| body | Hello! Welcome! Congratulations! You qualify for this once in a lifetime opportunity! Be quick, because time is running out! https://imgur.com/LhFQItN.gif Just kidding, good morning. If you are like me, you woke up, flipped to [coinmarketcap](https://coinmarketcap.com/), [blockfolio](https://www.blockfolio.com/), [binance](https://www.binance.com/), [coinstats](http://coin-stats.com/) or any other coin watcher and scoured the listings to see what was going on in the crypto markets or checked for news on [reddit](https://www.reddit.com/), [twitter](https://twitter.com/), [coinmarkercatl](https://coinmarketcal.com/) and/or every single one of the 500 [telegram chat rooms](https://steemit.com/beyondbitcoin/@jza/crypto-telegram-groups-for-all) you are currently in. If you are not like me, and have no clue what any of that means or have never heard of any of these apps or links, please read [this](https://dealbook.nytimes.com/2014/01/21/why-bitcoin-matters/) link before reaching the point of [spaghettification](https://spacemath.gsfc.nasa.gov/blackh/4Page33.pdf). If you are new or just interested in learning, I recommend diving into some of the links and terms sprinkled throughout this post. Most importantly, do your own research! Before we get started, I'd like to share a little bit about myself. I am about to graduate college with a degree in geography and environmental planning, however; this was only after failing both statistics and price theory- twice- and then being found ineligible for the economics portion of this combined major. *sigh* Anyways, when I tell people that I study geography, the reaction is almost always the same. https://imgur.com/O03MO6V.gif This is usually followed by the daunting question of "what are you going to do with that?" While I do not know what the future [hodls](https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=375643.0) for me, I can tell you that it involves crypto. I can also tell you that more people have been geographers than you may expect! For example, [Michael Jordan](http://geoawesomeness.com/top-5-famous-people-studied-geography/) got a degree in Geography from Chapel Hill, [Alexander von Humboldt](https://www.thoughtco.com/famous-geographers-1435034), who was referred to by Charles Darwin as "the greatest scientific traveler who ever lived" is known as one of the founders of geography, [Mother Theresa](http://geoawesomeness.com/top-5-famous-people-studied-geography/), was a teacher of geography in Kolkata, India before starting her missionaries. [Erostathanes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eratosthenes) and [Immanuel Kant](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immanuel_Kant) were both geographers who profoundly impacted the field of human observation, philosophy, and the study of the world. As we reach the point of [spaghettification]( https://spacemath.gsfc.nasa.gov/blackh/4Page33.pdf) I want to be clear that my purpose for this article is to elaborate on what I see as a substantive gap between the world of digital currencies and the people and stories that make them up. These stories will guide you and help you understand what is going on, so keep an open mind- we are all still learning about this as a community. To start off, I humbly offer the use of geography as a tool for understanding the crypto space like a normal person. We do this by *doing* geography- or more specifically; looking at the relationships between people, the planet, and practically everything in between including, but not limited to; currency, identity, enterprise, food, weather, sex, class, and technology. The better you get at this, the better you are at predicting future outcomes- an incredibly valuable skill. https://imgur.com/soIO1IQ.gif I would like to begin with what I believe to be the most determining factor in the success of bitcoin and other digital currencies; [Trust](http://www.behaviouralinsights.co.uk/uncategorized/social-trust-is-one-of-the-most-important-measures-that-most-people-have-never-heard-of-and-its-moving/). In 2015, the [Behavioral Insights Team](http://www.behaviouralinsights.co.uk/) found that trust is one of the strongest indicators of strength and quality in communities and societies around the world. [David Halpern](https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-halpern-09202111), the head of the team stated in the interview that "[trust] is a more [powerful predictor](http://freakonomics.com/podcast/trust-me-rebroadcast-2/) of future national growth rates than, for example, levels of human [capital](https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=capital) or skills in the population." If you would like to learn more about the data and economics behind this team, I strongly recommend the Freakonomics podcast, [Trust Me](http://freakonomics.com/podcast/trust-me-rebroadcast-2/), with