnant, Damien,” she said smiling. Damien sat upright suddenly with wide eyes and a big smile on his face. “When did you know?” he said excitedly. “Last month,” she said as her smile matched the size of his. “We’re pregnant!” he shouted before dancing naked in front of her. He stopped for a second and lifted her off the ground before spinning around. “Oh! We can’t do all that anymore” he said before placing her on the closest sofa. “Damien, you’re so crazy,” she said to him as he knelt beside her and ran his fingers through her hair. “I can’t believe we’re pregnant.” He whispered. Logan woke up next to Pin in the middle of a hollow tree. The torch had been twisted around a vine and hung above them. Logan’s body was sore from the awkward position and he crawled out to stretch. His heart sank as he noticed it was still pitch black outside. He walked down the road a bit to see if there was any point of interest in their route. He walked a few steps when he was covered in the moonlight. Blood rushed to Logan’s heart and he grabbed his chest in pain. His knees hit the dirt and his stomach muscles twisted painfully. His now black hair quickly grew along the length of his nape and down to his back. His arms and legs twisted till they looked like a dog’s and he fell on his side from the excruciating pain. His ribcage expanded and he could feel muscles moving to the now expanded space. Then his mind went blank. A beast now got its feet with its hind legs bending at an odd angle. It sniffed the air and howled a deep and sorrowful howl. It got on all fours and took off down the cobblestone road. Pin sat fixed to the spot. He had heard the howl and remembered the monster that had almost killed him a few hours ago. His heart skipped a beat as he realized Logan was missing. He pulled the torch from where it was hung and prepared to crawl out from within the tree. He could see the forest floor as he looked out. All was clear at the moment. He crawled out slowly and now stood alone on the road. “Logan!” he shouted through cupped hands. “That dude ditched me,” he thought. He was still thinking when a giant shadow flew past his eyes. The beast stood in front of him and looked even angrier than before. It was breathing heavily and Pin was being covered in its heat. Its eyes narrowed like it was trying to understand something. Pin was pale with fright as it towered over him silently. It craned its neck back and howled loudly. Pin noticed this was a different howl from what had woken him up earlier. A lone howl could be heard from a long way off and the beast turned towards it. It took off without giving Pin another look. Pin collapsed on the ground in sweat, his heart rattling in his chest. Logan wept. He was trapped within his own mind; sharing it with the carnal intent of the monster that had taken over his body. He could feel its wicked nature craving for the flesh of the innocent. Logan towered over a small village. Its people screaming as they tried to escape into the forest. Fire had erupted over a few houses when Logan had broken through a fireplace in his entrance. He had already slaughtered two of these people; people that could have aided him in his task to get to Mr. Skin or even tell him the location of Draug. He couldn’t apologize or even control his arms that now brandished claws at the end of them. Logan grabbed at a small girl and could feel her in his hands. Tears were streaming down her face uncontrollably. These tears ran off her face and reached the skin beneath his fur. Logan’s heart pulsed as the tear landed on his arm. The monster’s hold on his mind weakened and took a backseat. He could suddenly control his body and he dropped her gently on the ground. She looked up at him still slightly scared but now sure he wouldn’t hurt her. Her eyes widened as she looked at something behind him. Logan barely moved his head when he was grabbed around the waist and slammed into the building in front of him. He turned around quickly to look up at the beast in all its massive glory. Logan’s transformation was nowhere similar in size. It pulled its arm back ready to slash at Logan. Logan could see its movement clearly and noticed how slow it was now. He dodged it cleanly and jumped into the air above the beast. Its head craned painfully to see him. Logan knew that sleeping was no longer an option for this beast. He had to take it down before it killed someone or made another one. Logan fell fast with his claws stretched out beside him. He landed right on top of it and they sank into its back. The beast turned around suddenly to grab at him but Logan was practically reading its moves. He jumped off and ran back a few feet. The beast was getting frustrated and howled loudly. The howl shocked Logan and froze him in place. It ran forward fast and slashed at him. This time its claws hit home and he was thrown into a tree. The beast bared its teeth and to Logan, it looked more like it was smiling. He suddenly remembered its utterance back and the tree. He knew it could talk if it wanted to. He hoped he could beg it to stop. Logan