titleFIFA WORLD CUP

titleRussia ‘Secretly’ Helped Venezuela Launch State Crypto Petro: Report
bodyhttps://248qms3nhmvl15d4ne1i4pxl-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Putin-Maduro-760x400.jpeg Venezuela’s oil-backed cryptocurrency, the Petro, was the work of a joint collaboration between Venezuelan and Russian government officials with Putin’s personal approval, Time Magazine said Tuesday. Citing anonymous sources close to the ‘half-hidden joint venture’ between Venezuelan and Russian officials, Time Magazine is reporting that Russian president Vladimir Putin signed off on Kremlin aiding Venezuela in launching the Petro – the world’s first state cryptocurrency. As reported previously, the Petro was first announced by Venezuelan president Maduro in December as a payment instrument to evade international economic sanctions and a blockade led by the United States. Maduro officially launched the pre-sale of the 82.4 million Petro tokens on February 20. Specifically, today’s report points to two key Russians involved as Maduro’s advisers on the Petro, with ties to major Russian banks and billionaires close to the Kremlin. Denis Druzhkov and Fyodor Bogorodsky were reportedly seated in the front row in the presidential palace during the much-publicized launch of the Petro last month. The two Russians were also thanked by the President ‘for aiding his fight against American “imperialism”’, the report added. “Of the two Russians who also signed agreements with the government to help develop the petro one, Denis Druzhkov, CEO of a company called Zeus Trading, was fined $31,000 and barred from trading for three years by the Chicago Mercantile Exchange for fraudulent trading in futures’ contracts,” read an excerpt from a separate investigative report by the Associated Press. “The other, Fedor Bogorodskiy, lives in Uruguay and was described by the government as director of a company, Aerotrading, whose website consists of a single home page with no company information.” “According to an executive at a Russian state bank who deals with cryptocurrencies, senior advisers to the Kremlin have overseen the effort in Venezuela, and President Vladimir Putin signed off on it last year,” the Time report added. The state bank executive reportedly added: “People close to Putin, they told him this is how to avoid the sanctions. This is how the whole thing started.” While the Kremlin did not respond to communication from the magazine, Moscow’s Finance Ministry insisted that none of Russia’s financial authorities were involved in developing or launching the Petro. The Venezuelan government did not respond to the magazine for comment either. The revelations come within a day of US President Donald Trump’s executive order banning American citizens and residents within the country from trading or acquiring the cryptocurrency. Meanwhile, Maduro congratulated Putin on the latter’s recent re-election victory that confirms Putin’s continuing role as Russia’s President.

titleA Glimpse of a Crown Prince’s Dream? Saudi Arabia Invades Iran in CGI
bodySeated in an animated command and control room in Riyadh, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia directs an invasion of Iran. In scene after he scene, he orders a succession of superior weapons systems to pulverize the enemy. Finally, his forces corner the trembling figure of Qassem Suleimani, the revered commander of Iran’s elite Quds Force, and the people of Tehran acclaim their Saudi liberator. The animation, which first appeared on the internet in December and has been viewed more than 1.2 million times, offers a vivid portrait of Saudi Arabia’s increasingly aggressive stance toward its regional rival since the assent to power of the 32-year-old crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman — M.B.S., for short — the king’s favorite son and chief adviser. Is it serious or a satire? The video appeared on YouTube and social media accounts under the name of a group calling itself Saudi Strike Force; the group declined to answer electronic messages to its social media accounts asking about its identity. An official at the Saudi Embassy in Washington said the kingdom’s government had no connection with the video. Bernard Haykel, a Princeton professor who recently published a column explaining the challenges Prince Mohammed faces in the kingdom, suggested in an email that the Iranians themselves might have made the cartoon “to make the Saudis look silly.” Other experienced observers said the animation showed an insider’s familiarity with the visual details of Saudi Arabian and Iranian weapons. The video was released almost simultaneously in Arabic and English, with subtitles in Farsi, Hebrew, Mandarin, Russian, Turkish and other languages, so its animators probably also had the help of a team of linguists. And Saudi news organizations under the control of the Royal Court — including the Saudi newspapers Al Riyadh and Sabq — immediately hailed the video as a depiction of the “reality” of the kingdom’s armed forces. The newspapers would not have promoted the video without authorization from the crown prince himself. Continue reading the main story “This represents how he sees himself, or what he would like to be,” said Bruce Riedel, the author of a new book about Saudi Arabia who worked for three decades at the Central Intelligence Agency. “It suggests that at least some part of Mohammed bin Salman lives in a fantasy world, and if he really believes these things then we are on a course that could be extremely destructive.” Other scholars suggested that one of the prince’s courtiers might have commissioned the video to flatter him. The second period of the Phase 2 of ticket sales for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off in 11 cities across Russia this summer, was launched on Tuesday at 12:00 Moscow time (9:00 am GMT). The second period of Phase 2 dubbed as the "First-come, first served" opened