some of the members of the Behavioral Insights Team. To save you some time I will share some of the findings of the Behavioral Insight Team made on the podcast, of which can be searched in the [full transcript](http://freakonomics.com/podcast/trust-me-rebroadcast-2/); *One study paired Harvard college students to mimic financial interactions, one student would be investing or sending money to someone without the certainty that they would get their money back. A lot of the cheating occurred in pairings of students of different races. Specifically, whites cheating asians in the mock interactions. https://imgur.com/vhvUkCW.gif *People in college are much more trusting than those who have not been to college. *Diversity makes a population more creative and innovative. *Television is *really* bad for social connectivity. https://imgur.com/2QHu0hZ.gif The conclusions and observations made by the team may explain why the people bogged down by screens, in small and homogenous spaces, on or off campus, may not be trusting of you, or anyone for that matter. While the internet gave people e-commerce and social media, [e-cash](https://www.coindesk.com/economist-milton-friedman-predicted-bitcoin/) was left behind. To pull a quick quote from [HBR](https://hbr.org/2015/06/transparency-trust-and-bitcoin), "At the heart of any currency is trust: trust in one another." And if there is one thing you can trust, it's that people aren't going to stop using computers...unless things get, like, *really* bad. Besides, it was the world famous economist [Milton Freidman](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leqjwiQidlk) who suggested that one of the roles of e-cash would be to reduce the roles of third parties in online transactions and he couldn't have been more correct when he foresaw that; "The one thing that’s missing, but that will soon be developed, is a reliable e-cash, a method whereby on the Internet you can transfer funds from A to B, without A knowing B or B knowing A.” While bitcoin and the alt coins may not be the most reliable yet, it's without a doubt a start. The next part of this story involves the NSA. https://imgur.com/251ymYn.gif In 1996, the National Security Agency Office of Information Security Research and Technology, Cryptology Division, wrote a report titled [How to Make a Mint: The Cryptography of Anonymous Electronic Cash](http://groups.csail.mit.edu/mac/classes/6.805/articles/money/nsamint/nsamint.htm#Introduction) outlining the traits, securities, and issues with digital currencies and the inevitable creation of such a system. "The usual security features for such systems are *privacy* (protection from eavesdropping), *authenticity* (provides user identification and message integrity), and *nonrepudiation* (prevention of later denying having performed a transaction)." Now, here is where, as a geographer, it's important to consider the timing of this. Bitcoin doesn't come into existence until 2008, so how and why is it important that this occurs when it does? The NSA's recognition and report shows a genuine foresight into the inevitable abuses of the information age and e-commerce revolution and the subsequent answer to those problems. This is also irrefutable evidence of the advantages and strengths offered by a reliable e-cash and its [use cases](https://techcrunch.com/2017/11/19/100-cryptocurrencies-described-in-4-words-or-less/)(read this for 100 other use cases!). This is the science and the people behind Crypto. Reading the NSA report will get you substantially ahead of the pack. So, for the moment you have all been waiting for... https://thumbs.gfycat.com/LightDentalGreatwhiteshark-size_restricted.gif In 2008, the Bitcoin [white paper](https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf) was published under the [pseudonym](http://www.dictionary.com/browse/pseudonym) [Satoshi Nakamoto](https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Satoshi_Nakamoto). The same year as the 2008 [global financial crisis](http://positivemoney.org/issues/recessions-crisis/). This crash was due to 1) the creation of too much money via the excess of loans made, 2) subsequent money being used to drive up housing prices via speculation, 3) an inability of the public to pay the inflated prices of the loans, and finally 4) the collapse of the global financial market as a whole. A lot of people lost a lot of money. Not a lot of people were held accountable. The banks and participants that allowed this were bailed out by public tax dollars. The people who lost everything were not bailed out. In this instance, it was the abuse of power by small group of people that destroyed the finances and banking system for virtually everyone. In this specific and catastrophic abuse of power was allowed by banks with permission to pool customers' savings