      "body": "## La experimentación con animales desde hace años ha generado controversia entre los que la apoyan y los que defienden los derechos de los animales. Sin embargo, el tema va más allá de los intereses de las personas y los fines en que se aplica, puesto que en este caso está la vida de otro ser vivo en el medio. \n\n<p>\n\nNo se puede negar que los experimentos con animales han influido enormemente en la evolución de la genética. Las ratas estuvieron muy presentes en los laboratorios, el experimento de Griffith con cepas de Streptococcus pneumoniae es uno de los primeros casos que se estudia al introducirse en la genética. No cabe duda que las ratas jugaron un papel determinante en el descubriendo de que el ADN es el portador de material genético. Estos son totalmente injustificados, buscan satisfacer caprichos y no aporta un beneficio real que haga valer este sacrificio.\n\n<p>\n\nPor otra parte, la medicina continua experimentando con animales para determinar que ciertos tratamientos sean seguros para los seres humanos, muchos consideran que este sí es un motivo justificado, pero se ha probado que las pruebas con animales no siempre arrojan resultados que realmente se adapten al organismo humano, es decir, lo que no es dañino para los animales sí lo puede ser para nosotros o vice versa. \n\n<p>\n\nEs correcto que podemos parecernos mucho a otros animales, pero eso no asegura que los experimentos sean exitosos. Aquí entra un tema además de ético, también de interés. La ética dice que matar a otro ser vivo es malo, pero el interés de descubrir y “evolucionar” intelectualmente puede llevar a la raza humana a menospreciar a las otras especies, incluso a sí mismo. \n\n<p>\n\nLa opción más factible es invertir en el desarrollo de tecnologías que no requieran de otro individuo vivo para realizar las pruebas, por ejemplo cultivo de células y simuladores computarizados, pero hasta los momentos los avances no han sido significativos. Dedicó parte de su vida al estudio de la herencia, cultivando y cruzando guisantes de jardín (Pinsum sativum). No fue por casualidad que eligió esta planta, entre sus características más importantes está su rápido crecimiento, la posibilidad de realizar autofecundaciones cruzadas y su fácil cultivo. \n\n<p>\n\nUstedes se preguntarán por qué estoy hablando de plantas cuando el tema es sobre los ojos, es cierto, pero los descubrimientos de este gran hombre es lo que determina este fenómeno. \n\n<p>\n\nMendel seleccionó ciertos caracteres, como el color de la semilla, la altura del tallo, la forma de la vainita, entre otras. Después de realizar y registrar un conjunto de generaciones de guisantes, se dio cuenta de algunos factores que creaban un patrón, creando así lo que hoy conocemos como **Leyes de Mendel**. \n\n<p>\n\nPara comprender este tema es necesario conocer algunos conceptos. Todos los seres vivos poseen material genético, el ADN. Los organismos diploides (como nosotros) poseen un número doble de cromosomas, uno del papá y otro de la mamá, que son separados durante la meiosis para crear gametos haploides (células sexuales con mitad de la información genética), al juntarse el gameto femenino con el masculino se crea otro organismo diploide. \n\n<p>\n\nDicho de forma más sencilla, cada persona posee la mitad de la información genética de sus papás. Cada cromosoma está constituido por genes, que codifican ciertos caracteres, estos genes pueden expresarse de formas varias alternativas, esto se llama **alelos**. Los alelos pueden ser **recesivos** o **dominantes**, los dominantes siempre se expresan si están presentes en uno de los dos cromosomas, mientras que los recesivos se manifiestan solo cuando está presente en ambos cromosomas al mismo tiempo. \n\n<p>\n\nSabiendo esto, imaginemos una pareja que quiere tener un hijo, cada una posee dos ejemplares de cada uno de los 23 cromosomas que posee el ser humano (cromosomas homólogos). La mamá tiene ojos azules, los ojos azules son un alelo recesivo, por lo tanto la mamá posee en cada cromosoma el alelo que corresponde al color azul, entonces es un **individuo homocigoto**. Cada gameto de la mamá siempre tendrá los alelos azules, mientras que los del papá tendrán a veces marrones o a veces azules.