on March 13 to provide sales services until its closure on April 3, with all tickets available for purchase throughout this period strictly on the official FIFA website. MORE NEWS ON 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP IN RUSSIA © Peter Kovalev/TASS Hermitage oracle cat to receive Fan ID for 2018 FIFA World Cup UK considers boycott of 2018 World Cup in Russia - daily Experts name Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow as 2017 world’s best football arena Foreign office clarifies what Johnson meant when speaking of UK presence at World Cup The Phase 2 of ticket sales for the quadrennial world football championship was divided into two periods, just like during the preceding Phase 1. The FIFA announced in its statement on Monday that an aggregate sum of 1,303,616 tickets had been already allocated after both periods of Phase 1 and the first period of Phase 2. Given the number of requests was more than the number of available tickets, they had been allocated by a random selection draw process. "Overall, the number of tickets allocated to international customers during the second random selection sales window accounts for 65%," according to FIFA’s statement. Phase 3, dubbed as the "Last Minute Sales," will run from April 18 up until the final match day of the competition and the remaining tickets will be available for purchase on a first-come first-serve basis. The first period of the Phase 2 of ticket sales was launched on December 5, 2017 and closed on January 31, 2018. December 5 was also the date for the resumption of ticket sales in the Category 4, which was especially introduced by FIFA for this upcoming world football championship and is reserved exclusively for Russian residents. Ticket prices for FIFA Confederations and World Cup tournaments are usually divided into three categories and the global football organization visas the price for each category. A special fourth category, which is the cheapest compared to the others, was especially introduced by FIFA in July 2016 and was reserved only for residents of the hosting country. Fan-IDs for ticket holders Russia came up for this FIFA World Cup with an innovation, which is the so-called Fan-ID and it is required for all ticketholders. This innovation was successfully tested during the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia and earned high marks from the world’s governing football body. The Fan-ID plays an important security role during the major football tournament in Russia as it grants admittance to the stadiums and also serves as visa for foreign visitors to enter the country. READ ALSO Hermitage oracle cat to receive Fan ID for 2018 FIFA World Cup A Fan-ID holder is allowed to enter the country without having a Russian visa and stay for the duration of the global football tournament. Fan-IDs are obligatory, in addition to purchased tickets, in order to attend matches of the 2018 World Cup tournament in Russia. They were available free of charge at designated areas located in all hosting cities across Russia as well as via e-mails and postal services during the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. Last October, the Russian Ministry of Communications and Mass Media announced the launch of a registration process for obtaining new Fan-IDs required for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Russia selected 11 host cities to be the venues for the matches of the 2018 World Cup and they are Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan, Saransk, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg and Samara. The matches of the 2018 World Cup will be held between June 14 and July 15 at 12 stadiums located in the 11 mentioned above cities across Russia. Two of the stadiums are located in the Russian capital.

titleWant free cryptocurrency? 'Airdrops' is coming
bodyWant free cryptocurrency? 'Airdrops' is coming In an "airdrop," makers of a new digital token give it out for free to some owners of existing coins. "In certain ways people are getting free lottery tickets," says Matthew Roszak, co-founder of Bloq. William Mougayar, blockchain investor, says airdrops are being misused. "Sadly, airdrops are the new spam mail or coupons junk mail." Digital currency developers are trying a new tack for marketing and encouraging mass adoption: "airdropping" free cryptocurrencies into people's accounts. The meaning of airdrop in the cryptocurrency world has little to do with an iPhone. In this case, a group of people starting a new digital currency decide to give these newly minted tokens to holders of an existing coins like bitcoin or ethereum, for free. "In certain ways people are getting free lottery tickets," said Matthew Roszak, co-founder of enterprise blockchain-technology company Bloq. "There will be a tsunami of airdrops this year." Earlier this month, holders of the cryptocurrency neo were selected to receive another digital coin called ontology, for free. The token is supposed to give holders voting rights for a platform that focuses on identity verification and data services. Ontology began trading on Hong Kong-based exchange Binanceon Wednesday, according to a release. Three other teams — including developers behind a Wikipedia-like site called Everipedia, similar to the ethereum's Callisto Network, and a smart-contract system called United Bitcoin — are also planning airdrops, according to Fundstrat Global Advisors. But given the price surges and mania around cryptocurrencies, it isn't clear why anyone seeking a profit would give away these out these new coins. Here are a few reasons more digital coin developers are pursuing airdrops: 1. Promotion Digital coin developers are using the airdrop method to promote new projects instead of "spending money on billboards and T-shirts," said Roszak, who is also chairman of the Chamber of Digital Commerce. The ontology airdrop said it would distribute 20 million coins, or about 