and other sources of their capital and participate in reckless and speculative finance. Both the people and nature of the finance highlight the danger of centralization. The protocols and rules that make up blockchain applications decentralize the control of the network, reducing the authority of individuals involved and enabling trust to a peer-to-peer system. These networks shift the trust from third party entities and places into the protocols controlling the network, "a method whereby on the Internet you can transfer funds from A to B, without A knowing B or B knowing A," as Friedman would say. Now [thousands of digital currencies](https://cryptocoincharts.info/coins/info) are being traded and the cogs of the globe are churning. Below are a collection of the layers I have found with regard to a good base understanding of what's happening in the world of digital currencies. Before digging in, take a [look here](https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2017-bitcoin-volume/) and get an understanding of *where* these currencies are being traded. # Governmental Japan is now the land of [crypto currencies](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwKAwXrpdOU). Midori Kanemitsu, the CFO of the largest digital currency exchange in Japan, bitFlyer Inc, stated that; [“Effectively, Japan is the first and only country that has a proper legal system regulating cryptocurrency trading,” Kanemitsu said. “That’s a big deal. Before the law regulating cryptocurrencies, people worried what would happen to their money if an exchange were to go bust.”](https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2018/01/23/business/japan-global-leader-cryptocurrency-investment/#.WnZeSZM-f-Y) In the US, the official stance of the [Federal Reserve](http://time.com/4709783/federal-reserve-bad-for-america/) is that they cannot cannot ban bitcoin ["other than assuring that banking organizations that we [the fed] do supervise are attentive, that they are appropriately managing any interactions they have with participants in that market, and appropriately monitoring anti-money laundering, bank secrecy act responsibilities that they have.”](https://cointelegraph.com/news/us-fed-chair-speaks-out-on-bitcoin-and-national-crypto) In Korea, one [Justice minister](https://www.cnbc.com/2018/01/16/over-200000-sign-petition-in-south-korea-to-stop-bitcoin-regulation.html) came forth and stated that the government may ban crypto trading, the response was swift. Within a couple of days, a petition made over 200k signatures to fire that minister prompting a mandatory response from the South Korean government. The president stated there will be no such ban in the [foreseeable future](https://www.emchat.net/emchat/2018/1/16/south-koreas-government-confirms-again-that-there-will-be-no-cryptocurrency-ban)- except on [anonymous trading](http://www.businessinsider.com/south-korea-bans-anonymous-cryptocurrency-trading-2018-1). In Russia, "digital financial assets"have been legalized "as securities" and will be exchangeable on open and regulated exchanges. The government also clarified that this "quasi-money" [will not be considered cash.](https://www.forbes.com/sites/kenrapoza/2018/01/29/russias-newly-drafted-cryptocurrency-bill-crypto-not-cash/#1a7ec677646e) France and Germany both support a bill to regulate [bitcoin and digital currencies.](https://phys.org/news/2018-01-france-germany-bitcoin.html) # Institutional The largest bank in Japan is launching a digital currency exchange with their own crypto currency [pegged to the yen.]((https://news.bitcoin.com/japans-largest-bank-to-launch-cryptocurrency-exchange/)) In South Korea, [$2.6 billion](https://www.emchat.net/emchat/2018/1/28/the-south-korean-national-pension-fund-has-invested-in-local-cryptocurrency-exchanges) in pension funds were put into the Korean exchanges, Korbit, Upbit, and Bithumb. I have accepted this obsession as my responsibility and have decided to build a company with the purpose of using this new technology to solve the myriad of dynamic problems in the world that have been waiting to be solved. This is a journey that, with no doubt, will be filled with trial and tribulations and while the road ahead of me is uncertain- I am not. As I pursue this journey, I will continue to post my progress and try to help other learn from my mistakes as much as possible. So watch, you heard it here first- and if you have taken the time to read this, thank you, please let me know what your thoughts are, I am hungry for feedback. My next post will be covering all the various ways I have been trying to start this empire, there is a lot of exciting things in the works and I will need all of the help I can get. In the meantime, stay classy, stay educated and stay tuned. |

