| body | http://honeybadgerofmoney.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/honeybadgers.jpg I got into Steemit because it appeared to be an honest avenue to earn spare income. I'm not totally sure if I believe or undersatnd the vision or the networking effect behind it. When you purely gamify content, won't this place eventually become a crossroads of the side effect of signature campaigns and reddit posts? A mix of funny content which serves to act as a noise or a distraction. The virtue of removing gamificaiton allows that we find satisfaction first in the ability to add insight and/or knowledge into other strangers lives as a means of paying it forward for the next chance at gaining some similar insight from someone else. Sometimes, when the community is small enough, the potential for reaping those rewards is great. However, as knowlege of the community becomes widespread that value seems to paradoxically diminish as more users join in. That lack of quality as the community grows, seems to drive away the original participants, thus slowly eroding the quality of the contributions in aggregate. So when I first learned of Steemit I was amazed with the community and the rush to bootstrap as many participants as possible. As an /r/bitcoin moderator I've not really put the efforts into being here nor there much (nor on [honey badger of money](http://honeybadgerofmoney.com)) either just based on the lack of time I have available in my day. I've decided that I no longer wished to spend through crypocurrency to live so thus I've resorted to securing work like everyone else. I don't quite know that I'd stay retired if I could - why bother when there are a plethora of ideas to be attempted, code to be reviewed, software to poke fun at post deployment, and of course, scams to be detected, avoided, and reported. If you use this site often, I ask, do you spend more time reading or writing? Do you abuse the internet looking for answers to questions that can only be answered by your own judgement (not someone else's). Why? Well, it's easy to fell overwhelmed with what you should be doing with your time. If you're looking for some answer from me based on my experiences I can tell you this: we all seem to gaze and idolize at the successes and pursuits of others when in fact we should just enjoy our own. Don't compare - mark twain will tell you that it is the death of joy. Someone else I once heard (in what I think was a ted talk) also claimed that this term, to `compare` also leads to the birth of Misery. Live your life for enjoying all the moments. I bet you're here because you're broke and wish to earn some money by reaching the front page. That is the wrong mantra to have. I say as such because imagine that if you did reach such success, you now gear yourself into a reward cycle. If you happened to have gotten lucky then you'll feel crushed or worse compelled to chase by whatever means to obtain that quick gain yet again. Hopfully, intead, perhaps you find a formula that works for you and decide to roll with it and it yeilds net gains for you for a while. That can work, but only for as long as you can keep it enjoyable. To avoid the pitfall of compare, I implore you to expand beyond your comfort and to continue growing. Keep evolving, and keep producing. Steemit really pulled me in initally because I was hoping that I could monetize in my spare time a bit more than the efforts of [hbom](http://honeybadgerofmoney.com) would find a plethora of different content that could be discovered and enjoyed or that could be used as a good point of reference but ultimately found that in steemit land too all that glitters isnt gold by way of the rampant bitconnect fuckery which is essentially a ressurected MMM Global and THAT was simpy the nail in the coffin. What seemed awesome at first but then gradually boring after a while was the content regarding lifestyle and advice from Charlatains. I do accept Steemit for wares on my sites but have not yet seen interest nor sales - Are many of you turning your steem rewards into fiat or into Bitcoin? Is anyone here doing this as a living and actually suceeding as a full time steamian? We'd love to hear how you spend your schedule in the comments below! Did you have a period of transition from there this went from being a thing to do for fun to an actual endeavor that you treaded with the dedication of a craft? If you're still feeling like a relative newcommer like me (despite having an account on here for over a year), do you see this system as feasible in any shape or form based on the inflationary model? I cannot see the token achieving greater value without having other mechanisms, goods, and services availble to use with the coin - and a means to spread where those aforementioned articles can be acquired. Thanks for reading, do me a solid by actually sharing some feedback as well. Here's a bitcoin song from 2014 for your thoughts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raU1CU6p6wc |

Are there any real world users on here who got into it organically through the investment of time then eventually put some funds towards it or did you perhaps invest via crowdfund and you're still playing it to this day? #### Why am I asking? I like magic the gathering so I'm simply trying to look at how similar time can be invested to yeild the same reward with a financial gain together. | body | Thankfully I am not in high school I am actually 40 years old. I have worked in the technical field sense I was 19 years old. I can say some experiences are a lot simpler to get work than others. It often also depends on the field and somewhat the background. I don't feel I was shafted in any way. I also agree do the work to get the work. I spent a very long time working 8-10 hours a day 5-7 days a week on applying to jobs following what I listed in this blog. It was harder than a full time job. This is only the 3rd time in my life that finding a job took more than a few weeks. You are correct in your comparisons. It takes effort to achieve anything in life. I do thank you for your input and experience. |

