| body | "Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food." Hippocrates (460-370 B.C.) Note: This post contains affiliate links. You can read my disclosure statement. Hello, World! I am a 30+ years old Russian-born bloke from Siberia, Russia. Currently, I live in Sydney, Australia where I work in IT consulting. In my free time, I enjoy filming and travelling, sometimes just camping-style making videos about people’s stories of their lives. One of my hobbies is to find, test and recommend psoriasis remedies for people who're also affected. From the photo above, you may have already guessed that I am an amateur pickler, and my favourite thing is cooking healthy foods! However, things in life don't happen without a reason, and so in 2016, I launched this health & wellness website healthnutritionguru.net to help people affected by psoriasis. Whoop! Whoop! But there’s more to explain my excitement... Pain as the catalyst Diagnosed with an autoimmune illness (psoriasis) in 2013, against all recommendations of the doctors advising to avoid any stress, I have found myself increasingly frustrated with the fact that my good health and healthy skin will be covered with red rashes, flake, scale, and never be the same again! You see, psoriasis is a skin disorder that affects more than 6 million people in the United States (WHO)! The research suggests that the main cause is when your immune system mistakenly identifies that there's a threat and starts producing skin cells too quickly. This results in a thick built up layers of skin that eventually becomes inflamed and very itchy. Ouch! The docs verdict My dermatologist, during my personal visit, very professionally and kindly suggested that there's no cure for my psoriasis condition. As the best alternative treatment for psoriasis, I was recommended to temporarily relieve the symptoms with steroids and some minimal dieting. Besides, western medicine even denies the fact that alcohol is a major factor affecting the skin condition to be worse. As a result of my 30-day treatment of psoriasis with steroids, not only this had just a temporary relief but exacerbated my condition to be at its worst! Oh, shit... In the aftermath of the next few weeks, the plaque stains had spread to both of my shins, elbows, and the facial parts. In search of treatment for psoriasis When on my holiday trip to Vietnam, I persisted in searching for treatment for psoriasis. I found some naturopathy supplements derived from concoctions based on seeds and herbs. AU$500 got me the 3 months worth of supplies that could fit inside a medium size box! Imagine what would a perplexed face of the customs officer look like when checking my luggage for anything suss and finding the hundreds of packs of homoeopathic granules and tubes with black, brown and white liquids inside. OMG, right! This time the luck was on my side this time, and I was directed to pass freely via the green corridor. Yeah! Three months went by and this proven to be just another temporary relief from psoriasis. My skin condition would stabilise but once the batch was over, I still had more than 70% of skin affected. About three years later, I finally struck my luck to find a Sydney based naturopath, who actually made my skin looking cleaner and healthier than ever, and psoriasis had almost disappeared. This was largely attributed to following a strict diet, special products and some detoxifying products, cleansing practices. Thanks to the elimination protocol dieting (where everything gets taken out of your daily diet) I found what it was exactly that my body was reacting to. My psoriasis treatment fostered by cutting out these foods (soy, gluten, dairy, sugar, alcohol and coffee) from my diet, including good fish oil, Manuka honey and organic foods now I am at a 90% recovery! Hey, it's not just the normal people who are affected. Here's an image of a celebrity who is rather well-known worldwide. The verdict All these years and money spent would have been avoided if I REALLY EMBRACED THE KNOWLEDGE about these simple truths : 1. You are what you eat. 2. Your body is your temple. 3. Expect to only get out from what you've put in. ...you can say it in many ways but the truth is evident - our knowledge of balanced nutrition diet is the key to good health. So here I am now locked on this luminous quest to find ways to help people just like yourself on the journey to live the fullest, healthiest and happiest life possible psoriasis free. I sincerely thank you for your interest in the well-being of yourself and your family. Thank you for understanding that our food choice today will affect the life of the generations to come. Yours in health, Ilya Shirshov founder - HealthNutritionGuru.net |

