| body | Open source is also free!(sometimes) I think now more than before we need code that can be audited and ensured it is not compromising our private information. Microsoft has become a company that has abstracted completely what its OS does with your information and acts contrary to what you may want it to do. Not to mention the NSA routinely raids your details from all the tech companies that aren't concerned about the principles of privacy. I'm not sure when the average consumer will go out of their way to use open source software until they are aware and educated about invasive technology. So we have a responsibility to be as informative as possible so users are not silently syphoned of their life |

| body | The damage msm has done to race relations borders on irreparable. Passing blame and shame from hundreds of years ago does nothing but to remind us why we can never build a relationship of unity and trust. The Europeans were not the first to enslave humans and certainly not the worst perpetrators of the practice. All races in their history have been victim to this evil tradition, some religions still adhered to today passively condone it because it was so natural yet today we consider the act the vilest of practices. I personally feel BLM does more to undo the great progress the Civil Rights movement did to integrate blacks into American society by tearing at healed wounds and passively condoning the same discrimination their previous generation faced and revolted against. My hope is that a new movement moves the sentiment back toward integration not segregation(which, ironically, blm seems more in favor of) |

"body": "The damage msm has done to race relations borders on irreparable. Passing blame and shame from hundreds of years ago does nothing but to remind us why we can never build a relationship of unity and trust. The Europeans were not the first to enslave humans and certainly not the worst perpetrators of the practice. All races in their history have been victim to this evil tradition, some religions still adhered to today passively condone it because it was so natural yet today we consider the act the vilest of practices.\n\nI personally feel BLM does more to undo the great progress the Civil Rights movement did to integrate blacks into American society by tearing at healed wounds and passively condoning the same discrimination their previous generation faced and revolted against. My hope is that a new movement moves the sentiment back toward integration not segregation(which, ironically, blm seems more in favor of)",

The stigma of Americans being stupid isn't going anywhere anytime soon because of politicians insisting they teach children politics and correctness rather than how to think and knowledge. It's also frustrating that people in power can't see past the politics and let it influence what happens to other people. The next generation may be a lost one |

| body | I am inclined to agree with you. Just in the US, the trend seems to be more abuse coming from police officers. I know not all officers abuse their authority but it seems more and more of them are turning to enforcement rather than peacekeeping. Just comparing to this time last year, more people have been killed this year than last(http://www.killedbypolice.net/) My frustration with this issue of racially motivated killing is that it frames a serious problem in the wrong context. I don't believe blacks are targeted more and arguing that whites are killed more is missing the point as well. More Americans (all races) are being killed by police. This is what needs to be addressed. Police do more to instill fear than a sense of safety. |

| body | It's troubling times for sure. On the one hand we have unprecedented technology that will radically revolutionize quality of life. The convenience of which compromises human rights. Many times I have heard the data collected is both too massive to sort through and never used for the purpose it was obtained. I worry there will come a day when all that collected data can be organized, profiled, and used against ordinary people. Quantum computing and A.I are a reality coming soon and we do not have the moral discipline to be responsible with its ability. That being said the more people become connected the more opportunities they have to be educated and made aware |

| body | We live in an age of unspeakable threats to individual liberty and national sovereignty. The massive amount of information already collected, and the ability to interlink communications globally is a clear threat to individual freedom. Unfortunately Artificial Intelligence is advancing exponentially, and the trend in e-commerce for cryptocurrency means we are experiencing massive disruptions in traditional business models including banking. Underlying these trends is the eroding dollar, and the BRICS bypassing the dollar with their own International Trade. The result of all these factors and more is that humanity will soon be at a tipping point and life as we know it will look much differently. |

| body | Difficult to remain innocent under a system which inherently believes you are never innocent. All the surveillance we live with is proof enough of that. Even as far back as the 80's government would rather not understand or promote the freedom the internet gives, instead they treat it as the enemy and penalize anyone who would use it to free themselves from their control. I don't read TOS personally, maybe I should if I intend to fight for internet freedom. I do pay attention to the privacy policy. I have distanced myself from certain corporations who don't respect my personal information. Convenience is not always worth it if it come at the price of principles. Interesting read, am following! |