| body | reading your story makes it sound like you got shafted. Maybe you're still in your teens and finished with high school? You speak as though you had an opportunity cost lost by seeking employment - you didn't lose out on 20K - you got the chance to earn income by seeking it out. It's the same as a relationship - you don't just get the girl to marry you without putitng in the time on yourself, mentally, physically and financially. And even then - not all dates lead to a lasting relationship. Same with a career path - you put in work to find one and waste many years sometimes trying to make something work out when it won't but at the end of the day, all you need is to have that source of income to make your life's challenges more bearable. Maybe I got really lucky but I found that the efforts are cover letter > phone call > skills test > interview > hire. Paperwork has not meant job application in a long time - I have a resume but I barely brush it up as I'm not exactly looking all too often, fortunately. |

| body | source: http://blog.kraken.com/post/1183/bitcoin-cash-and-a-critical-alert-for-margin-traders-part-2-2/ When exactly will the fork happen? The exact time cannot be known in advance because it is based on “median time.” Median time is the median of the timestamps of the last 11 blocks. When median time increments to 12:20 pm UTC (or later) on Aug 1 the new rules for Bitcoin Cash activate. So the last common block of Bitcoin (XBT) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) will be the first block that makes the median time increment to 12:20 pm UTC (or later) on Aug 1. And the first block that gets mined after the last common block will mark the point at which the chains part. What time will Kraken use to determine how many BCH I receive? We will use the timestamp of the last common block. In other words, the timestamp of the first block that makes the median time increment to 12:20 pm UTC (or later) on Aug 1 (see paragraph above for further explanation). We will look at the XBT balance you had at this timestamp and add an equal amount of BCH to your balance (so if you had 10 XBT at this time, you will end up with 10 XBT and 10 BCH). How late can I send my Bitcoin deposit and still receive Bitcoin Cash? As stated above, we will use your Bitcoin balance as of the timestamp of the last common block. We require 6 confirmations before a Bitcoin deposit is credited to your balance, so you must send your deposit early enough to allow for 6 confirmations by the last common block. In our previous post, we stated that we will disable Bitcoin funding at 11 am UTC on Aug 1. We now plan to allow funding past 11am and will keep it open long enough for clients to make the final 6 confirmation deadline. However, we will not make any announcement marking the deadline for deposits to be sent and strongly recommend that everyone send us their final deposits no later than 11 am UTC on Aug 1 just to be safe. How can I track the median time the BCH fork depends on? In a recent post about the fork activation timing, the Bitcoin Cash team points out that median time trails clock time by about 6 blocks. So the last common block will be approximately the 6th block with a timestamp after 12:20 pm UTC clock time on Aug 1. There is also at least one block explorer that gives the median time in UTC: https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/blocks?s=median_time(desc) We cannot vouch for the accuracy of this site, however, so tracking the median time this way should be considered approximate at best. When will BCH balances be credited and trading begin? While we will try to credit BCH balances and enable trading in the pairs BCH/XBT, BCH/USD, and BCH/EUR as soon as possible after the last common block, we cannot say in advance when this will be. We appreciate your patience as we make the necessary preparations to credit balances and open trading. Warning: only send BCH deposits to BCH deposit addresses when they become available (do NOT send any BCH to XBT deposit addresses) We will not enable BCH funding until we think it is safe to do so, and we do not know in advance how long this may take. It could be 24 hours or longer after BCH trading is enabled that BCH funding is available. Do not send any BCH deposits until we make BCH-specific deposit addresses available. We will not honor BCH deposits sent to XBT-specific deposit addresses. We will notify clients via social media (see below) when BCH funding has been enabled. Be sure to split your coins post-fork before sending us XBT or BCH deposits (see the basic splitting instructions at the bottom of this blog post for instruction on how to split your coins). Alert for Margin Traders (also see previous blog post for more details) Long XBT margin positions open as of the timestamp of the last common block will result in a BCH credit example 1: margin buy (long) 10 XBT/USD = +10 BCH (long xbt, short usd) example 2: margin sell (short) 10 ETH/XBT = +10 BCH (short eth, long xbt) Short