If you are like me, you woke up, flipped to [coinmarketcap](https://coinmarketcap.com/), [blockfolio](https://www.blockfolio.com/), [binance](https://www.binance.com/), [coinstats](http://coin-stats.com/) or any other coin watcher and scoured the listings to see what was going on in the crypto markets or checked for news on [reddit](https://www.reddit.com/), [twitter](https://twitter.com/), [coinmarkercatl](https://coinmarketcal.com/) and/or every single one of the 500 [telegram chat rooms](https://steemit.com/beyondbitcoin/@jza/crypto-telegram-groups-for-all) you are currently in.\n\nIf you are not like me, and have no clue what any of that means or have never heard of any of these apps or links, please read [this](https://dealbook.nytimes.com/2014/01/21/why-bitcoin-matters/) link before reaching the point of [spaghettification](https://spacemath.gsfc.nasa.gov/blackh/4Page33.pdf). If you are new or just interested in learning, I recommend diving into some of the links and terms sprinkled throughout this post. Most importantly, do your own research!\n\nBefore we get started, I'd like to share a little bit about myself. I am about to graduate college with a degree in geography and environmental planning, however; this was only after failing both statistics and price theory- twice- and then being found ineligible for the economics portion of this combined major. *sigh*\n\nAnyways, when I tell people that I study geography, the reaction is almost always the same. \n\n\nhttps://imgur.com/O03MO6V.gif \n\n\nThis is usually followed by the daunting question of \"what are you going to do with that?\" \n\nWhile I do not know what the future [hodls](https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=375643.0) for me, I can tell you that it involves crypto.\n\n I can also tell you that more people have been geographers than you may expect! For example, [Michael Jordan](http://geoawesomeness.com/top-5-famous-people-studied-geography/) got a degree in Geography from Chapel Hill, [Alexander von Humboldt](https://www.thoughtco.com/famous-geographers-1435034), who was referred to by Charles Darwin as \"the greatest scientific traveler who ever lived\" is known as one of the founders of geography, [Mother Theresa](http://geoawesomeness.com/top-5-famous-people-studied-geography/), was a teacher of geography in Kolkata, India before starting her missionaries. \n\nAs we reach the point of [spaghettification]( https://spacemath.gsfc.nasa.gov/blackh/4Page33.pdf) I want to be clear that my purpose for this article is to elaborate on what I see as a substantive gap between the world of digital currencies and the people and stories that make them up. These stories will guide you and help you understand what is going on, so keep an open mind- we are all still learning about this as a community.\n\nTo start off, I humbly offer the use of geography as a tool for understanding the crypto space like a normal person. \n\nhttps://imgur.com/soIO1IQ.gif \n\n\nI would like to begin with what I believe to be the most determining factor in the success of bitcoin and other digital currencies; [Trust](http://www.behaviouralinsights.co.uk/uncategorized/social-trust-is-one-of-the-most-important-measures-that-most-people-have-never-heard-of-and-its-moving/).\n\nIn 2015, the [Behavioral Insights Team](http://www.behaviouralinsights.co.uk/) found that trust is one of the strongest indicators of strength and quality in communities and societies around the world. [David Halpern](https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-halpern-09202111), the head of the team stated in the interview that \"[trust] is a more [powerful predictor](http://freakonomics.com/podcast/trust-me-rebroadcast-2/) of future national growth rates than, for example, levels of human [capital](https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=capital) or skills in the population.\"\n\nIf you would like to learn more about the data and economics behind this team, I strongly recommend the Freakonomics podcast, [Trust Me](http://freakonomics.com/podcast/trust-me-rebroadcast-2/), with some of the members of the Behavioral Insights Team.\n\nTo save you some time I will share some of the findings of the Behavioral Insight Team made on the podcast, of which can be searched in the [full transcript](http://freakonomics.com/podcast/trust-me-rebroadcast-2/);\n\n*One study paired Harvard college students to mimic financial interactions, one student would be investing or sending money to someone without the certainty that they would get their money back. A lot of the cheating occurred in pairings of students of different races. Specifically, whites cheating asians in the mock interactions.\n\nhttps://imgur.com/vhvUkCW.gif\n\n*People in college are much more trusting than those who have not been to college.\n*Diversity makes a population more creative and innovative.\n*Television is *really* bad for social connectivity.