10 percent of its tokens, to neo holders. Both coins were created by the Chinese company OnChain. For every one neo, investors could get 0.2 ontology tokens, according to the Neo Council, an advisory group. In order to implement an airdrop, the maker of a new coin can look up and offer all of the holders of one cryptocurrency, such as bitcoin, a chance to receive the up-and-coming token for free. The coin isn't necessarily automatically distributed, but users can opt in to participate in the airdrop. "We're seeing it through [digital token sales] and smaller start-ups that are trying to get traction right away," said Shone Anstey, executive chairman, president and co-founder of Blockchain Intelligence Group. The overall trend of being able to get some new digital coins for free through public blockchains "shows the great utility of the public networks," Anstey said. 2. Mass adoption Cryptocurrency enthusiasts often tout the technology's transformational power that will come once there is widespread use. But despite growing interest in digital coins, adoption remains a fraction of the population. Airdrops try to address this issue. "I think we'll see airdrops as an increasingly sophisticated approach to customer acquisition," said Spencer Bogart, partner at San Francisco-based Blockchain Capital. "Slipping money into someone's pocket is a powerful way to get their attention," Bogart said, adding that the airdrop process could spur mass adoption of a new cryptocurrency better than an initial coin offering. ICOs are sales of new digital tokens to raise funds for projects based on blockchain technology. By owning a token, investors potentially get access to a platform such as a cloud storage system, and may benefit from the token's price gains. ICOs have raised about $7 billion to date, according to Autonomous Next. But it can be a challenge for an ICO to reach enough potential investors. In the five months through November, less than a third of ICOs reached their fundraising targets, according to TokenData. "When you give something to someone for free they will pay a little more attention than if you ask them to sign up," said Erik Voorhees, CEO of ShapeShift, a platform for trading digital tokens. "Imagine if Walmart could put some kind of asset into everyone's bank account in the U.S." Another potential benefit of airdrops is less regulatory uncertainty than an initial coin offering. China has officially banned the token sales, while the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has stepped up its efforts to stamp out fraudulent ICOs. Many cryptocurrency companies have received subpoenas or information requests from the SEC, CNBC reported last week. 3. Price Developers may also have an incentive to use airdrops as a way to drive up the price for an existing coin. The demand for that original cryptocurrency could go up as investors buy it just to be a part of an upcoming airdrop. That's similar to how many investors piled into bitcoin ahead of its split into bitcoin and bitcoin cash last summer, in order to benefit from a similar method of giving investors new coins called a "fork." In a Feb. 22 report, Fundstrat Global Advisors highlighted upcoming forks or airdrops in cryptocurrencies such as neo, ethereum classic, zclassic and litecoin. "We think these upcoming forks and airdrops may be a short-term reason to focus on these tokens," the report said. The firm's analysis also found that between the beginning of January and the end of February, five coins posted double digit returns relative to bitcoin. However, their data did show that four other coins with upcoming airdrops or forks underperformed bitcoin. The airdrop phenomenon is also still "fairly fringe" and "won't affect the price," said Blockchain Intelligence Group's Anstey. Other analysts are also skeptical that the trend helps boost public awareness. "Airdrops are being misused and abused, to the point where they are starting to lose their intended effect," William Mougayar, blockchain investor and author of "The Business Blockchain," said in an email. "The more scammy and over-promoted ICOs will tend to send airdrops liberally without a proper user opt-in authorization," Mougayar said. "Sadly, airdrops are the new spam mail or coupons junk mail. They are hit and miss on benefits." https://fm.cnbc.com/applications/cnbc.com/resources/img/editorial/2015/11/17/103176532-cheng_evelyn2.60x60.jpg?v=1448474125

titlePastor denounces Trump's remarks with Pence at church

Jan. 15: President Trump: 'I am not a racist' In his speech, the pastor mentioned that some congregation members were from Haiti and African countries. He called the president’s comments “hurtful” and “dehumanizing.” He went on to call for the president to be held accountable for his words. Pence reportedly became visibly red-faced at times throughout the speech. Pence's office denied that in an email to The Associated Press. After his comments, members of the congregation stood in support. According to a report in the Washington Post on Jan. 11, Trump used a crude description of Haiti, El Salvador and African countries during immigration talks in the Oval Office. Jan. 15: Durbin calls on White House to release tapes of Trump's remarks about African countries "Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?" Trump reportedly told lawmakers on Thursday. On Sunday, Trump denied reports that he used the vulgar term. Trump made the denial as he arrived for dinner with House majority leader Kevin McCarthy at his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. Jan. 13: African ambassadors condemn Trump remarks as 'racist' Asked if he is a racist, Trump said: "No, I'm not a racist. I am the least racist person you have ever interviewed." According to Metropolitan Baptist Church's website, the historically black church was established a year after the Emancipation Proclamation. The service on Sunday was streamed on Facebook.