XBT margin positions open as of the timestamp of the last common block will result in a BCH debit example 1: margin sell (short) 10 XBT/USD = -10 BCH (short xbt, long usd) example 2: margin buy (long) 10 ETH/XBT = -10 BCH (long eth, short xbt) Treatment of negative balances (BCH debit) Accounts with negative balances will be prevented from withdrawing any assets until all assets have balances >= 0. Negative balances are not hard to correct. If you have a negative balance of -10 BCH, simply buy 10 BCH or deposit 10 BCH and the balance will automatically correct. BCH will not be a collateral currency Be careful about trading any collateral currencies for BCH if you have margin positions open, because this will reduce your collateral currency balance and could cause liquidation of your margin positions. The same caution should of course be taken when trading any other non-collateral currency assets while you have margin positions open. Extreme volatility and cascading liquidations should be expected Trading on margin in an environment of such high possible volatility is extraordinarily risky. Chances are high that Kraken’s bitcoin markets will become substantially disengaged from one another and out of sync with other global markets. The safest play is to exit your margin positions ahead of the fork and ride it out unleveraged. Service availability not guaranteed We often see denial of service attempts that coincide with instances of high market volatility. Traders should plan for intermittent and unpredictable access to the Kraken service and other possible unexpected behavior. |

"body": "\n\nsource: http://blog.kraken.com/post/1183/bitcoin-cash-and-a-critical-alert-for-margin-traders-part-2-2/\n\nWhen exactly will the fork happen? The exact time cannot be known in advance because it is based on “median time.” Median time is the median of the timestamps of the last 11 blocks. When median time increments to 12:20 pm UTC (or later) on Aug 1 the new rules for Bitcoin Cash activate. So the last common block of Bitcoin (XBT) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) will be the first block that makes the median time increment to 12:20 pm UTC (or later) on Aug 1. And the first block that gets mined after the last common block will mark the point at which the chains part.\n\nWhat time will Kraken use to determine how many BCH I receive? We will use the timestamp of the last common block. In other words, the timestamp of the first block that makes the median time increment to 12:20 pm UTC (or later) on Aug 1 (see paragraph above for further explanation). We will look at the XBT balance you had at this timestamp and add an equal amount of BCH to your balance (so if you had 10 XBT at this time, you will end up with 10 XBT and 10 BCH).\n\nHow late can I send my Bitcoin deposit and still receive Bitcoin Cash? As stated above, we will use your Bitcoin balance as of the timestamp of the last common block. We require 6 confirmations before a Bitcoin deposit is credited to your balance, so you must send your deposit early enough to allow for 6 confirmations by the last common block. In our previous post, we stated that we will disable Bitcoin funding at 11 am UTC on Aug 1. We now plan to allow funding past 11am and will keep it open long enough for clients to make the final 6 confirmation deadline. However, we will not make any announcement marking the deadline for deposits to be sent and strongly recommend that everyone send us their final deposits no later than 11 am UTC on Aug 1 just to be safe.\n\nHow can I track the median time the BCH fork depends on? In a recent post about the fork activation timing, the Bitcoin Cash team points out that median time trails clock time by about 6 blocks. So the last common block will be approximately the 6th block with a timestamp after 12:20 pm UTC clock time on Aug 1. There is also at least one block explorer that gives the median time in UTC:\n\n https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/blocks?s=median_time(desc)\n\nWe cannot vouch for the accuracy of this site, however, so tracking the median time this way should be considered approximate at best.\n\nWhen will BCH balances be credited and trading begin? While we will try to credit BCH balances and enable trading in the pairs BCH/XBT, BCH/USD, and BCH/EUR as soon as possible after the last common block, we cannot say in advance when this will be. We appreciate your patience as we make the necessary preparations to credit balances and open trading.\n\nWarning: only send BCH deposits to BCH deposit addresses when they become available (do NOT send any BCH to XBT deposit addresses) We will not enable BCH funding until we think it is safe to do so, and we do not know in advance how long this may take. After about a week I saw my pick was starting to bend slightly so I was a bit worried, but I was still determined. So tonight while taking a break between cs50 videos, I decided to relax and watch some locks vids on youtube and I was able to get the lock opened again using the messed up bent pick. At that point whil also watching a video, the person said that a MAJOR mistake was putting on too much tension... that was exactly what was going on...now that I'm putting on the slightest 'feather' tension as I like to think of it - works u guys!!!!! Okay so now I'm hooked - I heard there was a locksharing program or trades group? Is that true? I'm thinking of digging out an old shillage lock I've got and trying that next. This was a really awesome and rewarding experience, thanks again. |