| body |
https://s1.postimg.org/5s4loflwf/Snowden.jpg
https://s1.postimg.org/k1486i0f3/liberty_v_surveillance.png Everyone has secrets and everyone will do what they must to keep it that way. If given the option, most would prefer to conduct their affairs in privacy(hygiene, intimacy, knowledge sensitive work). Snooping is still considered rude. We simply must have a degree of reserved space for ourselves or nothing is sacred.
https://s4.postimg.org/sfbjhq07h/paul-snowden.jpg
In June, I came across an illuminating interview by the great Ron Paul with Edward Snowden, the hero/traitor who revealed the NSA's PRISM surveillance program. For better or worse, Snowden awakened Americans and the world to the systematic unconstitutional mass collection of our communications. Also discovered was the backroom arrangements for corporations we trusted to release private data to the NSA without consent or notice. We live in an era of constant suspicion and monitoring. Many of us have begun to question how do we stop this? How do we hold government accountable and resist this abuse on our rights? Our personal lives are not property of our government! In this incredible interview Ron Paul, Daniel McAdams, and Edward Snowden discuss the complexity of legal and technical application of protected rights, the danger of dogma, liberty vs. surveillance, the Military Industrial Complex, as well as some insight into Snowden making his decision to blow the whistle on the NSA's activities. I really love this interview for it's honest engagement and brilliant discussion of what privacy is. Snowden explains in clear defined terms what is under threat and the value in protecting this fundamental human right.
https://s1.postimg.org/w3sumw30f/crypto-bitcoin.jpg
Snowden touches on a topic we are experimenting with here too. Technology as a shield for protecting our rights and freedom. Cryptocurrency as it's name suggests, encrypts and protect our currency from manipulation, fraud, and theft. All things all governments around the world are guilty of committing. Money is inextricably linked to our freedom. A debt based monetary system ensures slavery for all but those at the top running the scam. So to is privacy a cornerstone of our freedom. Surveillance for any reason undermines a person's ability to live innocently without suspicion that you are breaking the law. You are already alleged of criminal activity before you see a court room. In the face of these tyrannical threats, can technology be the bulwark to the law of man that is as arbitrary as the speed limit on the road? When you examine it a law can do very little but stain paper if it cannot be enforced. Many people may be violating a law right now but is there much ability to enforce you to not wear the American flag on clothing? So to would be futile to enforce a scheme to manipulate that which is immune to manipulation or spy on someone who cannot be watched or monitored.
https://s1.postimg.org/w1po787tr/firewall.jpg
Is this the avenue where our efforts are best directed? It does seem to be a more difficult barrier to overcome. Well developed security technology is difficult to hack but bypassing a legal restriction can be done with ease. As we have seen, Federal Agencies in the U.S have little regard for the antique founding document of our republic yet can do nothing but plead to Silicon Valley to weaken encryption so they may be allowed to spy on more savvy Americans. The UK's attempt to ban encryption(mathematics) is absolute insanity. But what are we really trying to save? To those who argue the Nazi doctrine of "nothing to hide, nothing to fear" why does privacy matter? What is privacy? Why does government seem to fail at being the guardian of this right even when enshrined in it's Constitution? Is technology the true saint of privacy we have been waiting for? I will explore some of these questions in a series of posts but feel free to leave comments with your own opinions! Until next time...
Thank you for reading and follow for more!
Image/Video sources: https://www.thinkinc.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/thinkinc_es_web_1900x500.jpg http://msmegarage.org/crypto-currency-and-ugandas-financial-market/ http://s3.amazonaws.com/rv-wp/centurylinkdealscominternetres/uploads/2013/11/firewall.jpg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XLLo0025Jc
https://s4.postimg.org/891u2f5a5/gr-y_sig.png
|

| body | I remember when eth split and etc came around. The sentiment then was that etc would die or etc would prove itself the real eth. Neither really happened and etc has survived and eth is continuing nicely. Now this situation is very much different. I haven't looked much into bcc but if it has utility I can see it having staying power. Speculation wise I think we can expect big moves. I held onto my etc for awhile before selling for minor profits. I'm going to stay neutral on bcc |

| body | I have been using xubuntu for about two years now. It's been the best OS I've ever used and learning the command prompt was actually an enjoyable experience. If there was any other I would want to use it would be a Debian distro. Not sure when I would switch because Xubuntu is really comfortable to me now. Would recommend it to anyone who was interested in learning Linux. |