| body | Hi there, my name is Ilya. I used to work as the Product Manager at a start-up called Instahire. As the trend of the gig economy has been spreading around Australia, it's also arrived at the temp labour hire sector. In an attempt to capitalize on it Instahire was born as a mobile app connecting Aussie businesses with hospitality and event workers at the "speed of light", in real-time. The USPs that set Instahire apart from the competition was both the instant connection and seamless payment. Instahire's shown a number of business cases of reduced attrition rate and most importantly, saving the time and cost for small caterers and restaurants. Driven by the vision, the team behind Instahire was in sync with the passion to improve the way people work for the greater economic and social good of business and society. During my 2+ years working in the product leadership role, I've made mistakes. Oh boy, they were many. Wishing now I'd known these earlier. Now hopefully, these will serve as a useful reminder of the pitfalls to avoid in your own software product development efforts. Here are my top 5 mistakes to learn from: **ONE. Expectation management for stakeholders (investors).** Never underestimate the power the skill on how to speak the language of your stakeholders coming from a brick-and-mortar investment mentality, especially if they're investing into a tech startup. They will pull the plug at the most inconvenient for the product lifecycle moment - ie at the growth stage! This is a must do at the start of the development cycle and also on a regular appointment scheduled on monthly basis. Remember to be brutally honest about the result objectively backing it up with the statistics and facts, not opinions. The update should also include the forecast on the progress ahead. **TWO. Prioritisation is key when deciding on which features to build first or to build them at all. ** Why would you want to risk building another version swiss-knife? There's already one that exists and I bet you have never used the entire plethora of tools that come with it. Focus instead on the repeated feedback points accumulated in the course of user interviews as the biggest pain-points. Any feasible feedback will justify going ahead to approving a new feature which may very likely scale and have a large impact on the bottom-line. At Instahire we've assumed the app UI will need a map just like Uber, showing the available workers in the area, being on standby to spring to work in a tap. In reality, what the end user needed was to be able to communicate uniform and other details in a notes section to adding clarity to each vacancy and reducing friction. THREE. Rule #1: never underestimate the power of repeat usability tests. Rule #2: remember rule #1. There's no such thing as "enough" testing. There’s always a chance that a user really will do that – no matter how silly it seems. In Instahire's case, it nearly cost the company 9k in unprocessed transactions that could have potentially slashed the already scrumpy budget. We're grateful to have nourished close relationships with the first time users. It paid off with the interest having their kind understanding and OK to make manual charges to compensate for the missing funds. FOUR. Expect the unexpected in new programming. This applies to the apps run on third-party programs and/or public API's and is shipped on a public store platform. In Instahire's case being a bootstrapped mobile app and relying on 3-d party applications, the app was prone to sudden breaks each time there's an update made by one of these programs. Yes, that means potentially your new app build will be "stuck" in approval for as long as one weeks time, busting your shipping deadline to the app stores. FIVE. Build, test, release (or fail) fast! Make it your mantra to release your MVP ASAP and avoid the perfectionists' trap. This applies particularly to those cases when you build a product that will meet the needs of a wide range of customers. The truth is there's no easy way to prescribe a specific solution predicting its effectiveness without actually building a prototype at the least. Instahire app was built with the features defined by the internal stakeholders and thus was more like a finished product having a number of features that simply didn't scale. A great way to make a decision on adding a feature is to ask yourself the two questions: 1. How will it benefit the end user? 2. How will it move the business forward? Remember that opinions are free and everybody has one. Always try to be wise and base your answers on facts and quantitative data, or if your business in Oz then <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Growth Hackers <a href="https://twitter.com/academyxi?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@academyxi</a> when in growth stage of business in Australia avoid making decisions based on data but go qualitative. - Ben Fitzpatrick, WebProfits <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/growth?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#growth</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/startup?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#startup</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/growthhack?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#growthhack</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/aussie?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#aussie</a> <a href="https://t.co/nXRf3RBM9E">pic.twitter.com/nXRf3RBM9E</a></p>— Ilya Shirshov (@Sypper) <a href="https://twitter.com/Sypper/status/981821339743989760?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 5, 2018</a></blockquote> |

Prioritisation is key when deciding on which features to build first or to build them at all. **\n\nWhy would you want to risk building another version swiss-knife? There's already one that exists and I bet you have never used the entire plethora of tools that come with it. Focus instead on the repeated feedback points accumulated in the course of user interviews as the biggest pain-points. Any feasible feedback will justify going ahead to approving a new feature which may very likely scale and have a large impact on the bottom-line. At Instahire we've assumed the app UI will need a map just like Uber, showing the available workers in the area, being on standby to spring to work in a tap. In reality, what the end user needed was to be able to communicate uniform and other details in a notes section to adding clarity to each vacancy and reducing friction.\n\n\nTHREE. Rule #1: never underestimate the power of repeat usability tests. Rule #2: remember rule #1. \n\nThere's no such thing as \"enough\" testing. \n\nFOUR. Expect the unexpected in new programming. \n\nThis applies to the apps run on third-party programs and/or public API's and is shipped on a public store platform. In Instahire's case being a bootstrapped mobile app and relying on 3-d party applications, the app was prone to sudden breaks each time there's an update made by one of these programs. Yes, that means potentially your new app build will be \"stuck\" in approval for as long as one weeks time, busting your shipping deadline to the app stores.\n\nFIVE. Build, test, release (or fail) fast! \n\nMake it your mantra to release your MVP ASAP and avoid the perfectionists' trap. A great way to make a decision on adding a feature is to ask yourself the two questions: \n\n1. How will it benefit the end user? \n2. How will it move the business forward? \n\nRemember that opinions are free and everybody has one. Always try to be wise and base your answers on facts and quantitative data, or if your business in Oz then <blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Growth Hackers <a href=\"https://twitter.com/academyxi?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@academyxi</a> when in growth stage of business in Australia avoid making decisions based on data but go qualitative. - Ben Fitzpatrick, WebProfits <a href=\"https://twitter.com/hashtag/growth?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#growth</a> <a href=\"https://twitter.com/hashtag/startup?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#startup</a> <a href=\"https://twitter.com/hashtag/growthhack?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#growthhack</a> <a href=\"https://twitter.com/hashtag/aussie?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#aussie</a> <a href=\"https://t.co/nXRf3RBM9E\">pic.twitter.com/nXRf3RBM9E</a></p>— Ilya Shirshov (@Sypper) <a href=\"https://twitter.com/Sypper/status/981821339743989760?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 5, 2018</a></blockquote>",

| body | Hi there, my name is Ilya. I used to work as the Product Manager at a start-up called Instahire. As the trend of the gig economy has been spreading around Australia, it's also arrived at the temp labour hire sector. In an attempt to capitalize on this trend Instahire was born as a mobile app connecting Aussie businesses with hospitality and event workers at the "speed of light", in real-time. Here are my top 5 mistakes to learn from: 1. Expectation management for stakeholders (investors). Never underestimate the power the skill on how to speak the language of your stakeholders coming from a brick-and-mortar investment mentality, especially if they're investing into a tech startup. 2. Prioritisation is key when deciding on which features to build first or to build them at all. Why would you want to risk building another version swiss-knife? 3. 4. 5. Always try to be wise and base your answers on facts and quantitative data, or if your business in Oz then https://twitter.com/Sypper/status/981821339743989760 |