bodyhttp://img.lemde.fr/2017/12/21/0/0/5302/3535/534/0/60/0/410e5d5_5620635-01-06.jpg By a large majority, the United Nations condemned Thursday the US President's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. By a large majority, one hundred and twenty-eight countries against nine, the United Nations Organization (UN) condemned Thursday, December 21, the decision of US President Donald Trump, to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Thirty-five countries have decided to abstain. The United States, Israel, Guatemala, Honduras, Togo, Micronesia, Nauru, Palas and the Marshall Islands voted against this text, which responds to a Palestinian initiative. In Ramallah, in the West Bank, a spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the vote on the UN resolution. "This vote is a victory for Palestine," said Nabil Abu Rdainah. We will continue our efforts at the United Nations and in all international forums to end this occupation and to create our Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. " For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was satisfied with the number of countries that did not vote the resolution. "In Israel we reject this decision of the UN and respond with satisfaction to the large number of countries that did not vote in favor of this decision," he said in a statement. "The United States will remember this day" Prior to the vote, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley had threatened countries that would vote in favor of the resolution: "The United States will remember the day that saw them pillorize the General Assembly for the sole exercise of our sovereign country right. " "We will remember when we are asked once again to make the largest (financial) contribution to the United Nations. And we will remember when many countries come to ask us, as they so often do, to pay even more and use our influence to their advantage. " "We want rights and peace" President Donald Trump, who announced his decision on Jerusalem on 6 December, took the lead on Wednesday. "They take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars and then they vote against us," he had ranted. Let them vote against us, we will save a lot, we do not care. " Earlier, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Malki had called for support, denouncing the American ambassador's threat to "write down the names" of those among the hundred and ninety-three members who would vote in favor of the resolution. "History records names, it remembers names, names of those who defend what is right and names of those who lie. Today we want rights and peace, "he said.

titleDonald Trump threatens to cut financial aid to countries voting on Jerusalem
bodyUS President Donald Trump has threatened to cut financial aid to countries that will vote Thursday a text that rejects the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. "Do not sell yourself" Turkey urged Thursday the international community not to "sell" for "a handful of dollars." "I appeal to the world: above all, do not sell your democratic will for a handful of dollars. The dollars will come back, but a will that has been sold will never come back," said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at a speech in Ankara. The checkbook diplomacy The same text was blocked on Monday at the security council by the United States. The US ambassador to the United Nations used her veto. The 14 other members of the Council, including France and Great Britain, had approved the resolution, which considers as null and void any unilateral decision aimed at changing the status of Jerusalem. Ambassador Nikki Haley had made all the anger of the United States. "The United States did not expect those they helped to target," writes Nikki Haley. "They take billions of dollars, and then they vote against us," lamented President Donald Trump, adding that it will save him money in the future. The former businessman therefore think to operate the diplomacy checkbook. But on an issue as emblematic as Jerusalem, it does not work. It is the UN General Assembly that must vote on this text today. https://static.independent.co.uk/s3fs-public/thumbnails/image/2017/04/26/11/ivanka-trump.jpg

titleHouthi missile attack on Riyadh sparks global outrage
bodyhttp://www.arabnews.com/sites/default/files/styles/ph3_660_400/public/2017/12/20/1057261-197325649.jpg?itok=7Xj5bALH DUBAI: A number of countries and organizations have condemned the launch of a ballistic missile by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia in Yemen aimed at Riyadh. Houthi forces fired a ballistic missile toward Riyadh on Tuesday, targeting the Al-Yamamah Royal Palace in the Saudi capital. Royal Saudi Air Defense forces intercepted the missile and shot it down and prevented damage. The attempted attack comes just weeks after the group in Yemen launched a missile at Riyadh on Nov. 4, targeting King Khalid International Airport. A UN Security Council-appointed panel confirmed the missile was manufactured in Iran, along with three other missiles fired from Yemen toward the Kingdom this year. US The United States strongly condemned the missile attack on Riyadh. In a statement issued by US Department of State Spokesperson Heather Nauert, it was confirmed that the US remains deeply disturbed by aggressive Houthi actions supported by Iran’s provision of advanced weapons, which threaten regional security and prolong the Yemen conflict. “The United States calls on Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to stop arming and enabling the Houthis’ violent actions against Yemen’s neighbors, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” Nauert added. Italy Italy also condemned the launch of the ballistic missile. Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alvano said in a statement today: “This terrorist act constitutes a threat to regional peace and stability and undermines the prospects for a negotiated and comprehensive solution to the crisis.” UAE The UAE condemned the missile launch and said that the attack drew attention to the dangerous and negative role played by Iran in supporting the militia and its insistence on continuing its hostile practices by providing the Houthi group with ballistic missiles that threaten peace and security in the region. In a statement, the UAE emphasized its full support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia against any party that tries to threaten its security or harms peace and stability in its territory, while reaffirming the organic link between the security of Saudi Arabia and the security of the UAE. The UAE reiterated its commitment to the Arab Coalition to achieve security and stability in Yemen. Jordan Jordan on Tuesday condemned the Houthi’s attempt to target Saudi Arabia and denounced it as a belligerent act. Minister of State for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson Mohammed Al-Momani voiced Jordan’s unwavering support for Saudi Arabia in its efforts to counter recurrent aggressions initiated by the Houthi faction. Jordan, he said, unequivocally backs Saudi maneuvers to reach a peaceful settlement to the Yemeni crisis. Bahrain In a statement issued by Bahrain News Agency, the Kingdom of Bahrain stressed that it stands by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia against any attempt to threat its security and stability. It renewed its commitment to support the legitimate Yemeni government headed by President Abdu Rabbo Mansur Hadi through participation in the Arab Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen. Morocco The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in a statement on Wednesday that the Kingdom of Morocco strongly condemned the missile launched at the city of Riyadh, while renewing its solidarity with Saudi Arabia against any act that harms the safety of its territory and the peace of its inhabitants. Morocco also expressed its deep concern at the escalation, which further deepens the Yemeni crisis due to its negative impact on the stability of the region. Djibouti Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Dyauddin Said Bamakhrama condemned the act. Bamakhrama expressed the solidarity of the Republic of Djibouti with Saudi Arabia and added that the country considers any act of aggression against Saudi Arabia as an act of aggression against Djibouti. Lebanon Prime Minister Saad Hariri condemned the act in a released statement, saying: “The repeated targeting of Saudi territory by missile attacks from Yemeni territory not only threatens the security of the Kingdom and the safety of its people, but also exposes the region to serious dangers and exacerbates existing divisions and conflicts. “We strongly condemn such attacks,” he said. “We stress that these aggressive methods must be abandoned and we must refrain from policies that fuel conflicts and conduct dialogue through solving the intractable problems.” Organization of Islamic Cooperation The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the missile launch. OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen stressed that the continued launch of ballistic missiles toward the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia confirms that Houthi militias are continuing their hostile approach that aims at destabilizing the security and stability of Saudi Arabia. The secretary general reiterated the OIC’s support and solidarity with Saudi Arabia in all actions and measures it takes to maintain its security and stability. Meanwhile, the internationally-recognized government of Yemen also strongly condemned the Iranian-backed Houthi’s targeting of the city of Riyadh. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement: “This aggressive behavior of targeting Saudi Arabia with ballistic missiles reflects the extent of the danger that this extremist group has become and the level to which Iranian influence has reached it, which seeks to be used to harm regional and Arab security after helping them to cause massive destruction in all the Yemeni cities and towns that were invaded by the militias.” The statement called on the international community and the UN Security Council to take strict measures against the Houthis and called for them to be considered as a terrorist organization. http://www.arabnews.com/sites/default/files/styles/ph3_660_400/public/2017/12/20/1057261-197325649.jpg?itok=7Xj5bALH

Royal Saudi Air Defense forces intercepted the missile and shot it down and prevented damage.\nThe attempted attack comes just weeks after the group in Yemen launched a missile at Riyadh on Nov. 4, targeting King Khalid International Airport.\nA UN Security Council-appointed panel confirmed the missile was manufactured in Iran, along with three other missiles fired from Yemen toward the Kingdom this year.\nUS\nThe United States strongly condemned the missile attack on Riyadh. In a statement issued by US Department of State Spokesperson Heather Nauert, it was confirmed that the US remains deeply disturbed by aggressive Houthi actions supported by Iran’s provision of advanced weapons, which threaten regional security and prolong the Yemen conflict.\n“The United States calls on Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to stop arming and enabling the Houthis’ violent actions against Yemen’s neighbors, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” Nauert added.\nItaly\nItaly also condemned the launch of the ballistic missile. Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alvano said in a statement today: “This terrorist act constitutes a threat to regional peace and stability and undermines the prospects for a negotiated and comprehensive solution to the crisis.”\nUAE\nThe UAE condemned the missile launch and said that the attack drew attention to the dangerous and negative role played by Iran in supporting the militia and its insistence on continuing its hostile practices by providing the Houthi group with ballistic missiles that threaten peace and security in the region.\nIn a statement, the UAE emphasized its full support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia against any party that tries to threaten its security or harms peace and stability in its territory, while reaffirming the organic link between the security of Saudi Arabia and the security of the UAE.\nThe UAE reiterated its commitment to the Arab Coalition to achieve security and stability in Yemen.\nJordan\nJordan on Tuesday condemned the Houthi’s attempt to target Saudi Arabia and denounced it as a belligerent act.\nMinister of State for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson Mohammed Al-Momani voiced Jordan’s unwavering support for Saudi Arabia in its efforts to counter recurrent aggressions initiated by the Houthi faction.