| body | I certainly believe privacy exists but in this era it is becoming a scarce commodity. The current surveillance trends don't seem to be stopping anytime soon and it looks likely it will get progressively worse. For the average man who enjoyed privacy prior to the turn of the century, he will need to take a hands on approach now. I think a high level of privacy is possible but once you get started you will always need to be vigilant. It won't be effortless like before. Your phone spies on you, your smart TV spies on you, your router spies on you, your isp, etc. Some of those things you can't do anything about. However, just because something is difficult doesn't mean you declare it dead If slaves succumbed to their chains they would never be free. Freedom in any form is a struggle to maintain but it must be fought for. The next generation may find it nearly impossible to secure privacy but does that mean privacy then ceases to exist? I believe privacy is a trait of being human so humans will find a way. This is why crptography was created, to provide this means. So I agree with your solution. I was planning an indepth post exploring this very topic. Technology could be a means to safeguard private information and resist snooping. I'm not educated enough to give much an opinion on open hardware solutions. But open software, for the most part ( I have heard of very few cases of open software being technically paranoid unfriendly) is the best tool to use to stay arms length away from prying eyes. Knowledge goes a long way in creating a closed box system with no holes. There are many techniques to utilize, all easily accessible to anyone who cares to use them. |

| body |
This is true but society isn't set up to promote resiliency, self sufficiency, independence. Society is or seems to be set up to promote the exact opposite actually.
How many people do you know who don't depend on being chosen in some way? Either for a job because they have a boss who chooses their salary, or for the college they got into, or into the sports league? Most people seem to get where they are because other people chose to give them some opportunity.
I would agree society is not setup to allow a person to be a full independent rugged survivalist. Nepotism is the dictator of who deserves the privilege of the opportunity to improve their living standard. This would be a good decision to make even if society were to promote "do it yourself". Give a man the ability to earn for himself and he needs not ask you for your ability or steal it from you. In many cases this is the only way to be self-sufficient. I do believe more than financial independence is needed for a more resilient society such as high quality education and a healthy dose of skepticism. Being informed and informing others goes a long way in surviving system failures. Individualism does extend further than being smart with money and career planning. Thinking is key too.
Becoming financially independent is extremely difficult but it is possible. I just don't think the vast majority of people understand that it can take most of a lifetime to reach that position if they ever reach it. In general I support universal basic income, as this would allow everyone to have at least the opportunity to reach that position, but as things are right now it takes money to make money work for you and a lot of people just don't get born with any advantages.
I can acknowledge and know it is not very easy and gets much more difficult as we lose sight of principles that would make the road less difficult. The U.S' deceased middle class tells the tale quite clear that many do not have the wage growth and may not see it to claim that status of stability. We'd do well to prioritize living within your means and saving. If we had, however, it makes me think would we be in a situation where there was high risk in systemic failure? If people refuted schemes to manipulate wealth generation would such a risk be present to resist in the first place? A statistic that comes to mind that I find interesting was 40% of Americans lived on farms at the beginning of the 20th century. These were people that could live of the land they owned as long as people bought their food and in most cases, people do need to eat. Not a lavish lifestyle but can sustain your livelihood. Now less than 2% of americans grow produce and raise livestock for a living. The other 98% rely on grocery stores and the food delivery infrastructure to be fed. Were we more self-sufficient a century ago? Now I know it is not practical nor am i suggesting we all go back to tending the fields but are there some principles we can learn from our predecessors a century ago about independence? Complete independence is highly difficult and would require a high degree of support to even achieve such a feat. Humans are social creatures and we can't get anywhere without cooperation which I support. I do advocate responsibility for yourself as much as you have the means to do so. If we can reach a status where the 'majority' would survive a collapse of vital system infrastructure I think that would minimize the threat and possibly the likelihood of such an event occurring.
You can be an individual with a family, with friends, part of a community, etc, just as long as you know yourself and who you are.
Completely agree, family is the support everyone needs when you get knocked off your feet. People capable of helping up those who fall down requires those people be firm on their soles.
Robert Kiyosaki makes great and memorable points because he offers practical information on how a person can improve their life and improve their financial literacy. The fact is, whatever it is that he is doing is proven to work because it's working for him, and also to be honest a lot of other people who follow similar paths seem to be doing pretty well at least economically, so he's proving his thesis. If a person actually is rich, and actually made money, and actually knows the system, that is a person to learn the system from if the goal is to gain practical knowledge. A lot of academic scholars might know how the system works in theory, such as how the government works and how the voting system works, or even how the legal system is supposed to work, but how it works in practice is another matter and cannot be learned in class.
I remember being a child and reading just a few pages of my mom's copy of Rich Dad, Poor Dad. The insights I got from that book, while I did not absorb all the valuable concepts at that age, put financial literacy as a skill set I needed to develop early on. He is one of the mentors I stumbled on to that lead me down a path that I can say I would not have discovered if not for his knowledge. I know my school certainly wasn't going to teach me why I should pay myself first and prioritize saving. I really should read more of his books, Rich Dad, Poor Dad was a very fun read through! |