\n\nhttps://imgur.com/2QHu0hZ.gif\n\nThe conclusions and observations made by the team may explain why the people bogged down by screens, in small and homogenous spaces, on or off campus, may not be trusting of you, or anyone for that matter. While the internet gave people e-commerce and social media, [e-cash](https://www.coindesk.com/economist-milton-friedman-predicted-bitcoin/) was left behind. To pull a quick quote from [HBR](https://hbr.org/2015/06/transparency-trust-and-bitcoin), \"At the heart of any currency is trust: trust in one another.\" \n\nAnd if there is one thing you can trust, it's that people aren't going to stop using computers...unless things get, like, *really* bad.\n\nBesides, it was the world famous economist [Milton Freidman](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leqjwiQidlk) who suggested that one of the roles of e-cash would be to reduce the roles of third parties in online transactions and he couldn't have been more correct when he foresaw that;\n\n\"The one thing that’s missing, but that will soon be developed, is a reliable e-cash, a method whereby on the Internet you can transfer funds from A to B, without A knowing B or B knowing A.” \n\nWhile bitcoin and the alt coins may not be the most reliable yet, it's without a doubt a start. \n\nThe next part of this story involves the NSA.\n\nhttps://imgur.com/251ymYn.gif\n\nIn 1996, the National Security Agency Office of Information Security Research and Technology, Cryptology Division, wrote a report titled [How to Make a Mint: The Cryptography of Anonymous Electronic Cash](http://groups.csail.mit.edu/mac/classes/6.805/articles/money/nsamint/nsamint.htm#Introduction) outlining the traits, securities, and issues with digital currencies and the inevitable creation of such a system. \"The usual security features for such systems are *privacy* (protection from eavesdropping), *authenticity* (provides user identification and message integrity), and *nonrepudiation* (prevention of later denying having performed a transaction).\"\n\nNow, here is where, as a geographer, it's important to consider the timing of this. Bitcoin doesn't come into existence until 2008, so how and why is it important that this occurs when it does?\n\nThe NSA's recognition and report shows a genuine foresight into the inevitable abuses of the information age and e-commerce revolution and the subsequent answer to those problems. This is also irrefutable evidence of the advantages and strengths offered by a reliable e-cash and its [use cases](https://techcrunch.com/2017/11/19/100-cryptocurrencies-described-in-4-words-or-less/)(read this for 100 other use cases!).\n\nThis is the science and the people behind Crypto. Reading the NSA report will get you substantially ahead of the pack. \n\nSo, for the moment you have all been waiting for...\n\nhttps://thumbs.gfycat.com/LightDentalGreatwhiteshark-size_restricted.gif\n\nIn 2008, the Bitcoin [white paper](https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf) was published under the [pseudonym](http://www.dictionary.com/browse/pseudonym) [Satoshi Nakamoto](https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Satoshi_Nakamoto). \n\nA lot of people lost a lot of money. Not a lot of people were held accountable. The banks and participants that allowed this were bailed out by public tax dollars. The people who lost everything were not bailed out. \n\nIn this instance, it was the abuse of power by small group of people that destroyed the finances and banking system for virtually everyone. In this specific and catastrophic abuse of power was allowed by banks with permission to pool customers' savings and other sources of their capital and participate in reckless and speculative finance. \n\nBoth the people and nature of the finance highlight the danger of centralization. \n\nThe protocols and rules that make up blockchain applications decentralize the control of the network, reducing the authority of individuals involved and enabling trust to a peer-to-peer system. These networks shift the trust from third party entities and places into the protocols controlling the network, \"a method whereby on the Internet you can transfer funds from A to B, without A knowing B or B knowing A,\" as Friedman would say.\n\nNow [thousands of digital currencies](https://cryptocoincharts.info/coins/info) are being traded and the cogs of the globe are churning.\n\nBelow are a collection of the layers I have found with regard to a good base understanding of what's happening in the world of digital currencies. \n\nBefore digging in, take a [look here](https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2017-bitcoin-volume/) and get an understanding of *where* these currencies are being traded.