\nJordan, he said, unequivocally backs Saudi maneuvers to reach a peaceful settlement to the Yemeni crisis.\nBahrain\nIn a statement issued by Bahrain News Agency, the Kingdom of Bahrain stressed that it stands by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia against any attempt to threat its security and stability.\nIt renewed its commitment to support the legitimate Yemeni government headed by President Abdu Rabbo Mansur Hadi through participation in the Arab Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen.\nMorocco\nThe Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in a statement on Wednesday that the Kingdom of Morocco strongly condemned the missile launched at the city of Riyadh, while renewing its solidarity with Saudi Arabia against any act that harms the safety of its territory and the peace of its inhabitants.\nMorocco also expressed its deep concern at the escalation, which further deepens the Yemeni crisis due to its negative impact on the stability of the region.\nDjibouti\nAmbassador of the Republic of Djibouti to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Dyauddin Said Bamakhrama condemned the act.\nBamakhrama expressed the solidarity of the Republic of Djibouti with Saudi Arabia and added that the country considers any act of aggression against Saudi Arabia as an act of aggression against Djibouti.\nLebanon\nPrime Minister Saad Hariri condemned the act in a released statement, saying: “The repeated targeting of Saudi territory by missile attacks from Yemeni territory not only threatens the security of the Kingdom and the safety of its people, but also exposes the region to serious dangers and exacerbates existing divisions and conflicts.\n“We strongly condemn such attacks,” he said. “We stress that these aggressive methods must be abandoned and we must refrain from policies that fuel conflicts and conduct dialogue through solving the intractable problems.”\nOrganization of Islamic Cooperation\nThe Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the missile launch.\nOIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen stressed that the continued launch of ballistic missiles toward the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia confirms that Houthi militias are continuing their hostile approach that aims at destabilizing the security and stability of Saudi Arabia.\nThe secretary general reiterated the OIC’s support and solidarity with Saudi Arabia in all actions and measures it takes to maintain its security and stability.\nMeanwhile, the internationally-recognized government of Yemen also strongly condemned the Iranian-backed Houthi’s targeting of the city of Riyadh.\nThe Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement: “This aggressive behavior of targeting Saudi Arabia with ballistic missiles reflects the extent of the danger that this extremist group has become and the level to which Iranian influence has reached it, which seeks to be used to harm regional and Arab security after helping them to cause massive destruction in all the Yemeni cities and towns that were invaded by the militias.”\nThe statement called on the international community and the UN Security Council to take strict measures against the Houthis and called for them to be considered as a terrorist organization.\n\nhttp://www.arabnews.com/sites/default/files/styles/ph3_660_400/public/2017/12/20/1057261-197325649.jpg?itok=7Xj5bALH",

titleToday's "Planet Earth Report" --The Last Jedi, Sex Robots Will Replace Humans, Coming Space Wars
bodyhttp://www.toptenhype.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/10-Facts-About-the-Planet-Earth.jpg December 15, 2017: Today's links to headline stories from around the world on the threats, opportunities, and dangers facing our fragile planet --along with an occasional dash of humor, popular culture, and an intriguing conspiracy theory or two. Coverage includes the Alien Life We Discover Will be Machines, Hunter Gathers of the American West, China Will Save the World from Catastrophic Climate Change , Other Pale Blue Dots, The Digital Republic of Estonia, Three Theories on the Origin of Our Interstellar Visitor, NASA to Survey Unexplored Stretch of Antarctica, Funniest Animal Photos of 2017. If life off Earth exists it has probably transitioned to machine intelligence. This September, a team of astronomers noticed that the light from a distant star is flickering in a highly irregular pattern.1 They considered the possibility that comets, debris, and impacts could account for their observations, but each of these explanations was unlikely to varying degrees.2 What their paper didn’t explore, but they and others are beginning to speculate, is that the flickering might be caused by enormous structures built by an advanced civilization—whether the light might be evidence of ET. In thinking about this possibility, or other similarly suggestive evidence of extraterrestrial life, an image of an alien creature might come to mind—something green, perhaps, or with tentacles or eye stalks. But in this we are probably mistaken. I would argue that any positive identification of ET will very likely not originate from organic or biological life (as Paul Davies has also argued), but from machines. Few doubt that machines will gradually surpass more and more of our distinctively human capabilities—or enhance them via cyborg technology. Disagreements are basically about the timescale: the rate of travel, not the direction of travel. The cautious amongst us envisage timescales of centuries rather than decades for these transformations. Be that as it may, the timescales for technological advance are but an instant compared to the timescales of the Darwinian selection that led to humanity’s emergence—and (more relevantly) they are less than a millionth of the vast expanses of time lying ahead. So the outcomes of future technological evolution will surpass humans by as much as we (intellectually) surpass a bug. Non-biological “brains” may develop insights as far beyond our imaginings as string theory is for a mouse. There aren't enough rules governing military behavior in the upper atmosphere. One hundred miles above the Earth’s surface, orbiting the planet at thousands of miles per hour, the six people aboard the International Space Station enjoy a perfect isolation from the chaos of earthly conflict. Outer space has never been a military battleground. But that may not last forever. The debate in Congress