In extreme cases, there are people who erase traumatic memories from their head. There is no trace of them. Scientists proved decades ago that the phenomenon is common among individuals of all cultures and latitudes, but the brain physiological mechanisms involved were unknown.\n\n##### Until now. A recent work by researchers at the University of Texas at Austin (UT) published in the Journal of Neuroscience provides clues to understand the origins of this psychological defensive barrier. And it has been a surprise: the brain has a harder time forgetting an unpleasant experience than fixing it.\n\n![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZtuxWrGrRmc5srorTkGxr9hdcWNELD9JpwYQpkfsb1ii/image.png)\n\n### The scanner does not lie\nThe researchers used neuroimaging techniques to record patterns of brain activity. They taught a group of healthy adults images of faces and scenes, and asked them to make an effort to remember or forget those that were pointed out to them.\n\nInstead of analyzing what happened in the brain areas involved in the control of information and long-term memory-the prefrontal cortex and the hippocampus-they focused on the regions linked to perception, especially the visual cortex, and in the patterns of activity that correspond to the representations made by the memory of complex visual stimuli.\n\n![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZtuxWrGrRmc5srorTkGxr9hdcWNELD9JpwYQpkfsb1ii/image.png)\n\nThey observed that, as was suspected, people have some capacity to decide what we forget, and that starting it requires moderate brain activity in areas related to the senses and perception, greater than what is required to fix a memory. According to Tracy Wang, psychologist and principal author of the study, \"is the intention to forget what increases brain activity, and when it reaches a certain threshold, we begin to forget that experience that affects us.\"\n\nThe researchers also found that study subjects tended to forget scenes more than faces; The latter usually provide us with much more emotional information, which confirms that feelings play a decisive role in the memory mechanisms of human beings.\n\n![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZtuxWrGrRmc5srorTkGxr9hdcWNELD9JpwYQpkfsb1ii/image.png)\n\n### A flexible capacity\nThis work affects something known: memory is dynamic. The brain builds from the experiences and sensations a memory that does not remain frozen: the neural circuits modify it in the light of new experiences, or eliminate it, in processes that usually take place when we sleep.\n\n>Jarrod Lewis-Peacock, one of the authors of the study, said on the UT website that \"now that we have discovered indications of how the brain works to weaken certain memories, we can use this knowledge to develop treatments that help people get rid of of memories that do them a lot of psychological damage, so much so that they can make them sick \".",

As an embryo develops, the tissues bend into complex three-dimensional shapes that lead to the organs. The epithelial cells are precisely the building blocks of this process that form, for example, the outer layer of the skin and coat the blood vessels and organs of all animals.\n</br>\nAs such, this epithelial tissue is made up of millions and millions of these tiny cells. These cells come together hermetically.\n\nUntil now, we represented the cells of epithelial tissues (or epithelium) as prisms, but an international team of scientists led by the expert in biology Luis M. Escher could have experienced, but according to the team, this form has never been previously described in the scientific literature.\n\nThey discovered that, during tissue flexion, epithelial cells adopt a previously undescribed shape that allows cells to minimize energy use and maximize binding stability. They have called this new form: escutoid, \"a geometric solution for the three-dimensional packaging of the epithelia\".\n\n>The researchers made this finding through computational models that used the Voronoi layout, a tool that is used in several fields to understand geometric organization. To his surprise, the additional shape discovered did not even have a name in mathematics, so it presented a fabulous opportunity to name a new geometric shape.",

The newly discovered satellites further increase the difference of Jupiter as the planet with the most moons in our entire solar system, and that space around Saturn is quite crowded.\n\nThe team, led by astronomer Scott S. It is believed to be the remains of three parental bodies that broke in collisions with asteroids, comets and other moons. Each one takes around two years to surround the planet.\n\nTwo more of the moons are in a group that rotates much closer to the planet, in orbits, which travel in the same direction as Jupiter's turn. Most likely fragments of a larger moon that broke in orbit. It takes almost a year for this pair of moons to complete a circle around Jupiter.