opened his mouth and attempted to make words but only a soft yelp escaped his throat. “Don’t bother begging for your life boy. You can’t get through to me” it said mockingly. It cleared the distance between the two of them and took a swing at him. Logan dodged it easily and ran into his blind spot. He wasn’t going to try and attack him. He needed to see if he could reason with it. He could still feel the monster fighting back in his mind to take control. His head hurt from the effort. He was now dodging slashes as well as trying to get himself to speak. The beast was getting faster now. It was anticipating where he would dodge to and was now increasing the range of its attack. Logan jumped over a house and ran into the forest. The people hiding and watching the fight screamed as he broke through the trees. The beast followed suit immediately after with pure rage pushing it on at this point. Logan slammed into a tree too thick for him to break through and fell painfully onto the ground in front of it. The beast caught up and took a slash at his neck. He dodged in time and heard the tree being sliced cleanly in two. The beast knew it had him cornered now and raised its arm above his head. “Stop!” Logan shouted in a voice that was half beast and half human. “Why are you doing this?” “Because it’s fun!” the beast shouted. “Then there’s no chance that you’ll stop?” Logan struggled to say “Not in a million years.” it said “Alright then” Logan said sadly before plunging his hand through the beast’s chest. The beast’s eyes rolled in its head and it grabbed at Logan’s hand in an attempt to free itself. “Y-you bastard” it said before it gave up and dropped to its knees. Logan pulled out his hand and watched it fall to the side. “Don’t say I didn’t give you a chance.” Logan said both sadly and in relief. He felt his fear subside and almost immediately his hair began to retract and his body bent back into place. He laid there naked both sore and in pain. The slash he hadn’t dodged left deep wounds in his belly. He didn’t have anything to use as a bandage so he limped back through the gap he had made in his fight back to the village he had destroyed. The villagers had found their way back and were now fixing up what they could. They turned around in fear at Logan thinking he was one of the monsters that destroyed their houses. Their faces eased up when they saw it was just a man and turned to worry when they saw the level of injury he had sustained. Logan limped towards them for a few minutes before he fell to the ground unconscious. It was dark. He knew his eyes were open but all he could see was pure darkness. Darkness so thick he couldn’t even see his hands in front of him. “Elizabeth!” he shouted into the empty void. “Elizabeth?” he asked himself. “Why would I shout that?” The air became thinner around him and it was becoming a burden to breathe. “Who is Elizabeth?” he shouted struggling to get a grasp on the connection. He could tell he knew the name but just couldn’t tell where he had heard it. He was choking now, suffocating from the lack of air. He woke up in a pool of sweat. His entire torso was wrapped in bandages and an IV was hooked up to his arm. He sat up easily, knowing fully well his wounds had healed and looked around the room. The room smelt of damp wood and a lone light bulb swung from the ceiling. He pulled out the tube attached to his arm and the clear liquid dripped onto the cracked concrete ground. He had been fitted with everything except for a shirt and looked around for one. The Crow man’s gun was also missing. He stood bare-chested in the middle of the room wondering where he was exactly. He ran his hand over where the beast’s claw had dug out and felt the abs that his sister had given him. “So magic is the only way you get these,” he said smiling down at the muscular ridges. He walked out the room and saw the low standard people of the forest had to endure. He stood over a balcony that was on the twentieth floor of a building that overlooked a city full of hundreds of similar ones. They were all tightly packed with narrow streets and even smaller roads with vintage cars parked along them. It was still weirdly nighttime or at least closer to dawn as the sky had a blue tinge to it. People walked around regardless of the time, covered in dirt, scars and wearing rags. Kids couldn’t be seen anywhere but he could hear them crying uncontrollably in every direction. “What am I doing here?” he said genuinely not knowing his mission in the forsaken city. “To save your wife” a voice boomed from behind him. A black man in a doctor’s coat stood with a grim look on his face. He was totally bald except for a thick goatee and was quite muscular underneath the coat. “You need to lie down right now before it’s too late.” “I don’t have to do anything,” Logan said edging away from the strange man that seemed to have magically appeared in the room. “You do if you want to save Elizabeth,” he said still stony-faced. His words hit home as Logan quickly calmed down. “Elizabeth is my wife?” he said with his hands pressing down