\n\n# Governmental\n\nJapan is now the land of [crypto currencies](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwKAwXrpdOU). Midori Kanemitsu, the CFO of the largest digital currency exchange in Japan, bitFlyer Inc, stated that;\n\n[“Effectively, Japan is the first and only country that has a proper legal system regulating cryptocurrency trading,” Kanemitsu said. “That’s a big deal. Before the law regulating cryptocurrencies, people worried what would happen to their money if an exchange were to go bust.”](https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2018/01/23/business/japan-global-leader-cryptocurrency-investment/#.WnZeSZM-f-Y)\n\nIn the US, the official stance of the [Federal Reserve](http://time.com/4709783/federal-reserve-bad-for-america/) is that they cannot cannot ban bitcoin [\"other than assuring that banking organizations that we [the fed] do supervise are attentive, that they are appropriately managing any interactions they have with participants in that market, and appropriately monitoring anti-money laundering, bank secrecy act responsibilities that they have.”](https://cointelegraph.com/news/us-fed-chair-speaks-out-on-bitcoin-and-national-crypto)\n\nIn Korea, one [Justice minister](https://www.cnbc.com/2018/01/16/over-200000-sign-petition-in-south-korea-to-stop-bitcoin-regulation.html) came forth and stated that the government may ban crypto trading, the response was swift. Within a couple of days, a petition made over 200k signatures to fire that minister prompting a mandatory response from the South Korean government. The president stated there will be no such ban in the [foreseeable future](https://www.emchat.net/emchat/2018/1/16/south-koreas-government-confirms-again-that-there-will-be-no-cryptocurrency-ban)- except on [anonymous trading](http://www.businessinsider.com/south-korea-bans-anonymous-cryptocurrency-trading-2018-1).\n\nIn Russia, \"digital financial assets\"have been legalized \"as securities\" and will be exchangeable on open and regulated exchanges. As I pursue this journey, I will continue to post my progress and try to help other learn from my mistakes as much as possible. \n\nSo watch, you heard it here first- and if you have taken the time to read this, thank you, please let me know what your thoughts are, I am hungry for feedback.\n\nMy next post will be covering all the various ways I have been trying to start this empire, there is a lot of exciting things in the works and I will need all of the help I can get. \n\nIn the meantime, stay classy, stay educated and stay tuned.",

| body | So, I am the geocryptographer. I look at this thing through a geographical lens. For those of you who have no clue what that means- a geographical lens means I am looking at this specifically for how people are interacting with this. Now, to anyone who says they KNOW when it comes to cryptocurrency- you are just fucking wrong. Sorry. This is speculation. So we talk about facts and make predictions. People are using this faster. My prediction of this scenario is that we are witnessing the beginning of the next major social revolution. Yes we just got out of the 'Information Age', the last major social revolution was the industrial revolution. This was a social revolution. People changed the way they saw the world, people transitioned into a new means of production, growth, economic activity, social behavior, and overall; an increased access to wealth. This wealth was concentrated. This was a shitty social revolution by standers of MOST of the people during this time. Nonetheless, we needed to get through this in order get into the next phase of society. This time around, people are taking this revolution into their own hands. With the birth of a reliable eCash, people have effectively said "Fuck your dollar, yen, euro-trash, we are making our own cash." Here is the thing, its better. For new comers to the Crypto revolution, it is my opinion that this will replace most mainstream networks and blockchain technology, like a rising tide, will seep its way into every part of life. Companies that move trillions of dollars will work these technologies into their systems, and in doing so, eliminate the need for a LOT of administrative jobs. This is the automation of accounting and filing. But, this is not the only use case. Keeping track of refugees documents in a digital, accountable, reliable way; making sure that smart cars all recognize themselves and work in tandem; proving products and preventing counterfeiting; even parceling and organizing all of the land owner ship rights in the world. By creating peer to peer currencies and shifting the control and ownership of value to people, it becomes increasingly difficult to collect taxes. Who picked Taxes to be the only other thing that is certain in life? Now, at risking sounding like a super libertarian, when was the last time the government spent their money in an