John Medina in his “Your Best Brain” book states that TV for kids is toxic because it doesn’t teach them anything! Thinking about this now I ask myself “Does this apply to games”. I don’t think so. \n\nMy reasoning: There was a very interesting Steemit post I went through the other day, detailing why playing certain games is actually good for kids. I did some further research and can agree. Some of the findings are improved logic, reflexes, reaction time, problem solving and a lot more BUT one needs to be carefull. Kids at this age are still developing and like most things requires delicate balance. \n\nMy son is also showing a talent not in playing games but in this field. He will sit with my iPad and run through Apples coding app ‘Swift Playground’ for hours and I see the passion in solving it, moving drip around and the way he is “in the app”. Its when he is writing this code I see myself. Ok so I couldn’t see myself when I was young but I can remember the passion, the excitement and the enjoyment. Many of you will say that Im been a typical dad and he is a typical kid but to for those who have ventured through Swift Playground will understand that its not a game, its learning how to code, logic, problem solving and more. For a 5 year old I am impressed. \n\nI believe that kids need to find their own passion in life but for them to find it they need to be exposed to as many things as they can, when they find something they like, harness it and see if it takes them somewhere. If my little dude can relate coding to games andhe enjoys both then maybe this is his future. But as I said, careful balance is needed and the “gaming” part of it will need to be used as a reward for doing what a normal kid should do, that play outside. \n\nOn the gaming front I bought COD WW2, went home, put it in and then I went to bed……..15gb update…are you serious!, did you rewrite the game or something Sledgehammer! \n\nAndrew",

The reason I ask this is because about 2 years ago I bought Star Wars Battlefront. It was well reviewed and I’m a Star Wars Fan (yes I’m a geek but I do other stuff too :) ). As you can guess I didn’t play it at all, I put it once into a PS4 when and then it went into the draw under my TV. \n\nLast week I took it out to play and it was badly scratched. Obviously one of my kids took the disc and went to town with it. I called the store I bought it front to enquire about a replacement disc and they said it cant be done! What? In this digital day and age? Surely I have purchased the rights to 1 copy of the game and that should remain with me forever. They are not cheap after all. I walked out the store saying I sill rather buy from the PS Store. Digital copy, forever. \n\nThat got me thinking. Is that fair? Are we removing the need of retail shops. Think about how many people are employed due to the need of getting the disc in store. The entire environment which includes, delivery guys (Logistics), clerks (Sales), the Landlords (retail space), builders to build the building etc. The list goes on forever. \n\nSo what to do? Buy Call of Duty WW2 online or go in store.\n\nDoes anyone know if this problem has been dealt with and a digital copy is acquired simultaneously with a hard copy?\n\nThanks",

My wife knew it, and so did friends and family. I would close myself up in the study when everyone went to bed, and play for hours on end. You see I can talk about WOW for many hours, but to make this as short as possible, it became part of my life. Not only the gaming aspect but the community aspect. I think that’s why WOW had such a great following, it was able to pull millions of people together from different parts of the world, social barriers, classes etc. In Azeroth we were not who we were on earth, we were our characters. \n\nAfter a couple of years playing I took a break to focus on work, life etc. I played a couple of other games here and there but a few months later I was back on WOW, loving every minute. Again a few years later I took a small break again. This time when I wanted to return to WOW I thought if there was anything better to do with my time? \n\nIf I could dedicate 4 to 5 hours a day towards something else, something that could better me, wouldn’t that be better? “Let me study” I told myself. \n\nThe seriousness began. Focus this, focus that. Work, Work.  And instead of playing games, I studied. After I completed my degree I played a serious mans game, golf. Was I good? No! But I played it for a few years trying to get good (lol). \n\nI haven't played a game seriously since WOW and the excuse has always been “nothing is as good”. Its not that. I became too serious .  Now I have an amazing wife, 2 awesome kids and Im almost 40. I think getting back into Gaming is a great mid life crisis to have .\n\nOK so its not only a mid life crisis. Something is guiding me into this direction and Ill elaborate tomorrow on this. \n\nOn the gaming front. Im playing Call of Duty WW2 with my brother in law tomorrow evening.