on his temples. “Indeed, now please Damien, lie down quickly,” he said pointing towards the bed he had just gotten up from. “How did you know my name was Damien?” “The magic disguising your identity is weak. The one that is canceling out the memory of your wife is even weaker. Please relax.” The man ran his hand over Damien’s head before pressing his thumbs against his scalp. A sharp pain suddenly shot through his head and he fell into the void again. It was warmer and friendlier this time. Yet it was still dark. He stood there wondering what would happen. A light shone in the darkness. A tiny one but it was enough to see he was naked. The light ran upward till a vertical line cut through the black. Suddenly a hand pushed through and remained there. Logan ran forward and grabbed at it. It was stuck behind the light and he pulled hard. He pulled for what felt like an hour before Elizabeth tumbled out. The tiny light opened wide and the void was drowned in a blue tint. “Damien!” she gasped as she lay on top of him. “Elizabeth,” he said as tears ran down his face. “I’m so sorry, for everything that has happened to you.” “You don’t need to apologize, Damien,” she said as tears filled her eyes and she ran her hand along his face. She kissed him longingly and cupped his face in her hands. He flipped her on her back and kissed her neck. She gasped as his lips met her nape. He kissed her chest till his lips circled her nipples. He sucked hard on them like it was the first time he had seen them. She moaned before running her hands down his back. He ran his hands along her thighs before spreading them around his waist. He kissed her as he slid into her. They both moaned remembering the feeling. Her hands held onto his back firmly as he increased the tempo. Her chest heaved with every thrust and her erect nipples rubbed against his chest. They went on for hours; resuming every time they regained their energy till they lay on the blue floor kissing deeply. “How can I ever get you back?” he said remembering this was only temporary and in his mind. “I’m not sure where I am. All, I can say is you have to go to where the sky is red and the ground is scorched. That’s where he has kept me.” “That’s where Draug has kept you. What does he want from you?” “He wants a family. He wants a bride.” “Wait a minute, so then whose body is in a coma in the hospital?” “I’m glad I’m here to tell you, Damien. I’ve been here for months. That body is not mine” His eyes widened as he thought of the time and money he had spent on nothing. “So I’ve been crying over an empty vessel.” He said grinding his teeth in anger. Elizabeth screamed suddenly and Logan could see her body vanishing into specks of light that were rising into the sky. “The magic is fading.” She said panicking. He tried to hold onto her but each part he grabbed exploded into particles and joined the others vanishing into the air. “Find me, Damien! You have to end this nightmare” she said crying “I will Elizabeth,” he said still trying to grab at her until she disappeared entirely and the black void returned. “I swear I’ll find you” |

"body": "REUNITED\nThe fire crackled loudly in the lone cabin. The snow caked the mountain in a white blanket.\n“You’re so beautiful,” Damien said as he lay below Liz. The two lay beside the fireplace with a\nhalf-finished bottle of wine in arm’s length. He kissed her bright red lips before she upright and\nstraddled him slowly. He moaned while she smiled and placed her hands on his waist. He held\nher to prevent her from falling and ran his hands down her chest till his fingers circled her\nnipples.\nIt was her turn to moan as Damien increased the tempo and the two began to sweat regardless\nof the winds that blew against the walls. They collapsed into an exhausted heap and smiled at\neach other silently. Liz placed a hand on his face with her eyes locked in his gaze.\n“I’m pregnant, Damien,” she said smiling.\nDamien sat upright suddenly with wide eyes and a big smile on his face.\n“When did you know?” he said excitedly.\n“Last month,” she said as her smile matched the size of his.\n“We’re pregnant!” he shouted before dancing naked in front of her. He stopped for a second\nand lifted her off the ground before spinning around.\n“Oh! We can’t do all that anymore” he said before placing her on the closest sofa.\n“Damien, you’re so crazy,” she said to him as he knelt beside her and ran his fingers through her\nhair.\n“I can’t believe we’re pregnant.” He whispered.\nLogan woke up next to Pin in the middle of a hollow tree. The torch had been twisted around a\nvine and hung above them.\nLogan’s body was sore from the awkward position and he crawled out to stretch. His heart sank\nas he noticed it was still pitch black outside. He walked down the road a bit to see if there was\nany point of interest in their route. He walked a few steps when he was covered in the\nmoonlight. Blood rushed to Logan’s heart and he grabbed his chest in pain. His knees hit the\ndirt and his stomach muscles twisted painfully. His now black hair quickly grew along the length\nof his nape and down to his back. His arms and legs twisted till they looked like a dog’s and he\nfell on his side from the excruciating pain. His ribcage expanded and he could feel muscles\nmoving to the now expanded space. Then his mind went blank.