over whether to create a Space Corps comes at a time when governments around the world are engaged in a bigger international struggle over how militaries should operate in space. Fundamental changes are already underway. No longer confined to the fiction shelf, space warfare is likely on the horizon. While agreements for how to operate in other international domains, like the open sea, airspace, and even cyberspace, have already been established, the major space powers—the United States, Russia, and China—have not agreed upon a rulebook outlining what constitutes bad behavior in space. It’s presumed that International Humanitarian Law would apply in outer space—protecting the civilian astronauts aboard the International Space Station—but it’s unclear whether damaging civilian satellites or the space environment itself is covered under the agreement. With only a limited history of dangerous behavior to study, and few, outdated guidelines in place, a war in space would be a war with potentially more consequences, but far fewer rules, than one on Earth. From smog-choked cities to sludge-filled rivers, stories about China’s environment in recent years have painted a bleak picture. But China is not the first country to put economic development above protecting the environment. All of today’s wealthy countries, including the UK during the industrial revolution and the US after World War II, got rich doing the same. What’s different about China is the pace of development, the scale of its impact, and the timing. Never in human history have so many people been pulled out of poverty so quickly. China’s unprecedented development, which has relied on fossil fuels to the point that the country is now the world’s biggest emitter of greenhouse gases, comes at a crucial time for the world. If we don’t reduce greenhouse-gas emissions to zero by 2060, we’ll be staring down the gun at climate menaces humans have not faced in our time on the planet. The good news is that, unlike the US, the world’s second-biggest emitter, China appears truly committed to climate action. The country has pledged to hit peak emissions by 2030, and to ensure emissions fall rapidly after that. Our own oasis of life in the cosmos is blue, but will others be? At a distance of 3.7 billion miles from the sun, on an otherwise ordinary February day in 1990, the Voyager 1 probe turned to point its camera platform away from its headlong rush into the cosmic void. A narrow-angle optic switched on and snapped a sequence of brief shots. One of the sensor’s tiny pixels, spanning about the length of a dozen bacteria lined up end to end, registered an increased charge. There, among the sun’s lens flare, diffracted light, and electronic noise, sat an extra point of light. It was the smallest of small blips, an inconsequential mote in the emptiness of space, and it had a pale blue hue. This mote was us, our world, Earth—a shockingly abrupt summation of 4 billion years of complex and chaotic history. The image taken that day was the ultimate selfless selfie. It provided an existential perspective that is unique among the species on our planet: Only we humans have seen ourselves from billions of miles away. Carl Sagan would later immortalize the image with the title, the “Pale Blue Dot.” The Pale Blue Dot was the latest in a long history of association of the color blue with our home in the universe, and with life itself. Two decades before Voyager, as Apollo 8 circled the moon, astronauts recorded the now-famous “Earthrise”—a stunning color photograph of a bright blue-white hemisphere suspended above a gray lunar landscape. Four years later, the Apollo 17 mission captured a beguiling whole-Earth image that became “The Blue Marble.” Its government is virtual, borderless, blockchained, and secure. Has this tiny post-Soviet nation found the way of the future? The Estonian government is so eager to take on big problems that many ambitious techies leave the private sector to join it. The future of human sex may not be with humans at all. Sex robot technology is advancing at such a rate that experts believe human companions may become obsolete by 2050. Innovations in the robotics industry are pushing us closer and closer to robotic sex that can compare to or even surpass sex with humans. Tech companies such as Arlan Robotics and Abyss Creations have already invented technology that attempts to bridge the gap between human and robot sex. A combination of realistic rubber flesh (known as Frubber) and advancements in artificial intelligence are making this sci-fi concept a reality. It doesn’t stop there, though. Other technology includes fellatio-specialized droids, synchronized orgasms, self-warming genitals, auto-lubricating vaginas… what CAN’T they do? Currently, sex robots won’t fit in most of our budgets. Roxxxy, a fully-functioning sex robot on the market, is currently listed at $9,995. However, futurist Ian Pearson believes that by 2050, half of the world’s population will have reasonable access to a robot companion. Until then, we always have dreams of West World. Earlier this year, astronomers at the Pan-STARRS observatory in Hawaii detected a planetary object that had come from outside the solar system for the first time. The October 19 discovery came after the object had already made its closest approach to Earth five days before. Astronomers around the world turned our most advanced telescopes toward the object, only approximately 400 meters long and perhaps 40 meters wide, and confirmed that it is without a doubt on a trajectory that will take it back out into interstellar space. Originally thought to be a comet, the object revealed characteristics that are more similar to an asteroid—more rock and less ice. It was given a new designation, 1I, for the first interstellar object ever discovered then was named `Oumuamua, a Hawaiian word that translates to "messenger" or "scout." Astronomers have managed to learn a lot about `Oumuamua, an elongated tumbling asteroid of rock and perhaps metal that was likely involved in a significant collision at some point that sent it spinning. But where it came from is still a mystery. A new paper titled, "The origin of interstellar asteroidal objects like 1I/2017 U1," which is still under review, takes a look at three possible origins for `Oumuamua. In the video below, the wonderful PBS YouTube series Space Time takes a look at the three theories.