efficient, productive, meaningful way? What war do you remember people lining up outside yelling "shut up and take my money!" While many wars have been window dressed as ideological wars, or wars of justice- most people don't support the mass murder of a bunch of strangers, thousands of miles away, to the profit of a few. Making funds harder to collect will restrict the governments ability to enforce its control and make them act more choice with their decisions. With the accountability and transparency of blockchain and a lot of the projects coming out. This will most certainly make it's way into the government. There will not need to be as many employees and the government will shrink. If government is a crowbar that has been leveraged by rich people to further their advantage- they will no longer be effective. At least not to a degree by which they are able to leverage the government today. I think there are a lot of reasons why crypto's are so popular; hype, fads, money, etc. I believe this is a slow rising tide that is going to erode the foundations of many institutions and essentially corner them out of their own markets. The nature of the world is cyclical. Markets correct themselves. Environments correct themselves. Adaptable species correct their positions when at risk. I believe that this will lead, slowly, to the pressure gradient of people to government to even out and even shift. I understand this is grandiose, but i am just speculating. I could be wrong, but another fact is that people are growing less trusting of traditional and government institutions. People are moving, idfk, its going to be a lot bigger. Buy power ledger. They are dope. Anyways, PLEASE let me know if this makes any sense and give me some feedback. My goal is to improve my writing and thinking of whats happening here, the more I know the stupider i feel. So, while i am trying my hardest not to move my positions, I will be honing in on my thinking. Thanks and remember; Bulls make money and Bears make money. I am beginning a series of crypto summaries of some cool coins at cryptomarket360.com, follow my articles, my name is Jack!! |

| body | @geocryptographer Thank you for your post. I've seen Golem on coinmarketcap but haven't looked to far into it yet myself. Given its total supply of coins is < 1 Billion, it definitely has room to rise going into 2018. However, one when you said "The currency is based off .. smart contracts with those in the network who are renting their computers." Does this mean this software application is only available to those who "rent" the system from Golem? |

| body | What is Golem Network Token? Why should I care? The word “golem” originally comes from a Jewish folklore about a ‘shapeless mass’ or ‘artificial man’ who builds itself into a life that did not previously exist. Golem provides a solution to the problem of massive computational requirements for more advanced calculations and applications such as; AI, chemistry predictions, site hosting, artistic rendering, videogame streaming, media processing, coding proteins, and even mining crypto currencies. Instead of relying on one supercomputer to run these advanced demands, the network distributes each of the tasks into smaller and smaller parts in the server, allowing for anyone to access the decentralized supercomputer in an efficient and inexpensive way. The bigger the network, the stronger the golem. Julian Zawistowski, the CEO and Founder, was originally an economist by trade. The idea for the project came along in February 2014. The currency is based off of Ethereum and enables users to enter smart contracts with those in the network who are renting their computers. All computations occur in virtual machines so that they are fully isolated from the host’s system, preventing the stealing of the information. The network has preset computing tasks and high-level code in an open library providing a framework for what calculations user’s may be seeking, whatever that may be. I see this as a scalable solution to a very expensive and very widespread problem, which is an abundance of people who lack the computational power required to study the subjects that the cutting edge of the world focuses on. There is an alternative called SONM, which sells itself as a similar solution. SONM has a smaller market cap, smaller total supply, and with the project in infancy, it will be subject to more growth in the short run. Golem Network has a tremendous amount of application for users around the world who don’t have sufficient computing power. In the long run, there is a possibility for serious gains, but time will tell. Zawitowski believes that the Golem network is much more about the technology and software, rather than the markets and coins. While they aren’t the only of its kind, they will certainly be a contender. |