\nA beast now got its feet with its hind legs bending at an odd angle. It sniffed the air and howled\na deep and sorrowful howl. It got on all fours and took off down the cobblestone road.\nPin sat fixed to the spot. He had heard the howl and remembered the monster that had almost\nkilled him a few hours ago. His heart skipped a beat as he realized Logan was missing. He pulled\nthe torch from where it was hung and prepared to crawl out from within the tree. He could see\nthe forest floor as he looked out. All was clear at the moment. He crawled out slowly and now\nstood alone on the road.\n“Logan!” he shouted through cupped hands. “That dude ditched me,” he thought.\nHe was still thinking when a giant shadow flew past his eyes. The beast stood in front of him\nand looked even angrier than before. It was breathing heavily and Pin was being covered in its\nheat. Its eyes narrowed like it was trying to understand something. Pin was pale with fright as it\ntowered over him silently. It craned its neck back and howled loudly. Pin noticed this was a\ndifferent howl from what had woken him up earlier. A lone howl could be heard from a long\nway off and the beast turned towards it. It took off without giving Pin another look. Pin\ncollapsed on the ground in sweat, his heart rattling in his chest.\nLogan wept. He was trapped within his own mind; sharing it with the carnal intent of the\nmonster that had taken over his body. He could feel its wicked nature craving for the flesh of\nthe innocent. Logan towered over a small village. Its people screaming as they tried to escape\ninto the forest. Fire had erupted over a few houses when Logan had broken through a fireplace\nin his entrance. He had already slaughtered two of these people; people that could have aided\nhim in his task to get to Mr. Skin or even tell him the location of Draug. He couldn’t apologize or\neven control his arms that now brandished claws at the end of them. Logan grabbed at a small\ngirl and could feel her in his hands. Tears were streaming down her face uncontrollably. These\ntears ran off her face and reached the skin beneath his fur. Logan’s heart pulsed as the tear\nlanded on his arm. The monster’s hold on his mind weakened and took a backseat. He could\nsuddenly control his body and he dropped her gently on the ground. She looked up at him still\nslightly scared but now sure he wouldn’t hurt her. Her eyes widened as she looked at\nsomething behind him. Logan barely moved his head when he was grabbed around the waist\nand slammed into the building in front of him. He turned around quickly to look up at the beast\nin all its massive glory. Logan’s transformation was nowhere similar in size.\nIt pulled its arm back ready to slash at Logan. Logan could see its movement clearly and noticed\nhow slow it was now. He dodged it cleanly and jumped into the air above the beast. Its head\ncraned painfully to see him. Logan knew that sleeping was no longer an option for this beast.\nHe had to take it down before it killed someone or made another one.\nLogan fell fast with his claws stretched out beside him. He landed right on top of it and they\nsank into its back. The beast turned around suddenly to grab at him but Logan was practically\nreading its moves. He jumped off and ran back a few feet. The beast was getting frustrated and\nhowled loudly. The howl shocked Logan and froze him in place. It ran forward fast and slashed\nat him. This time its claws hit home and he was thrown into a tree. The beast bared its teeth\nand to Logan, it looked more like it was smiling. He suddenly remembered its utterance back\nand the tree. He knew it could talk if it wanted to. He hoped he could beg it to stop. Logan\nopened his mouth and attempted to make words but only a soft yelp escaped his throat.\n“Don’t bother begging for your life boy. | body | SCARED Damien sat at his dining table with his laptop in front of him and his fingers typing furiously. His brows furrowed as he picked up his calculator and jotted down the result. Piles of paper lay on the table and some had fallen onto the ground. Damien sat back in his chair and sighed loudly. “How’s it this month?” Liz said softly. She spoke like every word was part of her own secret song. “Bad. We’re this close to having to settle for food stamps.” He admitted “At least we don’t have to go that far yet. We’ll make it,” she said reassuringly. “This is no life, Liz. I can’t get you what you need. Should I just ask my mother for money?” “Damien,” she said placing her hands over his and looking him in the eye. “You once swore to me that you’ll never resort to asking your mother for money. That’s the whole reason you left; to be your own man.” “This isn’t what I wanted for you, Liz. You deserve so much more” he said looking into her eyes. “Trust me Damien, when I need diamonds and