China’s unprecedented development, which has relied on fossil fuels to the point that the country is now the world’s biggest emitter of greenhouse gases, comes at a crucial time for the world. If we don’t reduce greenhouse-gas emissions to zero by 2060, we’ll be staring down the gun at climate menaces humans have not faced in our time on the planet.\n\nThe good news is that, unlike the US, the world’s second-biggest emitter, China appears truly committed to climate action. The country has pledged to hit peak emissions by 2030, and to ensure emissions fall rapidly after that.\n\nOur own oasis of life in the cosmos is blue, but will others be?\n\nAt a distance of 3.7 billion miles from the sun, on an otherwise ordinary February day in 1990, the Voyager 1 probe turned to point its camera platform away from its headlong rush into the cosmic void. A narrow-angle optic switched on and snapped a sequence of brief shots.\n\nOne of the sensor’s tiny pixels, spanning about the length of a dozen bacteria lined up end to end, registered an increased charge. There, among the sun’s lens flare, diffracted light, and electronic noise, sat an extra point of light. It was the smallest of small blips, an inconsequential mote in the emptiness of space, and it had a pale blue hue.\n\nThis mote was us, our world, Earth—a shockingly abrupt summation of 4 billion years of complex and chaotic history. The image taken that day was the ultimate selfless selfie. It provided an existential perspective that is unique among the species on our planet: Only we humans have seen ourselves from billions of miles away. Carl Sagan would later immortalize the image with the title, the “Pale Blue Dot.”\n\nThe Pale Blue Dot was the latest in a long history of association of the color blue with our home in the universe, and with life itself. Two decades before Voyager, as Apollo 8 circled the moon, astronauts recorded the now-famous “Earthrise”—a stunning color photograph of a bright blue-white hemisphere suspended above a gray lunar landscape. Four years later, the Apollo 17 mission captured a beguiling whole-Earth image that became “The Blue Marble.”\n\nIts government is virtual, borderless, blockchained, and secure. Has this tiny post-Soviet nation found the way of the future? The Estonian government is so eager to take on big problems that many ambitious techies leave the private sector to join it.\n\nThe future of human sex may not be with humans at all. Sex robot technology is advancing at such a rate that experts believe human companions may become obsolete by 2050.\n\nInnovations in the robotics industry are pushing us closer and closer to robotic sex that can compare to or even surpass sex with humans. Other technology includes fellatio-specialized droids, synchronized orgasms, self-warming genitals, auto-lubricating vaginas… what CAN’T they do?\n\nCurrently, sex robots won’t fit in most of our budgets. Roxxxy, a fully-functioning sex robot on the market, is currently listed at $9,995. However, futurist Ian Pearson believes that by 2050, half of the world’s population will have reasonable access to a robot companion. Until then, we always have dreams of West World.\n\nEarlier this year, astronomers at the Pan-STARRS observatory in Hawaii detected a planetary object that had come from outside the solar system for the first time. The October 19 discovery came after the object had already made its closest approach to Earth five days before. Astronomers around the world turned our most advanced telescopes toward the object, only approximately 400 meters long and perhaps 40 meters wide, and confirmed that it is without a doubt on a trajectory that will take it back out into interstellar space.\n\nOriginally thought to be a comet, the object revealed characteristics that are more similar to an asteroid—more rock and less ice. It was given a new designation, 1I, for the first interstellar object ever discovered then was named `Oumuamua, a Hawaiian word that translates to \"messenger\" or \"scout.\"\n\nAstronomers have managed to learn a lot about `Oumuamua, an elongated tumbling asteroid of rock and perhaps metal that was likely involved in a significant collision at some point that sent it spinning. But where it came from is still a mystery. A new paper titled, \"The origin of interstellar asteroidal objects like 1I/2017 U1,\" which is still under review, takes a look at three possible origins for `Oumuamua. In the video below, the wonderful PBS YouTube series Space Time takes a look at the three theories.",