sports cars, I’ll tell you. For now, I’m happy with this. I’m happy with us.” “What did I do to deserve someone like you?” “I should be asking you that,” she said before sitting across his thighs. She smiled before leaning in and kissing him. “I love you, Damien” “I love you, too,” he said. “What?” Pin shouted. “Have you been listening to anything I’ve been saying?” he asked slightly offended. They walked down a less choked path where a cobblestone road seemed to run through. Pin held the Crow man’s torch in nothing but a hoodie and his shorts. He walked slightly ahead of Logan confidently. “What have you been saying?” Logan said slightly dazed from returning from his daydream. “I said we have to be careful around these parts. We’re in Mr. Skin’s district.” He said “Who is this Mr. Skin anyway? Why does he rule a whole district?” “He’s the king of con men. He rules a textile company that is just a cover for a drug trafficking ring.” “Why does he need it to be a cover? You obviously have no law enforcement agency around here” “It’s a cover because of Draug. He’s more or less a dictator but he hates that the root of the corruption in his kingdom is public.” “He’s not doing a great job then. This place has gone to the dogs.” “You better shut your mouth if all you’re going to say is going to get another one of us kidnapped.” “Yeah about your dad, how far are we from Mr. Skin?” “Honestly, I don’t know. That’s what I was telling you back when your eyes grayed over and you zoned out. Logan stopped dead in his tracks and stared at the boy who was definitely going to get him killed. “You mean we’re lost?” “You’re lost everywhere in these woods. We’re just not where we need to be” Pin said with a face too plain for Logan’s growing impatience. “You little shit!” he started with his face squeezed to the physical definition of anger. “Shut up for a second.” Pin said without even batting an eye. “What is it?” Logan said calming down almost immediately. “Don’t you hear that?” Pin said craning his head trying to find where the noise was coming from. A deep moaning could be heard not too far from them and Pin jogged towards it leaving Logan to his hesitation. They walked up to an abandoned school which went up for up to three floors before the branches twisted to form the makeshift sky. “That’s the highest I’ve seen the branches go since I’ve gotten in here.” “The branches aren’t everywhere. Just here in Skin’s district. They try to escape from the smoke coming out of his factory. They don’t go far before they give up and wither.” Pin said slightly sad. “This place must be hard to live in for a kid,” Logan said “Please don’t pity me,” he said before he rushed forward to follow the moaning that still echoed through the silence. The school was covered in rust and dirt. Glass was missing from panes and doors were either broken or missing entirely. Graffiti stretched every inch of the outside all the way to the second floor. The closer they got, the less complete the building was. Scaffolding stuck out at many parts of the third floor and pieces of it spread across the ground around the two. The inside was worse as dust and decay stretched across the hallways. The lockers were without doors and desks were thrown in different positions. Cigarettes, needles and glass pipes meant that this was a haven for junkies. They kicked bottles as they walked towards the moaning with the beam of light bouncing along the hallway. They stopped outside a classroom and looked each other. Both didn’t have the heart to open up the door and see what could make such a disturbing sound. “Let’s play rock, paper, and scissors?” Pin asked with a smile. Logan returned the smile and put his fist next to Pin’s. Pin laughed quietly as Logan crept to open the door a few seconds later. His heart beat loudly in his chest as he got closer to the moaning. “Just do it!” Pin said and Logan pushed the door open suddenly. It swung quickly and slammed into the wall before falling off its hinges. Dust flew into the air as the door hit the ground. Pin gasped as the torch fell onto a scrawny man in the corner who was forcing a metal cuff to clasp around his left wrist. He stood in the corner trembling violently before he opened his mouth. “You have to run! Please before it begins.” The man struggled to say Logan looked at Pin for a second before they both took off down the hallway. The silence that was broken by the sound of their shoes crunching debris and miscellaneous items was further disturbed by the loud sound of a concrete wall being broken into powder. Logan looked back to see a large hairy beast shaking the dust off its fur before running on all fours towards them. They got to the stairwell and Pin cleared the stairs in a jump before slamming into the wall in front of it. Logan skipped four steps at a time as he trailed behind the boy who was now a floor below. The beast grabbed at Logan as it was too big to fit into the stairwell. Logan felt relief for a second as he got to the ground floor beside Pin and the two ran into the front yard of the school. They were barely twenty feet out the front door when the wall behind them exploded into a shower of debris and glass. The beast landed hard on the dirt in front of them and let loose a deep and powerful howl that made the ground below them shake. Its upper body was the body of a large and terrifying wolf while the rest of it was human with dark hair covering every inch of it. “Split up!” Logan said as he ran to the left while looking at both Pin and the beast in the corner of his eye. The beast looked confused as it struggled to determine who to attack. It tried to swing at Logan but he ran into its blind spot just in time. Logan looked at its giant paw as it barely missed him. Claws the length of his head stretched from each digit and tore at the air around him. Logan and Pin didn’t even look back as they ran into the dark forest. Logan suddenly regretted it as he found himself in deep, unnatural darkness. The torch was still with Pin and now he had to run through the forest with his hand stretched in front of him. Logan could feel the ground shaking beneath him for a while before it reduced to a mere tremor. The noise could now be heard many feet away from where he stood as the beast most likely chased after the light coming from Pin’s torch. He couldn’t let the boy get ripped to shreds after he had just gotten his father taken. He sighed deeply before he shouted random words to get the creature’s attention. He knew he had gotten it as trees began to splinter and bend in a straight line towards him. He couldn’t outrun this beast so he jumped up into the closest tree. He hoped Pin had turned off his torch and was going to choose to hide as well. He climbed to the highest branch before he collapsed against the tree in exhaustion. The beast tore through the trees not far from him and stopped suddenly. It growled angrily and let bare his long teeth. Logan held his breath as the creature began to sniff the air for him. It barely sniffed for a minute before it craned its neck back and looked directly at a trembling Logan. Its yellow eyes narrowed as it began to tear away at the base of the tree with its claws. It didn’t get far with this exceptionally thick tree and it clasped its hands around it in an attempt to push it down. “What the hell are you?” Logan managed to say as sweat ran down his face. “I’m the big bad wolf motherfucker,” it said before unearthing the tree completely. Logan fell into neighboring branches as they scratched and tore at him on his way down. They slowed his descent but he still fell painfully right at the feet of the beast. It bent over and opened its mouth; exposing hot breath onto Logan. He knew the gun would have no effect on a monster this powerful and closed his eyes in expectation of his fate. His mind raced as he thought of how he could possibly escape from something like this. A thought popped into his mind and he stared deeply into the yellow eye of the wolf. “Sleep,” he said as he hoped his ability would stretch to the man within this monster. The creature looked unfazed before it swayed slightly. Its powerful legs slammed into the dirt and the rest followed. It collapsed face first onto Logan and its longest fang on the left side of its large mouth sank into Logan’s arm. He shouted in pain before he struggled to pull it out of his arm and pushed the heavy head on the ground beside him. It slept soundly like a dog and the threat to Logan’s life a second ago suddenly disappeared. Logan looked at the deep wound in its arm. He knew it would heal quickly but he remembered the man in the school that had turned into this. He looked through the tightly woven mess of branches above him and could see the full moon shining brightly in the sky. The beast on the ground in front of him was a werewolf. He tore a length of his shirt and knotted it tightly around his arm. The pain was already starting to fade. He realized the wounds needed to be bandaged to rapidly heal but his mind kept wondering if he would become this creature before his task was over. “Logan!” a voice whispered from the bushes not far from him. “Are you alive?” Pin said before emerging from the shrub. “Let’s imagine I wasn’t. How do you think this beast would have answered that question?” “Being coy now aren’t we?” he said with a smile. “How’d you manage that?” he said pointing to the sleeping creature. “Just one of my many tricks,” he said a bit proud of himself. “Good work. Remind me never to investigate strange noises in abandoned buildings.” “You know, I’m starting to see why your dad has a problem with you.” “You’re delusional, I’m a saint” Pin said laughing before punching him on the arm. The two laughed as they kept following the path hoping to find a way to find Mr. Skin and save Stephano. Logan’s mind was a mess as he thought about his wife and how much time he was wasting trying to fix what he had gotten this boy’s father into. He also thought about the wound on his arm as he nursed it from the punch Pin had given him. “I don’t want to hurt this kid,” he thought to himself as the two walked silently along the cobblestone road. |
